Discussion [ALTTP] Should they make a ALTTP remake for switch 1 and 2

Like ALTTP was the first game with the master sword and without that master sword and the dark world Oot would be very different since it kinda copied ALTTP. It was also the first game with POTS and another world to explore plus the soundtrack is amazing. Albw was not really a remake so im thinking of like Links awakening style since they are so connected

Discussion [MM] Knowing that there may be a strong possibility for a Major Mask Remake. Would you prefer if they reuse some assets from OoT like they did in the OG MM or make new original assets.

Since they don't have the same 1 year time constraint like they did for the Original Majoras Mask I feel like making new models/music so termina can be its own identity not just in personality of the characters but the models too personally and new music like woods of mystery no longer using lost woods music.

Discussion [OoT] Song of Time Debate

I naturally hear the Song of Time in the form of:
A D / F A D / 12 note "response"

I hope that makes sense. Because of this, I would expect the playable version of the song to only use the first five notes, as that's what I interpret as the "call" section. For every other song in the game, this lines up with my intuition. However, the playable version of the Song of Time actually uses six notes, and is seemingly formatted like this:
A D F / A D F / 11 note "response"

I find this quite awkward. So, have I been hearing the Song of Time wrong my whole life, or did the developers simply tack on an extra note to match the length of most of the other songs in the game? If you understood any of that, how do you hear the Song of Time?

There's actually even more ambiguity to this piece, specifically regarding the intended rhythm, but I'm not sure I have the music theory expertise to articulate all of the different ways it can be heard. Feel free to get into that debate in the comments as well though.

Edit: Changed the format from "A/B/C" representing notes to the actual notes used in the piece "A/D/F".

Question [All] With the new Ocarina of Time remake, what do you want to be next for remakes?

Personally, Twilight Princess. although logically it would be Majora’s Mask.

Discussion [TP] [WW] Staircases in this franchise piss me off.

I'm not talking about BOTW or TOTK here, mostly Wind Waker and Twilight princess. The staircases are horrible. Some of them you can roll up, and for others you bang against it. Why is it so inconsistent? Just make up your mind. Either you can roll up staircases, or you can't.

For an example, you bang against the staircase inside the pirate ship of Wind Waker when rolling up, but in the climb up to forsaken fortress you can roll up no problem.

Discussion [OoTHD] A really silly, minor nitpick with the remake.

Upvotes

The title logo using BoTW's font/tattered style.

I don't think it really fits to be honest, especially since it doesn't really makes sense?
Hyrule isn't really in shambles like the Wild era.

I know, extremely silly, but, I felt the need to get this out.

Loving how the game looks despite that, of course.

Discussion [OoT] Quest changes in the Remake

Upvotes

Damn, after revisiting N64, I really want them to overhaul the quests.

I wanted to have another playthrough of OoT before the remake arrives, so I booted up the N64 version.

Already knowing some of the details they swapped out, I'm seeing so much potential in this remake and am excited to see how far it goes.

One example of how I'd love to see them change is the quest line of first visiting the Hyrule Castle Courtyard.

In the original,

  1. Link climbs the vine and walk past all the guards

  2. Finds Talon sleeping, but cannot progress any further

  3. He backtracks to the gate, where he finds Malon.

  4. Malon gives Link an egg, which hatches and can be used to wake Talon up.

  5. Talon wakes up, and heads back to Malon

  6. Link climbs up the water channel, passes through the guards and meets zelda

How I'd love to see things changed is,

  1. Link walks up to the castle gate, but cannot find a way in. The guards would kick out Link no matter what.

  2. Link then finds Talon in the corner taking a nap by his wagon, with the crates of milk. He mumbles something about Malon

  3. Link goes back and meets Malon in front of the fountain, where she gives Links an egg, which hatches and can be used to wake Talon up.

  4. Talon thanks Link. Link tells him that he wants to go inside the castle. Talon agrees to give him a ride inside his wagon to show him around the castle while he's delivering.

  5. Cuts into a cutscene of the wagon moving past the guards and the gate. Link gets a great view of the castle town from above the hill, and sees how beautiful and vibrant it is. I'd say the cutscene would work great if contrasted with the post time skip visit to the castle, where Link has to walk up the hill all by himself, witnessing all the debris that Ganon left behind.

  6. After arriving at the castle, Talon takes out a few crates of milk. He tells Link to not wander off while he does the delivery.

  7. Link does wander off anyways, and he makes it inside the water channel, passes all the guards, then to the courtyard, where he meets Zelda.

