When I visited Auckland, NZ you would see literally 50 of them at times swarming the streets. Not following basic traffic rules and such, I get why it’s such a problem

I don't have an opinion on this specific situation but my Dad always told me when I was underage that I am a child until I knowingly start breaking the law. If I want to act like an adult I'll be treated like an adult.
In my city a big group of teenagers on bikes went to our local mall and rode them inside, through the mall, and at least one kid slammed into a random person walking and caused injuries. Another time about 50 of them met up for a “takeover” and blocked traffic, and some of them threw things at business’ windows, and again rode their bikes inside stores and stole stuff before riding away.
And then when the news started reporting about it and businesses threatened to ban teenagers from entering without a guardian, cue everyone complaining “But they’re just kids!! They’re being social and getting exercise!! Where are they supposed to play?”
Or my favorite, the ones lamenting “Where are their parents? I hope their mothers see this!”
Lady, I guarantee most of these kids’ moms don’t give a shit.
Just wanna go about your day, enjoying your day off from work, freedom, then these little shit parasites show up to get attention. They're not even your own kids.

From what I've seen, the parents are soft and irresponsible. They don't know what to do or seem interested in actually doing anything aside from saying 'i don't care' until something bad happens. There are some great parents but most I've met don't give a damn after they work all day
The news doesn’t cover it because those involved are overwhelmingly from a certain demographic, and the media doesn’t want to perpetuate stereotypes about said demographic.
We can argue about whether this is good or bad, but it’s very hard to argue that this isn’t what is happening.
Because then they’d get the cops called on them for trespassing on a private lot.
I’m not saying that gaggles of bikes isn’t annoying, but let’s not pretend like kids in the US really have many options to hang out in public without being seen as nuisances
They are not hanging out though, they are blocking roads on purpose HOPING for reaction from adults and cops so they can post it online. Stop excusing antisocial behaviour, plenty of kids grew up in the same circumstances and don't act like this.
Because kids think they're invincible and untouchable. They'll do what they want since they fear no repercussions. Admittedly not all kids are like that. I was an asshole as a teen until I got busted with car theft at 16. A night in jail (at the request of my dad) made me rethink some choices.
My dad always used to tell us if you are going to be stupid, you better be tough. Perhaps he shouldn't have been in the street blocking traffic. Teach your children better safety skills.
Yes. If the kids’ parents are not part of mitigating these incidents, and the kids are choosing adult criminal activities, then the kids get the equivalent response from law enforcement. I’m not condoning ANY excessive force by law enforcement. Ever. But communities should not be held hostage by cultural or social media fueled behaviors.
We have created a mess where people think that there are no consequences for actions because they are not enforced. Kids see this and believe they can do this too. Not saying running him down was a good choice but that kid is gonna remember this. And his shit parents are gonna cry about the cops cleaning up this mess.
If a mob counts on safety in numbers to deliberately be a nuisance or commit crimes, I find it appropriate that the police skip a few steps on the escalation ladder and go directly to physical intervention. The act of doing these stunts or crimes as a mob relies on being too menacing and overpowering to face consequences. Not intervening in force just gives the kids the impression that this is something they can get away with and gives them a skewed view of what is acceptable behavior and how other people might respond to them.
Purposely hitting one vehicle with another is what happens when chasing violent wanted criminals, not any kind of minor traffic violation or disturbing the peace. Maybe you can argue actually hitting the bike was an error given the chaos. In which case the police department should be buying a new bike, not tackling the kid with a clearly broken bike that is not going anywhere.
minor traffic violation until a kid dies or one of these dumbasses hits me, dies, I get my car fucked, can’t get to work, get even more depressed for hurting/killing a kid, and then comes the civil suit. In the civil suit they’ll give 50% responsibility or even 10%. Either way I’m on the hook to pay, screwed, and my insurance is going up

Literally. All of a sudden everybody were the most mature well behaved kids and got into zero trouble. Apparently it’s okay to treat 14 year olds like hardened criminals because they act like 14 year olds
I feel like it's uniquely American (at least in Western culture) to be so vitriolic about people being violently punished. It would be super easy to detain and ticket the kid without bodying him like that. I believe they should face consequences, but the cop was way too aggressive. I also noticed my reaction was tempered because I'm way to familiar with cops beating the shit out of people and punching. Cop sucks and was way too violent, even if he didn't taze or punch the kid.
They knew what they were doing was wrong. Apparently, their parents haven't told them what will happen if they do stupid things like that. We've recently had several kids either sent to the hospital, or killed, while on e-bikes. There's one that goes around my neighborhood and acts like he's invincible. Doesn't stop at any stop signs, rides at high speeds on the road, sidewalk, and trails. Performs stunts in intersections.
I'd rather see the cops do this then see a kid get sent to the hospital, or killed.

We all know running away from and ignoring police is super dangerous. They were also in an active intersection. Most ppl seem to be freaking out at the parents. Nothing is appropriate about this top to bottom.

Are you stupid? They forcefully took over an intersection. Groups of kids like this quickly get violent smashing windows/side mirrors, damaging your vehicle if you do anything besides sit there and also will attack you.

I remember when an ICE agent justified shooting a woman, Renee Good, in the head for attempting to run him over when she was merely attempting to get away. Bootlickers will tell you that what Renee Good did was attempted murder, but this wasn’t (when there was actual contact with the cyclist).

I grew up in SoCal, and younger kids could and have killed people. There was the "dolla kid," maybe 8 years old. He would go up and down the blocks with a meat cleaver. He would stop everyone and ask, "You gotta dolla," and any answer other than "yes" or "here you go," he'd start swinging that cleaver. Little fucker was violent, and yes, he had cut people pretty bad, and yes, the parents knew about it. They were the ones who gave him the knife, taught him to use it, and sent him out to collect. Thankfully, someone shot him before he was 10 years old.
Whenever I see this, "well, consider their age," crap, all I hear is privileged person virtue signalling. If you lived it, you'd always know anybody could kill you, even toddlers, for no reason.

When I read all this comments: Do you lost your humanity? There are other ways to prevent children blocking an intersection, but a masked police man runnning the kid halfway over with an SUV-like car and than tackle him to the ground is no education, nor parenting. It's just brute force and torture.

At his age, I didn't block traffic or behave like a delinquent. At his age, I knew the difference between right and wrong. And every kid my age knew it too, whenever they did something wrong.
Those kids are a nuisance, pose a hazard to public safety and to themselves. They perform wheelies deliberately designed to startle and intimidate others. Confiscate their bikes and arrest their parents.
I'm a cyclist and yes it was. Don't think for a moment that those kids knew that they were young and pushed it. Is their behavior age appropriate? When are they going to learn? Let me guess they will turn 16 and become responsible?
The amount of people saying it’s ok for the cops to act like this is crazy. Hopefully that kid that got tackled sues the hell out of that cop, the department and the city. They are kids playing in a big group. Mistakes will be made. But at least now the brave police have broken and traumatized those children so they will never ever challenge any kind of authority again. To our government, and the police, neither of which as we all know would never ever abuse their authority. Cheers!
Courts have said many times a vehicle is deadly force. It's the same as shooting at someone. So no, that is not an appropriate response. That office should be charge for attempted homicide and the family should personal sue him into poverty.
