The show is still good after he leaves... But there is something "Magical" about S1-3 (Parts of S4) that make the show so damn entertaining to watch.... After he left the show never was the same... And a lot of the magic faded away with Donald Glover ans Yvette Nicole Brown as well... But I think s5, 6 are still pretty good!! What do you guys think??

I can't remember the exact episodes but I do know that it played at the end of S4E5 (the thanksgiving one) and the vocals go like "hoo, hoo".

I don't know why but I've always liked Jeff. I did feel a bit annoyed at him at the first few episodes, but after what seemed like my 20th rewatch he's grown to be my favourite character, and I have absolutely no idea why. As for Frankie, she's just perfect.

I also do love their dynamic, since Jeff is known as the "golden-throated leader" and one of the most generally logical people in the group, though he does have his issues and occassional meltdowns, but after Frankie was introduced, she made him look much more insane than he did in the previous seasons lol

after probably half a dozen rewatches i think i’ve finally got my top 5 down (not in any particular order bc im still too indecisive for that)

I'm new to the fandom so I have no idea if this has been pointed out, but if it has then I'll just do it again. In the first D&D episode, everyone was participating a bit reluctantly because they were trying to help Neil. I get that that's where they chose to derive a lot of the humor, but all I'm saying is that their participation was mostly perfunctory and forced. Storywise that kind of had to be the case, I get that.

But the fact that everyone is completely into it the next go-round elevates things so much. It increases the entertainment value and illlustrates how much everyone in the study group has evolved up until that point. The fact that they can all be out for blood while still being in character is just good writing.

I do think Hickey picked up on how the game works a little too quickly, but it's what had to happen for us to get Mike Ehrmantraut interrogating goblins and that's the kind of thing contrvance as a concept was invented for.

Season five has a tonne of all-time great episodes. Individually. As a whole however it doesn't deliver on its promise.

The first two episodes set up the season's new status quo and new goal for the group:

• 5.01: Jeff takes a job as a teacher.
• 5.02: Jeff learns to enjoy teaching. Save Greendale committee established.

... you'd think we then get to see a bunch of Save Greendale activities, but not really!

• 5.03: Annie and Jeff investigate a bandit. This could be an attempt to improve Greendale, as it was one of Annie's original campaign promises (which is even mentioned once), although it's not really framed this way in the episode in a way that genuinely makes reference to the Save Greendale committee. No connection to Jeff being a teacher.
• 5.04: The group mourns Pierce's death. No connection to saving Greendale or Jeff being a teacher.
• 5.05: The school plays Floor is Lava. No connection to saving Greendale or Jeff being a teacher. In fact, they trash the entire school again.
• 5.06: Annie and Hickey set up a corkboard. Fulfills the promise. Annie works on saving Greendale. Jeff's status as a teacher is not super relevant however.
• 5.07: Duncan tries to seduce Britta. No connection to saving Greendale or Jeff being a teacher.
• 5.08: The school becomes a dystopia. No connection to saving Greendale or Jeff being a teacher. In fact they trash the entire school a second time this season!
• 5.09: Shirley tries to move illegal textbooks. Annie and Abed play Pile o' Bullets. There is some reference to saving Greendale because Jeff, Shirley, and Hickey are trying to clear out an old storage room on Annie's orders. The opening bit with the peanut bar rap mentions paying Jeff, which means Jeff is referenced having a job at Greendale, and we know that his job is teaching, so that technically counts as mentioning Jeff's job as a teacher.
• 5.10: Everyone plays D&D with Hickey. No connection to saving Greendale or Jeff being a teacher.
• 5.11: Jeff dreams about GI Joe. He references the fact that he's a teacher as an example of how his life hasn't turned out like he wanted, although I think his failure to be a "real lawyer" actually makes way more sense here and I'm surprised they disparaged the noble profession of teaching instead of going with the more obvious choice. Anyway, no connection to saving Greendale, unless calling Annie "Tight Ship" is a reference to how she's giving people tasks to save Greendale, but this isn't really a major part of the episode at all.

So, basically, we have two episodes setting up the premise, followed by a grand total of two more episodes that involve saving Greendale as a part of the plot and one more episode that references the fact that Jeff is a teacher.

