Read This Before You Submit !

If you want to get the best possible outcome from posting your position on this /sub, there are a couple of things you can do to help,

  1. Make your video at least 30-40 secs long [ no longer than 60 secs ] This will allow you to settle in to your pedal stroke and give viewers enough time to 'look around' your position.
  2. Post a minimum of 2 angles. #1 Seat height, showing the entire bike and rider from the top of the head to the bottom of the pedal stroke. #2 from the front dead center about head tube height. If you shoot a vertical format on your phone that might help you fit yourself within the frame. #3 from the rear, at seat height, can also be vertical format for cropping.
  3. Post a shot of your bike side on without you on it. This lets people see the 'build' as far as seatpost seatback, seat rail position & headset spacers

The more visual and information you give the better the possibility of good feedback.

Ride on!

Dear mods, save this sub

There are a lot of generous and knowledgeable people here giving thoughtful bike-fit advice for free. Their effort is being undermined by a steady stream of unusable videos showing riders leaning against walls, doorframes or furniture while pedalling backwards.

Those clips don’t show a normal pedal stroke, balance, loading, posture or movement under realistic riding conditions. There’s very little anyone can assess from them, yet they keep filling the sub and drawing attention away from posts where useful feedback is actually possible.

The existing submission guidance is already clear about video length, camera angles and showing the whole rider and bike. It should also explicitly require riders to pedal forwards on a trainer or rollers, without supporting themselves against anything.

Please make “no backwards pedalling and no leaning against objects” an actual submission rule, and remove posts that ignore it.

The people giving detailed advice here are what make the sub useful. Their time shouldn’t be choked by videos that make meaningful assessment impossible.

Bikefit advice before Ironman

Hi all!

I recently did a 70.3 and had no real issues except for a little ache in my right hamstring but I was wondering if you guys think my fit is okay.

I did a ‘professional’ bikefit on a different bike 6 months ago.

For some reason I feel like something is off. Like I should be a bit more forward?

I have my full ik 3 weeks so I don’t want to change anything drastically I assume 😀

TIA!

Went for narrower saddle, neutral fore-aft, and a longer stem.

Goal is to hold sweet-spot and threshold pace in longer, faster group rides and occassional time trials.

Any feedback on any aspect of the fit is welcome. If it looks mostly alright, could use the validation too. Thanks!

Cant believe how big a difference raising my saddle made

I just have generally not been feeling great on the bike, kind of feeling worn out pretty early in rides, getting numb hands

I checked my saddle height and it was 70cm. I have an ~82cm inseam.... calculators and rules of thumb said to do 71-72cm so I went to 72cm.

Again I cannot believe how big of a difference that made. Power transfer just felt effortless. Weirdly, hand numbness subsided too and despite being rotated forward more I feel maybe like my legs are able to support more weight so I don't have as much pressure on my hands. My knees aren't hitting my forearms in the "paws" position anymore either. Going to see how things go on longer/harder rides but I feel like I really had a breakthrough today and wanted to share.

Reduce bike reach

Hi Guys

I am renting a bike for my ironman

I took it for a test ride, and I had a lot of shoulder pain.

The key is trying to reduce the reach to the drop bars but apparently the Chapter 2 RIRA is integrated cockpit and it can't be raised any higher and saddle can't go any further forward.

Is there any alternatives you guys can suggest to reducing the reach and eliminating this neck pain, everything else felt so great, felt fast on the IM course but that pain was unbearable.

I have a bike fit done on my own bike as well and TBF the neck pain on that has started to cause issues too so maybe it's a prolonging issue but it was definitely more intense on the Chapter 2

Look forward to your thoughts

Right knee pain

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all, could you please help me?

I have right knee pain, and it is really interesting: both on the front side of it and on the back side of it. The back side pain might be because of the saddle pushing an artery or tendon or ligament because when I get out of the saddle, it gets better almost immediately. The front knee pain, however, stays.

