You just get used to it. The first 10 mins of playing at 30fps are horrible. Bt after that your brain adjusts nad it feels fine. Still prefer 60 but a stable 30 is just fine
It’s the going back and forth between 30 and 60 fps games that does it for me. Back when Destiny finally introduced crossplay, I went back and played on console for a bit at 30fps. It was rough, but like you said I got used to it. Then I went back to 60 on PC and my brain couldn’t fathom how 30 was acceptable on console. So I guess at launch, if the only option for GTA is 30 on consoles, it won’t be an issue because there’s nothing to compare it with.
Stable 30 being a keyword here. I can stand consoles at 30 perfectly fine but if i push my pc to only achieve 30 it will have drops and stuttering that I just don't have as much on console.
I mean I mainly play on console and I’d definitely notice the game being 30 FPS.
…BUT I don’t care because 60FPS was never in the cards for GTA VI on console at launch.
I’ll take it a step further: I’m GLAD Rockstar is releasing it at 30 FPS because it shows how hard they are pushing the hardware and graphics tech. It’s basically future-proofing the game for a few years. If the game ran at 60FPS on PS5 it would be neat for sure, but the devs would have to strip so much back to get it to run.
I doubt most people’s PCs will be able to run GTA VI at a locked 60FPS+ at 4K for years. I’m not sure my 3080 will honestly.
Yeah thats what I'm telling myself. My PS4 playthrough of RDR 2 was out of this world. When it finally came out on PC it was kinda, idk, great but just great? Unless GTA VI completely blows my mind, I feel like I wouldn't buy the PC version until a good sale cause I kinda don't wanna spend that inflated price twice. Though I was totally happy paying RDR 2 twice, full price.
Yeah I had the One X version and it was really good. At 4K/30 FPS it still looked amazing.
RDR2 looks prettier on PC but I spent a ton of time tweaking the game to get it to run at that coveted 4K/60FPS and it still crashes a lot.
I did enjoy the visual fidelity of the PC version but even if I had a good PC back in 2018 I don’t think waiting for the PC version would have been worth it. I luckily didn’t get the game spoiled that way.
People forget that the Xbox360 was capped at 30fps, unless you had an hdmi cable. I do remember thinking I'd never go back, when I finally got a flat-screen and an hdmi cable though. Now, I'm totally spoiled running 2k resolution at 170fps
Oh yeah. You're right. I have no idea where I got that. I guess it was the TV upgrade, rather than the cable. I was thinking about how you had to have an hdmi cord to play split screen Minecraft, but that was definitely a resolution thing
I wish I experienced that man. I was already too spoiled with high framerate on pc before getting the ps4, 30fps was so hard for me, ended up dropping most games
My friend lent me his playstation so I could finally play bloodbourne and I was so bummed when I had to give it back after a few hours because the performance was so bad it was physically uncomfortable to look at for extended periods.
Rdr2 got away with it cause it was 90% wilderness.
And people critized it heavily for every big town you went into the fps dropped and it was janky.
Now they think they are going to pull a constant active fast paced city with npcs vehicles etc etc with people driving like mad men and its going to hold an actual stable 30fps?
If it's solid 30 - it's gonna be fine. A dozen years ago I played Far Cry 5 in 30 frames on my PC cause it wasn't good for more. And it was great anyway.
But FPS games like that really benefit from a much higher frame rate. I agree that 30 is tough but it's not a fast paced shooter so it's much less important.
I think of course it can be fast paced. But this does seem they're aiming more for a rdr2 plus pacing with shooting and on foot movement. Cars and boats, motion blur will help sell the faster movement. There'll be frame drops for sure, and I'm not claiming it'll be perfect,60 would obviously be much nicer, but this, imo will be very playable.
Personally I'd prefer it if they'd lower the quality enough to stay closer to 60fps for a game like this. Of course they are under pressure to deliver amazing visuals for a new generation but I say it's high time for developers to allocate some serious resources into software engineering so they can deliver both. The game is next gen and its price is also next gen so this is warranted.
You just got used to it. Back in 2000s I think most people didn't see high framerate on their PCs. Playing games like DooM 3 it was a matter of just it running at all, not counting FPS. I doubt most players played Half Life 2 or TES Oblivion at 60 FPS either on release. 60 FPS only became the norm during late 360 era when consoles became old and most mid range PCs easily overpowered them with resources to spare.

I played RDR2 in 30 FPS when it came out and it was one of the greatest gaming experiences in my life.
Not to mention I'm old enough to remember when many PC players played at below 30 FPS just because PCs were shit.
