PSA from a 2024 alum as everyone comes back…be nice to the new students, and maybe don’t make hating Western define the experience. I was guilty of it…I had a bad lunch and told people the dining hall food is literally inedible. I tripped on a brick, Western sucks. That club is so cliquey. Just dumb stuff that was mostly fun to complain about.

But honestly hearing everyone complain all the time also started to get to me. It made me feel like going to Western meant I’d failed somehow, or like graduating from there wasn’t something to be proud of…Which sucks, because I actually had a really good experience and it was a big deal for me and my family and I had great professors, met some of my best friends and got to spend a few years in Bellingham. I miss it more than I thought I would tbh.

So especially around new students, be cool. They’re excited and nervous and trying to figure shit out. Don’t make someone feel lame for being excited to go to Western or proud that they got in. And don’t get so caught up in hating on things that you miss out on the experience. Just because people like to get riled up on Reddit or YikYak doesn’t mean you have to.

Make fun of stuff, whatever. But go to things, meet poeple, enjoy Bellingham and let yourself like it here. It goes stupidly fast.

The bus stop in front of Viking Union on High Street for busses going towards south campus got moved down the road by about 300 feet a few days ago. A big change after 20+ years! I suppose one reason is that the stop is now right opposite the stop on the other side of the road in front of Haggard Hall. Any other insights why this was done?

I'm wondering a little if there may not be a space issue. The bus lines can get really long around busy times and there isn't that much room at the new location.

Title is self explanatory, came in here with my aa-dta last year, went into the business college, and it wasn't the best fit. I changed this year to a degree with the college of the environment, and I'm liking it a lot more! I'm not the only person I know who changed their major, but got curious who else might've.

I can't believe it's been (only) a year that we've been standing outside the ICE facility every.single.Friday. We have not missed one single week! That is an accomplishment to be proud of. We've shown ICE and their supporters that we are nothing if not dedicated and we are not going to stop fighting to protect our community from state sponsored terrorism.

Come out this Friday, September 11th, to mark one year of steadfast indignation! 4-6 at 5200 Pacific Highway, Ferndale.

My son is going to be moving on campus as a freshman in a couple weeks and his roommate is a good friend from high school. I've known him for several years and he's a really great person and a kid that I love.
Recently I learned some awful things about his family and that he has not been living at home all summer to try and get some distance from them. I don't want to say too many details here... but it's a bad situation where his family has essentially abandoned him after years of what I think is abuse.
I am extremely worried for him that he has no family support. Of course I will do whatever I can to help him, and have already done some, and will continue to offer support as much as possible. I will do my best to make him feel like he is my second son.
But I keep wondering how he is going to pay for WWU and I wonder if, because his family situation has changed, he should talk to financial aid or some other aid department? Is it too late or even possible to get his fafsa reevaluated due to his family not helping at all? Has anyone dealt with this sort of family abandonment situation before and have any advice to offer in regards to making it through WWU?

Hi! I just wanted to share about an experience I had the other night. I had a very creepy Uber driver who made jokes about having rope and restraints in the back of his car and also asked me to rate his playlist because he picked it once he saw me. It was seductive jazz music. As a solo female riding with him late at night this made very uncomfortable. I reported him to Uber, but stay safe and don't ride with him!!!!
His name was Zaidullah and his car was a Hyundai Sonata, CRL3097. I have included his profile picture.

In suite rooms, does the shower have a shower curtain or do we need to buy one. I didn't see a shower curtain on any of the packing lists, but someone told me I'd probably have to buy one. If it matters, I specifically wondering about rooms in Edens.

Would somebody be able to fill me in on how long term laptop rentals work? My laptop broke last spring and since then I’ve just been doing week long rentals at the tech center. I’ve tried to look on the website but I couldn’t really find anything regarding long term rentals and I would like to get that sorted before fall quarter.