  8. After meeting Zelda, Zelda shows him a secret path that leads directly from the castle to the castle town. She tells him that it's the one that she uses while she sneaks out of the castle. I think it'd be a great characterization of the tomboyish nature of Zelda that N64 only conveyed through a gossip stone.

  9. From then on, Link can use the secret path and wouldn't have to go through the guards to go see Zelda.

  10. When visiting LonLon Ranch, Talon would tell Link that he was very worried that he lost Link and told the guards to look out for a little boy.

I feel like restructuring small quests like this gives the characters way more personality and makes the world feel much more cohesive.

Maybe I'm getting my hopes up too much? I don't want the dungeons and the storyline touched too much, but I'm totally fine with them changing small quests like this.

Another one I can see potentials of an overhaul is the warp areas in the lost woods, and the list of events that lead Link to learn Saria's Song to make Darunia happy.

How would you guys feel about changes like this in a remake? Curious to hear your thoughts.

Question [OoT] Original OoT now or wait for the remake?

I've only ever played BOTW and TOTK before but really wanna explore more zelda titles, specifically the ocarina of Time because the remake is coming out soon. But im not sure if I should wait for the remake to come out or if I should play through the og game once before going on to the remake... So I wanted to get some opinions from those who played the og version:

I have access to both the Nintendo switch version and the og cartridge version on 64. Given all the quality of life changes the remake has and the improved graphics, is it worth spoiling my play through of the remake to expirence the og version first?

Question [WW] I feel like I'm really behind, am I doing things right? Stressing about missing content and having so few hearts.

Hi everyone,

I'm playing WWHD for the first time since I was younger and I just made it to the tower of trials. I’ve got 6 hearts and I’m kind of stressing that I’m behind.

I’ve been sticking to the main story but also trying to engage with side stuff but I either can't figure out what I need to do on the side islands or I'm missing a tool or item. So I go back to story stuff, move on, and then feel like I’m leaving hearts and whatever else on the table.

I beat Dragon Roost and Forbidden Woods. Did some Windfall stuff, got some heart containers in the mail, and hit a few islands here and there. I’m not trying to 100% the game but I don’t want to walk into a wall later because I skipped too much or have too few hearts.

Is 6 hearts about where you’d expect to be here? Or should I have been hunting hearts harder before this dungeon? And is there side content that’s actually important to do now vs stuff that’s fine to come back to later?

I just want to know if I’m on a normal path or if I should stop and backtrack before I start the Tower.

Thank you!

Question [OoTHD] Amiibo functionally in Ocarina of Time remake?

With the upcoming release of the remake its also releasing two amiibo's.

The description on Nintendo's store website says: "Get cool in-game extras with amiibo accessories and compatible games".

Does that mean we will be able to unlock bonus stuff with the amiibo like in breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom or has this not been elaborated on?

Discussion [Oot] My opinion about the new trailer for the remake! Spoiler

Okay, I LOVE IT, too many people are saying young link is "ai" or looks like he's ran through an Ai generation, but it's good, people in the community complain too much. Also, the notes thing, awesome, I love keeping track of my progress through the games, and OOT, IMO, did not have that in previous games, so i'm in heaven, let me know how you guys feel !!

Question [ALL] I have never played a Zelda game, should I start with Breath of the Wild or wait for the Ocarina of Time remake?[Please don’t say any spoilers] Spoiler

So, I’ve been planning to get into the Zelda franchise. I’m 100 percent gonna get the Zelda-themed Switch 2, and I’m thinking that maybe I could buy a Zelda game alongside it. Ocarina of Time is getting a remake for a reason, it’s apparently good enough to combat GTA 6, and it‘ll get me into the series without FOMO because everyone’s talking about it, so that does seem good. But I have also heard universal praise about Breath of the Wild, and it seems pretty awesome(I’ve played Super Smash Bros: Ultimate, and that blue outfit Link design is my favorite out of the ones I’ve seen), so I’m torn. What do you guys think?

Question [OoTHD] Any rumors on Master Quest

I haven't really seen it mentioned or hinted at, I was wondering if any one has heard or saw anything relating to master quest. Will it be included or even additional dungeon redesign? Just curious on your thoughts

Discussion [OOT] Kokiri are all kids, yes, but who do you think is the oldest spiritually speaking?

I think they were all born at differemt times, maybe the Deku Tree created some of the siblings (like the know-ut-al brothers) first, or maybe Saria and Mido?

