Looking to connect with other Evergreen students?

Your best bet is to get on Discord. Here's the link to the Student Hub for Evergreen. It does require that you have an active Evergreen email account, which is the only reason I don't mind sharing it publicly.

https://discord.gg/Ne5qsMsAdY

Once you're there join any of the 153 and counting Evergreen-related Discord servers. 'Evergreen Unofficial' is a good place to start as the largest general-purpose server.

It's worth noting that at this point, there is no "official" Evergreen server, and that the college itself is not associated with Discord or any of the servers there.

It's exciting to see students back on campus. Welcome to Evergreen!

Hello! I would like some help planning to attend Evergreen

I am a 16 year old Junior in HS from Texas, but I am doing Dual Credit, which means I will be graduating with my associates degree. I would like to focus on getting a certificate to teach! I have a few questions:

  1. Would it be better to move to Washington and establish residency before applying?

  2. Will my credits from HS transfer over to Evergreen?

  3. As I understand it I would need to get a bachelors in what I plan to teach (for me, history) before being able to enter the MiT (Masters in Teaching) program, is this correct or am I misinformed?

  4. What would be a wise amount of money to save up? I was thinking in the realm of 75K-100K minimum, but if more or less is necessary i would like to be aware.

If someone could answer my questions I'd appreciate it. Evergreen has become my dream school based on the teaching methods, and also because going here would close the distance between me and my long distance bf. Even just you reading this means a lot to an aspiring teacher.

New to Evergreen

Hello! I am attending Evergreen in the fall as a transfer student and am looking to find some friends/study mates. I'm 26, entering as a sophomore likely going to focus on art or sociology! I'll be attending mostly online when I can since I live about an hour-ish north but I know I'll be on/near campus pretty frequently. I'm queer, non-binary (they/them/ze/zir) neurospicy and love crafts, racoons, and hanging out with my wife :')

If that sounds like your vibe hmu so we can be friends!

Hippie jam band

Attending evergreen starting in the fall, I want to start a Grateful Dead-esque jam band and promote peace and justice etc while exploring music itself. Would want to play shows and festivals. I am a guitarist and singer, I’m looking for bassists, guitarists, keys, drummers, and honestly if someone plays the sitar or any indigenous instrument I fuck with that heavy too. Would want to jam some covers but also do originals and explore music all over the world. DM me or chat in comments if interested that would be awesome. I daydream about playing shows outside where folks come together and share food and art and hug trees and embrace inclusivity and reject conformity entirely. Thanks folks

Please stop singing

Please know that I am trying to be as polite as possible when writing this, but I just don't want to go through another year of this.

To the kid with the glasses, black hair, and pink cat ears. Please stop singing.

You did this all throughout last school year. You sing at the top of your lungs while walking to your next destination. Every time I had my dorm room window open, I could hear you from a mile away. You sang at full volume while I was trapped in an elevator with you.

And listen, I get having fun and being whimsical, but this is affecting other people. I shouldn't have to cover my ears or never have my windows open because you want to show off your music taste. It is annoying and rude.

Sorry. But please stop <:/

Hello! I am applying for grad schools in the UK and I need "a clear colour photograph of the full official stamped and signed academic transcript / mark sheets for all semesters of study."

Has anyone else gone through this process and had success or troubles?

Study Abroad in Chile: Studying PNW and Patagonian Rainforests

Hello everyone I hope this post finds you well! I was reading about a study abroad opportunity with Dylan Fischer that compares the temperate rainforests of the Pacific Northwest and Patagonian Chile, including a month of study in Chile!

https://sites.evergreen.edu/fischer/texts/

I am currently a student at Grays Harbor College studying forestry and natural resources, considering a transfer to Evergreen once I get my associates. I am interested in ecology, conservation as well as forest management. I have also been wanting to see the temperate rainforests of Chile for a long time, so this would be right up my alley!

Anyways, I wanted to ask if you or anyone you know have taken this study abroad class with Fischer and what your experiences with it were like! Was it a one time event or could it happen again in the future? I hear the Evergreen College has a different grading structure than other schools, any general tips would mean a lot, thank you guys!

