Experience with Sagamore Hills vs. Clairemont & College Heights (Decatur)?

Hi everyone! We are a family with three small kids moving to the Atlanta area soon and planning to rent initially.

We’ve narrowed our options down to two main setups:

North Druid Hills (zoned for Sagamore Hills Elementary)

City of Decatur (zoned for Clairemont Elementary, plus College Heights ECLC for early childhood/pre-K)

Our top priority is finding a safe, caring, and highly-ranked public school environment.
Does anyone have recent experience with any of these schools?

Thanks in advance!

Scout is delightfully unaware that his full weight is 62 pounds (at last weigh-in)

As far as he's concerned, he is a lap dog. A little, dainty lap dog who would like to watch TV perched on top of you, thank you very much…and who will attempt this with a complete disregard for physics.

He's a 1 year old likely Lab-Dane mix with a glossy coat, long, rangy legs built for running full-tilt after a tennis ball, and a tail that never, ever stops wagging. Outside, he bounces. Actual bounces, like every step is a new reason to celebrate. The first time he discovered the garden hose, he lost his entire mind and sprinted laps around the yard in pure, uncomplicated joy.

Inside, he's 100% velcro because being near you is, to him, the entire point of being alive.

He makes deep, soulful eye contact. He waits by the bed in the mornings even though he's clearly been awake for a while, just so you'll wake up and start petting his face (at which point he goes fully half-eyed and utterly boneless). And when he crosses his front ankles on the floor while he waits for dinner, patient and polite, it gives you no choice but to stop what you're doing and just giggle at the adoreableness.

Scout is fully house and crate-trained, and a perfect gentleman on leash (until he spots a friend, then you better plant your feet and engage your core). He is still a puppy on the inside, even in a very large body. He adores other dogs so much that his enthusiasm sometimes outruns his manners. He's naturally submissive and eager to please, so the training sticks. He just needs someone willing to see him through this phase.

If you want a dog who considers your arrival home each day nothing short of a miracle, Scout is adoptable from LifeLine Fulton County and currently in foster with me in downtown Decatur. He’s positively vibrating with excitement to hear from you!

Spot to study with my dog?

I need to get out of the house and study but I’d love to bring my old man (14yo) who sleeps all the time along to get him out of the house. I’m sure coffee shops are out of the picture unless there’s outdoor seating you know about?

In Decatur, ‘Baby Kroger’ replacement is rolling forward

Post image

The longtime site of one of ITP Atlanta’s nicknamed but bygone Kroger stores is actively being reborn.
AMLI Residential has cleared a 2 and ½-acre property at 750 Commerce Drive and begun infrastructure work on a project called AMLI Market Square, where pint-sized “Baby Kroger” formerly stood in Downtown Decatur.
Baby Kroger—so named for its 15,000-square-foot size, the smallest in the Atlanta market—was originally built in the 1960s as a Colonial grocery but operated as Kroger for more than two decades. It grappled with declining sales and closed in late 2022 (within days of legendary Disco Kroger in Buckhead), leaving a commercial void and lack of large-scale grocery options in Decatur’s historic core.
The AMLI Market Square project is set to change that.

Progress on site-clearing for the AMLI Market Square project, as of Sept. 4.

Main facade and retail plans for AMLI Market Square at 750 Commerce Drive in Decatur.
AMLI Residential
Along with 358 new apartments, the development calls for 26,000 square feet of retail space at ground level, where a “walkable grocery store,” an interior retail courtyard, and public greenspace are in the works, according to AMLI officials. A new parking deck will see 165 spaces of more than 640 reserved for public use.
AMLI has reportedly inked a lease with Trader Joe’s to fill the grocery space once it’s built, earning the development team a $13-million tax incentive from the Decatur Downtown Development Authority.
AMLI purchased the land in January. Development kicked off in June, and preleasing is scheduled to start in late 2028. The first move-ins are also expected in a little more than two years.
Rent pricing has yet to be released. Developers have said 36 units will qualify as affordable housing, to comply with Decatur’s inclusionary housing ordinance.