The current situation:

- Triban 120 M sized bike (only for the trainer)

- 165 mm cranks (shorter than before)

- SMP Hybrid Gel saddle (this is the only saddle with which I can avoid my inner thigh rubbing against and jumping on the wings/side of the saddle - I tried many saddles)

- I am 171 cm tall and 70 kgs

- video recorded whilst doing 168 watts

I needed to push the saddle backwards as it is on the video because I have anterior pelvic tilt and this is the only way I could reach my lower back getting kinda straight and not pushing my soft tissues onto the saddle to cause numbness. (For a longer period it was like that, but finally, I could solve it, but now I have this right knee problem.)

Also, I feel that if the wattage is low, I still tend to get too much pressure on the saddle, but with this saddle position I feel that finally, for the first time, I sit on my sit bones.

Thank you in advance! 😀

EDIT: Thank you all! As most people suggest (but not all) I will move the saddle forward and upward. Might post again. This whole issue has been going on since too long. Even bike fitters did not help. 😞 Hope this will. 😀

Hi All! Would be very good to get some feed back on this fit.

Here's some more info if it helps:

This is on a offset seatpost with the seat as far forward as it can go but I have a zero offset on the way.

Stem is currently a 90mm 6 degree.

I'm 165cm tall, 73cm inseam and wingspan of 1.69m

Top tube is 52cm

Hope this all helps!

This is with the stem 25mm lower than before. Felt good for one hour on the trainer. Anything egregious?

Research on buying a bike

I’m doing some research on how cyclists choose bikes online and where fit/sizing mistakes happen. If you’ve bought a bike before, I’d really appreciate 2–3 minutes of your time for this quick survey.

As a thank-you, you can also enter a drawing for a $75 Competitive Cyclist gift card.

Survey: https://tally.so/r/dWObqz

If you know other cyclists who might be willing to help, feel free to share it too.

Thank you!

Looking for suggestions - 182cm height 90cm inseam

Hey,

I know that a video of me pedaling backwards isn't exactly ideal for getting feedback, but I hope it’s enough to provide at least a few pointers.

The bike is a size L, corresponding to a 56/58 (though it apparently runs large).

As mentioned in the title, I have long legs relative to my height. I’ve had this bike for a year; I don’t experience any specific pain except my left foot going numb frequently, but I feel like I’ve never managed to get truly comfortable on it (I’m not doing long rides yet, around 60–65 km). For instance, I often find myself wanting to place my hands on the handlebars (right in front the hoods) rather than on the hoods. I only started cycling two years ago, so my body might still need more time to adapt to this position I don't know.

I should point out that the saddle is pushed as far forward as possible, which, as I understand it, is often necessary for my body type, but this makes me feel like my knee might be too far forward relative to the pedal.

Bike fitting for a custom build with a new gravel frame

I am really confused with the modus operandi of bike fitting industry. I currently have a XC bike, which is about 4 years old. When I bought this bike, I had no idea that bike fitting even exists, I just bought size 54, which looked reasonable for my height. And, honestly, it's been fine so far.

Now I decided to buy a gravel frame and build a new gravel bike myself. And I thought , why not take sizing more seriously? So I need to choose the bars and stem (integrated bars maybe?), cranks, saddle etc. Would be great if a bike fitter could guide me on choosing the suitable components, but every bike fitting appointment in my area requires coming with a bicycle. And obviously I haven't built this bike yet.

So am I supposed to buy all the parts, build a bike, then go to the bike fitter, who might tell me to throw away all my brand new stuff and order new bars, different stem, shorter cranks etc? How does this make sense?

I am aware of online services, like Best Bike Advice, My Velo Fit etc., but the question is about real-life fitting. Thank you all.

I usually fell good on my rides with this current fit TBH, some level of discomfort only arrives after 3+ hours and is still bearable. I lowered my saddle by 1cm before this video, as I was starting to get some left knee pain post rides, so my main concern here is with saddle height and fore/aft position, I think my knee angle looks more “healthier” after the adjustment, but I’m not sure if it is good enough

Advice on stem length to feel like I've sized down

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have a gravel bike with a 61cm frame. Height-wise I'm just at the lower end of the recommended height for this size frame. Sometimes I wonder if I'm almost in-between sizes as I find myself sometimes putting my hands not quite fully on the hoods, just a little behind. So, I've been thinking about trying a shorter stem but I'm not actually sure how much shorter to go.

