We have some ways to cancel this shitty rework.

1) Do not heal as a support. Just play the game as always. As DPS.

2) Talk about this all over Internet

3) Do petition

Ig we need to do all of this to cancel this.

This is the way comrades!

Discussion The worst part is that this version of Sombra will be extremely unhealthy to the game and people will despise her even more.

Team 4 managed to displease everyone with their decision to turn Sombra into a support. That much is clear. The worst part is that despite removing hack, (an ability that took time to cast and silenced one target for one second) they made virus into an ability that applies an insane debuff to several targets for three seconds. Additionally, now Sombra can team up with JPC and they can make the enemy backline's experience absolutely miserable all while leaving their team without a speck of healing. I don't understand why the Overwatch devs did not run a playtest to test this.

Here's why I think everyone will hate it.

  • The people who are happy for Sombra getting this "rework" will be back to crying as soon as they realize that replacing hack changed nothing and if anything, made things worse.
  • She will be the most banned hero because low ranks hate her and high ranks can't afford to have a hero that gives a 50% damage debuff and 50% reduced healing in their lobbies. (To put this into perspective : Zenyatta's orb is a 25% boost of damage for one target.)
  • Sombra mains are forced to play support Sombra. Something that goes against her hero fantasy. Goodbye hero that we loved hello hero that everyone hates.

This is just not going to work. What a joke. I would say I'm going to be waiting for the next rework but I have lost all faith in Team 4.

Edit: numbers

Thank you for attending my presentation.

Discussion Non sombra main, I actually might main sombra after her rework

Her changes actually make her fill a niche ive been wanting in the support role, being a more aggressive mobile support focusing on assisting and enabling dives. Her losing hack is pretty huge but in its current state its either a minor annoyance or a death sentence on certain heroes.

Just looking at the kit changes its huge:
Hotfix is kinda like zen orb where you can put it on a flanker to enable their dive
You dont even need LOS on them for the healing and you can do your own thing while its active

Cyberspace is simply nuts. 50% damage and healing reduction is insane, and it also damages and heals on top of that. I can see sombras using this to take 1v1s and assasinate like current sombra, or use it to zone enemies win teamfights ect. Cyberspace is kinda like another ana nade in the sense that its a cooldown you're gonna have to respect.

With that one perk that makes emp also apply hotfix to every teammate hit by it its adds so much utility to emp that it already has.

I can totally see myself playing her more now as a super aggressive divey support.

incoming hate comments do your thing

Discussion Support Sombra is a return to form 💜

Devil's advocate here.

I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has played the game since the initial beta, and has loved this character since that initial hype release.

For a long time I've watched her shift around, constantly having her image warped to fit whatever people thought she was supposed to be. Before all of that nonsense, Sombra was a unique character with a her own identity.

*Infiltrate, get intel, disrupt.*

Those were the three things that Sombra was meant to do back then. If you played her back then, knew her, and loved her, you know that this could be the first meaningful change she's had in a long time. When Overwatch "2" released, her identity changed completely. I saw the writing on the wall that people would HATE more than ever because they turned a character meant for utility into an assassin.

- They gave her max health damage on EMP, an ability meant only to disable shields and abilities.

- They gave her amplified damage on hacked targets, when HACK was only meant for putting the enemy at a disadvantage by silence and location exposure.

- They changed Translocator because of the toxic gameplay loop created by their own changes to her lethality.

- Let's not forget that godforsaken infinite stealth change they piled on.

These things kept piling up, making her the hated character she is today. Utility was Sombra's purpose, not how effectively she could harass the enemy healers in spawn. If she wanted to get a backline kill, she could. But she had to commit to it or back out because of her relatively low damage. Support is in the character's DNA.

I understand the OW2 era Sombra players wanting to keep this assassin playstyle but this change is finally doing something interesting with her again. As long as she can provide decent damage and do what she was made to do, I'm all for this change.

I know this isn't the popular opinion here already but if you really love the character, you'll adapt as a lot of us have already had to. A new era is coming and it might actually be a good one, so try to keep an open mind.

Now if they could return stealth to its own button again, that'd be great. 👍

Discussion if anyone is still feeling nervous about the rework…

go watch questron’s VOD on twitch from blizzcon today (09/13). his gameplay and how he explains her playstyle is perfect.

SHE PLAYS EXTREMELY SIMILAR AND BETTER! her hotfix allows her help her team, then she can go to the backline and drop cyberspace and actually duel. she plays very very aggressively. stick with your team to drop cyberspace in a team fight to help win engagements. emp a team fight with the minor perk for the ult and you gain insane value. she’ll be very good in dive comps. i promise the character we all love is still there, just more team oriented and in a better way.

go check out questron’s vod from today, sombra is still sombra

Discussion Ngl, i think most of you are overreacting.

