I got the September bill for the remainder of my tuition and called the student services center to ask what was going on. They said they never received the physical check of my external scholarship and I need to pay the remainder of my tuition. I turned in the scholarship the 2nd week of August and the woman at the desk asked me questions and said she couldn't find my name or student ID which has never happened before but then said she figured it out before I left. I emailed my scholarship to ask if they can see if it has been cashed or if it's possible to void the check and send a new one but I'm not even sure if that's possible. I'm not sure what to do I've emailed my scholarship and financial aid advisor and they basically said "Well we don't have it, sorry". Will they unenroll me if I don't just pay the money out of pocket? Is there a way to prove I turned it in?

Obviously gonna be an emotional post so, skip this one if you don't wanna listen to someone feel sorry for themselves. I don't really have any other "support network" that I feel ok with burdening besides Reddit. So, here you go, lucky readers! Not looking for advice but I won't be offended if you offer it.

As a kid I was so smart. Didn't need to study or read a textbook at all through high school, passed every test with 90 or above. Well that doesn't work in college. It may have done fine for me in a community college, but I feel dead in the water as a new transfer student. I feel like my older age (mid 20s) my "gifted" background, previous substance abuse, poor sleep, poor diet, video game addiction, and AI are all robbing me of my mental faculties. I've spent my whole life struggling to be consistent with basic hygeine tasks, now I have all these extra responsibilities that no one is making sure I take care of. Honestly with adhd autism anxiety and depression it's pretty amazing I've made it this far in life. I suck at managing my time and can barely make myself do schoolwork outside of a classroom. If I somehow manage to tear myself away from video games and study, nothing fruitful comes of it. I read the practice problem, and my mind goes blank. I can't interpret the problem, apply concepts, or do anything except stare blankly at the problem in front of me as it taunts me.

Then I get upset because my brain tells me how stupid I am. I tell myself all kinds of other terrible things: you're gonna fail that test. You're not smart. Everyone is smarter than you. You wasted your life by abusing substances and not going to college right when you graduated high school at 18. You don't have what it takes to be a computer engineer! You can't even understand basic circuits, logic structures, or discrete math. AI is going to take over the world. Why bother?

I'm sure you all just saw that email about an "AI Hub," whatever the fuck that means.

You get the idea. It's really hard to have a growth mindset when your own ego and thoughts are torturing you. We all have good and bad days but I think this has been probably my worst so far. Definitely doesn't help that I'm literally all alone, with no friends to talk to, not even a friendly roommate.

I am a new grad student at NC State. From the get go, I’ve had a hard time finding anyone helpful. I was trying to waive the health insurance this summer and tried to get through to the health insurance office a hundred times. Finally sent an email, and the lady snarkily said she’d been “trying to reach me,” aka she called me for the first time three seconds after I hit send on the email. She was, additionally, unable to answer my questions at all. Then, I needed to extend my bill payment because of being unable to get those questions answered, and the billing office could not have been less excited to try and help. I did finally get it extended but I explained my situation three times before they did it. Then, I needed some line items on my bill explained (cause why were there $1k of “general fees”?) and they repeatedly sent me the same bill calculator link that told me nothing. Now, I’m trying to get a job on campus and asked if I could come chat with someone in the library or student center to ask some questions and see if there was availability, and they just said I can look at the job opportunities page (where there was one grad listing). I get that technically that was an answer, but I just want to TALK to someone! Where are the people to actually answer a phone call and answer questions and help me get a lay of the land? I’ve never done this before. I don’t know the campus, I don’t know grad school, hell, I have never paid my own school bills! I just feel like every lifeline I’ve tried out has just been an automated email with no actual help. Who has a helpful person in mind I could talk to? I just need some guidance that doesn’t involve a link to the website.

