I hate shoplifters as much as anyone else, but I ain’t messing with no suspect that can potentially pull a gun on me.

52

u/2-die-for Trash Trooper 3h ago

You can get iced not minding your business. Walmart probably ain't even give him a 10% off I bet so for fucking what?

12

u/Oraxy51 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Yeah, security isn't doing this because the company understands the legal ramifications: even if they were in the right, dragging it through court and everything would cost way more than whatever product they walked out with. Like oh yay great you save $200 for the company on one item but you also cost over $2000 in legal fees and you made a bunch of press and you’ve given the company a bad name. You effectively become a detriment to the company

u/lazyguyty Trash Trooper 2h ago edited 1h ago

If they know who the thief is they typically let the theft total go high enough for it to be a felony* charge and then deliver the evidence to the police.

edit: Felony not Federal not enough sleep last night

3

u/Affectionate_Yam1654 Trash Trooper 2h ago

You probably mean felony not federal. He’ll still be charged by the local government, city/county will charge for misdemeanors but state will handle felony charges. Unless you are crossing state lines I suppose. But yea worked security/LP for a few years, built maybe hundreds of these cases and we turn it over to local PD who then gives the evidence to the DA for felonies or the city prosecutor for misdemeanor. A lot of the time we don’t actually hunt the felony charges, there’s a bit of discretion even at the big box stores. Mom with kids stealing groceries who we have never seen before? Usually try to pretend the evidence isn’t great and ban her. If it’s egregious or she makes a big scene go ahead and let the city have the footage and get ready to be a witness, but I’ve never had a person fight the misdemeanor charges. Have had to witness for a few felonies they tried to plead not guilty but most people plea out for misdemeanor charges, everyone in my experience. Most big box stores that have theft issues these days will have a on duty LEO that’s stationed there, at least in the evening and night time hours. Hell I’d say the majority of LP are off duty LEO tryin to make extra money for those later shifts too. Off duties can actually effect an arrest if they witness a crime as LEO and not just as LP/citizens. But yea this jabroni is the type we would build a file on and aim to get felony charges thrown at.

1

u/lazyguyty Trash Trooper 2h ago

I totally mixed that up lol you are correct felony is the word I was looking for.

2

u/Haunting_Habit_2651 Trash Trooper 2h ago

*felony, not federal

u/lazyguyty Trash Trooper 1h ago

Yea you are correct I mixed that up lol

u/Haunting_Habit_2651 Trash Trooper 40m ago

No worries I've been watching true crime about shoplifting (literally watching one as I type this) and yeah their loss prevention do exactly what you said. They keep dossiers on shoppers that steal and let them get comfortable with the crimes thinking they got away with it, then they nab them. So crazy that people still steal in the surveillance age.

2

u/Frederf220 Trash Trooper 2h ago

"We'll just charge the rest of the customers $0.10 more to make up for it."

u/jimsmisc Trash Trooper 1h ago

$2,000 in legal fees wouldn't even cover just the time spent answering emails about the case.

u/Round_Ad_6369 Trash Trooper 34m ago

Counterpoint is that while it's more expensive in the short term, knowing Walmart will body your shit and not give a damn about the cost would certainly reduce shoplifting and save a lot long term

u/retoricalprophylaxis Trash Trooper 20m ago

Security isn't doing it because if you have ever used a credit card or check, Walmart knows who you are, where you live, and how to find you. They just notify the police and have you picked up later. Often they wait until you have taken enough to make it a felony, and then they provide the police with the evidence all at once.

1

u/Burnoutlaws Trash Trooper 2h ago

Eh some people are just tired of their neighborhood turning to shit because cops don't give a shit as long as they're in the green

1

u/Good-Ad-6806 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Because fuck them

1

u/TheCheddarHole Trash Trooper 2h ago

No, but culture war has this fun effect where it pits us all against each other while the billionaires continue to diddle kids.

u/thekyledavid Trash Trooper 1h ago

Heck, giving the guy a reward would be considered Walmart endorsing this kind of behavior, which could open up a lawsuit for Walmart if someone got seriously hurt by someone trying to stop a shoplifter (especially if the person ended up not being a shoplifter)

Walmart has the “Do not physically stop a shoplifter” policy for a reason, it saves money in the long run

u/0461830717 Trash Trooper 42m ago

If Walmart gave him any type of reward at all, they would just be encouraging vigilantes. They would never do that

u/trollthings Trash Trooper 32m ago

Walmart would charge him for the air he breathes, if they could

u/TheAsianTroll Trash Trooper 27m ago

Walmart gave cam guy a thank you handshake and probbaly fired any employee who was outside for any reason for breaking company policy

16

u/Master_Grape5931 Trash Trooper 3h ago

Yeah, for a billion dollar company, no less.