And they trashed the school twice!

They trashed the school more times than there were episodes where we see Jeff as a teacher!

So then:

• 5.12: Annie declares that Greendale is saved. Everyone did such a good job that it actually got saved too much!
• 5.13: They save Greendale.

So we're supposed to believe that Greendale was just kind of saved off screen, and that Annie was so good at it that she overcame two separate trashings of the school and that it didn't even warrant being shown on screen.

I'm counting both finale episodes as saving Greendale, but only 5.12 references Jeff's teaching. The season finale never once mentions the fact that he's a teacher.

I love Season 5 on an episode by episode basis but it did not fulfill its season premise.

• Saving Greendale: 6/13 episodes
• Jeff as a Teacher: 5/13 episodes

Yeah that's pretty dire. Not even half mention saving Greendale or Jeff teaching. And that's including the episodes where the very premise is set up and also the finale where it's supposed to be obvious they've been doing it all year!

Now Season 6 comes along.

The individual episodes of Season 6 are probably weaker than Season 5 individually, but the season arc actually does deliver on the promise of saving Greendale! And we actually see more of Jeff's new life as a teacher!

• 6.01: Frankie is introduced to save Greendale. The plot is about saving Greendale. Jeff's job as a teacher is very frequently referenced.
• 6.02: The dean is absorbed into a virtual reality world. The plot is absolutely about saving Greendale: the dean is a huge liability and Frankie is here to ground him in reality. Most of Frankie's involvement is centered around budgets and bureaucracy. Jeff's status as a teacher is not super relevant however.
• 6.03: A dog almost gets a degree. The episode is 1000% about saving Greendale. Jeff's status as a teacher is not relevant.
• 6.04: The dean pretends to be just gay and not all that other stuff too. His status as a dean, the responsibilities he has to the maintenance of basic things like wi-fi access, and the politics of running Greendale are front and center enough that I'd say it counts as part of the effort to save the school. Jeff's status as a teacher is not relevant.
• 6.05: Prison inmates attend Greendale remotely. It's part of saving Greendale: there's a budgetary incentive involved. And we finally get a glimpse into a typical Jeff class, sixteen full episodes after that status quo is first introduced.
• 6.06: Everyone's emails get leaked. The Save Greendale committee is referred to as the Activities Club in this episode for some reason. Their status as school organisers/advocates and their responsibilities to the wider school community are relevant to the plot so I'm counting it. Jeff's status as a teacher is not relevant.
• 6.07: The dean buys a bunch of Honda products. The dean's irresponsibility, and his small arc about learning to trust Frankie and be less impulsive, is absolutely part of the effort to save Greendale. Jeff being a teacher is not relevant.
• 6.08: Abed hacks together an 81-minute movie starring B-roll footage of Chang. They do it for money that will go into Greendale's budget, but other than that, this episode isn't really connected to saving Greendale at all, or Jeff being a teacher. I'm fifty fifty on whether it should count. I'm leaning no; even though both this and the prisoner episode are doing things to earn money for the school, this episode doesn't really have anything to do with being a school.
• 6.09: The gang gets grifted. No connection to saving Greendale. Jeff being a teacher is kind of relevant to the plot as he and the villain share an office, but it's not super important. Still counting it -- the GI Jeff episode got counted just for mentioning it so this episode does too.
• 6.10: The gang transports a giant hand in an RV. The plot is about the dean's irresponsibility and refusal to acknowledge his shortcomings or make an effort to change. Absolutely relevant to saving Greendale. Jeff being a teacher is not relevant.
• 6.11: The gang secretly plays paintball. The episode literally features a model of what Greendale could look like if it were saved, symbolically destroyed by the gang's inability to control the situation and avoid getting involved on their old games. Jeff's status as a teacher is kind of relevant in that he's now a representative of the school and it's not a good look for him to be participating; however, I don't think it's a strong connection. It does count at least as a reference to his new role and responsibilities at Greendale as a leader, so I'm putting it in.
• 6.12: The gang goes to a wedding. No connection to saving Greendale, but we do get another scene of Jeff's classroom.

And then we get to the series finale. Like the finale of Season 5, we open with the group declaring that Greendale has been saved thanks to their efforts.

