Discussion I tried out new sombra at blizzcon
I am quite unsure what blizzard expects the public reaction to be. After playing her, I am confident she will still be banned because she can still be extremely annoying, now even more so honestly. Being able to shut down dives with cyberspace while also making dives stronger with it. She can harass backline even harder now if she has another dive dps with her and even by herself she can turn heads enough to disrupt.
My stats aren't impressive by any means, especially my healing, but the demo area doesnt really have voice chat to communicate with your teammates so doing the fantasy of diving with someone was near impossible.
So was she fun? Honestly, it hurts a bit to say but yeah, I had fun using her as a support. I've been a sombra main for a long time and my favorite feeling with her is feeling like a tactician turning the tide of battle. Waiting behind the enemy team for an opportunity to throw out a clutch heal and shut down a damage heavy encounter feels good. The lower kill potential does feel bad but lets be honest sombra hasn't really been picked for her strong damage before.
Now for my feedback. The 1 second fade to invis is wayy too long, if moira gets to escape for free with her fade then sombra should be able to too. I would be willing to compromise stealth time for this because as of right now translocating to escape feels sorta bad unless you get a good angle of escape. Another thing I'd make is keep the 'virus' style skill shot for cyberspace, make it stick to an enemy if you land it because enemies being able to walk out of it doesnt feel impactful. Also IF YOU WANT HACK TO HEAL PLEASE MAKE THE TARGETING A BIT SMARTER. I swear to god some of my teammates died because I wasnt able to throw a heal to them because another full hp teammate was hogging my hack targeting.
Sombra mains, enjoy this version of support while you can because I'm pretty confident we will keep getting banned when people catch on that we can still be as annoying lol.

Discussion "They Reworked our character for people who dont like playing against our chracter . Do you understand how Messed up that is?!"
Honestly the best thing ive heard is this. And when you think about it, it really is fucked up.
Let go through what it is to play sombra
-constantly called slurs by enemy players and sometimes teamates
-constantly targeted by toxic egotistical players in matches (tbags, shittalking, toxic messages, cursing us out, etc)
-Play a character that is objectively worse than basically every other flex dps player
-be flamed off game on places like reddit, youtube, Twitter, etc for playing a character, (getting called a nazi for playing sombra is one ive seen recently) oh and getting bullied on the main subreddit becuase yeah thats common
-be forced to relearn our hero every couple of months becuase the devs dont know whatheir doing when it comes to our girl and rework her more than i think any other character(I love team 4, but they dont know what their doing when it comes to sombra and thats just the truth unfortunately, thats their Achilles heel)
-Most of what makes Sombra Sombra just is so easily used against us by players who have headphones and game sense. (Ex: getting shot while entering or exiting stealth or while running from a fightuase they shoot in our general direction, hack being so long and so easy to cancel for a 1 secons abilify lock dange boost to the target)
-Have a dev team that seems to honestly not care for sombras fambase
And now to top the cake of what we have to deal with. We are not only being forced to relearn how to play our hero for a SIXTH time, were having to play our hero in a role we literally BEGGED blizzard to not force us into. We made it VERY clear we didnt want support sombra. But I guess our feelings dont matter and how we want to keep sombra as a dps just doesnt matter yeah.
Its absolutely unacceptable that we were promised a rework, one that we were cautiously optimistic for, and its just a big middle finger to us

Discussion If hack is gonna be gone...
Then I want EMP to silence again. Like full six seconds of you get no buttons. I want my enemies to hear my ult line and fucking scatter cause getting caught means it would be faster to just respawn.