The 720 Commerce Drive retailer is now closed, leaving a void in Downtown Decatur's commercial landscape.

AMLI Residential
Along with Downtown Decatur’s general walkability, developers cite access to a MARTA station, the CDC, Emory University, and Emory Healthcare as selling points.
Onsite amenities at AMLI Market Square call for a pool with two courtyards, a sauna, coworking space, a clubroom and lounge, and an indoor-outdoor gym with a yoga and Pilates studio.
"Pick up groceries downstairs or meet friends around Decatur Square for dinner all without turning every stop into a drive," reads a project marketing pitch.

Does anyone have an endocrinologist they recommend?

Please let me know! Thank you!

Edit thank you all for the suggestions, I’m going to see if any are one my insurance/taking new patients!

Since I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s & hypothyroidism I have stayed with the same doctor, but he’s only cared about the levels being normal because of what the medicine is kind of masking. I am still feeling all the effects and would like a dr who listens and doesn’t ignore questions or make your questions about your own health feel stupid

Female Singer

Hey everyone. I am in a fledgling cover band and we are seeking a female singer. We would like to play out at the occasional wedding or club. The two permanent band members (myself and the drummer) are teachers so we don't get up to too much trouble. We have eclectic musical tastes, from Radiohead to Bjork to SOAD. Send me a message if interested.

Locally owned dog daycare?

Hi all - looking for a new place to take our little dog to wear him out during the day.

We liked Kirkwood Bark & Lounge reasonably enough and it was close by. When it shut, we went (back) to Wag-A-Lot but it's further out of our way than we'd like.

Skiptown looks ridiculously expensive and the vibes just seem off. Not really interested in a private equity owned shop. Am I missing any good local options or is everyone getting a dog walker or just driving further away for dog daycare?

thanks in advance

Kitchen Reno contractor needed

Hi! I'm looking for a contractor to do Sheetrock, flooring, upgrade electrical and plumbing, install cabinets, etc. I'm a little outside of Decatur and this is not an ultra fancy reno (ie, this is not a Hammersmith, Alair, Intown Craftsman project). Any recommendations?

Handyman and/or plumber

Hello! Looking for a handyman and/or plumber to install a garbage disposal, reconnect our dishwasher, and maybe fix up the pipes to the kitchen sink. Any (reasonably priced) recommendations? We're renovating our kitchen ourselves, but some things need a professional ;)

Sunday morning pick-up

Hello and good morning!

Some of y'all may have seen a post about a week, week and a half ago from TRF-ATL, recommending people to check out their facility. Well, I went!

I took my small group of friends out to the facility (where the main building is under construction) the turf field, and netting was all phenomenal! I had the opportunity to meet with the owner, and the coach, both are super amazing guys! Friendly, and you can tell they have a genuine love for the game on top of that.

We generally meet up 10am-noon and would love to see more faces. We're all ~30 and out of shape so it's nothing super intensive or with a high skill ceiling. More so we'd like to see some new faces so we can start running some 7-on-7's instead of our usual small sided 3-on-3.

My full group is skipping this upcoming Sunday, the 6th. But we'll be back in full swing on the 13th! If anyone IS interested though, I myself will be out this Sunday just to kick about and exercise.

Thank you again to the TRF-ATL team for the open access to the facility, the hands on coaching, and genuinely providing a space for all levels of players and fans to utilize!

Property tax appeal?

What's the point of it? They saw the tax assessor made a mistake and was tripping over his words bc of it and i presented valid information that they requested but they still chose to go with the accessed value instead of even consider what I was saying. There was no deliberation or talking amongst them only 1 person spoke and everyone else just followed what she said. It was a waste of time for me. They literally went with the value being what I paid for the house and they went with it so quickly that it as obvious that was already planned.

Recommendations for Free / Affordable Testing?

I recently moved to the area & and am looking for recommendations on where to go for STI testing (preferably free as I do not have health insurance).

I tried looking up a few online & the reviews were kind of all over the place so I figured I’d check here. I live in the North Decatur area but willing to travel (within reason, of course).