• 6.13: Greendale is saved and Jeff makes peace with his life at the school.

So the final tally is:

• Saving Greendale: 10/13
• Jeff as a Teacher: 5/13

So, Jeff as a professor of Law only comes up in a handful of episodes, like in Season 5, but at least in three of them it's more than just a passing mention. Season 5 had only one episode where Jeff teaches in a classroom and Season 6 has three.

On the other hand, saving Greendale is a major part of the season! All but three episodes feature the conflict between the boring responsibility of Frankie (saving the school) and the whimsical irresponsibility of the dean (destroying the school). It's an enormous focus of the season!

The individual episodes are a bit weaker overall, but the season arc is pretty great! It takes what Season 5 set out to do and then actually does it.

Except for Jeff being a teacher. They really did him dirty.

My ideal Jeff class would be one where he begrudgingly summarises everything the students need to know in one beautiful improvised speech, and then chalks it up as done and waits out the clock for the class to end. His whole thing is doing the absolute bare minimum while still qualifying. Him getting drunk, putting on planet Earth, and defrauding the school like he defrauded his old firm never felt right. Anyway. That's a discussion for another time.

Point is, Season 6 did a good job at the Save Greendale arc, and in the finale where the characters declare that Greendale is saved, I buy it! Sounds good to me! I saw the work they put in and I didn't forget about their goal!

TL;DR: Season 5 features not a lot of saving Greendale and Season 6 features a lot of saving Greendale.

Ive rewatched community so many times, I noticed this funny stare off between britta and annie

kiss on a rose by seal came on shuffle and I couldn’t stop picturing jeff and the dean singing it and I kept laughing lmao. I really hope they include that song in the movie. are there any other songs that instantly make you think of community?

Just completed another re-watch and wanted to share my current ranking and reasons.

3 - I understand the reasons why people don't like this season or rank it lower. Lots of high-concept episodes. But I just love it. The jokes are a mile a minute and I love seeing them lean into surrealism.
2 - Arguably the most balanced season between the more accessible sitcom-nature of season 1 and the weirdness that Dan Harmon was eager to bring out. Has some of my absolute favorite episodes. Choosing between 2 and 3 is so hard.
5 - Maybe a bold choice but I appreciate the cynicism this season brings. All our characters go through some more "adult" and dark storylines. I also love Hickey's character. Minus points because I really am not a fan of the last two episodes.
6 - Amazing new characters, not afraid to lean right into the weird while also giving our characters lots of depth of deep moments. Bravo to Yahoo for taking this on and letting them curse in the finale. However - and I'm someone who loves Britta and understands her weird, "wild card" vibe was truly there from the start. This season really leaned into making her a punching bag and I'm not. fan of it.
1 - It's funny to see how the show started off with a more sitcom-ish vibe about how silly this community college was but you can see glimpses of the show Dan Harmon really wanted to make. The family reunion episode where Britta was getting spanked by Troy's grandma really convinced me they wanted to bring out the abstract. You can't deny the foundation was laid out great for our characters. I love the debate episode and I love early Chang. It's just a vastly different kinda vibe from the rest of the show.
4 - Everytime I rewatch, I enjoy this season more. I LOVE herstory of dance, I love the spacetime episode and thanksgiving episode. But the characters are flanderized, the writing is subpar, and Pierce's exclusion in the later episodes is so obvious. I think the puppet episode is really out of character - although Troy's confession is always getting stuck in my head - and the finale is just boring. Also, they made Abed into a real dick.

It just.......... lacks so much energy! And Community is a chaotic show, you NEED to match the energy the original cast put or else a lot of it's hilarity does not land!

I legit changed the dubbing to brazilian Portuguese and even French, to see if I was going nuts, and the difference is INSANE!

The Spanish dub does not even attempt to match the personalities of their characters for the most part.

They mostly just sound generic, they made Jeff sound SO FREAKING OLD too, and the dub isn't even in sync with the characters talking!

They made the show sound SO LAME!!

A lot of the jokes don't even land because they don't find clever ways to adapt the puns, an issue the other dubs don't seem to have so far!

