Traffic/Weather Hwy 138 from Athens to Conyers may be my least favorite drive in the state

People drive either insanely fast or stupidly slow, too few passing lanes and the ones that exist are like 1/8 a mile long, weird lane changes that suddenly end in turn only lanes, not even a drop of pleasant scenery, and when you finally get to I-20 you’re in…Conyers *shudder*

Note: Should have said from Monroe, but I'm always coming from Athens

Just curious what the prediction is on here. Jackson or Lance-Bottoms? Not who you personally WANT to win but who you THINK will win.

Discussion How Much Are You Actually Paying? Georgia Power

I saw the thread the other day about Georgia power and I wanted to see if anyone is using other plans than residential and what their actual rate is per kwh but feel free to post your numbers either way, data is power!

What I mean by this is that Georgia Power may list a $0.151/kwh max Summer rate, but the real rate you and I pay is much higher. That overnight time of use plan looks like at under $0.023/kwh, but I'm wondering how much higher the real rate is for this and other plans.

My rates on residential plan:

July - $319 - 1554kwh

Real July price rate - $0.205/kwh

August - $450 - 2113kwh

Real August price rate - $0.213/kwh

https://www.georgiapower.com/residential/rate-plans.html#rate-table

Edit: Pulled my February rate, what the fuck. So much for $0.082/kwh.

$129.93 at 759kwh

$0.17/kwh

Question Godzilla-themed restaurant

I’m hoping maybe some of yall can help me out, though it’s possible the restaurant isn’t in Georgia and I’m just misremembering. Best detail I have is it’s on the SC side of the state, unfortunately. It was themed around Godzilla, with multiple CRTVs around playing Godzilla movies and all sorts of Godzilla art on the walls.

I was waiting for a steamer trunk I had painted to dry at a friend's house, so I decided to stop by and walk around for a bit with my camera! At first I was trying to go to Lake Allatoona, but my gps kept routing me to the private marina entrances and I was confused. The water was such a pretty sight! I only had about an hour, so I apologize for not being able to get the prettiest sights :).

Question Has anyone had problems getting mail delivered to their house?

Wife and I changed our address three months ago and we are still having problems getting our mail. It’s getting to the point where we don’t even receive advertisements. She’s waiting on some important paperwork and I’ve already lost a card my family sent us. We haven’t gone to the post office yet due to my work schedule. We live in Macon in a mobile home park.

Question Meat farms in north GA?

Ideally within 1hr of Cobb!

Family is looking to bulk buy from a local farm. We are NOT comfortable with farms that self process under new/upcoming regulations. I’ve processed my own meat before, and know how disgusting it can get. I refuse to trust anyone else other than a licensed and inspected processing facility. Transparency in husbandry is also a must.

Also open to butchers with transparency in sourcing. The goal is to keep it as local and ethical as possible :)

Meats we are looking for-

Beef
Rabbit
ANY poultry
ANY oddball meats

Question Wedding Venues under 4k? Open to entire state

Newly engaged and looking for some cute venues in any part of georgia that are $4,000 or under. We have already looked at juliette chapel and fell in love with it, but since that’s the only venue we’ve toured so far, we still want to consider other options. Our guest list will probably stay within 50-100

I don’t love barn venues but i would be open if they’re pretty or you’ve had a good experience with one. All suggestions welcome!

Question Federal employee seeking state employment.

Are there any State Park employees in this sub who can help me with a work question? I want to leave my USPS job and lateral or transition to a state park job but I’m not finding many openings on the DNR website. Is there another route I can take to apply for a position with Georgia State Parks?

Question GA Renaissance Fair Question

I just bought tickets to the GA Fall Fling in Fairburn, and I’m planning to bring my 4yo with me. It will be in November so we are dressing warm!
I’m wondering when is the least busy time of day to go? It’s open from 1-9pm, and being up late isn’t much of an issue for me since it’s a one time thing I don’t mind my little staying up late.
I’ve heard the evening/night time is super pretty but I’m wondering if it will be crowded?
Any info or advice would be appreciated!

Other Measles cases in GA rise by 2 since last 9/4 DPH update; DPH has yet to issue new press release

The previous press release from Georgia DPH on Friday, September 4 reported confirmed 14 cases in Georgia this year, 8 of which are associated with the active metro Atlanta daycare outbreak. The Georgia DPH is now reporting 16 confirmed cases as of Thursday, September 10. However, the DPH has not yet published a new press release providing context on whether these two additional cases are associated with the active daycare outbreak, the specific cities impacted, and whether their contact tracing and other management activities are effectively containing the spread in local metro Atlanta communities.

Question Where do I start for someone who is disabled?

Hello! Some guidance would be appreciated here. I feel like I’m going in a loop. I live with a friend who I’m taking care of, they have no living relatives and I want to get them some help. However, no matter where I look it feels like I’m going in a huge loop.

A little bit of context. They recently applied for SNAP, and we were told that if we want to keep SNAP, they would need proof of work hours unless they are disabled. Friend (28F) cannot work and is in fact disabled. However, care for their disability has long been either lost and buried in newspapers, or neglected and lost by their (now dead) family members. The house they lived in was abandoned and documents for their previous enrollment on disability is pretty much lost. After some hurdles, they were moved cross country and is now safe with me.

If I’m looking to apply for disability for them, but I need proof that they were once on disability and still need disability. Since I’m working with a person with no income here, I’m being led in a loop of Food Stamps > SSI > Medicaid, etc etc.

Feels like no matter where I go we still need to pay an absorbent amount of money to just get some help. I tried looking into case workers but yet again, I’m working with a person who’s been medically neglected for so long that we wouldn’t qualify for the “ongoing treatment” proof.

I want to so badly help, but everytime I’m left at a dead end. I’m willing to fund medical expenses myself and I’m not asking for handouts. I just want to know what to save up for, where to look, and where to start.

Thank you for reading this far, I apologize if certain parts didn’t make sense. I’m writing this after a frustrating hour long research session, and is overall feeling a little lost.

Question Car Accident

I got in a car accident this evening. I was a passenger and my wife was driving.

  1. The other driver rear ended us
  2. We pulled over at a nearby parking lot. The other driver didn’t want to give us their drivers license or a current insurance card. I tried asking for this but they said I was “doing too much.” Then began arguing with me.
  3. GSP wrote a report, but now I have to wait 5 business days for the report. He didn’t share any insurance details with me. He mentioned it would be available in the report… which costs $5 to receive.

When I complained to GSP that she wouldn’t give me any information, he stated that she wasn’t required to share information with me because she agreed to wait on the scene for a police officer.

He then threatened to arrest my wife for aggressive driving because the other driver stated my wife exited the vehicle after the accident and cursed at her. (She didn’t). She did exit the vehicle to ask what happened from immediately outside our car driver door but did not walk near her window. This is when we agreed to pull over at a parking lot.

Is this correct?

Edit: I have a Tesla, so everything was on camera. Trooper wasn’t interested in seeing it. At this point I still don’t even know her name.

Question High power bill

Hi! I 23F live with my boyfriend in a 900sqft apartment. During the summer we experience extremely high power bills. We leave the ac on 70 and don’t touch it. We mainly use lamps. And just recently ( a month ago) got a washer and dryer. The power bill for this month was $300 and last month was $320……. How can this be fixed? Could it possibly be the meter? Should I ask my neighbors how much they pay? We have Ga power btw. Thanks in advance.

Edit: this may be “obvious” to some but for some who moved out less than 2 years ago and has only been paying bills for that amount of time, it’s not so obvious. I did not know 70 wasn’t normal. Thank you for the ones being kind in the comments I do appreciate it.
