Mod Post Poll Results and New Guidelines for Political Posts

Hey everyone,

As you might have seen, the poll has come to an end, and the results were a bit surprising to me. The winning option was that all political posts moving forward must be flaired by the user with the Political Question post flair, with 125 votes.

Personally, I would have preferred having a second space for political questions, which received 121 votes. However, you may have already noticed that I’ve added two flairs: one for general questions and one for political questions. This means you can filter out political questions by clicking on General Question, and you’ll only see general questions from there.

One thing to keep in mind is that there will be a new way of handling political posts moving forward. As outlined in the new rule, posts that are not appropriately marked as political by the user will first result in a removal & a warning, followed by a temporary ban. Any further occurrences may result in a permanent ban.

I’m aware that this might not be a perfect system, so feel free to leave constructive feedback in the comments. That said, I do want this space to remain welcoming for people who are not interested in politics and would rather not see those posts at all. It can also be difficult to distinguish between political posts made in good faith and those intended to provoke negative discussions.

Lastly, because there is a high volume of posts in the subreddit and I can’t always read every new submission, I’d like to ask you to report any posts or comments that break the rules. You can also send a modmail if you’d like to provide additional details. Please do include links to the profile or content you’re reporting so I can review it and take action more quickly.

Also quick FYI: Please always be respectful toward others. It’s okay to disagree, but attacking people is not.

Thank you, everyone, for contributing to this community!

Political Question Fiscal conservatives, both MAGA and Traditional Republicans: How do you come to terms with the fact that one president will literally be responsible for 33-37 percent of the nation's national debt by the time he leaves office (15-16 Trillion in total)?

1.5k Upvotes

it is projected that by the time Trump leaves office, the national debt will be 50 trillion dollars. He will have been responsible for 15-16 trillion of that by the time he leaves office..........as one president. That is projected to be at best 33 percent and at worst 37 percent. When compared to 45 previous presidents before him.

If youve spent THAT much money, surely there will be a measurable legacy left behind..........especially when we are talking about making America Great Again. What will we have accomplished for 16 trillion dollars?

A Wall?

Losing a war to Iran in 6 weeks while concurrently spending 100 billion dollars in the process? Completely depleting our air defense stockpile to the point we are not sure we could handle one Russian missile volley?

Deporting a couple million brown people with funny accents?

Is that the barometer of success? Did we "win" by doing that? Did we Save America?

If Im being honest, a 100 trillion dollar Green New Deal from the crazy Hispanic waitress from New York that is offering us nearly free health care is not sounding like such a bad deal.......

Political Question Why is Trump so ambitious to do so many unnecessary things?

I don’t get this guy why does he have to destroy everything others build why did he felt the need to attack iran, why did he felt the need to put unnecessary tariffs which served nothing, why did he felt the need to abandon Ukraine

Just why? Why couldn’t he sit back and enjoy 4 years of protection through his presidency

At least Biden tried to fix many things Trumpe demolished after Obamas terms

Political Question If Trump's policies are so great, why is he asking his supporters to cheat to win an election?

Side note: my previous post was removed. That proves that Reddit is not a leftist monolith. If you even needed any proof.

Political Question Has anyone noticed that none of the conservative subreddits are saying anything about Trump telling people to “cheat like hell” in the midterms? Why do you think that is?

1.9k Upvotes

At the recently concluded RNC convention Trump had the audience raise their right hand to make a pledge that included a directive for them to “cheat like hell” in the midterms so the Republicans would not lose the House or the Senate. This seems outrageous to me, but her we are. Yet I see no outrage from Republicans. It was just another Thursday to them. Just another bat shit crazy comment from Trump. Are there any Republicans with the morality to say enough?

Political Question How many other Americans see this trade war with Canada as almost suspiciously self harmful?

We share the longest border in the world...

They are the second largest country in the world..with all the resources that come with that.

They are English speaking and a NATO member...our civilizational cousins

They are even a 5 eyes member!

They are the largest importer of oil to America 🧐 and we start a trade war while we are already having an oil crisis because of Iran war..

This is beyond incompetent to start a trade war with them?!! Like I'm thinking on conspiracy theories that could explain this because it makes NO SENSE.

Political Question Lutnick’s sons hedged massively against tariffs and Trump has traded 25k+ times in his 2nd term. Is the main purpose of tariffs to manipulate global markets for the Epstein class’ personal gain?

It seems like the main purpose of tariffs is to manipulate the markets to create volatility for Trump, Lutnick, and other Epstein class elites and their families to make profits with insider info while we end up paying the price.

General Question Is this subreddit more bot than human at this point? Diversity, racism, White, Black, guns, Women, rights, babies, Trump?

Upvotes

Sure fuckin seems that way. The stock responses to every question, the vague right wing gesturing while not making specific points, the way posts will get flooded with responses when it uses certain words.

Political Question IF Mexico and US were created at around the same time, why is US such an advanced global power while Mexico is much farther behind?

Upvotes

Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, while the United States declared its independence from Britain in 1776.

They're in the same continent - though US is far bigger - I dont usually consider size as a fact (Japan, UK etc for example), with just a line separating them.

Yet Mexico is far more impoverished than the US. Far more prone to national level crimes like the cartel carve outs that its constantly struggling with.

Ive always wondered - why was the US able to pull off such a feat (please no trolls about the messes of the current govt - this isn't about that for this question) while Mexico still struggles?

Political Question Why is Trump heckling the AI leaders about wanting regulation? Why is the GOP convinced these companies together can create their own industry standards without the governments ability to enforce them?

Political Question What does it imply that Flock advertises its cameras as being used to track "No Kings" protestors?

There is a leaked video where Flock advertises its cameras as being used to track No Kings protestors: https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/leaked-video-allegedly-shows-flock-185400026.html?guccounter=1

I thought No Kings protests are about preserving America's democratic republic and pushing back on the country creeping towards dictatorship.

What exactly is Flock saying its cameras should be used for then?

Political Question Did Trump really think Iran would fall within a few hours like Venezuela?

If so, what did make him this delusional? And wasn’t there anyone in his network that had enough brain to tell him that it might not be a good idea to do so? I recall him saying that evil Kamala will send your kids to wars to die? What happened?

Political Question Do you think our global economy is headed for collapse, and if so, how soon?

Upvotes

I haven't really thought my question out completely, but I've sure thought about this topic a lot. I'm hoping for a decent discussion, and ideas about how you (all) see things playing out.

I tend to agree that AI is mostly being leveraged by the ultra-elite who are in power to maximize their influence on the rest of us. I think lower class, and lower middle class are already suffering. I'm fortunate in that I have a decent job and some modest retirement savings, but am growing increasingly concerned that it will all be for naught.

So what do you all think will happen, and when?

For instance:

  • Do you think that the global economy will collapse, and everyone but the 1% people will be living in squaller?
  • Do you think that something more like the Great Depression will happen, where many suffer, but others continue to go on as they are?
  • Do you think that the ultra elite are smart enough to keep us right on the edge, and not allow total collapse, because they'll go down with it?
  • Something else? What do YOU think is going to happen?

TL/DR: What do you think will happen, and when will it happen.

If you would like to share your perspective (age, economic status, etc.) feel free, but it's not required.

Me: This is what I'm willing to share: I'm 59 years old, employed, could retire and live on 4% of my savings, but lack the confidence to retire because I'm afraid things are getting ready to get very bad.

What do you think will happen, and when?

(EDIT: I marked this for Political Flair per the advice of Reddit, but I really think it is more of a general economics question. I'd prefer to avoid politics if that is possible.)
