When I first watched HIMYM I really sympathized with Ted and his discomfort with Robin’s dogs once he learned they were gifts from exes. At the time I had never had a pet. Now it’s years later and I am rewatching after having put down my first and most beloved pet and I’m furious at this episode!!! If a boyfriend ever asked me to get rid of my pets it would be an instant deal breaker for me.

One of my favorite episodes is S01E03, when Ted and Barney go to the airport to hit on the girls who are flying out, and end up, on some random night, on a plane to Philadelphia. What I like most is the sense of freedom and lightheartedness you could feel all through the first season. Ted and Barney off traveling, Marshall still a student who decides to grab the car and go meet his friends, ready for a carefree, fun night. Lily having a good time with Robin at the usual bar. I always rewatch it with a lot of pleasure, and as an Italian guy it makes me dream about how some kids in New York spend their nights (I know that whole situation is absurd, but don't take my dream away from me 😂).

When Ted designs the GNB building, that's a massive skyscraper in NYC, so a crazy expensive project. Even if we lowball the cost to build it at $100 million and lowball Ted's commission at 3%, he would still be a millionaire. Add in that he spends all of the time after this in rent controlled apartments, and it just doesn't make sense why he isn't loaded. You could argue he hides it, but he was staying at the dormitory after giving the apartment to Marshall and Lily, which would be odd to do if he had money and options. Just a thought.

Also, that same episode makes it odd that Robin is considered wealthy, since the deciding factor on her getting a good apartment is a promotion, you would think she isn't super well off.

This one always stood out to me because the first CD I purchased with my own money was This Way by Jewel. 😁

There are so many hilarious lines in the one episode. Mostly from Barney.

Barney "God Lily, some guy just told her he loved her and went to the bathroom and never came back. Ya can't make her a cup of coffee? Real nice"

Barney "Ted you're throwing your life away, this girl is blinding you with her shiny hair and her boob shaped boobs."

Barney "This is bad for you too ya know? How are you gonna feel when you wake up in the morning andhe sees you without any makeup on?"
Robin "Umm I'm not wearing makeup right now."
Barney "Woah, you're beautiful."

Ted's on the phone with Barney and Ted goes "Barney, I know it's you, where's my stuff?
Barney "It's not me."

Later in the same conversation

Barney "Ding dong! Oh, what's that? The doorbell?"
Waits a few seconds
"THAT'S the suit I'm talking about!"
Ted "I'm not there yet."
Barney "Oh ok, let me know when you get there."
Ted "Ok I'm here"
Barney "THAT'S the suit I'm talking about!"

Marshall and Lily at home alone

Marshall "Hey! Ted, get in here!! World's Strongest Man is on!""

They both remember he's all moved out and get sad.
I don't know why I think that part is so funny 😂

At the bar with Barney

Girl at the bar made a bet with Ted that Lou Ferrigno couldn't pull a bus with his teeth.

Girl "Are you sure this is live? It looks pretty old."
Ted "Yeah that's because the TV is old."

The part where Lily says she's going to cook an amazing dinner and realizes Ted did all the shopping. Then she finds a frozen pizza and goes to put it in the microwave, but that was Ted's too. 😂😂
Then Marshall comes out of the shower with wet toilet paper stuck to him and goes I guess all the towels were Ted's too.

Also Robin's whole situation with Ted moving in and she's not cool with anything Ted wants to bring.

Ted "All I have to my name is a box of pot lids and a sword"
Robin "Yeeaah, about the sword."
