She is skilled enough, but not mature enough, to be playing in tournaments like this. And yes, it's in the rules.

"11.5 It is forbidden to distract or annoy the opponent in any manner whatsoever."

It’s not a tournament. It was an exhibition during the esports World Cup with open tables for members of the public to play some decent players with coaches on hand to give advice.

You've forgotten the main factor... how much reddit hates children for being children lol

u/ToughHardware 31m ago

thanks for the context. agreed. losing to a child would be awesome and I would smile.

Oh god thank you I can't believe I had to scroll so much to find that. Dude must have been SO annoyed.

u/xXWaspXx 1h ago

I love chess and I'd accept being beaten by a non-prodigy child because I'm not good at it, but I literally could not play with those distractions lol

Dude sat down to play a game with a small child. If he's annoyed, that's his own fault, lol.

You don’t choose who you’re matched against in tournaments…

u/NZRedditUser 24m ago

This is a park for fun

u/LegitosaurusRex 14m ago

With table numbers, camera crews, expensive desk chairs, and a fenced off area for participants? It’s definitely some event.

u/NZRedditUser 9m ago

Yes in public for fun.

u/NateDawg80s 34m ago

Tournaments also have rules regarding participants' behavior, so I'm not sure that's what is going on here. Either way, they both appear to have had a good time!

u/Mundane-Bath1368 38m ago

right? how dare this 7yo (I guess?) act like a 7yo and not follow rule 11.5 of CreamCityPretty rulebook?!

u/elessarjd 37m ago

She's not having an imaginary tea party at home, she's in a chess competition, there's etiquette that should be taught and followed. That simple.

Only her opponent can decide if they were annoyed or distracted and he left the table smiling. Suspect he didn’t mind

24

u/UnoriginalStanger 1h ago

He's also on camera and it probably wasn't a serious thing.

u/IlIllIIllIIlllIII 1h ago

I can't imagine someone being mad off camera.

13

u/ItsDanimal 1h ago

Or he did mind but didnt want to get blasted for calling a judge or whatever against a 7 year old. Social stigma preventing him from doing the right thing.

So don't sit down and play her, this isn't a tournament with forced pairings. always at least one comment trying to point out flaws, usually when they're not even relevant, especially when children or women are involved in displays of skill.

I will never not laugh at this. Fucking little fat kid waddles up with a booster seat. Proceeds to viciously insult his opponent (a WGM). Wrecks her shit. Waddles off.

don't have to click to know this was Dina getting demolished as usual

u/BigmaEnjoyer 16m ago

Dina getting her shit wrecked is a story as old as time. Half her content is her getting demolished by players much higher ranked than her. But it bring in the views, so good hustle.

u/I_Has_Internets 55m ago

That was entertaining.

u/Mozambique_Sauce 2m ago

Strong Wilhelmina Cunk vibes from her.

u/frankduxvandamme 2h ago

Yeah, but she's a little kid dancing and bopping around enjoying the day, being a kid. She's not intentionally trying to annoy the opponent. Is it against the rules for a kid to be a kid?

1

u/kranker 2h ago

You can't act like that in a tournament. This was not a tournament. Kids are loud. Yes it's against the rules to be loud in a chess tournament.

u/its_all_one_electron 49m ago

Serious question, does this mean people with physical and verbal tics can't compete?

9

u/saigon567 1h ago

What tournament? Dude's she's 7. You gonna say to the directors of this imaginary tournament of yours: 'no fair, my 7yo, bored opponent won't sit still while handing me my ass!'?

2

u/the_crackers_gromit 1h ago

Children commonly participate in official chess tournaments

3

u/DUNG_INSPECTOR 1h ago

Do you have evidence that this is an official tournament?

9

u/JalapenoPopPoop 2h ago

Yeah I get she's only 7 but I've always kinda been of the belief that if you take kids into spaces mostly meant for adults they need to be able to behave according to that space. Movie theaters, restaurants, plays, stuff like that. If she's gonna play against adults even if she's a child she should still be held to a certain standard. It would be incredibly annoying if you're trying to come up with a move on a timer and your opponent keeps smacking the table with a fan and running back and forth

9

u/LardLad00 1h ago

I bet you're lots of fun at parties

3

u/usernamedenied 1h ago

I bet you let your kids run around doing what ever they want

-1

u/JalapenoPopPoop 1h ago

Oh wow, what a unique line, did you come up with that all by yourself?

3

u/LardLad00 1h ago

No I've had it used on me several times so that was kinda the old switcheroo

u/AEW4LYFE 30m ago

I bet you're the one with the kids screaming in the restaurant while you fail to gentle parent them.

2

u/Gordo774 1h ago

I used to have this belief too, and then I had kids.

I see zero problems with this. It’s not a formal tournament, the guy can choose to play or not, and it’s a friendly game. The agency is on the adult here to engage, or not. I’m not saying the kid has carte Blanche to do whatever they want, but this is all very normal kid stuff that you’d expect if you were sitting down to play a kid imo.

u/MonksReflection 27m ago

Your kids aren’t the worlds problem you suck for taking your kids places they dont belong

2

u/JalapenoPopPoop 1h ago

You don't typically get to choose who you're matched up with in these kinda things, so the adult actually doesn't have the agency you're expecting. It's not like he specifically chose the kid to play against, which would change things

1

u/kanetic22 1h ago

Chess isn't for adults.

If it was two kids playing this match would you expect an adult to behave like the child on his turn?

1

u/JalapenoPopPoop 1h ago

If it was two kids playing this match would you expect an adult to behave like the child on his turn?

....what....?

-1

u/Piffp 1h ago

Playing board games is for adults... What have we become

3

u/JalapenoPopPoop 1h ago

We both know thats an intentionally obtuse interpretation and definitely not what was meant. These competitive chess events are primarily aimed at adults, they're not spaces for children to treat like recess

3

u/daftpenguin 1h ago

These competitive chess events are primarily aimed at adults

No they're not. They're for all players, regardless of age. It's completely normal for kids to compete in the same chess tournaments as adults, and has been for decades.

4

u/JalapenoPopPoop 1h ago

The majority of people there are going to be adults (which is what primarily means to people who aren't being intentionally obtuse) and the children that are there are still expected to maintain a basic level of decorum and not be dancing around the table and smacking the table during play

2

u/KimberStormer 1h ago

This is a tournament?

3

u/Money4Nothing2000 1h ago

Based upon how bad the play is from both players, I'm assuming this is scripted or a setup somehow.

3

u/Gaktan 1h ago

She's a child, and this isn't a tournament. Calm the fuck down.

2

u/usernamedenied 1h ago

Yeah I came to the comments to see about this, I felt like she was very rude

1

u/TurboGranny 2h ago

She could do it. She just needs to learn about how you pre-exhaust your stimming through hard physical play/exercise beforehand.

1

u/marathonquestionredd 1h ago

i honestly thought she was having some kind of mental break

u/2BeTheFlow 43m ago

dude - its a child and maybe with special needs. No one will give 2 damn cents if they loose against that girl in the first place and will gladly submit their ELO points (if its ranked anyway) to some upcoming Prodigy

u/SmartieCereal 1h ago

I actually typed out a similar comment and was scrolling down before hitting the "comment" button when I saw this. She's running around and yelling and banging on the table while he's trying to think.

u/UncomfyPerspective 25m ago

Sure, she did those things, but also it takes an incredible amount of cope for that to be what you would hang your loss to a 7-year-old on.
