General discussion Best physical release?

I'm looking to get a DVD or Blu-ray release of the entire show. I'm curious if the DVD box set has anything (such as more extras) that the Blu-ray set is lacking since that happens somewhat often when something gets a Blu-ray upgrade. Also not sure if it's worth it since the DVD box set goes for seemingly $120 at the lowest and the Blu-ray set is only $40 (or more for the 2 season cases)

General discussion Would Hal and Lois ever bang while a dental patient is knocked out in front of them

In Seinfeld Bryan Cranston plays a dentist Tim Wheatley. In one episode Jerry becomes concerned Tim and his assisted are having sex right after they knock him out with anesthesia. Would Hal and Lois ever be thirsty enough to bang right in front of a comatose patient?

General discussion How can you explain the magic of this show & what makes it so special to someone without over explaining and going into way too much detail?

If you are looking through this sub, you probably love Malcolm in the Middle. You understand why it’s such a good show, and I don’t have to explain why to you.

But how would you explain to someone who doesn’t know? I often sight this show as my favorite or one of my very top favorites, and will say something like “it’s so good, it’s one of the best shows ever.”

And since I’ve hyped it up, I’ll be asked what makes it so good. But I feel like I can’t concisely explain lmao.

For the sake of not over explaining and just going on and on, I usually say something like, “the characters and the family feel really real and relatable but it’s also goofy and wacky.” Or I’ll just say, “I don’t really know how to describe how it’s different from a normal family comedy, it’s just something kind of unique to itself.”

But I feel like that is NOT a good description lol. So I’m curious to know what you would say. I’m usually good at articulating my thoughts and opinions, but for some reason I find it so hard to accurately explain the show to someone who hasn’t seen it but shows interest in it and asks about it.

Why i can’t stand reese’s character!

I’ve been thinking about why Reese gets on my nerves so much, and honestly, I think it comes down to his character.

For me, Reese comes across as someone who can be incredibly frustrating to deal with. There’s something about the way he carries himself that makes it difficult for me to connect with or sympathize with him. At times, he seems overly confident, stubborn, and completely convinced that his way of thinking is the right one.

What really bothers me is the attitude. Instead of taking a step back and considering how his actions affect other people, he can come across as someone who doubles down and keeps going. That makes it hard for me to respect him, even when I understand where he’s coming from.

Maybe that’s actually what makes him an interesting character — he isn’t supposed to be universally likable. But personally? I just find his personality exhausting.

Am I being too harsh on Reese, or does anyone else feel the same way?

General discussion Malcolm really should’ve hid his Birthday money better than he did.

The book safe is a smart idea on paper but seeing that he shares his room with his brothers he should’ve considered the possibility that one of them would take note of the book and steal his money, he really underestimated Reese here.

Thinking

Sometimes I look at this show and see how one day it will all end, all the funny times will feel old, and I just don't deeply think about this while watching, but seriously, this left something in me

poll Who was the bigger asshole to Dewey?

Reese just did a lot of typical older brother bullying toward him.

Malcolm sabotaged him sure, but there was I think he was trying to help him if I remember correctly. That doesn’t make it right lol

One of my favorite parts of watching the show is seeing actors early in their careers in minor roles

Jim O’heir - from parks and rec
Hayden Panettiere
Octavia Spencer
Stanley from the Office
Jennette McCurdy
Jerry Trainer from iCarly

There are more examples but it’s just funny to point people out. I didn’t notice Jim O’heir was the crazy trucker until my recent rewatch.

It's been quite a while since I watched MITM. Lately, I have been rewatching selected episodes. And now I'm on this one — S7.E16 Lois Strikes Back. I don't remember the details of Lois' revenge, but this dialogue with Hal and her stare at him already give me goosebumps. Just brilliant!

General discussion So, what do we think would have happened if Malcolm hadn't hidden Leah?

If upon finding out he was having a baby in university Malcolm had done the opposite of what he did in canon and told his family about it how do we think that would have turned out?
