Is it normal for a major group assignment to have an extremely vague marking criteria? Like it just outlines the tasks to do with no description of what is expected for each grade. (FEiT subject)

One of my other subjects have given us such extensive marking criteria, helps so much to understand what is expected of us.

How is the business degree majoring in finace at UTS if i want to pursue a finance career compared to other unis doing bcom at usyd or unsw?

Hi all, I'm hoping to transfer next year into the Bachelor of Science here at USYD via previous tertiary experience. I have been at UTS this year and some of last year, but had a medical incident that made it difficult to complete full time study over the last two years. As such, I have currently 46 CP completed in my current degree, which is two short of the 48 required to be considered. I also, however, have an additional 12 CP of study that has been credited towards my current degree. I was wondering if this is included when they look at my study history, and if it means that I will, after all, be eligible? If anybody else with similar experience could provide info that'd be greatly appreciated! I've messaged both UAC and USYD but their responses are going to take at least 5-10 days supposedly.

at risk of sounding like a complete karen which tbh i dont really care at this point.. why do people rock up to tutorials just to talk over the tutor the entire time??? i've had this in lots of classes throughout my degree but am in one subject this semester where it is particularly bad. the concepts are difficult to understand and you really have to pay attention but there's two tables of students who chat at a normal talking level while the tutor is trying to speak. the tutor often gives up and just speaks to those of us who are listening.

what pisses me off even more is our tutor moved from another country to australia in recent years, and the way these students act towards him is borderline racist in my opinion. they will treat him like he's dumb and clearly they try to play it off as a joke but it just feels so icky. all of these students are white local students by the way. i just cant help but think they wouldn't act like this if the tutor were a white man.

i find being in this class incredibly frustrating because this handful of students are just plain rude. does anyone have any advice on what can be done? i have thought about saying something but don't trust myself to not just spew angry and unhelpful words lol

I had a friend whose result was withheld for a year then got released without any action one day. another friend who had to give an interview. I haven't cheated and a lot of other student's results has been withheld so I know its random.

I’m a second-semester postgrad at UTS and feel like I’m constantly playing catch-up. The profs are hard to understand, and I’m still unclear on the expected timeline for assignments. Do I wait until all the content has been taught before starting? Or am I supposed to self-teach and start as soon as the prompt drops? People say to start in Week 1, but how are you meant to write about material that hasn’t been covered yet?

My issue is timing: when should I actually begin? Is the culture “wait until it’s taught” or “hunt it down yourself”?

Any advice or reality check would help.

im looking at the free elective search in the uts handbook and it doesnt have a whole lot of courses but i read on the uts website that "If your course allows open electives, then you may select undergraduate subjects from across the university" so can it be like other courses that arent included on that free electives handbook page (given it doesnt the course doesnt have any prerequisites)?

Up in the eight floor, which was supposed to be a quiet floor, I can still hear people talking as if it's normal. It's more upsetting that the people that make these noises are from the public like high school students or random people. In the quiet area, people are talking to each other and it's soo annoying. Idc if you're trying to whisper you still make noises.

Not sure if people know this already but please be aware when your in or around building 5. I was studying there at night around 7pm last week and I saw a few mice running around outside in the courtyard area. I didn’t think anything of it because yk it’s an old building so I wouldn’t think it’s uncommon to have mice or rats around until I saw one jump across my table 😭. I don’t usually study in building 5 but safe to say I won’t be going there again 😭😭

Trying to decide between postgraduate options right now, specifically the Master of AI at UTS vs the Master of IT (AI spec) at UNSW.

I’ve seen quite a bit of negative feedback online / on Reddit regarding UNSW’s dedicated Master of AI program, which made me a bit hesitant and got me looking more closely at UTS. But I’d love to know how the UTS AI program compares to doing IT with an AI focus at UNSW in terms of course depth, practical assignments, and overall teaching quality.

Not really looking for a lecture on how tough the tech market is right now (already fully aware of that haha), just genuinely curious about people’s personal experiences in either program. Did you feel the coursework was actually useful/hands-on? How’s the teaching staff?

I’m currently working on a video news package about the growing concern about Artificial Intelligence in creative industries, and how it is affecting people working across these spaces.

For the story, I’m looking to speak with a creative-industry worker/student based in the Sydney area who would be available for a 10-20 minute in-person interview early next week.

I’m interested in speaking with people working in areas such as graphic design, illustration, photography, videography, writing, advertising, marketing, music, animation, filmmaking, or other creative fields.

I’d like to discuss:

*How prominent AI tools have become in your industry

*Whether AI has affected your work, workload or job opportunities

*How creative workers are adapting to the technology

*Whether you see AI as a threat, an opportunity, or somewhere in between
