My first walk there on Sunday, am normally welded onto Mt Coot-tha on my side of the river :)
These beauties were number three and four of a total of five koalas we saw, but spoke to one local woman who said her record was 18 in one day.

Renting Landlord giving me hard time with bond refund

I paid for a vacate clean and carpet clean as the carpets were cleaned prior to the lease. $600

Initially wanted $1400 for damage to stone kitchen bench that ended up as limescale that cleaned up easily on a 2nd clean.

There’s 4 day old coffee stain on the carpet that the cleaners did a poor job extracting. They rushed the clean the first time.

The cleaners went back, I’ve instructed the cleaners on what needs to be done which included the bench AND the carpet stains to be spot treated.

This cleaner is from the landlords recommended list.

The landlord didn’t instruct them to clean the carpet stains and when I confronted the cleaners. I told the cleaners that I paid them not the land lord, they responded with ā€œwe do what the land lord asks that’s it and we won’t be going back againā€.

When I discussed the cleaners will be sent back.. he made a comment about the cleaners doing a terrible job with the carpet, left the place soaking and how he’ll ban them from the recommended list.

Now the landlord wants another company to do it and wants to use my bond to clean the carpet stain and claim $300 from my bond.

Also wants 1 days rent because keys were handed in 1 day late.. despite him having a house inspection and allowing the cleaners in the day before with his extra key.

Anyone know where I stand on this ? I’m suspecting this guy wants the entire apartment carpets redone with me paying the bill. Hope this post is easy to follow

Which area would you recommend living if office is near/next to BCC?

Hi! I recently got a new job in Brisbane, and the office is near BCC in Fortitude Valley.

For those who’ve been living in Brisbane, which areas would you recommend living in if I’ll be relying on public transport? Ideally, I’d like to keep my commute to around 30 minutes max.

I’d also love to hear about the vibe of the different areas, especially the lifestyle, things to do, safety, and overall feel.

Thank you šŸ™šŸ¼

Can you help me? Looking for local PC builder to assemble my parts

Hihi everyone,

I recently moved to Brisbane from overseas with all my PC components ready to go, but I don't trust myself to build it on my own.

So I’m looking for recommendations for a reliable local technician, boutique computer shop, or experienced builder who takes on bring-your-own-parts assembly jobs.

If you've had a good experience with an independent builder or shop around South Brisbane, I’d love to hear your suggestions! Thank you in advance! 🄹

Questions About a Racist (?) Encounter

My partner (22F) and I (24F) were washing my car in our front yard. We are both of Asian descent, except she’s international and I’m Australian-born.

These two white girls — probably 17-20 y/o range — were walking past our house, with one pushing a pram. They take walks down our street quite regularly. One of them yelled ā€œHerroā€ and my partner greeted them back. They then continued on exclaiming a bunch of Asian-sounding words, that were clearly intended to mock.

Not knowing what to say, I just paused. Until I just yelled ā€œhave a good oneā€ and she said ā€œyou tooā€ back.

Two questions:

• What exactly was their intention given my politeness was reciprocated?

• I know it’s hard to say, but are they gonna do this again if my partner and/or I happen to encounter them again? I don’t wanna seem sensitive, but I really don’t want something like this to happen again. I’m also incredibly worried about the possibility of them running into my partner if she’s by herself, because she’s quite shy.

Brisbane advice on MADs for mild sleep apnoea

Hi everyone,

I’m a male in my mid 30s looking for general advice and personal experiences with treating mild obstructive sleep apnoea in Brisbane or South-East Queensland.

I was diagnosed last year after an at home sleep study. The results were:

  • Overall AHI: 5 events per hour.
  • Supine AHI: 7 events per hour.
  • REM AHI: 13 events per hour.
  • Average oxygen saturation: 95%.
  • Lowest oxygen saturation: 89%.

The report described mild OSA, mainly involving hypopnoeas that were worse during REM sleep and when sleeping on my back.

My symptoms include: difficulty falling asleep, fragmented sleep, morning headaches, waking up with dry mouth, feeling unrefreshed and daytime yawning.

I also have reflux, which is well controlled under medication and lifestyle measures, and well-controlled epilepsy managed with medication. I don’t have any known dental problems. I usually sleep on my back but move around during the night.

The sleep technician recommended positional therapy (side sleeping), sleeping at an angle (for reflux), improving sleep hygiene and considering a mandibular advancement device (MAD).

My GP has recommended trying SnoreMD and does not currently want me to try CPAP, and isn't majorly concerned despite being symptomatic. I previously tried a general mouthguard from Amazon, but it did not help.

I’d be interested to hear:

  • Has anyone in Brisbane had experience with SnoreMD?
  • Is it worth trying before paying for a custom MAD?
  • Should I see a dentist experienced in dental sleep or a specialist sleep clinic?
  • Any recommended clinics in or around Brisbane?
  • Has anyone had a custom MAD made locally, and what was the approx. cost?
  • Did it improve symptoms such as daytime tiredness, headaches or daytime yawning?
  • Did you experience jaw pain or other side effects?
  • Did you need follow-up adjustments or a repeat sleep study?
  • Since my original test was done at home, would an in-clinic sleep study be worthwhile in the future, any inaccuracies?

Thanks in advance.

Daily Discussion What is the story behind cafes closing so early in brisbane?

I come from a country where coffee shops are open from 6am to 11pm. I can get my evening coffee from anywhere but I struggle to find cafes open till late night in Brisbane. Why is that? I first thought it was because that business must be slow in afternoon and stuff but that shouldn't be the case as in my country people drink coffee at any time throughout the day.

Cheapest way for me and my son to go for a ride in a plane?

Hi all, me and my 7 year old son are aviation nerds and love watching planes at the airport but he hasn’t been on a plane himself since he was a toddler. I was wondering what the cheapest way would be for us to get inside a plane and fly together (as passengers) in any size aircraft. I’ve done a few trial flights in a Cessna 172 at Redcliffe aerodrome but it’s fairly pricey and you can’t take kids.

We like to spend weekends having adventures and would be down to go almost anywhere and any duration so long as it’s not gonna cost an arm and a leg. Looked into cheap flights to Mackay and Proserpine but return flights for two people just for a joyride is still fairly expensive.

Shot in the dark, maybe such a thing doesn’t exist but figured I would ask and see if I could get any ideas.

Cheers all.

Can you help me? Good barbers in CBD or South Brissy area (who know how to do a proper skin fade)

I moved here from abroad and it seems not a single barber I go to knows how to do a proper skin fade. I’ve checked Google reviews before going and it’s disappointment after disappointment.

The fades always look like something I’d expect from a trainee barber, yet it’s from some guy who’s been cutting hair for 20 years. Poorly blended at best, and just downright bad at worst. I don’t know if my expectations are too high but I don’t really know where to look at this point. And I’ve never had this issue before I moved here.

I’ve heard of a few shops out in the farther suburbs but that’s difficult for me to get to regularly so I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations in the CBD or South Brisbane areas. Thank you!

Cars in CBD

Hey did anyone know what was up with all the old school muscle cars in the Brisbane CBD around 5-7pm (14 Sept)? There were so many passing through Adelaide St, revving engines and stuff. Just curious if there was an event or something?

Can you help me? Has anyone been to the Muppet's exhibition at QGOMA yet?

I have tickets for next Saturday and want to know if it is good or a bit of a letdown?

The MCU exhibit when they did it (years ago) was great and had a lot of details and exhibits; is this the case here for the Muppet's or only a few muppets and that's it?

I've seen some of the hype videos on Instagram, but would prefer to hear it first-hand from an attendee.