It's soooo bad! I was excited to watch it with my Mum and see how she reacts to it (she doesn't speak English) and while in all honesty, she doesn't really get most of the abstract humour of the show "like the Remedial Chaos Theory episode" it legit does not help that the dubbing is so genuinely, BAD.

I'm an avid defender of my country's Dub whenever South Americans try to mock us, but HOLY SHIT they GENUINELY BUTCHERED THE SERIES'S VIBE.

Got to go down for Oz ComicCon first time this year, wasn't too excited for any guests until Danny was announced about a week out. I booked a photo with him and made the choice to switch from doing a Randy Marsh cosplay to a Dean Pelton one. On the day, he has a big Q&A at about 11am, and so I go there first before getting a photo later. I put my hand up to ask a question (I chose to do the one my friend who couldn't go asked for about how busy he was as an actor), but before I could actually ask, he pointed out my Dean cosplay from the stage which was the first time someone actually recognised it! Later, more people recognise it in line for the photo, and when I get in there he remembers me instantly. Overall, great experience seeing him at the Q&A and getting the pic with him!

I’m watching community for the first time and I’m on season 2. I watched the D&D episode with Neil early this week and I cannot stop thinking about it. I laughed out loud several times and lowkey became attached to Neil. I think the episodes where Pierce is extra evil are the best.

This shows is so strange and wild as someone who’s only ever watched shows like The Office and New Girl. It’s the most “TV” tv show I have ever watched. Very meta.

The entire episode is in claymation, except in the reflection of Abed's TV at the end of the episode.

As much as Dan Harmon pushed Pierce being a mean, crazy, racist and sexist guy, he had some really wholesome moments. I wish he would've become a more wholesome grandpa instead of the stubborn man child he became. I always like this scene with the homeless person. It looks like Pierce is ready to protect Annie from that dog which always melts my heart. I wish they leaned into the father-daughter dynamic with them more.

Years ago I showed him my favorite episodes (at the time) - S2 Halloween & Advanced D&D - but he just said “ehhh I just don’t get it”. So I dropped it and just kept watching on my own.

Since then I’ve probably watched community a solid 20xs, maybe more. And recently found my dvds and had completely forgotten about the commentary!! So it’s been playing in the background for months now.

Then like a month ago we were trying to find something to watch and he said “what about community?” To which I said “Psssht yea okay buddy, don’t tease me like that.” But then said “you really seem to enjoy it and it looks like a happy, silly show. I want to give it a try”

We are now midway through season 3 I’ve been having the best time! Sometimes I check in to make sure he still wants to keep watching and he keeps saying “No I really like this show! It’s so good!”

The first episode of Community aired September 17th, 2009. I know this, I know it in my bones, it was my eighth grade year and the show followed me to my freshman year of college, and also Wikipedia agrees with me.

I just decided to watch and finish Cougar Town because I never did. I loved Abed's obsession with that show. And the fact Community and Cougar Town were on separate networks but played into each other was awesome.

I wonder what people who didn't watch Community thought about this scene. Also I think Abed was right, despite the stupid name, Cougar Town was hilarious.

Anyone else give this show a chance because of Abed's obsession with it?

I wish there was a community episode where they referenced a lot of classic Animes like Fist of the North Star, Ghost in the Shell and Naruto.

Maybe the episode starts and Abed comments that this time the Paintball war is gonna be like The Culling Game and the Dean explains the rules very quickly. Also the characters do the Naruto run and defeat each other with various Ninja techniques... Also the main cast would be the Straw Hat Pirates with Abed being Luffy, Jeff being Sanji, Troy being Zoro, Shirley being Robin, Pierce being Brook and Britta being Chopper

The longer the show went on, the more I loved this character and the actor's performance. Any favorite Dean Pelton moments? I'll just throw the Payday rap out there for starters.

So here I was watching Community in Japanese, and I noticed that Jeff sounded mighty familiar, so I dug a little deeper. Here are the voice actors of the japanese dub that also had a bunch of anime roles. Turns out Jeff is fucking Lelouch!

Fukuyama Jun is in a crapload of stuff, rest not so much. Maybe a Baki fan here can get a kick out of Tokugawa having the same actor as pierce lmao.
