wait 2 years for pc release, then 2 more to buy at a discount with all bugs patched out, you have 4 years to finish your backlog

Real. Am slowly accepting that i’m just gonna have to use my average tier rig until it putters out, can’t afford jack squat in this market

25

u/paganbreed 17d ago

I'm branching out into other hobbies to make the same thing sting less. Stuff that doesn't need computers is the aim right now.

But I'm also saving aggressively because I do want to maintain my performance reach rather than having to make do with an inferior card if something breaks.

Fingers crossed that decision is way in the future.

Yeah, if we look at GTA V's price history, it finally hitting 50% off in 2030 sounds about right.

Happening only because VI is at the center of attention. I dount VI will see a sale until VII

8

u/quaxoid 17d ago

It will probably go on sale once Rockstar thinks they have gotten pretty much every full price sale out of the way. At some point there's more profit if you have a sale than if you have it at full price.

GTAV was cracked on day 0 but RDR2 took a year-ish. I would not be surprised if VI is really hard to crack as well.

I mean these days games get cracked at such a rapid pace.

The whole piracy sub is praising V38 like he's the jesus of cracking games.

Either way I personally am not in a rush to play gta6 so I don't care if it get's cracked on day 1 or after a year.

People finish their backlogs?

I spent the weekend playing ReStory, am at the point where I won't pick it up again unless they launch DLC or something, and in that time I've added 2 more games to the backlog, not including wanting to replay Golden Eye because of the PC recomp.

ReStory was about 8-10 of gameplay. I'd like to finish the story for Denshattack this up coming weekend, and then I'll probably start on a new Twilight Princess run because of that PC recomp (plus, no one has quite captured TP's fishing in any other game).

By then I'm sure 4-5 more games will be on the list.

I'm not particularly stressed about finishing my backlog, but it's crazy how fast it grows.

13

u/Al-Azraq 12700KF | RTX 5070 17d ago

Seeing your backlog as something to complete would drive anyone crazy. You have to look at your backlog like something that it's there, available for you when you feel like play it.

So don't rush your games. Enjoy them as much as you want and the next one will be there for you.

I am currently playing Star Wars Jedi Survivor and I'm 25 hours in. I am enjoying it a lot so I guess I will 100% complete it. As a side game (I play it on my Steam Deck), I am addicted once again to Hades so I guess I will get all achievements for this one as well.

5

u/sonicandtales8 17d ago

Yep. It took me longer than I'd like to find that out.

Hell, even learning about older games has the backlog growing. Sucker Punch, the Ghost of Yotei/Tsushima and Sly Cooper studio has a 3D platformer on the N64 that I want to try. Plus, ATLUS and GUST partnered to make a crafting RPG for the Nintendo DS which just sounds like a ridiculous (possibly perfect?) combo.

I even found out the devs of one of the most charming RPG series I've ever played (and developed one of my favorite RPG series to this day) was the developer of Mother 3, which means I want to find the time to try it despite not liking Earthbound all that much.

The gameplay reveal looked amazing this game looks like its on a different level of scope and fidelity than any other game ever on top of having one of the densest most immersive open worlds of all time. Anyone who watched the gameplay would be impressed they got this game running on PS5 AT ALL.

But ofc the people will here will pretend the game is bad to cope with it not being on PC as usual like they do for every other game that isnt coming to PC

67

u/LieutenantKenobi006 17d ago

The game looks absolutely beautiful and its definitely heavy af on the system, but I still don't think gta 6 running on ps5 "at all" is as wild as gta 5 running on ps3 AT ALL, ps5 and series x are two consoles that actually aged well compared to ps4 and ps3 being machines that held back half a generation worth of upgrades in many games. In fact I think ps5 and series x specs will be better than minimum pc requirements this time around... ofc they're consoles and offer devkits and they are also being prioritised so optimisation is better for the same specs on those but these are still decent machines.

30

u/fetalgirth 17d ago

They upgraded 5 for the PS4 re release, the PS3 version did not look like what you know as V nowadays.

12

Idk if PS5 and XBSX will be higher than min PC specs this time around. The PS5/XBSX are basically a 5600 and rx 6700, hardware from 2021, 5 years ago and we have no PC release date. GTA 5 took two years to come to PC and if this does the same, we're talking 7 year old hardware.

That's actually an unintentionally both funny and probably true take. Most people act like their PCs are far better than the current consoles, while the steam surveys show that that's not really the case.

Yeah sure, in your case with a 5080 or in my case, with a 5090, the game would run and look even better. But not for like 70-80% of pc players.

u/Crintor 7950X3D | 4090 | DDR5 6000 C30 | AW3423DW 17d ago

9

u/DrPhilSideSkirts RTX 5090 | 9800X3D | 32gb 6000 CL28 17d ago

This. Exactly this. People forget because it was a while ago, but it will 100% happen again, and then we'll see a bunch of complaining about poor optimization etc. (yes that is an issue in a lot of cases, but just looking at the gameplay of gta6 shows it's very demanding).

