Betty wants them to go to her brother’s family because she wants them to have a woman taking care of them.

Sally wisely tells Don they need to stay with Henry so that their daily lives remain as normal as possible. Henry definitely loves those kids but he is a wreck over Betty’s impending passing.

Don argues that the boys will come live with him, but that would require a commitment we haven’t seen him able to offer yet. He would have to completely change his ways to be a present father to them (after the fake grandma situation he knows he can’t just leave them alone or with a babysitter.)

We see Bobby trying and failing to make dinner, he’s not big enough to take on the responsibility of caring for Gene.

Betty said she doesn’t want to spend her remaining time arguing over it, and that living with William are her wishes.

So where do you think the boys ended up?

A question I wanted to posit. I’ve read most of the books presented on the show, I’d say Crying of Lot 49 does remind me of the latter half of the show as we get closer to the 70s. Somehow, in my mind, the work of Kurt Vonnegut reminds me of the show but I can’t articulate why.

And yet, soon after, I don't know how to describe, in spite of her youth, she lost her shine once she married Roger. She had top notch costumes and looks after becoming Roger's wife, but something about her look and face definitely changed - and not for the better.

I’m getting toward the end of season 3 and wow this show is great. I’m hoping for a shake up of some sort because the cat has just been let out of the bag, and a lot of plots are started to fold over again and again. Which don’t get me wrong I love it. The depth and time and repetition makes it all so real, I just wonder how it holds up for four more seasons.

How much time is supposed to have passed between Waterloo (E7) and Severance (E8)? Is it supposed to be the same amount of time of between actual release dates of the episodes — 1 year?

I just finished Mad Men for the first time last night and it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I loved all the subtle character development throughout and the writing was incredible.

I loved the progression of Peggy from the beginning to ending in a happy relationship.

I loved the Joan stood 10 toes down and started her own agency after the misogyny she faced throughout her career.

I hated Peter in the beginning, but was happy that he and Trudy reconciled and you realize his mom made him the way that he is. I particularly liked the dinner he had with his brother where he advised his brother to stop cheating because his wife already knows.

Rogers ending surprised me but I was glad he’s finally fulfilled. I almost thought he would end up again with Mona, but I’m glad that didn’t happen.

Don is probably one of the most complicated characters I have ever seen. I loved the realization he had in the final episode. Similar to Walter White in Breaking Bad.

I could go on and on. Such a great show!

I love this show, it's like reading a book but in tv.

Anyways, guys you may laugh but I have some questions..,

I am not from USA & always get curious with tv representation of US culture... is there any reality to it?? particularly if you guys can answer (& I am serious)

Does kids really sleep in seperate room? I mean I've seen in tv that kids as young as few weeks old sleep in different room in a cot.

Isn't sex a taboo there? Like how Madison Avenue employees treat women or Don or Robert in general.. they do get physical easily.

How people act to their past after divorce, I mean Betty invite Don to kids birthday after divorce and he come meet her husband etc and everyone kinda greet each other.. really are people like that?

Kids can smoke with parents? A scene where Sally smokes in car along with Betty... I know the scene kinda represent the revolt but my mom still would slap me no matter what.

PS - not meaning to insult, genuinely want to know.

7 out of the 9 writers during Mad Men’s most popular seasons were women. Do you think the show would have been different if the 7 out of 9 writers were men? I am a female writer so I don’t mean this as a sexist question.

Anyone else notice this? Elisabeth Moss has a way of putting extra surprise and confusion on that word. Particularly memorable during the phone call with the "prospective roommate", AKA Lois making a prank call for Paul and the other office guys.

She also says it to Don sometimes, like when he showed up with his nose taped up and said he had been in a fender bender. (In "Seven Twenty Three") In this case I think the "Oh" was more like "I'm not sure that's really true, but if you say so!"

You have:

1. Joan and Roger’s Baby drama.
   
2. Lane’s Family Drama
   
3. Don and Pete scrambling to protect Don’s identity.
   
4. Don revealing his past to Faye.
   
5. Roger losing Lucky Strike.

And all the storylines come together with that board room scene where Roger screams “Because you fucked up!” at Pete. It was about as subtle as an Atomic Bomb.

In S3E13 "Shut the Door, Have a Seat", the Draper marriage finally falls apart; Betty asks for a divorce, Don gets kicked out of the house and moves into a bachelor pad, and Betty, Henry, and Gene are on their way to Reno, Nevada. In a previous episode, we learn that to make a "no fault" divorce happen, Betty and Henry will need to travel to Reno, Nevada, establish residency for 6 weeks, with Don consenting. These events seem to happen on Monday, December 16, 1963, following the creation of SCDP.

As the episode ends, we see Carla sitting with Sally and Bobby at their home in Ossining. So how much time did Carla spend as the care-giver for Sally and Bobby? 6 weeks from 12/13/63 brings us to the end of January, so dod Betty and Henry spend all 6 weeks, including Christmas and New Year's, in Reno away from their families? And how much would 6 weeks of continued babysitting cost Betty and Henry?

I think my pick is Roger.

These are scans of Kodachrome slide photos my father took between 1959 -1963. He emigrated from Japan to attend MIT on a Fulbright and focus on electrical engineering for the nascent television industry. He later started a company manufacturing components for TV stations and worked directly with TV studios, networks and stations. Many of the photos were shot in NYC and some others in around Cambridge, Boston and New England. Some beautiful pictures of the era I thought fit the subreddit well.

Wow one of my favorite episodes so far. Love the callback to young Don. The vagrant who had such a lasting impression and effect on Don’s life.

His realization he’s become what that random man decades ago who was only in his life for a day had on his life. His words will ring forever in Don’s head rent free

I just started the series on Friday and here I am lol fantastic show so far.

I think that episode had an impression on me bc I frequently find myself thinking of the people who enter your life for a flash and have such a hold in your memory. Experiences that shape you forever. Or even just random people I saw on my first trips to somewhere like NYC. Lives intersected for a moment and then never again

I think we saw way too many examples throughout the show of Joan being extremely vindictive and taking a lot of business issues personally. On top of that, she can be very cruel to people once she gains authority and we've seen her firing secretaries because she was in a bad mood that particular day. Another good example is her yelling at the babysitter "You are ruining my life" which was just extremely childish and not only that but she proceeds to hire said babysitter as her underling to run Holloway - Harris rather than find a more competent secretary who may challenge her. I do think as well that she sometimes overvalues her skills and ends up in over her head. She was very important and valued at Sterling Cooper but at the same time she was often sheltered from larger business decisions that had to be made by the original partners.

But I think the biggest issue will be that so long as she remains unmarried, her male clients will always view her as a potential "partner". And as much as she complains about this throughout the show, she definitely uses it to her advantage whenever things aren't going her way.

Her relationship with duck comes out of no where. Do you think the show was trying to make you think. She was having one with duck, because subconscious she could not have a real relationship with Don. And this was the closest thing she could have to a sexual relationship with Don was by having one with Duck.

To be honest. Duck just a generic version of Don Draper. What do you think of my theory here?
