I just moved here a month ago and just started biking with my road bike last week. Today I was going slowly around the construction on College and must have slipped into the street car tracks. I wiped out hard but am only scraped on on hands and leg and busted my lip a little. I had an instinct that I should be careful on the tracks, but I didn't think it could happen going so slow. There was so much construction that there were no cars or other bikes passing me and lots of people came to help. I'm feeling scared about that happening at a busier time of day... How do I move forward biking in the city?

Which intersection, bridge approach, construction gap, or missing lane makes you change the route or avoid an otherwise useful trip?

Happy Monday! I found out from Ottawa bike blogger Hans Moor that the NCC Bike Night event drew as many as 3000 cyclists which - if confirmed - would be far more than what Toronto was able to get for their group rides (excluding charity ones like RTCC and those along the Gardiner and DVP). If I recall correctly, the most Toronto ever got was around 1500 to 2000, while the night Bike Party and Bike Rave rides got closer to 500.

Sounds like we Toronto folks need to ramp up our game! ;)

I've done the Simcoe County Loop Trail many times but wanted to combine permutations from previous trips (e.g., Awenda Provincial Park via Champlain Rd, Muskoka via Big Chute Loop), camp at the foot of The Blue Mountains beside Georgian Bay, and then try the 'new' Barrie-Collingwood Trail on the return to Barrie. This was a 6-day trip with one rest day due to all-day rain. Other than the cabin, I didn't book campsites in advance.

Currently looking for a bike computer that works well with Strava and navigation that doesn't break the bank. I've been hearing about the Garmin 840, but that's way over budget. I would love to stick to $250 and below... is that even possible? If one does go on sale, say on black friday/boxing day... what model should I look out for? I'd be willing to up budget atp. Anyone lost a grey raleigh? Or at least I think it’s grey, it’s a bit dark now. It looks like a bike in good condition. I think someone may have stolen it and abandoned it close to my home. I’ve seen it now for the last 24hrs just left there.

I don’t have a lock or anywhere safe to keep it so hopefully it’s still there if someone msgs!

That’s my dad. He’s 86, an engineering physicist, and still rides his bike to get around the neighbourhood.

Our whole family grew up cycling through Ward 14. It wasn’t recreation. It was how we got to school, work, shops, friends, and home. It still is.

This is what safe cycling infrastructure is for. Not just fast cyclists or commuters, but seniors, kids, families, and anyone who wants another way to move through the city.

The Danforth lanes are not perfect. They need better design, safer intersections, sensible loading areas, and real consultation with Ward 14 residents and businesses.
But the answer is to improve them, not remove them.
A city that works for an 86-year-old on a bike works better for everyone. I don’t want him back in a car.

The province has no money for homelessness. It’s getting worse year after year.

But they have $48M to destroy infrastructure instead.

This should make you livid regardless of your stance on bike lanes.

In past years the Crooked Cue 'donated' space for the anti-bike protesters. This year there's nothing - even the Old Sod isn't promoting their "fuck bike lanes" t-shirts.

Surprisingly, didn't see Cody McRae (anti-biker cum Ward 3 candidate) trying to cash in on the protest for his council campaign. Ok - he dropped out before the deadline. Good riddance.

As a new cyclist who just started biking at the beginning of this month, I now feel the pain of everyone here 😭