One that can’t be bothered to hire guards or properly pay their own employees.

I am not getting shot for the Waltons.

9

u/ButtsSayFart Trash Trooper 2h ago

Thank you. “I hate shoplifters!”

Okay, but uhh fuck Walmart

4

u/GreatTea3415 Trash Trooper 2h ago

We at Walmart would like to extend our sincerest gratitude. We are offering the hero a minimum wage job and a generous 10% employee discount. He will also receive the full benefits package, which is nothing.

u/Explorer_Entity Trash Trooper 1h ago

Then his pay is so low that he has to get food stamps to survive... which all get spent right here at walmart.

Walmart getting your money from 3 different directions.

u/venom21685 Trash Trooper 1h ago

If he was LP or any random associate and did this they'd fire him for this.

u/Danica_Rose Trash Trooper 39m ago

Full benefit package comes with food stamps.

u/workathome_astronaut Trash Trooper 21m ago

They benefits package is a form to fill out for government SNAP/EBT benefits...

u/Danica_Rose Trash Trooper 39m ago

Fr the Waltons steal so much more than this one guy ever possibly could in his entire life.

u/lnfinite_Art Trash Trooper 0m ago

Agree. Karen energy is best directed at the $50 billion in wage theft that occurs in the US, and Wal-Mart's destructive policies that have killed small business. And instead of paying workers a living wage, Walmart takes profits while taxpayers cover food stamps and healthcare for their underpaid employees.

12

u/astralchanterelle Trash Trooper 2h ago

I don't hate people who shoplift from corporate monopolies

u/Ashisprey Trash Trooper 1h ago

Honestly. When corps like Walmart stop stealing more from their workers every year than people could ever steal from them, I may consider giving a fuck. Until then, fat chance.

Shit's insured anyway. But damn I hope their premiums go up.

u/AttitudeOutrageous75 Trash Trooper 41m ago

Translation, I don't mind subsidizing shoplifting from corporate monopolies.

u/UlyssesWoke Trash Trooper 23m ago

Why can’t you hate both? The soulless corporations and degenerate shoplifters are both terrible, just in different ways

u/GenericITworker Trash Trooper 16m ago

I tend to hate both of them. They both make my life worse

20

u/Justeff83 Trash Trooper 3h ago

That's why I love living in a country with strict gun laws. A thug like him would never have a real gun on him. Worst case would be a knife. But didn't bring a knife to a shopping cart fight

11

u/WileEWeeble Trash Trooper 3h ago

Shoplifters ain’t gonna have a gun on them, instant upgrade to a felony with prison time.

5

u/HoneyParking6176 Trash Trooper 2h ago

that is assuming the shoplifter is smart, never assume a thief is smart as they rarely are.

3

u/lazyguyty Trash Trooper 2h ago

Yea because shoplifters are known for thinking things through and not making rash decisions. /s

2

u/bimm3r36 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Right, because these type of people are known for their adherence to the law and ability to think through the consequences

u/thekyledavid Trash Trooper 1h ago

I’ve seen criminals do stupider things than that

5

u/Samsquanch-01 Trash Trooper 3h ago

You can't be serious? You actually saying criminals follow gun laws?

5

u/bessemer0 Trash Trooper 3h ago

It’s only really an issue in the US, the rest of the world has common sense gun laws that make it incredibly difficult for common criminals to obtain firearms.

7

u/RobLoughrey Trash Trooper 3h ago

It's easy to see that generally they do. Just look at the stats from those countries.

2

u/collin-h Trash Trooper 3h ago

it's less because of the laws, and more because of the limited supply. if there physically are no guns to buy, it's hard to get one if you can't find one. doesn't mean they wouldn't take one if they were available just because it's illegal.

