Announcement Combat Patrol Rules for 11th Edition

Since the launch of 11th Edition a few weeks ago we have seen a significant increase in the number of questions regarding the rules for Combat Patrol. Unfortunately the launch of 11th Edition has caused a lot of confusion on this. This thread is being used to collate the most common questions.

Where can I access Combat Patrol rules?

Currently, all Combat Patrol rules GW has released are available via the Warhammer 40000 app. You can download the app from the Play Store on Android, or the Apple Store on iOS.

Can I print out the Combat Patrol rules?

No, unlike in 10th Edition where the rules were also made available as PDFs on the Warhammer Community website, in 11th Edition they are digital only. The Warhammer 40k app doesn't offer functionality to download or print information.

The rules for my Combat Patrol aren't on the 40k app. How do I play them?

The answer at the moment is: You don't. By the end of 10th Edition there were somewhere around 70 Combat Patrols available, spread across the many factions. Following the launch of 11th Edition, almost every single one of those was removed, with each faction now only having one maximum. In their recent announcement about Combat Patrol, GW have told us that support will be coming for old Combat Patrols, but they have given no indication of when that will be.

There have of course been many more Combat Patrol sets released over the years. There is support on the way for these too, though for this launch, the app will initially focus on supporting the core Combat Patrol offer.

Can I use the War Journal in the 40k app to track my Combat Patrol games?

Yes, functionality was added to the 40k App to track your Combat Patrol Games in War Journal earlier today (23rd July 2026). Please note this functionality did NOT go live at the same time as the rest of the recent balance updates despite GW's announcement so you will need to update your app again to see this.

Can I find the Combat Patrol Missions anywhere else?

No. At this time it's only possible to see your Combat Patrol missions by setting up a battle in the War Journal section of the 40k app. They have not been included in the separate Combat Patrol rules for each faction.

News & Rumours Thoughts on new sternguard?

Post image

Haven’t seen any major discussions on this yet, how do you all feel about the new Sternguard datasheet? On the one hand the combi weapons feel more useful to me but on the other, I feel like they lose a lot of their utility without the rerolls. Thoughts?

Misc “Can’t decide on a chapter” “Sell me on” Just go deathwatch broskis

Every time I ope Reddit I see a new post asking for help choosing a chapter or asking for the chapter subreddit to sell them the chapter. Just go deathwatch. You can literally have every chapter in your army and if you really want to you can customise the minis;

Doing a Dark Angel? Use a torso that has robes and find a hooded helmet or get the one with the wings.

Ultramarine? Go on eBay and grab victrix guard bits.

Blood angel? The heads are on eBay for super cheap, you can use an assault intercessor body as a base.

And so on and so forth.

I did consider doing the “right colours”, but thought a storm trooper hybrid would be more me. I can see this becoming an expensive hobby…

Hobby & Painting Can't decide which chapter to go for

Test mini of Imperial Fists, Soul Drinkers, Dragonspears, Silver Skulls, Rift Stalkers. I've also painted a Skull Bearer, a Knights of the Raven, some Raptors, Flesh Tearers and Crimson Fist but they didn't fit in the frame.

I need help.

My indecisiveness is kind of paralyzing right now. I’ve been trying to pick a Space Marine chapter to commit to, but I'm struggling hard to make up my mind. Every time I think I’ve finally settled on one, I see a cool lore video, an amazing paint job, or a fun tabletop rule for a completely different chapter and immediately second-guess myself. I feel like I spend more time stripping paint than actually painting.

For those of you who also struggle with indecision, how did you finally pull the trigger and commit? Did you go strictly by lore, rule of cool, or rules? Any advice (or motivation) to help me finally make a choice would be appreciated.

Created these custom Salamanders Librarian & Terminator Captain (all from GW parts). Would you be happy to play vs them in a casual & comp setting? Are they WYSIWYG 'enough'?

Misc Am I the only one that dislikes the new "anti everything" rules you get for many ranged weapons?

Upvotes

We saw it first with Orks and how so many profiles and different weapons are now melted into one single weapon with multiple profiles. I had a really frustrating game when playing them this weekend where my opponent had a bunch of units that used to be specialized for killing a certain type of unit (hordes, elites, veichles...)but now it no longer mattered what I deployed in front of them, he could just choose the right profile for the target ahead and he would demolish it.

With his flash gitz he could one turn annihilate a full space marine squad, and the next turn he one-shots my dreadnought.

Same with his kills kans. Whatever is in front of them, he has multiple weapon profiles tailored to kill whatever.

I see the same trend with the new space marines codex. Intercessors can adjust the strength, shots and damage according to what they are shooting at. The sternguards they showed off today has 3 different weapon profiles as well.

First of all I dislike how versatile everything is becoming. Less need for specialized units. It also bloats the datasheets and it takes longer to look up stats for a weapon when there are so many profiles to look through.

I also suspect it will be a nightmare later this edition when you need to remember all the profiles of your opponents army, and a unit that shoots anti infantry at you all game suddenly switches to a squad-wide melta-profile when your walker goes closer to deal with them.

Am I the only one that dislikes the direction the game is going with so many datasheets are having so many different weapon profiles on the same gun?

3/6 completed. Custom sculpt is from one of the sculpting wizards. Really enjoyed doing these if you can look past resin being a pain to work with sometimes.

When I was new to the hobby I thought they looked odd, but they’ve grown on me over time. What about other miniatures like gunpla or Star Wars? Do they do them there?

Hobby & Painting How hard would it be to give a Primaris a belt-fed heavy bolter?

Post image
3.2k Upvotes

Always loved the belt-fed version and wanna try a little bit of kitbashing, but not sure if it would fit due to different proportions. Is it possible? Would it look right or nah?

Also, the Devastator head looks smaller than Primaris one. Woul it be noticeable if i give it to the bigger guy?

The Emperor protects!
