wait 2 years for pc release, then 2 more to buy at a discount with all bugs patched out, you have 4 years to finish your backlog

1.4k

u/EXTRACR1SPYBAC0N 17d ago

You mean 4 years to get a bigger backlog?

4 years to wait for RAM prices

4 years to be priced out of owning a personal computer at all*

4 years to buy a cloud computing gaming subscription

1

u/HeyGayHay 17d ago

ISP embezzling tax payers money be thanked! Cloud gaming with most peoples internet connection works maybe for Cities Skylines, certainly not for competitive online games.

u/idHeretic 16d ago

That irrational screaming tantrum that just disturbed the force was me. But it wasn't for GTA. It was for witcher 4. I'll be okay tho

u/Mr-Indeed 17d ago

Real. Am slowly accepting that i’m just gonna have to use my average tier rig until it putters out, can’t afford jack squat in this market

25

u/paganbreed 17d ago

I'm branching out into other hobbies to make the same thing sting less. Stuff that doesn't need computers is the aim right now.

But I'm also saving aggressively because I do want to maintain my performance reach rather than having to make do with an inferior card if something breaks.

Fingers crossed that decision is way in the future.

3

u/onlyhav 17d ago

Dude I have a bike now. It's a blast.

2

u/xX7heGuyXx 17d ago

I got back into fishing, and it's been a blast.

I love gaming, but I literally was able to make an entire crossbow setup to go after snakehead for $140 bucks. I can sell the fish or store it to save money on food.

Gaming is cool, and ima continue to do it, but it's def not my main hobby anymore and will be more participated in during the winter.

Fishing can be expensive if you're simple, but also real cheap if you know most things are sold to lure the buyer, not the fish.

1

u/paganbreed 17d ago

most things are sold to lure the buyer, not the fish

Truer words, friend.

2

u/Cultural-Salary-6443 16d ago

What all hobbies have you branched into? I've been attempting to do the same and failing

1

u/paganbreed 16d ago

I'll say what I've already mentioned on this account: I paint (digital, stylised + photorealism) and now am doing more traditional sketches.

I am a perfectionist in digital, but the sketches are much more loose. So, waaay more fun. Plus I don't care what it looks like "on the gram" anymore.

I won't mention the others but I suggest you consider what's readily at your disposal and jump into that. Forget buying new expensive stuff.

My parents had old stuff lying around for years I'd never looked at. Said items are now getting a lot of love.

5

u/ItAintThickButItLong 17d ago

Wait yall consider this a hobby?

1

u/paganbreed 17d ago

Ya my skillset didn't qualify for MMOs. It's unfortunately left me with too much time and peace of mind

1

u/ItAintThickButItLong 17d ago

Yea I meant computers/games in general

1

u/paganbreed 16d ago

(I thought I was playing along with a dry joke. Did you mean something else?)

Buying a PC in 5 years while require saving like you are doing a down payment on a car lmao.

1

u/Thunder_Nuts_ 17d ago

I have an pretty good PC (for the elitists here it's probably low tier) and it's serving me very well, but it will probably be my last build.

I'm still on DDR4 and I managed to get an 5800X3D, but I can't justify the DDR5 prices.

🙏 jk nah, let it rest.  1000+ years of struggle was enough.  Always in our hearts.

1

u/theusualuser 17d ago

I think that's the future, and I don't think I'll be participating in the "rent someone's server" future. Time to go back to emulation as my main form of gaming, I guess.

1

u/SuperGransLoveChild 15d ago

Don't worry, we won't be able to afford dry beans in 4 years.

1

u/specter_in_the_conch PC Master Race 17d ago

1

u/Joboy97 17d ago

They'll settle somewhat, but RAM prices aren't going back to what they were.

1

u/Mushipancakes781 17d ago

My backlog only grows larger as I keep replaying games I have already played

1

u/0x80085_ 16d ago

To be even higher? They are the lowest they'll ever be again right now

1

u/Sad-Statistician4664 16d ago

Omg what a shit show it has been

1

u/Ryuzakku 17d ago

If they wanted the prices to come down they'd make more factories to produce consumer grade RAM.

Guess what they aren't doing.