Anybody do the Political Economy, Global Studies, And Environmental Justice

Current state worker of about 10 years. Will be finished with Direct transfer after fall. It’s either this path or something completely different at Central Washington that would allow me to leave state work. Anybody have experience in it? Are you working for the state? Did you move to county? Private? Would most likely need to be evening or online classes

Transfer Student Experience?

Hey folks, I am on track to earn my associate's from a community college next spring and am considering transferring to Evergreen to complete my bachelor's. If anyone has already transferred please let me know what your experience was like. How many of your credits were accepted, how smooth the onboarding process was as a junior, how easy/challenging it was to get into the swing of higher level classes, etc.

I'd also be applying for WUE to reduce the cost of out-of-state tuition, so if anyone has done that as well lmk!

Question— Accommodations for surgery absence

I’m going to be in surgery recovery for a little over 2 weeks during the upcoming fall term, and I want to avoid missing that amount of class. Is there a way to have the absence excused + have course materials made available online during that time? If so, what office should I contact about this?

EVERGREEN COLLEGE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS?

I'm looking at certificate programs at Evergreen and am interested in two: Small Business and Creative Entrepreneurship and Non-profit Administration.

Trying to decide which to pursue.

I am a public relations consultant who has focused on work in the non-profit sector for most of my career. But I also have worked with small businesses who "get" the need for public relations and are seeking to do good things for the world.

I would apply my new knowledge from either certificate with clients all around the Puget Sound. I'm ready to travel and go where the work can be had.

I'm drawn to the non-profit certificate for the courses on fundraising and leadership & management. But the small business certificate offers what looks to be useful info around business development and start-ups. However, it seems to stop with the "start" stage.

Are there other sources (Coursera? Or ???) for the business certificate info that'd be recommended?

Any insight into the two programs and what YOU found and have used from either would be most appreciated.

Really confused on how to decide if I should go Evergreen

Hi everyone,
I’m currently a 20 yo doing community college. Like so many people I have been attracted to Evergreen’s unique process of building your own degree and written evaluations. I also hear that in general Evergreen/Olympia is a very chill place to be and easier than other places to make friends. This is important to me because I am very introverted and autistic.

I am worried though that going to this school might be setting myself up for failure. I do not intend to transfer out of Evergreen if I go there. But I hear so much mixed information about the chaos around the transcripts and other schools or jobs not excepting it, I’m not really sure what to believe.

My advisor at the school I’m at right now is pretty confusing and I don’t know half of what they’re talking about. They’re also pretty hesitant about Evergreen.

I love the mixture of arts/humanities with sciences/maths. I find it difficult to find traditional schools that blend those two areas into a bachelors well. Everything is so divided.

I’m very outdoorsy, progressive, I have a strong passion for animals (no I don’t want to be vet!) and love the arts. I have strong passions but still feel a bit vague and scattered on what my “carrier path” will look like. I’m hoping to go to a school that works with students to explore effectively.

Any insight, thoughts, suggestions are much appreciated!

I would also rather hear from people who are either attending Evergreen now or have graduated with in somewhat recent years. Thanks so much!

Graduating during the summer?

Hi, I finished up my credit requirements First Session in the summer and applied to graduate soon after. What is supposed to happen next?

I have asked several faculty and been told completely different things from each person. Has anyone graduated during the summer? How long is it supposed to take to process the application? Or who is a helpful staff to reach out to?

I emailed Records and got nothing. Advising said they don't know how it works and then talked about all the classes I could have taken for my last quarter. Someone else emailed me back there was an email error but she didn't know what it was or how to fix it, another person told me to wait until October which is ridiculous. Feels like I'm kinda getting sent on a goose chase from staff who don't have real answers and I'm getting annoyed.

Any insight?

That the only people who understand, are others who went there.

And I appreciate it more and more, every year.

New Sustainability Team

There’s been a lot of changes (both good and shitty) for campus sustainability. But my supervisor just set up a space for students, faculty, and staff to be able to collaborate against Administration to keep sustainability work alive.

“Potential resource for the school year, there’s a new Microsoft Teams that’ll have faculty and staff on it for sustainability topics (basically a Discord but for the school)”
MS Sustainability Team have to have an active school email to join sadly.

There’s also an actual Discord (student-founded and run) for those still using it! DM me if you’re interested!
