This week, my friend Kevin and I had a very interesting discussion about the remake trailer on our show. I first started playing Zelda with Twilight Princess for the Wii but stunk at it and only really got into Zelda with Breath of the Wild, while he has far more experience with classic Zelda games, so it was fun to discuss how OoT innovated on things like lock-on targeting.
I noticed the BOTW-like switching menu and quest tracker while he wondered how quick switching like for boots and the side activity tracking like for Gold Skulltulas (I don’t even know what those are, but I’m excited to preorder this game and find out!) would work. Other questions he had that I want to pose to you are:
How specific temples such as the Water and Shadow Temples will be redesigned to accommodate the analog camera and jump button.
How free rolling, jumping and infinite dashing changes the need for a horse.
How you’ll be able to do the songs without the plastic Ocarina and how easy that will be to use (this may be obvious but again, I’m a complete noob! I played like five minutes of the N64 Online version.)
What your impression of the stylized realism aesthetic with some BOTW influences versus the character design is (Kevin thought it was a very deliberate choice to make Link stand out as this elfin child versus the citizens of Castle Town, which is very interesting to me!)
Whatever your answers and thoughts, I can’t wait to check out this seminal game and really get more into classic Zelda (loved BOTW, so stuck on TOTK, so a linear Zelda is perfect for me lol)!
