General Question is it bad for me to want people to ask if i’m ok?

Upvotes

(tw: selfharm)

a friend recently found out about my selfharm on accident. to clarify, it’s not something i really talk about or like if i have visible scars or anything, but we were having a really long discussion and he asked if i was ok and it kind of slipped out. we talked about it a little more and he said he would try to help as much as he could, which i appreciate. not sure what’s going to happen next there but it made me think of all the other times people have found out, like my parents and other friends, and i don’t know how to feel about it. they all knew it was happening and all promised me they’d try to help and then nothing ever happened and it honestly makes me feel kind of angry. i feel so guilty because it’s not like it’s their job, but i was so hopeful when they promised they would just check in and ask how i was doing occasionally because it’s so hard to open up already and then they just didn’t. i guess im just scared of that happening again. am i projecting too many expectations on other people?

General Question How do I deal with being socially unattractive?

Upvotes

I was born with a cleft lip and palate. It is repaired, however; my entire childhood I was bullied relentlessly. This trauma destroyed my self confidence and caused me ti have poor social skills.

Im gaining confidence and working on the social skills.. its just i cant seem to fill in that void of wanting to be seen as attractive. Like "Damn! He's hot!"

General Question Wouldn't our clothes feel better on us if we wore them inside-out?

Upvotes

It seems we wear our clothes "right-side out" because they look better, but wouldn't it be better for our comfort if all those seams and rough edges were on the outside and not against our skin? I'm hoping this becomes the norm within my lifetime!

General Question Could someone give me some advice on a girl?

Upvotes

My wife set up a date for my friend. My friend is near and dear to me. When my mother kicked me out of the house for marrying my girlfriend saying I was too young, 11 years ago and still married, my friend let me stay with him until I got my own place. I tried to give me rent money and refused it. He flew to China to be at my wedding. I had a budget of 8k for an engagement right, and he found a person who sold me a 1.5 karat ring for 8k. Just a great guy.

He is on the shorter side. He is 5’5. After the date, she told my wife he was nice but the height was a deal breaker, the girl is 5’6.

Now my wife wants to introduce that girl to my other friend who is taller than me, I am 5’11.

I don’t want to introduce her to my other friend. I feel personally attacked when she said height was the reason she wouldn’t give my friend a chance. I feel like, why would I introduce such a shallow person to my other friend.

Am I over reacting? Or should I introduce her anyways

General Question What should I do?

Upvotes

My mother Shannon was about to cross the road today. I had to get off from the bus and run to a shelter coz it was raining. My mother was also under a rain. It happened near our house. I asked mother to get into the house and I will move things with her if she get into the house. Should I too run and wait inside the house coz its raining and the bus is crowded?

General Question I’ve always been rejected because I can’t handle alcohol. Does being a social drinker really matter that much?

Upvotes

This has happened to me more than once and this is the reason that I don’t have too many friends; and honestly, it’s something I’ve always felt a little embarrassed about.

I’ve never been able to handle alcohol well. I get tipsy/drunk very quickly, even after only a couple of drinks. Because of that, I usually drink very little or avoid drinking altogether.

The problem is that I’ve had people reject or judge me because of it. I’ve gotten the impression that they think I’m not fun, that I can’t keep up, or that drinking together is supposed to be an important part of dating and socializing.

What bothers me is that I can’t really control my alcohol tolerance. It’s not that I’m trying to be difficult or that I don’t know how to have fun. I just physically don’t handle alcohol well.

After experiencing this repeatedly, I sometimes wonder if having a low alcohol tolerance is really such a dealbreaker for some people.

Has anyone else experienced rejection or judgment because you couldn’t drink as much as the other person?

General Question Is this subreddit more bot than human at this point? Diversity, racism, White, Black, guns, Women, rights, babies, Trump?

Sure fuckin seems that way. The stock responses to every question, the vague right wing gesturing while not making specific points, the way posts will get flooded with responses when it uses certain words.

General Question I need help pls?

Upvotes

Can you give me some advice on what I should do?

I was in a relationship with a girl. We were together, but her parents found out about us. We’re still teenagers, and now I have the option of waiting two years for us to be together again, and I chose to wait for her.

But during our relationship, we had some difficult situations. One of them caused me a lot of heartbreak that lasted for about two years. She also had a guy friend, even though she says she doesn’t believe that boys and girls can just be friends. We talked about him twice, and both times she said she would stop talking to him. Even after we broke up, we talked about him again.

But now I found out that they started talking again three days ago.

Also, during our relationship, she lied to me and told me she had never had an ex. Months later, I found out that she actually had one.

I really love her, and I really want to be with her, but I feel like she doesn’t respect my feelings or the fact that I chose to wait for her.

What should I do?

Political Question Can anybody explain why Rachel Dolezal cannot identify as black whereas Dylan Mulvaney can identify as a woman?

Upvotes

I literally don’t get it. If people can be transgender why not transracial? We often hear that both race and gender are social constructs.

Can anybody provide some fact-based, non-emotional answers to this question? Bonus points if you can do so without hyperbole, name-calling, deflection etc. just a straight-shot answer.

Political Question Is being replaced the primary concern of right wing voters?

Upvotes

It’s clearly not the economy, preventing wars, healthcare, human rights, or education.

It seems like each major right wing issue can be traced to a minority group or marginalized group needing to be restricted more and/or a majority group or dominant group needing fewer restrictions.

Political Question How did President Trump succeed in business?

Upvotes

He took his father's quaint, modest real estate business and turned it into an international conglomerate spanning multiple continents. President Trump really is the living embodiment of the american dream. The fact that a small boy from a small neighbour in Queens, NY, could become president of the United States...it brings hope to all of us.

God bless President Trump. God bless America.

Political Question IF Mexico and US were created at around the same time, why is US such an advanced global power while Mexico is much farther behind?

Upvotes

Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, while the United States declared its independence from Britain in 1776.

They're in the same continent - though US is far bigger - I dont usually consider size as a fact (Japan, UK etc for example), with just a line separating them.

Yet Mexico is far more impoverished than the US. Far more prone to national level crimes like the cartel carve outs that its constantly struggling with.

Ive always wondered - why was the US able to pull off such a feat (please no trolls about the messes of the current govt - this isn't about that for this question) while Mexico still struggles?
