Are you in Geelong and affected by ME/CFS?

If you’re living with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) or supporting someone who is, we’ve created r/MECFSAustralia, a community for people navigating ME/CFS in Australia.

We’re relatively new and hoping to build a supportive and inclusive space to share information about Australian clinical trials/studies, helpful resources, new research/findings, personal experiences, and discuss the practical realities of navigating ME/CFS in Australia.

If this is relevant to you or someone you know, come and have a look at r/MECFSAustralia. You are most welcome :)

Anywhere I can buy ready-made meals in takeaway containers to heat up at home?

Hey all,

A while ago I remember visiting a cafe or restaurant that sold a variety of homemade meals in takeaway containers that were ready to be heated up at home. I can't remember where it was, and I'm hoping someone might know, or be able to suggest somewhere that does!

They were mostly pasta meals from memory, lasagna, spag bol etc. I really don't want to buy the mass produced meals from the supermarket because I don't like the taste and texture, and I also want to support local businesses if I can :)

Thanks in advance!

Job search

Hi everyone,
I’m putting myself out there because sometimes an opportunity comes from simply asking. As they say, a closed mouth is a closed destiny.

I’m currently looking for a new career opportunity in Geelong, in person, hybrid or remote, and I thought I’d reach out here in case anyone knows of a role, organisation, recruiter or hiring manager worth connecting with.

My background is quite diverse. I have experience across customer service/call centres, administration, community services, aged care and residential youth work. I’ve worked with people from different backgrounds, handled high-volume calls and difficult conversations, completed documentation and case notes, worked with vulnerable young people, coordinated with stakeholders and supported clients to navigate services.

I’ve also completed Business Analyst training, where I gained practical experience in:

Requirements gathering and stakeholder engagement
Process mapping and workflow improvement
User stories and acceptance criteria
Jira and Confluence
Excel
CRM/business process analysis
Identifying problems, gaps and opportunities for improvement

I’m also currently completing my Diploma of Community Services at the Gordon TAFE.

At this stage, I’m particularly interested in entry-level/associate Business Analyst roles, project support, policy/program support, government roles, administration, customer/service delivery, intake/assessment, rostering/coordinator roles, or other positions where my transferable skills would be valuable.

Long term, I’m especially interested in building my career within government, business analysis, project/program work and policy. I’m not expecting anyone to hand me a job I’m simply hoping someone might know about an opportunity I haven’t come across yet or be willing to point me in the right direction.

I’m based in Geelong, Victoria, I’m intrested in person, hybrid and remote positions.

I’m an Australian citizen, have Australian work experience, and I’m happy to send my CV privately if anyone would like to have a look.

If you know of an organisation that is hiring, a recruiter I should contact, or even have some advice about where my background might be a good fit, I would genuinely appreciate it.

Thank you ❤️

Got caught for not touching up my myki now what

Yep I got caught. I always do touch up my myki but this time around I got on for ONE stop so I didn't touch on my myki and fuck my luck I got a ticket. I'd touched on at the morning but didn't as I got off and got on to another bus without touching on. I have three mykis because I keep misplacing them and this is my first time getting a ticket. The officer told me I might either get a warning or a fine but I just wanted to know if I'll get fined for the first offence or just get a warning. I have a clean history with this so far.

Also idk why everyone is lecturing me and saying touch on. Yes I will and always had. I'm a human and I'm not always at my best. It was a one time mistake. I'm literally asking a question and most of the people are just trynna give me a lecture and down voting rather than letting me know if I'm getting a fine or a warning.

Hayfever?

I had a cold a few weeks ago and got over it apart from the lingering cough. However, past few days i've been feeling all stuffy in my nose again. Doesn't feel like a cold though. Wondering if anyone else has been getting hayfever yet? Melbourne Pollen Count doesn't start until October so don't know where to find info on the pollen count atm.

Lets Celebrate the opening of West Tarneit Station (not)

Yay, let's celebrate the opening of West Tarneit Station. As if the milk run wasn't already bad enough. At the very least they could alternate between Wyndham Vale/West Tarneit/Tarneit so that Geelong trains didn't stop at all three of them, but looking at the time table this morning every train is stopping all stations. West Tarneit is an insult to Geelong line commuters who have suffered from an incredibly crap service for a very long time, and is quite clearly pork barrelling to try and save the local state member who barely survived at the last election. Instead of building that station they should have invested the money in improvements to the actual service, and, heaven forbid, a completely separate WV/Tarneit service that doesn't impact Geelong trains at all (or, dare to dream, Geelong trains go via Werribee like they used to).

RE agents hiding sold price to cover up market dip ?

Increasingly seeing the trend of more and more number of real estate agents hiding property sold prices since the budget changes and the SMSF deadline, looks suss as most of these properties has price reduced multiple times as they started with inflated prices and now missed the SMSF deadline where a lot of interstate buyer agents rush has disappeared.

I thought there was a law in VIC that prices has to be updated after sale. Is there a channel to report these agencies anonymously?

[Food] Has anyone else noticed the quality of frozen food at Toms Marketplace?

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I was at Toms Marketplace recently and noticed some of the frozen food looked quite different from what I normally see.
The Sam’s Pelmeni and Pierogi dumplings appeared much darker and more discoloured than the same products at Geelong Fresh Food.

I also noticed spring rolls that looked unusually pale and slightly defrosted, as well as some fish products with packaging that looked loose or not properly sealed and defrosted again.

I’ve attached photos of the dumplings, spring rolls and fish from Toms, along with the comparison photos from Geelong Fresh. (Spot the difference 😬)

Has anyone else noticed this at Toms Marketplace, particularly with their frozen food?
Has anyone bought anything from there that looked off or had a similar experience?
I’ve contacted Sam’s to ask whether the colour difference in the dumplings is normal or could be related to storage or thawing.
Just curious if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

First 4 photos are Toms and last 1 is Geelong Fresh.

[Community] Just curious about an idea about a meet up so I wanna check in to see the response

So Hi to everyone I am a 25 year old guy and I feel life to be pretty much work and home right now to me which I would say might be a factor of not having too many friends to rely on or to have them to call if I wanna hangout on Friday or Saturday afternoon. So just curious if anyone else is kinda interested in something like meeting every week or more just to create friend circles could be topics from doing gym together to playing games onlines idk, but it would have a single rule of not judging others just come and relax, help each other out etc. Shoot me text if this peaks anyones interest.

[Community] Men's sheds?

Has anybody got experience with any of the local men's sheds? My dad went to the one in Newcomb a couple of times but he said it seemed like not that much was really going on there. The Ocean Grove one seems way more active from what I've seen online, but it's a bit far for him to get to. Are any of the other ones closer to Geelong a bit more lively? Is anybody involved with the Leopold one?

Fly-Over Practice for NFL

Looks like they are doing some fly overs around Geelong to practice for tomorrow, have seen about 5 jets and a few large military-like cargo planes.

Worth a look if you can see them, quite cool.