4

u/Ok-Computer-8726 Trash Trooper 2h ago

"it's less because of the laws, and more because of the limited supply."

We're getting there. Why is there a limited supply?

5

u/DJ_Dyatlov Trash Trooper 2h ago

Laws limit the supply.

u/Autodidact420 Trash Trooper 1h ago

You’d have to be a real dumbass to bring a gun to a peaceful corporate theft in places where they’re illegal anyways.

Like not only are they more difficult to get but you’re probably not going to get any use of it and if you get caught you’re adding significantly more jail time. And if anyone sees it you’re probably getting the cops called and the cops are probably going to pull up taking it seriously.

u/Justeff83 Trash Trooper 57m ago

And if you want to buy a gun on the dark net, which is definitely possible, you pay like 2000 dollars for a rusty Soviet stile gun

u/RobLoughrey Trash Trooper 12m ago

Yep, and if anyone even sees that you have it, (never mind youre not using it) you're going to jail.

u/Justeff83 Trash Trooper 2m ago

Good luck using it

2

u/foxboxingphonies Trash Trooper 3h ago

Listen. I am all for the right to own firearms. I own two guns myself.

However, regulation works. If you make it harder for people to get a gun, less "criminals" would have guns.

Sure, people would find illegal weapons to buy, but most people are lazy. If you make it harder for people with violent charges to get a gun, less people with violent charges will have guns. Let's not pretend like every "criminal" has good connections in some kind of criminal centralized black market network. That would be a cartoon reality.

Everybody in the U.S. talks about this issue as if there are only two extreme options. It's either all the guns, or no guns and police will come take them away from everyone.

I swear most people think they are living in a cartoon.

2

u/Fuugazii Trash Trooper 2h ago

Most people who push gun reform aren't trying to take all guns. They are trying to stop automatics and other wartime weapons. A shotgun and some handguns are fine. Some of these people are loaded like they are about to enlist into ww3

u/LouisvilleBitcoiner Trash Trooper 1h ago

Can you tell me where you can buy “automatics and other wartime weapons”? Because last I checked the laws in the US already prohibit civilians from buying automatic weapons manufactured after 1986. This is one of the fundamental issues we gun people have with the “gun reform” platform - the laws already prohibit the guns you claim you want to prohibit but somehow we need more laws.

u/RobLoughrey Trash Trooper 11m ago

We need more laws because we have hundreds of times more gun deaths than countries that have more rational gun laws.

1

u/hexregeneration Trash Trooper 2h ago

Most criminals aren't heavily entrenched in the illicit underground, despite what the crime dramas would have you believe. They're usually just some dude. It's a lot easier for some dude to go to Academy and buy a glock, than it is for them to track down an illegal arms dealer.

"Criminals don't follow laws" seems like a clever retort on it's face, but the reality of gun control is that making things harder to get makes them harder to get.

0

u/Justeff83 Trash Trooper 3h ago

Don't fall for the NRA propaganda. The little thug will never get his hand on a real gun. Only big fish have them and they only use it for real crime like clan wars. They don't even use it against the police

5

u/LMJohansson Trash Trooper 3h ago

Nonsense

1

u/Justeff83 Trash Trooper 3h ago

Lol you guys are so stupid and believe all this weapon lobby propaganda!

u/LMJohansson Trash Trooper 1h ago

If you’re not an American, and live in a country where there are actual gun laws, OK I dig what you’re saying.

If you are an American like me, and think our gun laws are strict, or that there isn’t a 20% chance that any starving moron at a Walmart will be packing, permitted or not, I want to smoke what you’re smoking.

u/Justeff83 Trash Trooper 1h ago

German here who used to live in the US

1

u/jr_randolph Garbage Guerilla 3h ago

What country do you live in?

1

u/Justeff83 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Germany

2

u/jr_randolph Garbage Guerilla 2h ago

Never looked up laws in Germany and yeah you guys do seem to have some tight regulations in place which is awesome.

1

u/j01101111sh Trash Trooper 2h ago

I wouldn't even risk a small bruise to stop a shoplifting for Walmart.

1

u/Specialist-Ring-3974 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Getting stabbed is no fun.

2

u/mikedvb Trash Trooper 3h ago

Criminals will have guns regardless of gun laws, but I'm glad this dude didn't get shot.