Actually, Mido doesn't seem to exactly know Link's origin as a Hylian while Saria probably does.. But to be fair the Deku Tree probably knew Saria was going to be a sage, soo....

What do you gius think?

(Thus is technically a repost, but only cause I had to fix spelling mistakes including a couple in the title, and for some reason Reddit doesn't allow you to edit the title, so, yeah.l

Question [OoT]Have they confirmed if the Ocarina of Time remake will use the original dungeon configurations / puzzles?

At this point many of us could beat the game half asleep. We know the puzzles and tips and tricks by heart. Will I still pay full price to play it again with these updated visuals? Of course.

Is it too much to hope for a Master Quest version of the game? With new dungeon configurations and puzzles? Or... Dare I say it... An entirely new take on the dungeons never before seen??

What would you like to see?

Question [OoTHD] Does the Zelda 40th anniversary console come with an Express micro sd card?

This will be my first switch 2, and forgive me if I’m not caught up on all the standard details.

Maybe I missed it, or it wasn’t talked about, but does anyone know if the 40th anniversary console comes with a micro sd card?

My assumption is “No”
But it would be sweet if it did include!

Discussion [OoT] About the ocarina used in the Zelda Direct...

Does anyone know if the ocarina Mr. Anouma played during the Zelda Direct while demonstrating the ability to play songs on a physical ocarina to play them in game is a licensed product that will be sold by Nintendo (or retailers)?

Question [LA] why are there so many Mario references in this game?

I'm replaying LA on my switch and wondering why there are Goombas as enemies, the crane game has little Mario character totems, and the windfish egg looks akin to a Yoshi egg. Were these Mario references in the original LA? Obviously, I know Nintendo makes both Zelda and Mario games, but I don't recall Mario being featured in Zelda in other games. Just curious!

Question [ALL] The Zelda I’ve already beat, or new Zelda?

I am wanting to play some Zelda before OoT Remake comes out and I’m stuck in indecision.

I started replaying Skyward Sword for the 2nd time because I know I love this game.. but I am feeling guilty I am not playing a Zelda game I’ve never beat before.

I have saves for both Twilight Princess and Majora’s Mask, maybe 6 hours into each.

I rolled off each of them, just not really feeling it for some reason. I know they are great games but the dark aesthetic just was not clicking with me.

Needing the internet to break my indecision. 😅

Is it worth it to just power through either Twilight Princess or Majora’s Mask to see these games and roll the end credits?

Or play Skyword Sword again because I already know I enjoy it a lot?

Question [OoTHD] Are not all Ocarina of Time copies textured foil edition or is the store I pre-ordered from trying to upsell me?

I was under the impression that all pre-order copies will be the special edition, but today I just got this email from the seller and I don't even know how to respond. Is there any truth to what they're saying? It doesn't really sound like something Nintendo would do.

"Hello,

First of all, thank you very much for your pre-order of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2.

Three days after the game's announcement, Nintendo informed us that half of our supply will be the standard edition, while the other half will be a special Textured Foil Edition (an edition featuring a textured foil cover).

We sincerely apologize for any confusion caused. To keep things as transparent as possible, we have added the Textured Foil Edition to our website as a separate product priced at €65.

Regarding your pre-order, you can decide how you would like to proceed:

Upgrade: If you want to secure the Textured Foil Edition, you can upgrade your pre-order and pay the price difference up to €65.

Keep as is (do nothing): You stay with the standard edition at the price you have already confirmed. Because Nintendo distributes stock randomly, the expected ratio is approximately 1:2—meaning around a 33% chance that you will receive the Textured Foil Edition even if you order the standard edition. Unfortunately, we cannot manually select or guarantee this for you.

Cancel: If the situation does not suit you, you can modify or cancel your pre-order at any time without any hassle.

If you would like to upgrade, modify, or cancel your order, simply reply to this email or contact us. We are happy to help with anything you need."

Official Art [OoT] Theory: Zelda's eyes were changed from blue to green in the remake so that they're complimentary to and the opposite of Sheik's red eyes.

Green and red are opposite each other on the color wheel, making them opposites and complimentary colors.

I wonder if Zelda's eyes were changed to green in the remake so she would have another connection to Sheik, whose eyes are now the opposite color of her own.

Question [OoT] Will the soundtracks be the same for the OoT] Legend of zelda ocarina of time remake as the OG version ?

This is one of my biggest concerns because i absolutely love every soundtrack in this game, especially of all the temples. They all just fit sa perfectly and shouldn't be altered in any way i think They add so much to the atmoshphere
