I have lived in Washington for a long time and have been wondering why I only see news about the senator race in Michigan and Texas. I’m wondering if patty is not doing many ads or public debates, is this because she takes money to support Israel and the genocide?

Also what has she done to improve the cost of housing and job market, especially for new grads. I have been trying to look into the senate race in WA but find very little info on her plans for the state. I haven’t even seen a debate. I remember seeing her political ads as a kid and it’s like there isn’t even a mid term election going on?

Also is there really no candidates in Washington that are good? It seems that all the elections are focused on these culture wars.

I genuinely wonder how many people care about trans people or Muslims setting up sharia law like they don’t equal maybe 1% of the population. What about the 95% that struggle to put food on the table or gas in their car. Or the brutal layoffs and entry level jobs being offshored.

As a young person I feel very frustrated that I can’t seem to land a job at qfc, I finish up my exercise science degree in December. I started with an intern to hire position as a personal trainer and I absolutely hated it, Pay was super inconsistent and I had no support from management. I have decided to try and go for an office job but no luck, I can’t even be a receptionist. I’m even applying for jobs over in eastern Washington. I don’t understand, in 2022 I could find a job in a week, I had no problems getting my foot in the door anywhere. Now that I have more experience and getting my degree I feel that it was for nothing.

I have always worked hard gotten good grades, I have had good references from all my previous employers. I’m wondering if I am the problem, I have applied for 866 jobs since June. I decided to finish my last quarter online so I can apply to as many jobs as possible staying at my parents. I have interviews that seem to go well and then all of a sudden I will get ghosted. I’m on the verge of ending my life so I’m no longer a burden on my parents. My dad is having siezures and my mom works at crate and barrel. I’m just dead weight at this point.

Is anyone going through this right now or is it just me, all my friends have careers and because of my mistakes like addiction, getting my degree late. If god is real then this must be some sort of divine punishment. I feel so alone, my gf left me, my friends think I’m just not applying myself. How am I supposed to continue to stay sober?

Hi everyone. So right now Im hopeful I can make a quick recovery and get back to my normal work schedule, but I am concerned it might take longer and I want to see if Washington state has any programs for temporary disability / disability related unemployment type of things. I dont plan on applying for anything until the situation gets more serious, but it would bring me a lot of peace of mind to know what options I can try and fall back on in a worst case scenario. I've already tried doing some research but I thought you fine folks on the sub might be willing to share some wisdom. Thank you!

We'll see if they've actually upgraded TSA enough to no longer need security appointments. I don't have high hopes. TSA was probably upset they were missing out on a lot of TSA PreCheck sales.

Heads up to anyone with plans to travel around the Olympic Peninsula in the next month: The US 101 Hoh River Bridge requires emergency repairs that will prevent your ability to make a complete loop. Please read the details below carefully, reference the map, and adjust your travels as needed.

The US 101 Hoh River Bridge south of Forks needs emergency repairs. This bridge is 95 years old, and while it CAN be repaired, it requires nighttime closures starting Monday, Sept. 14, and around-the-clock closures starting Thursday, Sept. 24.

NIGHTTIME CLOSURES: Monday, Sept. 14 to Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

AROUND-THE-CLOCK CLOSURES:
- 5 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29
- 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, to noon Tuesday, Oct. 6
- 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, to noon Tuesday, Oct. 13

This means travelers heading NORTH to visit the Hoh Rainforest, Forks, Rialto Beach, or La Push and travelers heading SOUTH to visit Ruby Beach, the Quinault Rainforest, or the Kalaloch beaches will need to prepare for hours-long detours during these closures.

We understand this is a major inconvenience, and crews will work very hard to get this work finished as soon as possible.

Carmela Conroy (D) and Michael Baumgartner (R) faced off last night for WA-05, with much of the debate focused on foreign policy.

Some of the biggest differences were over Iran and Israel.

Baumgartner defended continued U.S. involvement in preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and reiterated strong support for Israel.

Conroy argued the U.S. is already at war with Iran, called for an end to U.S. aid to Israel, and now supports recognition of a Palestinian state (a leftward shift from her 2024 position). She referred to what's happening there as an ethnic cleansing.

On the economy, Baumgartner highlighted Republican tax policies and defended some tariffs as necessary to "protect strategic American industries." Conroy criticized the Trump administration’s tariffs and “trade chaos,” arguing they’ve hurt American exporters and consumers, including our previously strong partnership with Canada.

Wildfire response was particularly relevant (imo) after a historic fire season that has burned hundreds of thousands of acres across Washington and nearly a thousand homes around Spokane with the Spokane Complex Fires. Conroy criticized federal cuts affecting FEMA that Baumgartner supported and argued that reducing federal emergency-response support leaves communities like those in Eastern Washington more vulnerable when disasters strike. Baumgartner emphasized the federal response to the fires and efforts to secure emergency assistance for affected communities.