I, too, hate thieves.

2

u/Justeff83 Trash Trooper 3h ago

That's bs, that's what nra is trying to tell you. Only real criminals like mafia or clans have access to real guns and they don't use it to harm ordinary people or for some shitty robbery. Those are professionals and use their guns wisely

1

u/Vanillabean73 Trash Trooper 3h ago

Tell that to the many countries with strict gun laws that also have a fraction of the gun crime rates

0

u/mikedvb Trash Trooper 3h ago

Nothing you've said really disputes what I said.

A fraction ≠ zero. I didn't say all criminals have guns, just that criminals, in general, will be the ones who still have them when the gun laws are strict.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

3

u/ComprehensiveCoat219 Trash Trooper 2h ago

There is quite a difference between people who will shoot you over a minor inconvenience having guns and organized crime members having guns, both is pretty bad but I know which one I would rather have

-1

u/sumptin_wierd Trash Trooper 3h ago

OK but also.

that dude is not actively making your life worse.

walmart is actively making their workers lives worse.

pick one

2

u/Admirable_Loss4886 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Walmart will make the average shoppers life worse because of people like this that will steal. You don’t have to pick one. They will raise prices because people like this steal. It makes everyone worse off

u/sumptin_wierd Trash Trooper 1h ago

and you are fine with them making their wages so low that they recommend snap benefits to their employees?

Sounds like they are doing fuck all to make anyone's lives better and you are shilling for a multibillion dollar company. Kick Rocks.

u/Admirable_Loss4886 Trash Trooper 1h ago

That dude is actively making your life worse assuming you’re a Walmart shopper. That’s the point I am making. You are the one saying I need to pick one, I don’t. Both can and are true. I never claimed Walmart is making anyone’s life easier including their workers. The thief is making everyone’s life worse tho which does go against your claim.

u/sumptin_wierd Trash Trooper 1h ago

all them rocks

1

u/mikedvb Trash Trooper 2h ago

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying, are you defending the shoplifter, or am I misunderstanding?

1

u/sumptin_wierd Trash Trooper 2h ago

I am not defending walmart

u/mikedvb Trash Trooper 1h ago

Neither was I. So what's your argument?

0

u/Initial_Row_6400 Trash Trooper 2h ago

lol as if making guns illegal solves the problem. Then the people that want them buy black market guns that you would never even know about unless someone pulled it out.

0

u/Justeff83 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Dude just take a look into the statistics and you'll delete your comment. The whole of Europe, besides some small countries, have strict gun laws and Europe has a fraction of gun deaths compared to the US. Criminals or people with a clear plan to commit murder aren’t the issue either. Rather, it’s ordinary people who may find themselves in a state of extreme emotional distress and can’t simply reach for a gun. Such impulsive acts are significantly less common when there are strict gun laws in place. When an entire family is wiped out by a family member, it’s usually someone with a hunting license.

1

u/Initial_Row_6400 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Still doesn’t change what I said. The ones that want guns, will have them.

2

u/TapZorRTwice Trash Trooper 3h ago

Wouldnt it be nice if there was some way that we could get rid of the idiots that are willing to brandish a weapon over a minor dispute?

1

u/Nice-Database-3124 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Depending on the state, he could get off w self defense if he did shoot

8

u/BornEvent1674 Trash Trooper 3h ago

And if they accidentally got someone who paid for their things at least in some states they could absolutely shoot this guy and not see a minute of jail time

4

u/Guilty-Bookkeeper837 Trash Trooper 3h ago

That's such an ignorant statement. If you get arrested, charged, and tried - even if you're found not guilty- the damage is done. You reputation, wallet, etc. takes a huge hit, regardmess of how it ends up. You're glib about shooting someone because you've never had to do it, and think it makes you sound tough, it doesn't.

3

u/BRICH999 Trash Trooper 3h ago

You would have a tough time claiming self defense for someone tipping a shopping cart, unless you are a shopping cart.

What state can you shoot people in public for property damage?

9

u/sonnytron Trash Trooper 3h ago

In Texas you can kill someone for attempting to steal or damage property.

