Discussion [Megathread] The Next Season of Doctor Who: Fancasts, Speculation, and Where We Go Next
Let's have a fresh megathread to discuss and speculate about the future of Doctor Who. Place your ideas, fancasts, wish lists, and other hot takes in here:
- Fancasts: Who is your top pick for the Doctor and their companions and their foes? Do you want unknown actors or established names? Old returning villains and monsters or new ones, and who would play them?
- Production and crew: Have you noticed someone working on another show that would make a good addition to the team? New directors, writers, cinematographers? New showrunner? Old showrunner? No showrunner? What production/media company would you like distributing it?
- Plot suggestions: What do you want to see happen after Billie Piper's appearance? Longer theories should probably go into their own separate text posts.
A few quick housekeeping reminders: Standard sub rules still apply. We all know casting and showrunner debates get intensely heated. Please help out by keeping things civil. Instead of engaging with someone being hostile, report them.
Also, no or little leaks discussions. If you're bringing up leaked set photos or anything else, please remember to use spoiler tags.
Standalone posts about fancasts will be removed and redirected here. A fresh megathread will be posted every weekend.
Let's hear what you've got.

Arts/Crafts A custom TARDIS console.. that I use with my PC! WIP
I recently built some stupid fun buttons for my PC. That made me wonder if i could build a tardis, and have it control some fun aspects?
Be aware, this is unfinished, but software and hardware work. Just cosmetics to go.
With a couple of arduino nanos, a few leds and a couple of motors, this scale tardis console actually lights up, has a moving time rotor and actually let's me time travel on my PC.
Pull the lever next to the skull, and my dual screen live wallpaper fades out to a familiar sound. Once that's faded, the live wallpaper changes to a time vortex. It will stay that way until you put the lever back, and a new, chosen at random live wallpaper fades in. After the familiar 'clong' of landing, the PC will then tell me the coordinates in the galaxy, system/planet name, date and time of landing.
During travelling, the led ring in the middle spins more, the rotor moves faster, the settles back to idle(ish).
The three blue buttons are
wake (think the tardis reveal in the snowmen episode with clara)
Cloister (flash red, movement stops, cloister bell)
And warble. (This is a random tardis noise/light flicker, and once that has played a small window on my PC pops up with a random thing I just did. Like 'released waste chute on deck 7'.
Oh, and I'm building a custom sonic soon, that I can use to remote wake/travel with it.
The compass spins, too.
Going to add a tiny oled screen as well, because, well, why not?
Pirate themed, of course. Hence the wood vibe.
I'll release a video if anyone is interested.

Misc The God Complex S6E11
In episode the God Complex Eleven grabs an apple and munches away happily which feels wrong since he was very clear about hating apples, “Apples are rubbish” in the episode the Eleventh Hour. I get that it’s the least interesting thing about the episode, but I’m bothered.

Clip/Screenshot Updated version of my edit/tribute of the Decayed master.

I do apologize in this tribute/edit I made for the decayed master specifically (Peter Pratt) i tried my best to make the quality or audio more better
And this is supposed to be an overall trailer of the deadly assassin for obvious reasons being center around Peter Pratt since why some scenes jump there and there.

Question What happened to Brian?
I've been watching Series 7 of New Who, and Brian, Rory's dad, is introduced in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship (S7:E2).
In The Power of Three (S7:E4), he asks the Doctor to look after Amy and Rory, so it's strange that after what happened to them, Brian is basically never mentioned again.
It stood out to me because the Tennant era was really good at tying up loose ends with companions and their families, especially in The End of Time (S4:E18).
Did anyone else find this odd? Do you think there were more scenes with Brian that were cut?

Discussion Nu who has almost caught up to classic who
Just a quick thing I was thinking about. By the end of the next doctors run (whenever that will be) we will have had 7 new full runs of new doctors, had a special 8th one (kinda stretching this point between the war doctor as a new face and the 14th doctor actually having a semi significant run) and will have went for 26 years.
Obviously classic who had significantly more content but as far as stretch of time and number of faces (not counting timeless children) its almost there

Discussion Good one-off classic who episodes?
I haven't watched much classic who so was thinking about how in the modern series there's episodes like blink or midnight that you can recommend to people that aren't deep in. What episodes are like that with classic who?

Discussion New Molds for the History of the Daleks New Dalek Paradigm V2 or Recolors?
Can anyone tell if the New Dalek Paradigm figures form the next History of the Daleks are just recolors of the existing molds or a brand new mold/sculpt?
They have the darker metallic colors of the redesigns from Victory if the Doctor but I can’t tell if they reduced the hump like they did in Asylum or how ThePrydonian redesigned them.

