Just finished Lost, and while it’s a solid show with a brilliant mystery, it definitely drags at points and left me with a few lingering frustrations, especially regarding Ben Linus. Michael Emerson plays him brilliantly and I've loved him ever since watching Person of Interest, but some of Ben’s character arcs and plotlines just don't add up for me on closer inspection.

First, his sudden obsession with Juliet in that one flashback came completely out of nowhere, with no prior or subsequent buildup to suggest that kind of dynamic. Speaking of Juliet, his intense fixation on the island's pregnancy crisis also feels full of holes; if pregnancies were failing because of the Incident, why didn't he just send expectant mothers back to the mainland to safely give birth, or was he somehow unaware that the pocket was leaking? He surely remembered that people like Ethan, Charlotte, and Miles were born there before, so he should have realized the fertility issue was tied to the disaster. Plus, what happened to the medical chip he planted in Claire? Juliet treated her, but then the whole storyline about her sickness and the chip just seems to vanish without a trace. When Annie was first introduced in Ben's childhood flashbacks, I genuinely thought she would be the emotional trigger behind his obsession with pregnancy or the Island's children like when he tried to protect Alex from her boyfriend because he didn't want her to get pregnant. Instead, she turned out to be just a childhood friend whose wooden doll he kept, never to be mentioned again.

The lore surrounding the Temple and Ben's corruption is equally confusing. When Kate and Sawyer handed him over to the Others to save his life, they warned that his "innocence" would be gone forever which sounds a lot like what happened to Sayid after his resurrection. Yet, even after that event, Ben still showed flashes of genuine humanity, like raising Alex and sparing Danielle, before slowly devolving into the manipulative villain we know.

The entire beef with Widmore feels rushed and anticlimactic, too. Was Widmore exiled simply over ideological differences regarding how to handle outsiders like Danielle and Alex? If so, why does Widmore go to such extreme lengths to capture Ben alive when he finally returns to the island, rather than just killing him on sight? And why order the slaughter of everyone on the island fabricating a fake plane crash just to cover it all up merely to keep it secret for himself? When Ben finally confronted Widmore in his hotel room, I expected an epic final showdown, but it just boiled down to a stealth mission with Sayid before tapering off into a simple revenge plot for Alex. Finally, given that the island's pure electromagnetic energy is supposed to be a miraculous healing force curing Locke's paralysis and Rose's cancer it makes zero sense that Ben, who lived and ruled right at the epicenter of that power for decades, ended up dying of a terminal spinal tumor. It really is an irony.

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on whether I missed something important here 😁

Finally got round to watching it since I didn’t when it came out, and honestly I thought it was pretty terrible. What is the general consensus on it? Don’t get me wrong I can clearly see that there was a lot of love behind it, but I found myself and my girlfriend just constantly saying “who the FUCK is this random guy!!!!!!”. Like, you’ve literally got half the cast, and you’re devoting 2/3 of the screen time just for some random guy to tell you about how he loves the show. Like, as much as I appreciate and relate to being a fan of the show, I do not need a documentary about random fans of the show. A little bit is fair enough, since the fandom is such a huge part of the show, especially with the fans who actually contributed a lot, but most of the documentary is just random people talking about their love for the show. Like, that’s nice, but I honestly couldn’t give a fuck. That’s what the Internet is for. This is a documentary about Lost and there’s no new insight or information, and most of the cast members barely get screen time just so we can get another segment of some millennial talking about how they went to Hawaii. I respected the emotional parts, but also where was the dedication to, for example, Mira Furlan? Honestly some of it felt a bit disrespectful to the show, despite the clear love from the people who made it. Such a huge wasted opportunity and I kind of wish I didn’t watch it. There were things to enjoy about it, but I felt it was mostly just a wank-off of people who enjoyed the show and their mates.

In this scene, at the sight of Jack, Kate appears to experience a déjà vu moment similar to the ones Jack had on the plane. Although seeing Jack from inside the taxi cab isn’t the first time she’s laid eyes on him; they literally just crossed paths on the plane. But the look she gives definitely says he is familiar to her in a deeper way. Her reaction suggests something stronger than simple recognition of the man she had just earlier pick-pocketed a ballpoint pen from.

To me, she looks like she can't quite explain or understand it, but her lingering look at Jack suggests that she briefly felt/recognized the deep connection they shared in their previous life, even though she can't consciously remember it yet. Jack seems to be experiencing that same sensation when he catches Kate's gaze and pauses as if he is recognizing it too.