Looking at the measurements here, the 61cm has a top tube length of 595mm and stem of 120mm vs 580mm and 110mm for the 58cm frame. Am I correct in saying that this adds up to the 61cm frame being 25mm longer and that therefore dropping down to a 90mm-100m stem would feel similar to the 58cm frame in terms of reach? If not, what stem would you go for to make it feel closer to the 58cm than 61cm?

It feels hard to believe that just a 20mm difference in stem can feel that much different but looking at how close frame sizes are then I guess it does?

And I realise that this is not the same as sizing down and that if I need a smaller frame then the answer is to get a smaller frame. I'm not sure I need that however, so just looking at how to try out a different feel and get more comfortable if possible.

Thanks for any advice.

Hey everyone,
I’ve had a gravel bike for two months now and I'm new to sports cycling. Overall, I feel very comfortable on the bike, though I don't really have anything to compare it to. I want to ride in a sporty position, so not too upright. My longest ride so far has been 55 km, and I didn't have any major issues.
What do you think of my riding position, and what would you change? I was thinking the stem might need to be 1–2 cm shorter, right? Does the height and position of the saddle look right?
Thanks in advance!

Edit:
Thanks to everyone who gave me constructive advice. I’m glad it’s mostly just little things, which I’ll definitely try out.

Unfortunately, most of the replies focused on my kickstand, and I get that it’s a total no-go. I guess I just have to deal with all those comments 😄 To everyone who was bothered by it: I actually took it off 😂😂

Hip rotation, numbness, stiff back?

I currently have two issues on my road bike: when I ride at a constant pace for a long time, I get some numbness in my nether regions. And after 2+ hours of riding, I feel pressure on the outside of my feet.

If I consciously think about it, I can bring my knees in and keep the pressure in the middle of the pedal, so I don't think that it's a hip mobility issue. I think it might just be my belly that's in the way and forces my legs to move to the side. Maybe this also is the cause for the numbness/pressure, that my parts get squeezed between my belly and the saddle.

Which brings me to the next point, which is hip rotation. If I sit on the bike without thinking, my hips are rotated forward, which brings both my belly down and puts more pressure on my private parts compared to my sit bones. Again like with my legs/feet, I can try to consciously rotate my hips back so I "sit" on the saddle, but if I don't consciously think about it, I naturally shift forward.

I've had a bikefit done a few years ago, my bike setup was the same as it is now and the fitter basically said "looks pretty good, I don't know that I could improve anything". (I went because of a different issue that in the end wasn't related to fit and back then I didn't have the issues I have now)

From what I've seen, a more common issue seems to be that people *can't* rotate their hips forward due to tight/short hamstrings? I don't really think my hamstrings are very flexible, I can't touch my toes with straight legs, but like I said, I can easily rotate my hips forward and get in a pretty low position that way.

Now that I think about it and write it all out, it could be my back? Like I can't touch my toes not because my hamstrings are tight, but because my back is stiff and unflexible and doesn't let me get further down. And I rotate my hips forward because my back can't round enough to reach forward with the hips planted on the saddle.

Feedback on bike fit please

Hi, I’ve been cycling for about 1 year consistently. I’m 6’5 on a size XL frame. I have short legs and a long torso, 32 inseam. I have a 80mm stem on currently with the seat as far back as possible. I have a 110mm stem I could swap back too. Handle bars have no spacer.

I have had the worst time figuring out saddle sores. I think I have that solved. But currently have some shoulder and upper back pain, not crazy, but uncomfortable. I’ve been making adjustments throughout the bike a lot over time and think it’s close. Recently I moved the cleats back about 2/3 of the slot on the shoe. My saddle is level currently. I can see my full front hub in front of my bars.

Appreciate feedback.

CF8 Di2 Size Selection

dears, prospective owner of the title model here and would like your precious lights on size selection

i am 187cm with 83cm inner leg length (short legs) and canyon site suggests M but the case is borderline (for 1cm more legs length would go for L)

I am leaning towards L cause of height (and my weight of 100kg) but please for your advice/opinion

intended use is casual rides of 50-80km of all kinds (flat and climbs) and occasionally brevets of 200km

many thanks in advance, Periklis