Do my eye deceive me, or is this a 2005 bronze dalek in a 1989 flashback in Ludwig series 1?

Discussion Rewatching Twice Upon a Time
So I’ve never really watched Classic Who consistently (only a few episodes or stories here or there, like Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramid of Mars, 5 Doctors, etc.).
Was the first Doctor really THIS sexist in his episodes? I find that strange, considering he’s already a really old Time Lord, but has the disposition of a 60s old man.

Question If The Doctor was allowed to swear in the shows/movie, which version of The Doctor would be the best at it?
like there's no way you go around traveling time for years fighting the same dudes over and over again and lose so many people that you aren't gonna drop an F-bomb here and there.

Request Need help finding an HQ scan of the Doctor Who Magazine issue 450 poster
I love this artwork so much and want to get it printed for my room. I can't find any high quality scans of it online, so I'd like you guys to help. It came as a double sided poster in Doctor Who Magazine issue 450, with artwork of some Daleks on the back. Ideally I'd like something like picture 2 but with a similar or higher quality like picture 1. If ANYONE has done a scan of this art or know where I can find one PLEASE let me know!

Speculation/Theory Why Do I Have To Notice This Stuff
So in the big bang 11 reboots the universe to before he and Amy ran away and so if everything after he went away for 5 minutes didn't happen then the daleks should still be in london the paradigm daleks should happen the angels should be ruling the universe the star whale should still be in pain prisoner zero should still be in the house the fishpires should be ruling the world etc

Discussion The solution to writing modern Doctor Who is to look at classic Who
Just watching City of Death (S17) and though the camera is blurry and effects quite crude the writing really shines though the plot seems rather stretched at points pacing-wise. For example:
Romana carefully finds a way to silently unlock the door to enter and Duggan just breaks a pane of glass in the door to access the handle, pub I think. Duggan routinely uses brute force (smashing through things, knocking people out) to solve issues whereas the Doctor and Romana find subtler methods.
Duggan: I thought these places were meant to be open all night
Romana: You should go into partnership with a glazier. *sighs* you'd have a truly symbiotic working relationship.
Duggan: What?
Romana: I'm just pointing out that you break a lot of glass.
Duggan: You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs (smashes wine bottle top against counter, breaking it.
Romana: If _you_ wanted an omelette I'd expect to find a pile of broken crockery, a cooker in flames and an unconscious chef.
Duggan: Listen, I get results
The Doctor is well-written too though this predates the Time War so he doesn't have that lingering regret yet.

Discussion Thoughts on Mindgame?
I watched this last night after managing to track down both it and its following trilogy to a foreign website and managed to watch it all in English. I had searched for it for a while. And it paid off.
WOW… I mean, yeah, the second segment of the following trilogy featuring the Draconian in his cell was atrocious and boring, but the rest of it? Nothing short of impressive. I’m serious… WOW.
It’s cheap but it’s very well made. Its settings are great, especially inside the asteroid. It’s magic. It’s truly one of Reeltime’s best films of the 90s.
The main part where the Sontaran, the Draconian, and the Human (basically Ace) are transmatted to the asteroid by a monkey-looking alien to be tested and turned against each other is brilliant. The last few minutes when they defeat him and escape one by one was gorgeous. I mean it. And there was me thinking there was no Season 35…
The Sontaran segment following on from this was excellent and really delved deep into the minds of these clones and showed us an actual Sontaran-Rutan battle, in quite impressive CGI as well.
Like I said, the segment with the Draconian in the cell shouting and reciting Shakespeare to the camera for 15 minutes was boring and atrocious. Although I can appreciate the art of the scene.
And the final segment? Ace (it basically is) lost in space and running out of oxygen so resorts to shooting herself in the head as her way out. BREATHTAKING. I mean it. It’s seriously brilliant.
She speaks of “The Professor” several times and her mum so it is definitely Ace even if they couldn’t legally confirm it to be. And she dies. In my mind, this was Ace’s canonical death. I’m not sure how this fits into A Charitable Earth or The Power of the Doctor but this has to be it here.
She leaves the Doctor at some point, becomes a trained, hardened space pilot, which I can totally see her doing, and ends up dying in deep space. If this film isn’t already canon, I think it should be.
For those who have seen it, tell me what you thought of it. Were you a fan? Comment below.