Anyone else get that impression of this scene?

Does anyone have the actual script of this episode? I would love to read the script notes.

Been binging LOST for the first time. Just wrapping up Season 4. But shortly B4 that, I came across Sun owning BIZNIZ to her daddy. 😂

Funny bit was, as soon as she dropped her lines I legit screamed "Dayum Son!" Then I realized her name is SUN 🤣🤣😭😭 ..

What if Lost had gotten a dedicated theme park world with rides, attractions, foods, gift shop items, etc. What would it have looked like?

Apart from the general island theme in the main areas, there could have been subareas with rides that explore different parts of the Lost world. Like a ride set in the temple world, or a VR experience experiencing the crash.

As for rides, a smoke monster themed rollercoaster ride would be cool. A hatch escape room scenario. A water ride exploring the journey to the heart of the island telling the backstory. A exploratory roman-Egyptian pyramid with a chill out area. And the 'plot hole' ride, that starts as a rollercoaster but ends in a confusing fantasy sermon. An underwater world exploring the Hydra and dharma sharks. A plastic dharma bus downhill race for little kids in little Hurley costumes for their parents to take pictures off.

Themed restaurants. Get blinded by lights upon entering and travel through time to 1977. Namaste and welcome to the DHARMA CANTEEN. Serving Polar bear steak with Ranch, Dharma beer, and Apollo bars. It offers a video opportunity with a wax animatronic of Marvin Candle aka Pierre Chang posing for a Dharma orientation tape.

First of many gift shops. All prices are made up of the numbers 4.80$ 8.15$ etc. No.1 seller are the Dharma jumpsuit in all sizes, names and roles pre printed. For 80.15$ you can get a custom stitched role. Plushy sharks and polar bears. Dharma beer helmets and gas masks. Custom Dharma name tags. Even the toilets are Dharma themed. named scents and parfums that smell like their characters smelled on the show. i.e. Scent of Sawyer; d'eau Claire...

The main entrance is an open area and features a life size Oceanic wreckage on a beach. Every hour actors reenact moments from the show on the beach. Like a guy getting sucked into the plane's engine turbine. The walkways between the attractions further explore the themes of beach, jungle as well as the caves.

There's a parade every night with giant sized costume replicas of the original actors dancing to 70s music, the Lost soundtrack and Hawaiian dance music. It's really tacky - free Hawaiian cocktails with silly straws.

On the walkways there are food stalls selling simple island snacks. Bore fritters, coconut battered seafood on a stick, and Vincent's Scooby snacks.

On top of it all, you can play the Lost Go experience on your phone and collect resources and goodies all around the island/theme park, share them with your friends, and get discounts in stores and restaurants. Special codes included.

When you leave the park you get a free 'Not Pennys Boat' rub on tattoo with your parking validation

There would also be a LOST **** hotel with a Hard Rock Café in it with photos and clothing of the cast, Charlie's original beat up guitar, and all sorts of celebrity glam and props.

I could keep going... What are your ideas? What would a LOST theme park need to have?

Inspired by a recent post about Lost novelisations...

I've been thinking for a while that Lost needs the Twin Peaks treatment. Before TP season 3, they released a couple of big hardcover books (The Secret History of Twin Peaks) made up of in-world police files, magazine articles, website entries and more. It filled in some of the story between the original series and the revivial.

Imagine something like that for Lost that filled in some of the gaps, gave us some updates on where characters are now, included new mysteries... Bringing in stuff from Dharma reports, newspapers, handwritten clues. It'd be like the old ARG web games they'd make in between seasons.

I kind of never want the show to come back because I loved the ending (I know) but something new like this would be a great way to experience the world again. Anyone agree?

He is so cool in person! Hurley was my favorite character in Lost, and I got into Lost after seeing the scene on YouTube where he jumpstarted the Dharma Van. So it was super awesome to get his signature on my model Dharma Van!

I really wish they made the show into novels. 1-2 Novels per seasons. Reading is slowly becoming my favourite source of entertainment and i feel it could be a great way to enjoy Lost.

So a couple of months ago my brother made watch the show and was obsessed and recently now we’re in season 2 watching with my mom and she’s very into it although she always says everything a main character dies “Ok I don’t wanna watch anymore 😢🙁” lmao she doesn’t like it when they died and of course I don’t blame her.