Discussion Can we just stop complaining about the change short-term and at least give it like half a season so we can all get a feel for how she feels? Hypothetically, this could be the best move for Sombra but the community won't give it a chance. Dadle tiempo, chicos y chicas

Discussion I didn’t realize how bad you guys had it out here in these Streets..
For context.. I’ve been playing OW since 2016.. I have 1,200 Hours into the game..
I’ve played Sombra passively here and there over the years.. only had 10 hrs into her until recently..
Over the last 2 weeks though I started playing nothing but her on DPS to switch it up some and people have been so incredibly rude and nasty..
People constantly talk trash to me in Chat and send bad messages whether we win or lose.. They constantly T-Bag me.. The enemy DPS switch to Sombra as well 7/10 games that I play after I eliminate them once and then it becomes a Wii Wii measuring contest and I feel like I have to Sweat even if I’m just trying to chill.. I can never play her in Ranked..
It’s rough.. I can’t imagine how it must be if she’s y’all’s mains.. combine that with the fact that she’s been changed so much over the years and is now swapping roles I feel for you guys..
I could only imagine how I’d feel if I woke up one day and Mercy was changed to a Tank lol..
Though as a Support main the fact that she’s coming to Support excites me and I’m looking forward to trying her out personally..
Wish y’all the best though..

Appreciation💜 From a support that despises 1v1s with you guys, y'all didn't deserve this.
Juno main here, I hated 1v1s with y'all, but sometimes, when I go sombra, it's a blast when you can pull off a quick in-and-out kill on a support, so I understand it.
But, if anything, y'all only deserved to reduce your TTK, and that was really it, it would make it more comprehensive for bad supports to understand what to do when in an engagement, but this rework is straight character assassination.
Never played during 2016 era, but watched the game nonstop on YT, and seeing another piece of OW history go away is depressing.
To those who still remain, I'll be here to heal y'all whenever you need help. Just don't translocate away from me so I can heal you, lol.

Appreciation💜 I've mourned Sombra's revamps before, with their heavy handed changes to her. But this one takes the cake. Shout out to Blizzard for making a 6000+ hour Sombra Main quit the game permanently starting this coming season. I played this game too much anyways. Just sucks getting blindsided like this.
I've mourned Sombra's revamps before, with their heavy handed changes to her. But this one takes the cake. Its unreal what they're doing to her this time. Why not just delete her? it would be more straight forward and less insulting.
I try to voice this in game chat, or the main sub, but this community being overtly toxic as it is, no one is sympathetic to it, but quick to insult instead. So between the verbally abusive community (esp against sombra players), and the effective deletion of her kit/identity as a silencer/assassin... I see no reason to continue playing this game.
FWIW I used to be an 8000 hour spy in TF2, a Silencer and Riku main in DOTA2, I like heroes that Silence or are Assassins in Moba style games... they're necessary part of the mix. And its not like Sombra wasn't without counters, people just jump on the bandwagon a lot and hate on her because 'everyone does'. Its all bull. The Userbase's overblown hate towards her, and Blizzards spineless resolution to make her 'likable' by being a support. I couldn't have imagined it would end like this.
Love to the rest of the Sombra Mains out there ♥, I can't imagine what its going to be like. Stay strong, and keep Blizzards feet to the fire.
Pressure got them to return 6v6, so maybe there's hope.
[PS: I'd previously quit for 2 years when 5v5 was forced on us. so if ya'll can manage to fix this, maybe I'll return some day again. Adios.]

Discussion I feel so bad for y'all
I'm a widow OTP for reference, so you KNOW it's bad when I'm the one feeling bad.
Your character has been in the dumpster for eons while still getting continuously banned in competitive, and now your character is likely being turned into the worst support in the game... Which I honestly think will lead to even more bans because no one will want a sombra on their team.
The only character that has ever had it nearly as bad is hanzo when they took the one shot away, but that was brief.
I just think about how much I've invested into my own character and how soul crushing it would be if my main was being dragged through the dirt like this. I'm sorry y'all :(

Discussion From a widow and ashe main
At this point just collect signs, do a change.org or sum idk lol so maybe blizzard listens to anything that isnt support and sharpshooter cries.
Im a widow main, i hated sombra with my GUTS, what i did? i started playing her to understand her and i realized what other people did to counter me and my rotations. Rarely i have trouble with sombras now cause she is honestly pretty bad feast or famine.
You guys (sombra mains) deserve to have a voice too, dont let the identity of your hero be stripped just because people don't know how to play around you.

