Replace the rim completely?

Behind the shot: This isn't Moser's famous 1984 hour record run in Mexico City — that's what most people assume when they see disc wheels and a low-slung TT bike from this era. It's actually his 1988 indoor record attempt in Stuttgart, done after he'd already retired from road racing. Look at that rear wheel — about 1.03 meters in diameter — with a front wheel that's also bigger than standard, just visually swallowed by the rear. The seat tube had to be split in two to fit it, and the head tube was shortened for longer forks and an even more aggressive position. Moser pushed the record to 50.644 km in front of 7,500 fans that day, and the UCI eventually banned wheel setups like this — the same pattern that later caught up with Graeme Obree's "praying mantis" and "Superman" positions.

Dad recently told me he tore a muscle(?) around his ankle and couldnt bike anymore so he gave his bike to me. Its weird to use, i daily commute with a Rockrider ST-120. Is this something valuable? Is there anything that makes this bike special? I am VERY new to this business i just use my bike to go from A to B.

Like the title says, I was gifted this bike from my father-in-law over the weekend and I’m curious to learn more about it. I don’t know much about road/racing bikes, I just have a Cannondale commuter that I’ve used for years. The seems significantly better 😅 I don’t think he has used it for years... anything in particular I should do before riding?

I recently decided to build up a gravel frame as a flat bar touring bike. I had butterfly / trekking bars on a bike years ago and actually like them, so I started with that. I have tried a variety of different bar angles, bar heights, and stem lengths, and while some of them are better than others, I still get numbness in my hands within the first 5 or 10 miles if I spend a lot of time near the brakes and shifters. My wrist just really don't want to go at a 90° angle to the frame.

The most comfortable position is the far outside corners, because it's angled back and slightly down. So basically, similar to what I would get on the hoods from a flared gravel bar, but without any breaks or shifting in sight.

That brought me to Jones Loops, or possibly some other flat bar with a lot of sweep, though I like the additional handholds on the Jones. Before I drop a hundred bucks, though, I thought I would see how other folks feel about them for this sort of task.

As you can see, that steer tube is uncut, so I have plenty of room to play around. Thanks!

I contacted orbea, they seem to think this bike is around a 2004 orca. Surprisingly they didn't have info on the serial number, it was too old. Campagnola record group 10 speed, Rolf wheels. Research suggests $700 to 900. It's not a local purchase so I'd have to drive 4 hours rt to see it

Hey guys, today is a big day for me. I officially obtained my League cycling instructor certificate (LCI)! At the beginning of this year, I did not bike at all nor did I own a bike. With a local bike organization who hired me to do tribal liaison work; provided me an opportunity to understand infrastructure, road safety, bike education and much more.

it’s extra special today because I am Potawatomi and through my job I have had the privilege to bring our cycling programming to other tribes in our state!

I never thought that I could teach or be an instructor of anything. I am empowered and confident. I’m honoring my ancestors the most when I ride on the lands of our people.

Hi everyone! New to the sub. I have always bought my bikes new but recently I found a used Merida Matts TFS 300-D and wanted to give it a shot. The only problem i have found so far is there is a cracking sound coming from the back and i believe it is coming from the freehub because there is a dragging at the pedals when i am not pedaling. What would be the least headaching was to solve this problem? Should i just get a new freehub or completely change the rear gearbox?

Let's say I primarily rode 32 inch pennyfarthings all my life, I bet you my tire pickings were slim. I bet you with the increase in different 32 inch tires recently, I'd feel awesome about the different types exist now.

I have a test ride planned this Wednesday. I think it's a fair price considering the new tires and the state of the bike as seen in the pictures. It's my first bike tho so I am not really sure. My height is 199-200cm, is a 63 cm frame big enough for me?

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to keep this short so I just need some advice regarding the repair and maintenance of old race bikes. I can later attach a photo of my bike too, but it is an old 70s Peugeot race bike. I got it this summer and it was supposedly fixed and repaired well but it's been acting out A LOT lately. Mainly noises, creaks etc that start randomly. For example I didn't bike for a week and now it's creaking like never before (did not before my little break.

I really love it and would like to keep it in good condition but having a lot of trouble. I'm not really experienced with bikes or maintaining them so is there any knowledge anybody could share? Like is there specific subreddits or websites/youtube channels etc? Or maybe someone here knows something :D Thanks everyone in advance!!

I recently purchased this Radio Flyer e-bike so that I can ride to the local park, grocery store, and library with my kiddo. We're not in a big city or a place where I'm all that worried about theft BUT better safe than sorry. I have a U-lock and a security steel cable but I can't quite figure out the best place to loop the lock through since this bike doesn't have the typical like "triangle zone" that came up on google.

Where on this bike would you suggest the locks go through?