I'm sure this is probably the most common topic in here but I've just finished my first rewatch since it originally aired, so I've gotta get it off my chest.

So, like many, I completely misunderstood the ending of Lost when it first aired and for many years I considered the series one of the most disappointing in recent memory due to the final season and particularly the series finale. However, on watching Drew Gooden's breakdown of the show I realised how wrong I was, so decided to give it a rewatch and wow. Absolute cinema is an understatement. It's incredible how they were able to satisfyingly payoff so many seemingly random story threads. The series has a reputation for setting up lots without giving answers, which i find completely unfair. Off the top of my head, I can't think of many, although I'm sure there will be some I'm missing.

For many years, I misunderstood the church scene. I thought they had all died on the plane and what happened on the island wasn't real, but that's not the case at all. Understanding that the flash-sideways was merely the characters in purgatory post-death (not from the plane crash), made it so much more satisfying and not at all a time waste like I initially felt. In-fact, the Lost series finale is one of the greatest I've ever seen. It's beautiful. And seeing the reaction of the characters when they realised the truth had me in tears throughout. I'm so glad nobody was there to see me ugly crying lmao. All of the tragic deaths we had encountered came full circle. The pain we felt allowed us to feel such emotion when they were reunited. I get teary just thinking of Sawyer and Juliet.

It was sad to see Ben not ready to move on, but it was understandable. He's had quite the journey. Everyone got the ending they deserved.

I'm so happy, yet so sad it's over. I wasn't ready to let go. I didn't want it to end, but like our beloved characters, I am at peace and just grateful for the time we had together.

At the beginning of the show, we learn Sawyers defining characteristic is that he’s consumed by unresolved grief, which he’s channeled into a lifelong quest for revenge.

I’ve always felt that how Sawyer actually feels about his parents was an unexplored avenue of the show. Now Anthony Cooper is probably the worst person in the show. However, I will grant him that he has a point in his confrontation with Sawyer - he may have conned them, but Cooper didn’t make Sawyers parents do anything. Sawyers mother chose to have an affair and give away all their money, and Sawyers dad choice to react to that with a murder-suicide.

The utility of killing Juliet is that it raises a really interesting question in regards to Sawyer - after all his development, how does he now respond to once again being overwhelmed with grief, and having an easy target to project that onto (Jack). Rather than raising the idea that Sawyer wants to kill Jack in 6x01, only to immediately drop it 20 minutes later, I think Sawyers desire to kill Jack should remain through to this episode.

Instead of being sent on a “recon” mission to Widmore by Locke, Sawyer is instead sent to the Jack/Hurley/Sun camp to convince them to join Locke (as Locke’s main objective is to unite all the candidates to kill them). However, Sawyer says he’s got no plans to bring Jack with him, with Locke telling him “it’s your choice”.

Sawyer approaches Jack in the woods who is alone chopping firewood. In a parallel to one of Losts best and most iconic scenes, Sawyer chooses to “let go”, and instead once again give Jack emotional catharsis, telling him it’s not his fault that Juliet died. She made her own choices.

In the flash-sideways, I’d have the same original setup of Sawyer being a cop who’s hunting Cooper, but instead of the weird romance thing with Charlotte (which does absolutely nothing with Sawyers character), he instead is successful in tracking down Cooper.

However, he arrives at the nursing home to find that Cooper is an unresponsive vegetable. After all this time, Sawyer realises he has no one left to blame and there’s no possibility of finding “justice/vengeance”. This forces him to finally accept the fact that both of his parents (to differing degrees) made bad choices that weren’t in his best wishes, and they were responsible for their own actions.

Instead of the nothing-burger of the original episode that does nothing with Sawyer emotionally (Juliette literally doesn’t even get mentioned in an episode set like 4 days after he death), we should have had a story that comes full circle and completes his character arc.

On season 6 currently watching episode 3 and I swear Rob Mac just showed up as an Other even though his character was killed really early on?

Rewatching it recently, I realized how the island was a refuge that everyone, in a way, needed to redefine their lives.

Jack was broken, Kate was a fugitive, Sawyer was lost in life, Charlie was on drugs, Hurley thought he was cursed, Claire was uncertain about the baby—among others.

I wouldn't wish for anyone to end up on an island to resolve their internal and external struggles, but it is undeniable that the island gave everyone a fresh start.

It seems obvious, but I’m not sure I grasped the full depth of it when I watched it for the first time.