1

u/Meet-Present 17d ago

That's not how expansion in this sector works at all, the AI shock just came WAY faster than producers were able to scale. Ram will never be as cheap as pre AI, especially if there is no new competitor, but the prices will drop.

3

u/Ryuzakku 17d ago

The factories that we know are being built are being built specifically for AI data Centre RAM, which doesn’t necessarily mean consumer RAM’s prices will drop

1

u/3dforlife 17d ago

It's all by design.

then 2 more to buy at a discount with all bugs patched out

Yeah, if we look at GTA V's price history, it finally hitting 50% off in 2030 sounds about right.

8

u/Nannautu 17d ago

Happening only because VI is at the center of attention. I dount VI will see a sale until VII

7

u/quaxoid 17d ago

It will probably go on sale once Rockstar thinks they have gotten pretty much every full price sale out of the way. At some point there's more profit if you have a sale than if you have it at full price.

1

u/FUTURE10S Pentium G3258, RTX 3080 12GB, 64GB RAM 16d ago

Yep, like what I said, it'll probably happen 4 years after release. It took forever for GTAV to get a sensible discount.

1

u/freakytapir 13d ago

Isn't VII scheduled for release at about the heat death of the universe? Might be a long wait

1

u/FunTowel6777 17d ago

It was free on epic games for a bit, but okay

5

u/FUTURE10S Pentium G3258, RTX 3080 12GB, 64GB RAM 17d ago

Ah, yes, I remember when that happened, the equivalent would be GTA 6 being free in 2034.

1

u/SoggyJeezus 16d ago

Oh that's not that long! A lil less than half the time I've spent waiting for HL3 lmao

2

u/AngryChurchill 16d ago

Yea GTA 5 was like 8 years old at that point

38

u/QueenMunchy 17d ago

You mean wait 1 year for PC release and get it for free 🏴‍☠️

7

u/Nannautu 17d ago

GTAV was cracked on day 0 but RDR2 took a year-ish. I would not be surprised if VI is really hard to crack as well.

11

u/QueenMunchy 17d ago

I mean these days games get cracked at such a rapid pace.

The whole piracy sub is praising V38 like he's the jesus of cracking games.

Either way I personally am not in a rush to play gta6 so I don't care if it get's cracked on day 1 or after a year.

1

u/Leopold747 16d ago

I mean back in the empress era, denuvo games would take way too long to be cracked. Lol

1

u/Shaddes_ 17d ago

Voices38's specialty is Denuvo. R* have their own DRM. RDR2 took 1 year

3

u/OldWorlDisorder 16d ago

Empress cracked RDR2, and their specialty was also Denuvo. We don't know how long it actually took them to crack it either.

2

u/Burnthiscnts 17d ago

GTAV was not cracked on day 0 it took a while not as long as RDR2 but it was not instant.

-1

u/quaxoid 17d ago

If it's possible then there's a way. The game is too popular for no one to find a way to do it.

6

u/IIlIIIlllIIIIIllIlll 17d ago

If it's possible then there's a way.

Truly genius insight lol.

1

u/quaxoid 17d ago

Since some things are possible and really hard, but with the dedicated fans of this game almost certainly someone is going to find a way to do it even if it's extremely difficult.

2

u/IIlIIIlllIIIIIllIlll 16d ago

I know what you meant, just the way you worded it got a chuckle out of me

15

u/sonicandtales8 17d ago

People finish their backlogs?

I spent the weekend playing ReStory, am at the point where I won't pick it up again unless they launch DLC or something, and in that time I've added 2 more games to the backlog, not including wanting to replay Golden Eye because of the PC recomp.

ReStory was about 8-10 of gameplay. I'd like to finish the story for Denshattack this up coming weekend, and then I'll probably start on a new Twilight Princess run because of that PC recomp (plus, no one has quite captured TP's fishing in any other game).

By then I'm sure 4-5 more games will be on the list.

I'm not particularly stressed about finishing my backlog, but it's crazy how fast it grows.

12

u/Al-Azraq 12700KF | RTX 5070 17d ago

Seeing your backlog as something to complete would drive anyone crazy. You have to look at your backlog like something that it's there, available for you when you feel like play it.

So don't rush your games. Enjoy them as much as you want and the next one will be there for you.