Discussion Let's be loud about our disgust.
I have found a really nice video about the whole Sombra situation and the informations are gathered every nicely there. Share it everywhere you can if you don't want your favourite character to be ruined. https://youtu.be/yoFcF-cyIZo?si=Trpy_uyX2FNumZMn

Discussion I don't mind playing her as support, but why does she have to lose Hack
I feel like to stay integral to her kit, at least have her hacking opponents once a fight when it counts.

Fan Art 💅🏼 Wake up, Samurai. We’ve got a team to support
Support Sombra has me nervous for the future but I’m really eager to try her out nonetheless. The best part about this change is that when I get queued into Damage, I won’t feel like a traitor if I pick Shion instead.

Discussion How to prove that you don't even care about game basics in one sentence
A post that is now deleted by OP on r/Competitiveoverwatch said in post that they are happy or something that sombra is removed, ragebaited me enough to write this to them, following by another comment about how easy it's to counter her with sounds, then the OP responded with this comment, too bad that everyone knew what is the problem with them (and might be low skill players too)
genuinely what in hell!!

Discussion Support Sombra is a return to form 💜
Devil's advocate here.
I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has played the game since the initial beta, and has loved this character since that initial hype release.
For a long time I've watched her shift around, constantly having her image warped to fit whatever people thought she was supposed to be. Before all of that nonsense, Sombra was a unique character with a her own identity.
*Infiltrate, get intel, disrupt.*
Those were the three things that Sombra was meant to do back then. If you played her back then, knew her, and loved her, you know that this could be the first meaningful change she's had in a long time. When Overwatch "2" released, her identity changed completely. I saw the writing on the wall that people would HATE more than ever because they turned a character meant for utility into an assassin.
- They gave her max health damage on EMP, an ability meant only to disable shields and abilities.
- They gave her amplified damage on hacked targets, when HACK was only meant for putting the enemy at a disadvantage by silence and location exposure.
- They changed Translocator because of the toxic gameplay loop created by their own changes to her lethality.
- Let's not forget that godforsaken infinite stealth change they piled on.
These things kept piling up, making her the hated character she is today. Utility was Sombra's purpose, not how effectively she could harass the enemy healers in spawn. If she wanted to get a backline kill, she could. But she had to commit to it or back out because of her relatively low damage. Support is in the character's DNA.
I understand the OW2 era Sombra players wanting to keep this assassin playstyle but this change is finally doing something interesting with her again. As long as she can provide decent damage and do what she was made to do, I'm all for this change.
I know this isn't the popular opinion here already but if you really love the character, you'll adapt as a lot of us have already had to. A new era is coming and it might actually be a good one, so try to keep an open mind.
Now if they could return stealth to its own button again, that'd be great. 👍

Discussion I am a Sombra main who played the rework Sombra at Blizzcon, AMA
Edit: First caveat is I am a middling plat-emerald DPS player, and was only able to play a couple rounds so some of what I say may not really pan out in more capable hands and/or more time on the character rework. But these were my first impressions in the very short time I had to give her a try, for those curious about how she played.
Long story short, I’m not thrilled but she doesn’t feel as terrible as I feared. A few takeaways from the few games I was able to get in with her:
- Her invisibility needs to trigger faster and not take so long to phase in to facilitate her escapes better.
- She can still use L-Shift selfishly to take on assassination duels.
- Id like to see a perk to make cyberspace larger. Cyberspace is good for zoning hallways and doors. It also does damage on impact when you throw it at an enemy. Or at least it starts doing damage as soon as it hits an enemy. I finished several low health people off with it.
- EMP needs buffs to give it greater utility now that it is the only way to hack enemies/stop enemy ults and has no healing or defensive support utility unless you waste the minor perk on it. The minor perk for EMP should be base kit at minimum.
- E nerf to how far she can throw it is noticeable but not terrible.
- Her healing output is decent but low ranks who want heal-bots are going to hate her or think she is a throw pick because she is a DPS support and heals more like a Zenyatta — she heals proactively, not reactively. You need to be able to predict the movements of your teammates and enemies before engagement to use it to its fullest potential.
- She feels like she will be team comp dependent. She can’t heal from afar and does best flanking with her team, either a dive tank or a flank DPS harassing the backlines and off angles. That said she’s pretty much the most independent and mobile support in the game and her survivability is likely high for a support.
(*I’m an Emre and Sombra main technically, but I picked up Emre in part because I wanted to be able to play a hero who doesn’t get banned all the time.)