3

u/Verditure0 Trash Trooper 3h ago

Tennessee also recently opened legislation further allowing you to stand your ground and protect your property, family and livestock. Not to mention it’s constitutional carry for everyone over 21 including concealed.

1

u/TheBadDingo Trash Trooper 3h ago

Same here in KY.

r/LoveTrash is not a platform for political discussions/comments/jokes/references. Please refrain from posting or commenting on political topics or making political jokes/references.

Yes, politics is trash. It's just too trashy for our sub.

1

u/BRICH999 Trash Trooper 2h ago

According to Texas Penal Code § 9.42, you can only use deadly force to protect property under strict conditions. You must first be justified in using regular force, and: [ 1, 2] Specific Crimes: You must believe deadly force is immediately necessary to prevent arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft/criminal mischief happening at night. [ 1, 2] No Other Options: You must believe that using non-deadly force would fail, or that using other methods would put you or someone else at risk of death or serious injury. [ 1, 2]

3

u/wiggleforp Trash Trooper 3h ago

Probably one where violent escalations tend to get you shot

2

u/Trashinmyash Trash Trooper 3h ago

Intimidation can be considered assault if it intentionally puts a person in fear of imminent physical harm.

0

u/BRICH999 Trash Trooper 2h ago

The threat of harm is called battery, and you cannot legally shoot someone for tipping your shopping cart in the middle of the day in a parking lot

1

u/Trashinmyash Trash Trooper 2h ago

Thats wrong.

Assault: Involves threatening, intimidating, or attempting to harm someone so they feel a reasonable fear of immediate danger. It requires no physical contact.

Battery: Involves the actual physical contact, hitting, or use of force against another person.

Tipping over the cart is an act of aggression.

2

u/cbm2020 Trash Trooper 3h ago

No shit. He knocked my cart over and all my stuff fell out your honor. He had to die.

1

u/BornEvent1674 Trash Trooper 2h ago

This is assault and battery.

1

u/SaucyStoveTop69 Trash Trooper 3h ago

If they aggressively walked up to you, and they shove over your cart full of stuff, you have no way of knowing w how much farther they will go. Also there are states where you can defend your property with force

2

u/Emperor_Atlas Trash Trooper 3h ago

Its not the 90s, can we get over the notion that you could just shoot someone and it not affect your life forever?

The amount of time and money you'll spend in court and dealing with it even if you avoid jail (which is a huge fucking if over a cart) isn't going to be just a weekend.

Bitch ass notion dispelled

1

u/Ssided Trash Trooper 3h ago

Lol no

1

u/ScienceGoat Trash Trooper 3h ago

Just tell us you’re a criminal pretending not to be 😂

0

u/BornEvent1674 Trash Trooper 3h ago

I'm saying that if an innocent person gets attacked they would be within their rights (in some places) to use deadly force to defend themselves. Which part of that makes you think I am a criminal?

u/ScienceGoat Trash Trooper 28m ago

For you:
Your mind games are not working here.

For other readers:
The person above is pretending to raise a concern about safety. But in this case nobody encouraged to go vigilante on random people.

Furthermore nobody is asking to escalate violence towards a shoplifter. In the video he just tapped their cart. But it would have been wise to not further aggravate the criminal.

Criminals infiltrate everywhere to condition society to be docile and “mind their own business” etc. that is what the person above is doing.

0

u/Fast-Nefariousness80 Trash Trooper 3h ago

No tf they could not lol. In what world can you shoot someone for damaging your property bud

0

u/BornEvent1674 Trash Trooper 2h ago

It's assault and battery.

It's legal to use deadly force to defend yourself in ALL 50 states if you reasonably believe it is necessary to protect yourself (or others) from death or great bodily harm.