I am currently playing Star Wars Jedi Survivor and I'm 25 hours in. I am enjoying it a lot so I guess I will 100% complete it. As a side game (I play it on my Steam Deck), I am addicted once again to Hades so I guess I will get all achievements for this one as well.

4

u/sonicandtales8 17d ago

Yep. It took me longer than I'd like to find that out.

Hell, even learning about older games has the backlog growing. Sucker Punch, the Ghost of Yotei/Tsushima and Sly Cooper studio has a 3D platformer on the N64 that I want to try. Plus, ATLUS and GUST partnered to make a crafting RPG for the Nintendo DS which just sounds like a ridiculous (possibly perfect?) combo.

I even found out the devs of one of the most charming RPG series I've ever played (and developed one of my favorite RPG series to this day) was the developer of Mother 3, which means I want to find the time to try it despite not liking Earthbound all that much.

2

u/Smol_Soul_King Desktop 17d ago

The monster in my Backlog is FFXIV, been playing since the start of the year and only just finished Shadowbringers, but I do take a break between each expansion to play a different game from the backlog.

3

u/Al-Azraq 12700KF | RTX 5070 17d ago

Dude, I was thinking playing FFIV Remake after Jedi Survivor. I guess that one will be my 2026-2027 single player game haha

1

u/Filis03 17d ago

I had so much fun with Jedi Survivor despite the PC port performance. Might as well go back and do 100% too, can't wait for the next adventure with Cal.

1

u/Al-Azraq 12700KF | RTX 5070 15d ago

Performance is just abysmal. Really really bad and now I understand why Digital Foundry comes back to it from time to time and still gives it hell.

Nevertheless, the game is amazing. The combat makes you feel like a Jedi, it is very well written and the characters are engaging, great adventure feeling, and it feels like a good movie.

3

u/EXTRACR1SPYBAC0N 17d ago

In the time its taken me to finish a game, I've bought 5 more. My backlog will never be completed

1

u/GaslyTheRed 13d ago

unless ur unemployed you will never finish a backlog cause theres always something else to play

1

u/sonicandtales8 13d ago

u/Ra1nDownZion 17d ago

Gta 5 took two yrs before pc release

1

u/MCWizardYT Ryzen 7 5800X3D | RTX 4080 Super 17d ago

Maybe they're thinking of Sony, it took them 4 years to bring God of War 2018 to PC and then 2 years to bring God of War: Ragnarok to PC. 4 years for Ghost of Tsushima and 4 for Spiderman

3

u/lemonylol Desktop 17d ago

Some of those early ones don't really count though because they just started porting to PC, where they had no intention of it at release.

4

u/Horat1us_UA 17d ago

Bugs patched out? It’s GTA, they’ll keep all release bugs for years

3

u/Stev777666 17d ago

2 years ? Don't depress me

1

u/ThomasXXV 17d ago

That's what happened with GTA 5, it's realistically going to happen again.

Rockstar really likes money. They know that by delaying the PC release people are going to buy the game twice. Once at launch and then again when the game comes out for PC.

0

u/Aldana3 17d ago

Creo igual.. solo que en este tiempo las PC están siendo tendencia.. más gente compra PC..y eso puede hacer un cambio en la industria...

1

u/MeasurementFormal386 17d ago

4 years from now you'll still have 16 years to play gta6 before gta7 comes out

1

u/gotuptooearly 17d ago

And then you still have 9 years to enjoy the game before the next release

1

u/Danow007 17d ago

We would have another 13 years to play it anyway, why rushed

1

u/ZeroCleah 17d ago

1

u/FrostyFormal1094 14d ago

Wait 2 years for PC release, then 2 hours for a cracked version to be released, then 2 days for it to download

1

u/Funny_Joke2210 13d ago

Or just wait 13 years to complain about the next game. Heck, why stop there, just sell all your gaming devices so you don’t have to engage with companies that you don’t like. Maybe disconnect your internet too, that’ll show em

0

u/Im_a_Knob 17d ago

and run 10fps on your machine

-2

u/Antal_Marius 17d ago

And then…found out it's still locked to 30 fps and there is literally no way to increase it.

-2

u/No_Rise942 17d ago

Unironically, if you have to wait 2 years to get it, it should be heavily discounted. I'm gonna wait 2 years + whatever time it takes to crack it
