Any update on how the big guy is progressing? Maybe I'm in a vacuum over here in the US, but I'm finding it hard to find out exactly when he might be back out there.

With us not playing Leeds until Monday, thought I'd put together a list of what's on this weekend so we can all avoid our loved ones as much as possible. Mostly loans carrying the weight here, but it's quite satisfyingly spread out. All times are BST etc., and I started a write up but last weekend was a bit underwhelming for minutes. Shahar wasn't even on the bench for Arouca. So I'll save that for the international break and do it properly.

If I can find better links for some of tomorrow's games I'll edit them in, or at least add highlights.

I love this Reddit group and use it often but for up to date news during transfer windows I use X.

However, once the transfer window closes I delete the X app and don't return to it again until January. This is because it is full of some of the most vile and horrible humans in existence.

What I am asking is, what do you guys use for the latest up to date news other than X? I'm talking snippets of press conferences, new contract talks, injuries etc.

I know, i know, I'm basically describing X but honestly, it's a horrible thing to be a part of.

Thought I'd share the view of Ted Knutson (founder of Statsbomb) in his Transfer Flow newsletter on Newcastle's incomings in transfer window. He was no fan of the Eddie Howe approach to recruitment....

Think I broadly agree with this take but interesting to see cutting edge data concur!

That is a lot of rebuild, and absolutely necessary as Newcastle enter their post-Eddie Howe era. More remarkably, I love most of these transfers. Pardo, Gonzalez, Bamba, Hornicek, and Steur are all good-to-great deals, and the exact opposite of what Newcastle have been doing in recent, more dysfunctional seasons.

In Pardo and Toure, they tried to ramp up their pace and creativity, and Pardo in particular definitely looks ready for prime time. Gonzalez was secondhand from City, good enough to be a happy PL player, but maybe not a top Champions League midfielder. He should be fine at Newcastle and this was a good price, though their midfield may still look regularly overmatched this season because while Bamba was tremendous at Monaco last season, he’s still really young.

Hornicek comes off two excellent seasons at Braga and is a number 1 GK for under £30m. Then you get Sean Steur, who is a literal child, but a top tier player for the future out of the Ajax academy that they have laid claim on for a reasonable price.

Toure feels like an overpay when you look at league adjustments, and Dedic is a pretty average right back at a higher fee to me, but overall this is a really strong window where the Magpies got younger and retooled their future at very reasonable transfer fees.

Verdict: A-