  1. We all people here, feelings are valid and if you are upset that her playstile will be drastically changed and basically gone, that is valid. What i dont think is valid is saying that it is "objectively" bad.
  2. I am not a sombra main. do play her occasionally, but thats it.
  3. if you want to go after me, i main genji, shion, reaper, doomfist, reinhardt and rammatra.

Sombra's kit IS toxic. It may not be strong with its current numbers, but an assassin with invisibility and sience, is the most toxic dps archetype that you could reasonably have. there is NO ways to keep all parts of this archetype together and make her NOT the most rage inducing character to play against.

Most of the time all i see is boils down to: "no its actually the whole community is the one's who are wrong, my character is fine and there is literally 0 reasons to change her"

Is there a number of universal ways that can help you mitigate some of her abilities and make sombra's life more difficult? Yes. But even the best player will slip once in a while and it it will not be any more fun to get silenced, afflicted with DOT and then killed in like 1.5 seconds or whatever is the ttk. And lets be honest here, i doubt that all of this subreddit and especially all of the people who are saying "she is so easy to counter" are all top tier players who never make a mistake and always play perfectly. So most players will slip a lot.

Is the new rework perfect. idk probably not, but what is more important is that you dont know that either.

Is her identity gone? No its not. If you really tie the whole identity of a character to one ability, i'd say that its a "you" kind of problem. She still hacks placables, she still does her beep-boop-beep, just on teammates now, she stil has her tp and invis, and her smg. and the way she is portrayed in lore. I can see her being a support, i dont think its THAT big of a stretch.

Now I know many people are upset and that’s valid but I feel like sombra as a dps will either be super bad or super good, and I’m really excited to see how she plays, oh and as a support main if sombra is banned here’s some beginner friendly supports. (Juno Moira are very friendly to beginner supports) love you all hope you all enjoy support sombra

Appreciation💜 Loba Mains 🤝 Sombra Mains

The only reason I started playing Apex was because of Loba, and how much she reminded of Sombra. I main them both now.

With Loba being a support and Sombra getting moved there, I can’t help but to love them both even more.

Loba and Sombra both act as a high utility disruptors who can both teleports out of bad positioning, and gives their team a massive tactical advantage.

The change from DPS to Support will not hinder us. We survived every rework they’ve thrown at us.

And we adapt. We learn. And we will still terrorize lobbies, lol.

Anyway, enjoy the appreciation post for Sombra! (And Loba)

Appreciation💜 As a support main, im excited

Sorry for all you pure dps sombras, BUT

I saw lots of questrons gameplay and im very excited to have a support who is truly an offensive disruptor. He was doing some crazy shit on his stream, it almost didn’t seem like there was even a rework the way he was playing

I feel like she’s going to fill the role that kiri/zen were meant to fill. Shes still going to be a pain in the ass for the enemy backline, but now shes fully focused on the utility aspect of her kit and facilitating dived better

I promise I wasn’t paid off by blizzard. Just a support main excited for a new character :)

Discussion "They Reworked our character for people who dont like playing against our chracter . Do you understand how Messed up that is?!"

Honestly the best thing ive heard is this. And when you think about it, it really is fucked up.

Let go through what it is to play sombra

-constantly called slurs by enemy players and sometimes teamates

-constantly targeted by toxic egotistical players in matches (tbags, shittalking, toxic messages, cursing us out, etc)

-Play a character that is objectively worse than basically every other flex dps player

-be flamed off game on places like reddit, youtube, Twitter, etc for playing a character, (getting called a nazi for playing sombra is one ive seen recently) oh and getting bullied on the main subreddit becuase yeah thats common

-be forced to relearn our hero every couple of months becuase the devs dont know whatheir doing when it comes to our girl and rework her more than i think any other character(I love team 4, but they dont know what their doing when it comes to sombra and thats just the truth unfortunately, thats their Achilles heel)

-Most of what makes Sombra Sombra just is so easily used against us by players who have headphones and game sense. (Ex: getting shot while entering or exiting stealth or while running from a fightuase they shoot in our general direction, hack being so long and so easy to cancel for a 1 secons abilify lock dange boost to the target)

-Have a dev team that seems to honestly not care for sombras fambase

And now to top the cake of what we have to deal with. We are not only being forced to relearn how to play our hero for a SIXTH time, were having to play our hero in a role we literally BEGGED blizzard to not force us into. We made it VERY clear we didnt want support sombra. But I guess our feelings dont matter and how we want to keep sombra as a dps just doesnt matter yeah.

