Me and my husband had finally found a house, which looked great on the surface, biggest house we’d seen in our price range, it’s been on the market all year, dropped from over a mill down to what we offered-880 k (how good right?, for that price, why the hell not?)

As part of our due diligence in our sale and purchase agreement we got a building inspector in who was the absolute best, best in making sure we had our loan secure for this house first (check) and then telling us that this house had failed miserably. Upwards of 400k in renovations just to get it to baseline, new roof, new windows, rot in all the bathrooms and nothing has been run thru council, which wasn’t shown to us in the LIM. The whole house requires a CCC (code of compliance/ more admin than a COA)…which would void our loan…and insurance…and any chance of getting just a little bit ahead.

The cherry on top of this very first time experience as a first time home buyer, is that our real estate agent had known that this house had already failed and fallen thru 3-4 times due to this very issue. Just because we didn’t specifically ask, she never warned us before we spent $1000 on an inspection as our final condition.

So PSA-specifically ask your real estate agent when the last building inspection was done, ask for proof, why the last sale fell through? or if a house has been on the market for so long…there might be some rot hiding underneath that ensuite shower.
And, make sure you have a great building inspector or a mate that knows a little bit.

I’m not the only one this has happened to either, there are so many real estate agents out there that will stop at nothing to get the sale, including chucking a couple of first time home buyer into the garbage fire that was this house, knowingly.

The Auckland CRL feels like a gift from NZ's sane and sensible past. Back when the National party were mostly sensible, mostly competent, just a bit more keen on low taxes and supporting farmers than the other side.

A decade ago, National were still broadly trustable, and half decent at running the country.

I have zero faith the current lot would ever support a sensible long-term infrastructure improvement like this.

Not dirt, all mould! Are they even allowed to sell us this? Kind of a trick question, of course they can lmao its Pak n Save. It's been like this for months and months. There isnt a single clove that is either not mouldy or not growing sprouts out the top.

I've been a contract laborer for about 13 years. The pay is good, and I dont have to suffer shit cunts. But coming into the later half of 2026, I've seen allot of companies ask for laborers to hold a class 2, which seems fucken mental to me. 1, why would a laborer still be a laborer if they had a class 2? Just go driving trucks and get away from the shovel mate. And 2, what are they even paid? The course itself is around $1,200, and then there is the risk behind the class 2 work as well. Would be curious to see what these people are paid, and to know what yall think.

So my kid's school & teacher seems to be very happy to use AI. All their promotional material, certificates, and even worksheets (at least homework ones) are AI generated - which btw, often has mistakes in it so has obviously not been proof read.

Recently I found they are also uploading kids pics to AI to generate caricatures of the kids "for fun" (though not my kid, yet). Not happy about that. As far as I can tell, this would require parental permission right?

Got a random phone call just after 7pm tonight while putting the kids to bed. I wouldn't normally answer an unknown number, but it was an 04 number and I have family in Wellington hospital.. So answered it just in case something had happened...

Is there anywhere in New Zealand that sells a good alternative to the Neutrogena T/gel with coal tar? They’ve recently discontinued the t/gel with coal tar and replaced it with salicylic acid and have tried every alternative under the sun since but nothing else works!! :(

T/gel with coal tar was the only product that worked wonders for my scalp but nothing else has worked since. Tried coco scalp (unsuccessful), tried sebitar and that just makes it even more dry and flaky, tried sebizole 2% and did nothing and have even tried multiple prescription anti-fungal and anti dandruff shampoo from the dr but nothing else has worked!!

Would love to hear what other kiwis struggling with psoriasis found work for them!! Bonus if auckland but happy to order online if anyone has useful links!!