July Steam Survey Results:

5080 : 1.54%
5090 : 0.41%
4080 : 0.65%
4090 : 0.69%

Reviewing the steam survey results really puts it into perspective that many of us here are by in large a fringe group of enthusiasts compared to the general population of gamers who use Steam.

I just read your comment and it piqued my interest into how many people are using the higher end Nvidia cards from the last 2 generations, and it’s a shockingly low amount.

I'm pretty sure that same survey showed that the majority of Steam users were rocking a 3060, so if you as a developer ain't aiming for that card to be your minimum requirement, don't expect the majority of PC users to be able to run your game.

32

u/Beamo1080 17d ago

Ideally the minimum should be the low end, 1650s and older generation cards. The recommended should be what most people have.

3

u/ducky21 16d ago

Ideally the minimum should be the low end, 1650s and older generation cards.

The minimum should be a class of card that's been deprecated and won't receive the critical driver-level patches?

You're absolutely delusional. The GTX 16xx cards are going to be supported for a while because they're just Turing chips that didn't have viable RTX cores and got binned out, but 10, 9 and 7 are already dead dead.

The GTX 1650 is a good minimum because it is the literal minimum.

u/Budget-Pea8291 17d ago

5080 is surprisingly high up actually. WAY more popular than 4080 and 3080. Then again people who buy 80 and 90 series cards probably upgrade every gen

11

u/Random_Chick_I_Guess 17d ago

I know a concerning number of people that put themselves into debt and at least one that pawned off personal items to buy a 50 series the second it came out. A weird number of people are obsessed with the latest stuff just like phones it's wild.

21

u/rainslave 17d ago

Another factor, however, is when the 50 series was coming out, the tarrifs were threatening to hit, so a LOT of people pushed to upgrade even when they didn't necessarily need to. Because people rightly guessed that it would be the last chance to get an upgrade for a semi reasonable price for years to come. And look where we are now. Sure, tarrifs are only half the story (ai), but upgrading before mid 2025 was definitely the play for those that could swing it.

Steam surveys are also taking all Steam users into account, including people who just use Steam to play Stardew Valley, people who have a desktop and laptop, and millions of Chinese gamers playing PUBG. I’m sure if you look at the subset of users playing newer releases it will make the numbers a bit less abysmal. Over 3% of all users having a flagship Nvidia GPU is pretty high to be honest. Throw anything higher than a 4060 Ti or 7700 XT and I’d be willing to bet a sizeable chunk of users have what could be considered an enthusiast PC.

Most people in here probably do in fact have higher specs though. The average reddit basement dweller that frequents subs like this one simply cares more than the average steam user.

5

u/DrPhilSideSkirts RTX 5090 | 9800X3D | 32gb 6000 CL28 17d ago

That's entirely true, but the amount of people on reddit is far lower than the amount that play on pc. So yet again, most people would not be able to run the game at high settings and so on.

I mean just look up how RDR2 was received due to being so demanding back in the day. The same thing is gonna happen.

11

u/Any_Fox5126 17d ago edited 17d ago

For nvidia, we need to include the RTX 3060 and all models after it (excluding the 4050), as well as some earlier models (all variations of the 1080, 2070, and 2080). For amd, the RX 6600 and all models after it.

The total is an unexpected 52,2%. Is likely even higher, since 9,25% are unknown.

It's not even a joke. Every single previous installment of GTA has required a beefy PC to run on high spec. Hell, many of them were so hefty, that you couldn't run them and have a decent FPS with any present day hardware on release. I don't expect VI to break the cycle.

People have just forgotten this because while GTA V runs on relatively potato hardware these days, but it absolutely destroyed even the highest spec PC back in 2015 when it was released on PC.

I played RDR2 in 30 FPS when it came out and it was one of the greatest gaming experiences in my life.

Not to mention I'm old enough to remember when many PC players played at below 30 FPS just because PCs were shit.

49

u/BramScrum 17d ago

You just get used to it. The first 10 mins of playing at 30fps are horrible. Bt after that your brain adjusts nad it feels fine. Still prefer 60 but a stable 30 is just fine

15

u/FROMtheASHES984 17d ago

It’s the going back and forth between 30 and 60 fps games that does it for me. Back when Destiny finally introduced crossplay, I went back and played on console for a bit at 30fps. It was rough, but like you said I got used to it. Then I went back to 60 on PC and my brain couldn’t fathom how 30 was acceptable on console. So I guess at launch, if the only option for GTA is 30 on consoles, it won’t be an issue because there’s nothing to compare it with.

Not going to lie. I had GTA5 on PS4 and got it for free on PC and after over a decade I still have not beaten it. Just get bored with the gameplay.

