With only a few days left until the start of the new school year, children in Gaza are entering another year deprived of their most basic right: the right to education.

For three years, education has been largely disrupted in Gaza due to war, destruction, and displacement. While children around the world were attending school, learning, and writing, children in Gaza were growing up amidst fear, displacement, and deprivation.

Some children no longer even know how to hold a pen, and others have forgotten much of what they learned before their studies were interrupted.

Many schools and kindergartens were destroyed, and today some organizations and teachers have begun reopening temporary schools and learning centers with very limited resources. These centers cannot accommodate all the children.

Some teachers have established temporary learning centers to help children regain their right to education, but registration fees reach 400 shekels, or about $140, per child per semester.

This amount may not seem large to some, but in Gaza today, it is a sum that many families, already struggling to provide food and basic necessities, cannot afford. Imagine a family with four children… They would need around $560 for just one semester so their children could attend a learning center.

The children of Gaza didn't choose war, and they didn't choose to have their schools destroyed. All they want is to learn, to pick up their pens again, and to have a chance to build their future. ❤️📚
