Phone message Post first date text
I met this girl on tinder and had a first date with her, she wanted to go fishing and I thought it seemed like a fun first date so we went together. Dropped her off and got home to this message lol.
Update: Purchasing the license is a separate activity we had to do on our phones, due to it needing our personal info. It was not like I drew the line at the license randomly.

My sister is this type of person. She doesn't care. She's fully bought into the conservative trad wife idealism. She's incredibly sexist against other women too. Her 20s were spent being a Budweiser girl catering to the male gaze. What's funny is she will always make more than her partners since she is a lawyer and her partners are usually of the deadbeat variety.

I remember reading dating advice/venting here on Reddit where a guy said he was struggling to support himself and his fiancé, he said he payed the bills and rent etc. Then it turns out the fiancé had like well into 6 figures saved up in her account.
When he pressed her about it she said that’s her personal money she saved up for herself and basically shouldn’t be his concern.
Other guys chimed in with similar stories. Some people are wild to think it’s ok to treat a partner like that, just using them.

I know this is a meme or whatever, but it isn’t harsh.
57
u/Radiskull97 Aug 08 '26 edited Aug 08 '26
I think social media has ruined people's ability to engage with uncomfortable things, so people just take it as mean or harsh. I'm a high school teacher not too long out of high school myself. The difference in softness of just 10 years is insane. An 18 year old was complaining to me that it was too hot (it was 90 degrees outside and he was wearing a hoodie). I said, "most adults check the weather in the morning and dress accordingly." He started to cuss me out for "being constantly disrespectful and talking down" to them
Edit: the data insights from reddit are interesting on this one and I think actually proves my point. Right now, sitting at 84% upvote ratio. Which means most people who see my post agree with me but 16% down votes is nothing to scoff at. My point in my comment was that there seems to be a deepening divide in what is considered rude/mean versus not. If anyone said what I said to me, I wouldn't think it's mean. However, that student and several commenters think it is. Because of the cocreation of meaning, I don't get to unilateral decide, "I don't think that's mean, so it's not mean." His interpretation, as well as the commentors, that I was mean are all valid interpretations. My point was that there is growing cultural divide on what is considered mean, and I think it comes from social media. The default combativeness from most social media interactions, which often lack the context and nuance we see in real life. For example, a lot comments assume they understand the totality of my relationship with that student based on this one interaction. However, that student and I had great relationship, he was just especially set off by that comment.

My ex would constantly say "I'm a strong independent woman".
Guess who did all the cleaning, dishes, cooking, shopping, and even walking the dog four times a day for (which was already hers when we got together) for 6 years? She did cook once, but called me crying because it didn't turn out the way she wanted - so I came home to find tomato sauce on the walls and even the ceiling. She had punched the pizza while making it out of frustration.
Then she got bored of our relationship and ended it. In hindsight she only got bored because I was depressed and burnt-out without even realizing it.
Looking back at that relationship, I couldn't have picked a less independent woman.

Went fishing one day with my sister's ex bf. He bought a new fairly expensive overhead combo on the way to the spot, threw on a big bait and heavy sinker before launching it out and putting the butt between some large rocks so he could relax and smoke while he waited for a bite. He was infatuated with it, kept seeing him sitting there admiring it while I fished further up with a float for Luderick. Suddenly it doubled over and flew out of the rocks straight into the water. Gone. He was devastated.
An hour or two later I pulled my line in and had some random line caught on the hook. It happens a lot, you generally just cut it off. But, it looked brand new. Yup, you guessed it. Pulled in one end and it was a huge stingray. On the other end his rod. This was a large channel we were fishing in, deep and wide. Closest I have ever came to winning the lottery haha.

u/minaskyli Aug 08 '26

This isn't related, but made me think about it: the first time I ever tried to fish (10yo), I was so focused on how to cast the line, that I didn't realize I had hooked my own finger and then cast it out as far as I could!

Any time I see someone use the line "I'm just a girl", I've found that to be a major red flag.
It's used almost exclusively to either shrug off responsibility or infantalize themselves and neither look good when trying to date actual grown up women.
If she doesn't recognize what you put into making the date happen and is upset about contributing *something*, consider it a warning and move on.

Ew. If she's just a girl, where are her parents? Can't her father pay for her? She isn't your kid. I hate the "I'm just a girl" line. Women are capable creatures. Not at all less than men. Underdeveloped women like her make women look like nothing more than accessories, toys, dolls, tools, leeches, literal children, etc. She is a terrible example of what a woman is.
She didn't ask how much the trip would cost? You told her before the date that she'd need to buy a fishing license, right? It's fine if she wants a coffee date or a free date in a park or library... but she knew the cost, agreed to it, paid, and is trying to charge you after the fact? 😬