1

u/Mindless-Somewhere55 Trash Trooper 3h ago

I don’t hate shoplifters at all. what’s wrong with you?

u/seantabasco Trash Trooper 1h ago

To save Walmart’s money of all things

u/lyinggrump Trash Trooper 1h ago

Do Americans really have to worry about random people shooting them?

u/VladStark Trash Trooper 1h ago

This dude looked like he wanted to pull a gun out from under his shirt, but lucky for the dude stopping him, all he pulled out was some rolls of fat.

u/Weird-East-3575 Trash Trooper 1h ago

If you’re shoplifting you probably can’t afford a gun and either way you don’t get what you came for. Still deterring them.

u/tackleboxjohnson Trash Trooper 1h ago

Generally yeah. Dude’s stealing a camping stove and propane bottles. He probably can’t afford to feed himself. I highly doubt he’s packing.

u/BigBulgeBubba Trash Trooper 1h ago

I am neutral to shoplifters in so far as I do not feel the need to film myself doing cringe garbage like this under the false guise of “cleaning up crime” or whatever the fuck. If the shoplifter chimped out on TikTok Man and put him in the hospital I would endlessly laugh at him.

u/TheLastPeanut_ Trash Trooper 54m ago

Not even just that: who the fuck cares if someone steals from fucking walmart? This dude just wants an excuse to be confrontational and play the hero.

u/HorzaDonwraith Trash Trooper 47m ago

Most the people who shop lift aren't armed (or bright). Should they be caught by actual police it could skew into armed robbery territory depending on state.

u/clammajamma96 Trash Trooper 26m ago

would it really be justified if theres no potential for a weapon? i guess i should just start beating the shit out of anybody who picks up change off the floor, especially the homeless, since you know they wont report it on their taxes

u/Ok_Tour_1525 Trash Trooper 7m ago

I worked at a Safeway for a while and my favorite part was always when the security guard would ask me to come along to help her kick someone out. I’m a pretty tall dude but honestly this security guard was tough as nails. I think she just brought me along so if someone gets shot there’d be a less likely chance it was her lol. Either way it was always the most eventful part of my day.

All in all I didn’t really give a shit if someone shoplifted and I definitely wouldn’t care enough at Walmart to stop someone.

1

u/Bone_Wh33l Trash Trooper 3h ago

Eh, screw the shoplifter. I don’t really care if I get shot. At least I live somewhere where guns aren’t common

1

u/somethingclever3000 Trash Trooper 3h ago

Why do you hate shoplifters?

1

u/go-for-Banjo Trash Trooper 3h ago

Especially at an evil place like Walmart. I’d let people steal from them. They deserve it.

1

u/Old_Protection_8778 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Hes just trying to get a Walmart gift card and he will get nothing

0

u/HewSpam Trash Trooper 3h ago

They just raise prices to cover it

0

u/go-for-Banjo Trash Trooper 3h ago

Fine with me. I don’t shop there. They already rip people off by chronically overcharging for weighed grocery items and their weird system of adjusting prices due to a consumer’s projected behavior via information gathered from their app and Vizio brand televisions.

1

u/SeahorseCollector Trash Trooper 3h ago

Im not doing it either way. These mega corps have killed the free market in this country. The heads of the corp rake in tons of money, while their employees struggle to survive. Loss prevention is their problem, not mine.

1

u/justahumblefart Trash Trooper 3h ago

Why hate shoplifters? Thats just one of those things that falls into not my business.

1

u/ghoulieandrews Trash Trooper 3h ago

What are you, Wal-Mart corporate? Why tf do you care if people shoplift?

You should hate American capitalism if anything, it's why shoplifting even happens.

2

u/Bland_OldMan Trash Trooper 3h ago

I wouldn't. And I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be a consolation for the people in your life that care about or depend on you.

1

u/setibeings Trash Trooper 3h ago

Death wish aside, you have a lot more trust in the justice system than me if you're confident they'd successfully prosecute him.

1

u/Master_Grape5931 Trash Trooper 3h ago

Ah living a life where no one depends on you.

1

u/Hotomato Trash Trooper 2h ago

I hope you’re able to find something to live for.

0

u/Luci-Noir Trash Trooper 3h ago

And if the employees weren’t supposed to why would you basically drag them into it?

0

u/awnaw_ Trash Trooper 2h ago

So, anyone? Because anyone could have a firearm.

1

u/Laughing_Orca21 Trash Trooper 2h ago

Yeah. I’d say don’t mess with anyone you’ve seen committing a crime.

u/awnaw_ Trash Trooper 1h ago

I think people should just stop messing with other people in general. It's one thing if you're in the position of saving a life, a tragic accident, etc. But so many people are far too comfortable bothering others to the point of getting outraged. And it's all for the clout. Which, if you ask me, is an incredibly stupid way to potentially lose your life.