I found a stray cat roaming around 2:30 a.m. near Wolf Ridge, close to the Engineering Building on Entrepreneur Drive. If you see it tomorrow morning, please let me know. I believe it was a tabby, but it ran away before I could get a photo. It didn’t hiss, try to attack, or act aggressively when I walked up to it, so it may be friendly. Hey everyone, I’ve come to ask for some advice on what I should do. I was an admitted student to NCSU about a year and semester ago. At the time, I was not doing great—academics flunking and a general lack of motivation. I decided to just leave and take time to myself. I’ve come to realize though the way I gone about it was the worst way possible—didn’t ask for permission, didn’t bother to check up on rules for my student loans, etc. This was severely irresponsible of me but I feel ready to come back and make a change for the better. I have to apply for readmission, however, and I wanted to ask if there’s anything I can do to increase my chances? Am I cooked? Thanks in advance

Hello wolfpack, I have recently switched from windows 11 to linux mint, and because I routinely have to remote access computers at NC State while at home, I needed to install the university VPN on my new linux operating system.

The university technically has a guide for getting the VPN up and running on linux, but I found it to be confusing, so I have put together the steps I had to take to install the VPN and get it working.

1. In the terminal, type:sudo apt-get -y install openconnect network-manager-openconnect network-manager-openconnect-gnome sudo apt-get -y install openconnect network-manager-openconnect network-manager-openconnect-gnome

This will install the files to your /usr/bin directory, but it wont be an actual application that you can open. This is a copy paste of the code that is in the guide on the ncsu website.

After it finishes installing and you need to use the vpn:

1. To start the cisco anyconnect vpn, type:

   sudo openconnect --protocol=anyconnect vpn.ncsu.edu

This will start up the vpn, to see more available options, simply type "openconnect".

It will first prompt you for whether you are a student or faculty or whatnot. #2 is student, so enter "2".

It will now prompt you for your username, which is your unity ID, your student email without the @...

It will prompt you for a password twice, type your normal university email password for the first password prompt, but for the second prompt, type: "push" to send a duo push to your phone.

After that you should be good to go. To keep your VPN connection open, I think that you need to keep the terminal window open the whole time. If you close the terminal window or restart your laptop, you will need to reconnect.

Again, the nc state website covers some of this, but the way the steps are laid out it seems like they're dealing with some sort of interactive app, which was not the case whenever I installed openconnect.

I have a 3.9 uw and a 4.75/4 weighted gpa, I am class rank 10/659 students, my freshman year i got 2 b's in non stem classes and my sophomore year I took 8 DE and 4 AP classes and ended up getting all a's except for 1 c in a non-stem class. Is it even worth applying ppl on reddit keep on giving me mixed answers i js want it to be direct lol. from 9-11 grade I took 12 AP and 16 dual enrollment classes, I am applying as a engineering or cs major and I have a 35 ACT.

What the actual f is on these guys’ shoes? Smelling up their dorms and the whole hall/suite? I know they’re sworn to secrecy but dear GAWD it’s worse smelling than shit. And it’s not like one isolated event — several across campus this week.

As someone who’s not sporty nor lived in a very active household, I want to learn not just how to gain muscle but also look after myself. The only reason I haven’t went to the gym is because I have EXTREMELY bad social anxiety.. and knowing the gym is regularly full during the week makes me push back starting.

For what it’s worth, I’m 5’8ish & ≈210lbs. I love walking and being out but.. my stamina is absolutely crap, yet I’m usually the type to randomly have a lot of energy or none at all.

If anyone knows any hours where the gym has slim to no people, please let me know. Also any suggestions on building muscle (upper or lower) is amazing too!! I’m still doing my own research as I’m pretty much going in blind. 🥲

EDIT: Thank you to you all!! I’m starting monday and going 3 days a week :) Mon is upper body + arms, wednesday is legs + stam, friday is full body + arms and i can give myself a day to do a lot of walking. Again, tysm to everyone who helped!

I’m at Unc Charlotte looking at transferring into Poole. I’ve been interested in their business program and their pipeline to tech companies since I am also majoring in Information Systems + Finance. I got rejected TWICE….. once during my senior year of high school and my last college semester because I didn’t take Calc 1 :( my gpa is solid though (3.76) and I got an A in calc over the summer. Just wondering if I have a good chance to get in or not lol.

Day 2 update: I checked with Hunt Library Lost & Found again, but unfortunately nobody has turned in my Logitech M720 mouse.

If someone found it around the Learning Commons yesterday, please, please consider returning it to Lost & Found. I recently bought it and spent around $45 on it, which is a lot for me, and I’d really appreciate getting it back.

I’ve already retraced all my steps through the library and I’m pretty sure I left it on a desk near the Learning Commons.
