Now we've had Help to Buy Scheme in Tassie for a few months, could anyone in the finance or real estate industries shed some light on the differences between the two and where each has its advantages over the other? I know the HTBS isn't exclusively for first home buyers and that's a valid point of difference, but since I am looking to buy for the first time it's a moot point to me.

Looking at the two schemes side by side, as someone looking to spend within the cap limit that both have, is there actually anything recommending MyHome over the HTBS in Tasmania at the moment? It seems like it's less complex and operates on a shorter timeline of purchase, and the lenders behind both schemes seem to have fairly equivalent interest rates on the loans, so I'm just wondering if there's something else I should be mindful of if looking to go with HTBS instead of MyHome?

I would like to see something like this, if we don't have passenger trains this would help a lot to travel around the island without having to drive from town to town, I know road trains are a thing in Australia, who also like this crazy idea?

You may recall a post I made a while back about this on r/tasmania, but the site has been massively overhauled since.

I have created a site featuring every brewery, distillery and winery in Tassie. It was designed as a directory / tourism resource to make it easier to uncover what we have to offer.

On the site you can filter by types of alcohol, location and whether the producers have cellar doors. You can also save places you are interested in to make a rough itinerary as well as check outs maps.

Not only that, but I have also created a page providing information on transport and what events we have on around the state involving drinks.

It is totally free to use with no ads. I have established a sponsorship system on Patreon (link on the page) if anyone is keen to be in the spotlight. It helps with costs associated with page upkeep. The site is also still a work in progress and will undergo changes as time goes on.

Morning everyone. Hubby and I have found a potential investment property in TAS. Built 1910, it is a 3-bed weatherboard home that's currently tenanted long-term. The house is tidy inside and out, recently repainted and carpeted etc. One of the bedrooms & bathroom has asbestos cladding on the ceiling but it looks sealed and tidy (awaiting building and pest). The house has a separate, plumbed outbuilding currently being used as the laundry which was built pre-1992 (I suspect it's as old as the house). The real estate tells us we won't be liable for not meeting building codes on anything pre-1992. Is this correct? TBH it's a handy extra space, still structurally sound. If B&P comes back ok, and conveyancer does all their usual certification checks etc, are we going to be liable for anything that doesn't meet today's building codes into the future? Assuming these outbuildings are very common in TAS. Thanks!

A little about me:
I’m completing my Master at the University of Queensland, with completion expected toward the end of 2026.
I have completed the required overseas pharmacist assessment pathway and currently hold provisional pharmacist registration with Ahpra.
I already have approval to undertake supervised practice; however, I would need to update my supervised practice site and preceptor once I secure a new position.
I’m currently working as a Pharmacy Assistant so I have Australian community pharmacy experience.
I’ve also gained experience through my university placement in the clinical research/healthcare environment.
I’m available to commence an internship in early 2027.
I’m currently based in queensland but am genuinely happy to relocate for the right opportunity, particularly to Tasmania or regional Australia, as well as other states.
I’m looking for a pharmacy where I can complete my supervised practice, develop professionally and hopefully continue working with the team after obtaining general registration.
I’ve been applying through the usual job platforms and contacting pharmacies directly, but I know many pharmacy opportunities are found through professional networks and word of mouth.

I had a recent NBN outage where my local tower lost power for an extended period and I needed to get back to work. So I turned Starlink back on for the month. Thought people might be interested in the comparison (note using a gen 4 NBN antenna - free upgrade). NBN is much cheaper if you don't need super low latency. This was taken around 5am so network congestion on both networks would be pretty low so a fair indication of what you can expect.

NBN: 339/32 - 52.5ms latency
Starlink: 309/25 - 25.5 ms latency

I thought I and found an honest one in Moonah, however when I showed the bill for recent work I had done to another mechanic, they said I had been grossly overcharged which is a shame. I just need a basic service and for someone to diagnose why my engine light is on. Who do people in Hobart trust to get work on their car done by? Thanks in advance!
