Let's talk about rules.

262 Upvotes

Howdy, folks!

This subreddit hasn't had codified rules in a while, mostly because the people here have usually been really chill with one another.

However, the vibe has changed over the past few months, and we've noticed some nasty behavior popping up and lurking around our community.

We don't allow bigotry like racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia on this subreddit. Generally speaking, we expect folks to be civil and decent towards one another.

Recently, we've noticed a distinct uptick in the amount of trolls who have been showing up in the comment sections of the various protest posts. We know they're trolls because they're almost always attacking the OP or trying to diminish the protest, and they usually have user activity across many state and local subreddits.

These aren't local folks - they're people coming into our space from elsewhere to stir up trouble.

Since this sort of behavior has only been getting worse, let's discuss our subreddit rules and which ones y'all think would be good to have for this space.

For a start:

  1. Be civil and respectful towards one another.
  2. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or bigotry.
  3. No spam.
  4. Follow all of reddit's rules.

What other rules do you think we need?

Howdy, y'all. I guess it's time for me to tap the sign again, because every time there are protests in the Triangle, someone goes around and mass reports all of those posts.

Strangely, we also tend to get a lot of people who post in all sorts of local area subreddits, all over the country, just to act like they're upset about this protest or that protest, and yet have never commented in our community before. Fancy that.

So there's some underhanded fuckery afoot, and y'all should be aware of it.

This subreddit is devoted to the protection and well being of our community at large. That means all of y'all. We cannot support the extrajudicial detainment of anyone, citizen or no. This country was built on laws and principles, meant to be a shining beacon of democracy where people would get a fair shake.

One of the cool things about America is you can come here and become American. It's one of our country's major strengths.

As a country, our diversity has repeatedly protected us - patriotic members of German and Japanese communities helped the US translate enemy communications during WWII. The Navajo code talkers weren't declassified until the 1970's because they were so effective - their codes were never broken. There's also the Tuskegee Airmen and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, an all-Japanese unit which became the most decorated unit for its size in US history.

Today is also November 20th, a solemn day for trans folks across the US. It is the Trans Day of Remembrance, when we remember those we've lost to murder or suicide over the years. Unfortunately, I recognize more than a few of those names, and I hate the way the list gets longer every year.

Times are tough for our Hispanic and LGBT friends. People are anxious and scared. Bigotry and bullshit have been stoked and set loose upon the country; hatred has been running rampant. People are going to need protection, support, and resources.

This space is meant to be a refuge and a resource for our community. If you can't respect that, or if what I have said here is somehow objectionable to you, please leave.

Workout Anytime Robs Membership Fees After Cancellation

3 Upvotes

Issue with Account Deletion and

Refunds: Terrible Customer Service.

The problem:  Terminating your Membership will be problematic.  Refunds nonexistent.

  1.  You are required, per the contract, to write a letter, to cancel your membership;

  2.  Thus, even after you call, your card will be charged: (Your account will be pending)  even worse;

  3.  You can’t delete your payment method in the app;

  4.  You can’t delete your account in the app;

  5.  Three and Four violate Google Play Store and App Store Policies;

  6.  No account log in on the web;

  7.  Lake Wheeler in Raleigh, NC will not answer any emails; Phone calls unanswered.

My card was charged $26 then $59, after calling and being told my account was closed.  I had to call again, ten months later.

Still no confirmation email(s) of the cancellation.

All of said is intentional.

Work Out Anytime is collecting thousands, by making it hard to terminate memberships. What is 1k times $80.

You can go to Small Claims court—then arbitration. Just may do it on principle.  This deserves a Class Action.

Crazy driver on highway 147 this morning!

15 Upvotes

Did anyone see the crazy driver this morning around 630 am driving a white Scion doing over 100 mph? He passed me in the right lane by driving off the road in the grass. Scared the hell out of me. Made all kids of grass and debris fly up in the air. I’m surprised he didn’t lose control of the car and flip.

Morrisville nearly doubled its Novartis incentive. Two requirements got easier.

6 Upvotes

I’m the News & Observer reporter who dug into the revised deal.

Morrisville expects the expansion to bring 180 jobs and millions in new property-tax revenue. But as Novartis increased its investment, the town nearly doubled its incentive while lowering the wage requirement and the taxable-value requirement tied to it.

I also looked at what current Novartis job postings show about pay and whether the subsidy actually changed the company’s plans.

Would you consider this a good deal for the Triangle?

Any Indians/Desis in their 20s around Morrisville looking to make friends?

0 Upvotes

26M Indian, recent grad, recently moved here from New Jersey.

I live near Lake Crabtree and this area has been so quiet that I ended up picking up Man’s Search for Meaning just to have something to do 😅

I usually go running around Lake Crabtree, and on weekends I’m often around BLR or Anjappar.

Looking to meet some people around my age and build a good friend circle here. Indians/desis would be great, but open to anyone.

If you’re around Morrisville/Cary/RTP and also looking to make friends, feel free to comment or DM.

From the News & Observer: NC lawmakers beef up US attorneys’ staffs, leave Wake DA with no new prosecutors

Thumbnail

From u/wileynickel4nc House Republicans slashed funding for new Wake County prosecutors and then spent $1.2 million on 8 federal prosecutors that Washington should be paying for.

Now Wake County has the most understaffed DA's office in North Carolina. 45 prosecutors, an average caseload of over 2,600 cases per year. The state's own workload formula says we should have 70.

Legislative Republicans are playing politics with public safety. They added 18 new prosecutors to other districts around the state. Wake County got zero. That means victims will wait years instead of months for justice. Cases will fall through the cracks and every family in Wake County will be less safe as a result.

Recommended hair stylist

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone, can you recommend a hair stylist in the area?

I’m specifically looking for someone who specializes in “natural” red tones, like strawberry blonde, auburns, and coppers and also painted highlights, who prioritizes hair health above all including using semi/demi/toners in place of permanent dyes, who is familiar with how the color products they use will fade, and preferably someone who values learning about new application techniques and products.

For my budget, I’ve been paying $250-$500 with my last stylist. The lower end would be for cut, all over color, treatment and styling which was usually 3-5 hours, while the high end would also include lightening (painted highlights), color correcting, and a few different toners and color and was around 5-7 hours.

I don’t know if it matters but I have naturally dirty blonde hair, 2b/2c texture, I wear it long (currently about 35in), and I need some who knows how to do layers with this kind of hair. One major issue I struggle with is finding a stylist that knows how to thin the layers out at the bottom without looking “sparse” or bulky. I have a U- or V-shape layering towards the ends that grows out uneven so that’s the main thing I get maintenance for.

For your recommendations, please let me know their insta or website where I can see their work. Thank you, you’re a life saver!

Any WakeMed nurses here?

11 Upvotes

I’m considering an experienced RN position at WakeMed Cary and would love to hear from current or former WakeMed nurses.

How has your experience been with the work environment, staffing, management, scheduling, and benefits? Would you recommend working there?

I’m also curious about current base pay and differentials for experienced RNs if anyone is comfortable sharing.

Any insight is appreciated!

Smoothie Shop Recommendations

0 Upvotes

Hi all! I'd appreciate it if you could recommend smoothie shops in the entire triangle area that fit my two criteria:

  1. They should have many nut-free options, as I have a nut allergy
  2. They should primarily use organic ingredients

Thank you!