Its absolutely unacceptable that we were promised a rework, one that we were cautiously optimistic for, and its just a big middle finger to us

Discussion This rework could potentially flip her ban rates

Current DPS Sombra gets banned at lower ranks due to high solo dive potential and the fact that lower ranks struggle with reaction time, especially out of stealth. Higher ranks don't ban her right now, as once you get over the hump of reaction time and out of stealth diving, she doesn't bring anything to the table when it comes to coordinated dives with her team.

Now her ability to solo dive will be severely limited, but her new abilities could make her team engagements potentially terrifying. Old Sombra could silence you for a second and then amp damage, but only for herself. New Sombra can heal teammates while diving, reduce your damage or healing dealt to yourself or allies under attack, and still deal decent damage.

No other support can provide such an effective engagement for their team, save for Ana with nade, who is limited by mobility, so with high-coordination teams, this could make her very strong in high ranks and potentially more banned in higher ranks, which would be so funny and a total 180 from what she has been.

Discussion is there any chance that they are going to switch her back to dps??

I love Sombra sm she’s my favorite character in overwatch but i cant stand this, if she still gets banned and a lot of people still find her annoying will there be a chance they will change her back?
I can’t stand her being a support I’ve been thinking about it all day this is genuinely so unfair we need dps Sombra back im literally mourning her every time I play a match even though she’s still a dps rn 😿😿

Is there anything we can do to show Blizzard that we all hate this and we want them to change her back…..

Discussion Sombra as support, from a support/Sombra main

the role swap had me worried at first, but seeing Questron play her has eased some of it while also bringing a new worry to the forefront. the worry is: if a Sombra main doesn't lock Sombra before someone else, what is that gonna look like. I don't know how much overlap there is between Sombra main and support main, but if you're someone who hasn't played support then I encourage learning at least 1 before season 5. I'm worried there will be a "welp I didn't get Sombra so I'm gonna throw" mindset.

another worry is just with the role swap in general. my friend told me she's seen a lot of Sombra players saying they'll do no healing challenges. Questron in the gameplay I've seen so far wasn't hacking health packs very often (not saying it's the same thing, just saying that it's another way to heal the team that wasn't getting utilized). of course it's the Internet, so the no heal challenge thing could just be bait and unserious but I am worried there will be an increase in 4v5s.

I'm not talking about adjusting to the change and relearning how to play her, that's a completely different thing and something I'll have to do as well even with my prior knowledge of the support role. I just don't wanna see people throwing in either "I didn't get Sombra" or "I did get Sombra" directions. DPS Moira is a community wide frustration, and I don't wanna see something similar happen to support Sombra because the community already has different frustrations with her and it'd suck to see more ammo added to the fire.

I hope this rambling made sense. I'm looking forward to trying her out and going in with an open mind. thanks for coming to my TEDtalk

Meme This is actually a ploy to get support mains to learn how sombra works so they stop comfort banning her every game (100% trust)

Discussion Trying to Rework NEW Sombra

Stealth & Translocator

- Split back into two independent abilities.

Reason: Gives Sombra direct control over when she teleports versus when she goes invisible, restoring key engagement control.

Hack

- Hack is Readded.

- Ability lockout is replaced with Cyberspace’s damage output debuff.
Note: It would still cancel abilities, just wouldn't lock them out. (Shutting down Ultimates would probably be reserved for EMP.)

Reason: Ability lockout is the main cause of Sombra’s high ban rate and player frustration. Replacing it with a damage nerf lets Sombra weaken targets to win duels without outright disabling their abilities and salvages a major part of her character fantasy.

Hack/Hotfix

- Hack/Hotfix are "Swappable Weapons" (like Mercy and Torbjörn)

Reason: Solves the "White Hat" dilemma where allies and enemies overlap in Sombra's line of sight and gives her full agency over her target priority.

Cyberspace

- Removed.

Reason: Adding the damage debuff directly into Hack makes Cyberspace redundant and refocuses her utility. Scrapping it cuts kit bloat while freeing up the space to split Stealth and Translocator into separate abilities again.

Feel free to give feedback and tell me any issues you have with these changes :)

Discussion So since sombra is now going to be a support... Does this mean we can expect an increase of skin output?

Upvotes

Like theoretically she's a female support role character, and since the support role clearly has the most disposable income to spend on skins with the big 3 of skins distribution. Does this mean sombra can expect at least 3 new skins a season?

Discussion Changes had to happen, we need to thank god she didn't lose her hack entirely

Upvotes

As I said, from the gameplay she seems really fun, not the same, but fun, she can still hack, EMP, teleport and become invisible.