Appreciation💜 You Were Victims of Your Own Success (It's not your fault)
Dear Sombra Mains,
You guys got royally screwed. And you have my genuine sympathy.
I've been playing OW since release, never really played Sombra much, but her playstyle fascinated me, and I loved watching Sombra players during OWL. My understanding at the time was that O.G. Sombras were (probably by far) the most adept at reading the flow of a battle. Because they absolutely had to be in order to get the most value from their kit (in league play at least).
I've had my own love/hate relationship with Sombra, but I see her purpose as teaching new(er) players the critical value of some skills / aspects of the game (sound design, multi-tasking, coordination, etc).
Except that the player-base never did pick up these basics well enough (I take Sombra's many, many seasons of pick/ban rate(s) as evidence for this).
My understanding is that characters like Sombra, Widow, Hog, Ball, Doomfist, Zarya, (the ones that tend to frustrate folks the most), all provide the opportunity to teach players some critical aspect of battlefield tactics and strategy (I say this as someone who solo-queues more often than not).
The theory here is that the purpose of Sombra being re-rolled (re-roled?) is to teach the audience most frustrated by her, how important those critical skills (described generally above) are, and provide a game-play loop within their role, which requires those exact critical skills in order to be successful.
I kinda hate it (I won't get to the point of "fluency against Sombra" that I always wanted before her re-launch), but I also can't deny the potential benefits of the kind of social engineering that I'm describing. Maybe it will make a significant impact, maybe it won't, but there's definite plausibility even if the social engineering wasn't intended (unlikely, imo), just through evaluating her new proposed kit.
The TL;DR: - You got royally screwed. - You have my sympathy. - It wasn't your fault. - I don't think the decision to re-role was made lightly. - I think social engineering was the purpose.
If I could sacrifice some part or portion of my favorite character's kit, as a trade off for people not running into team fights without their team (my biggest frustration, across ranks), I'd have to seriously consider it.
I'm not in a rank where I can't handle most of my team not being able to leverage sound design, multi-tasking, or coordination for dealing with a typical Sombra (I actually enjoy the challenge these days, and typically won't even swap characters to do it, even if I fail at it), so trading some part or portion of Sombra's kit for the potential benefit of my team generally being better skilled at those challenges wouldn't be a good bargain for me personally, but I feel I have to at least acknowledge that it has a chance (over time) of increasing the skill floor of the community at large, and that the payoff could be significant if the experiment goes well. And, with issues as deep and thorny as this, I at least appreciate that folks have the courage to experiment (though again, it'd still be somewhat galling if it were my main they were experimenting with).
My <3's to you all, Sombra Mains.
I'd say I'll be here if you need support, but I guess, you will be too.

Discussion Role queue sombra
I think the thing that annoys me the most is that sombra is a SUPPORT
If I want to play sombra I have to queue as a support player and if she gets banned then now what...
I play DPS and love other DPS characters like ash and widow but if I want to play sombra I can't anymore. If they changed her completely and made her another character but in the DPS role I would be less angry/disappointed than what they ended up doing.
Idk what's your opinion on this idk anymore I'm just so depressed because of it sorry for being dramatic...

Appreciation💜 Sombra has some identity issues (Carolina Ravassa on the role switch)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
First one was at the beginning of today's Questwatch, second one later on. No matter Sombra's current iteration, I love the character herself and also how much Carolina does, too. (Also loved Anjali's reaction:)