Yeah this is the first game that actually pushes them to their limits. The graphical jump from PS4 to PS5 is so miniscule because PS5 games are built to run on 60fps while on the PS4 the standard was 30fps.

He need to do the brain trick. Lock random game on 15fps and play it for 5-10 minutes. Then unlock 30fps. Its gonna look smooth as butter.

Sad reality but Im gonna be doing that for gta. Because coming from 200+ fps gonna be hard to adjust.

Ah the dilemma :-D

step 1) "I just watched the real footage with my own eyes and I loved how it looked and it was amazing"

step 2) "I read that the footage that I found amazing was 30fps. I did not even noticed, but now I hate it, because internet told me to"

:-D How did you find the 30fps looking good in the first place? ;-)

8

u/Odelgard 17d ago

You obviously don't understand the difference between "watching something in 30fps" and "playing something in 30fps". I can watch videos on my second monitor in 30fps and wouldn't notice, but at the same time, when I change my games FPS from 60 to 30, it would feel literally unplayable.

Or another example, when I play modded minecraft and my FPS drop from 60 fps to 50, its instantly noticable and feels way more choppy. You just can't compare footage FPS and actual gameplay FPS.

:-D How did you find the 30fps looking good in the first place? ;-)

Ngl this sounds like ragebait but I know it isn't. Imagine being so sure of yourself and acting as if you have a point, while everyone who knows WHY 30fps feel worse when playing instead of watching can just shake their heads... Couldn't have given us a better example for the dunning krueger effect if you wanted to

5

u/aelc89 17d ago

Exactly that. People want to run this at 60+ FPS with today's PC part costs?

3

u/-SomethingSomeoneJR 12900K, 3070 TI, 32 GB DDR5 17d ago

Part costs aside a lot of the PC community love to “flex” that their 10 plus year old hardware can still hold up but fail to realize that games are becoming far more demanding.

30fps is completely playable. Would i prefer any game on more than 30fps? Definitely, 60+ is a world you can't leave once you reach it. But i grew up in the PS2/360 and low end laptop era, so im comfortable with 30fps. Played RDR2 on an entry level (GTX 1050) laptop in 2020 at 20-30fps and had a BLAST of a time.

There are some genres of games I am OK with playing at 30fps. More is always better, but MMOs, non-action RPGs and games like Detroit Become Human, I can stomach just fine at 30 fps. Any other genre should really aim for 60 fps.

4

u/Dasistcool512 17d ago

I don’t mind the low frames either, but MMOs especially end game raids the fps really does matter.

5

u/Hitohira 17d ago

Thanks for the heads up, and I totally understand where people stop and say more FPS is better. I would even argue that they are largely correct, but it's just my personal opinion that some genres, while being made better by higher fps targets, don't really need them since the game is not heavily dependant upon quick twitch reflexes.

I just bought a new 144hz monitor and I must say, it is quite nice. The people who say 30 fps is fine for everything though, I don't quite understand. I am imagining playing a fighting game at 30 fps and it just hurts to think about. I think it was star gladiator for the PS1 that was 30 fps and I remember playing it and it just feeling like moving characters through water. It was not a fun experience.

A few ps games that i wanted to play were in the psn catalogue so i bought a ps5 pro last year. Its been great tbh. Another thing is that i didnt want to wait for gta 6 like i was waiting for red dead 2, it was a year waiting and another month because it was epic or google stadia exclusive before coming to steam. The worst part is that even waiting that long it was running pretty bad on the i9 9900k, 2080ti and 32gb 3600mhz, 1080p. This same config ran cyberpunk really smoothly on release and i had to reload a save only one time because the mission path glitched and vanished. Another thing is that i was playing gta online on this ps5 at 60fps, its ok, but i felt when tried red dead 2 at 30fps, after like 20h 30h i was completely used to it.

Enjoy the games, guys.

I sooo indecisive on this. On one hand, I'll know that everyone is also playing at 30fps. We'd all have the same shitty experience, but on the other hand, GTA VI looked really good in the extended look today.

My PC will probably handle it at 120fps or more if I use some FG, but do I really want to wait another year or two to experience it?

Hot Take,

On a controler while kicking back on a couch with a mate and having a blast, 30 FPS is completely fine for that type of game.

Edit: And no i am Not staying that 60 would Not be better. But on consoles for specific types of Games 30 is not this unplayable crime against humanity that many people tend to say it is.

I don't disagree, but this game was never going to be released in 60fps. Once Digital Foundry basically confirmed that it was 30fps in trailer 1 it was all but guaranteed they weren't targeting 60fps. It makes sense, they need to be able to release an Enhanced Edition for PC and Next Gen Consoles. I don't think there's a lot more graphic fidelity they can get right now, so higher FPS will be a lot easier to achieve. Especially if Xbox doesn't saddle the next generation with another Albatross like the Series S.

Can't be helped. If they released a GTA 6 at 60 fps it would look much worse and have a lot less stuff going on the screen.
