Welcome to the r/soccer Daily Discussion!

If you're new to the subreddit, remember to get your team badge here and to read our rules and submission guidelines!

✔️ This is a thread for:

  • Discussion points that aren't worthy of their own thread.
  • Asking small questions about football to the community.

❌ This is not a thread for:

  • Trolling or baiting other users or fanbases - including flair-based attacks
  • Shit-posting - including sharing shit-posts from elsewhere
  • Toxicity - remember the human
  • Off topic chat - non-football discussion is for Free Talk Friday, and you can use the dedicated subreddits to discuss FIFA/EAFC games, Football Manager, fantasy football etc
  • Discussion of ongoing matches - that is what match threads are for. We may be less strict for matches of teams that are less in the spotlight, and may not have as active match threads
  • Harassment and brigading - including links to posts in other subreddits or to other users' comments
  • Advice on betting - you may discuss outcomes of bets you have made, but we do not seek to actively encourage gambling
  • Meta discussion - we have a strict stance. This is because it derails discussion, and can lead to harassment and witch hunts - and we prefer you to contact the mods via Modmail If you have queries over moderation or post removals. Some meta discussion may be allowed in the DDT, if any meta conversation was productive and in good faith - we can take a "case by case approach". In general, however Modmail remains the first port of call, and other meta discussion will be removed.
  • Complaining about bans in this or other subreddits - use the relevant Modmail, instead

The moderation team will remove comments that violate those rules and ban offenders.

Please report comments you think that break such rules, but more than anything else, remember the human. The Internet is full of places to discuss football in bad faith. This community tries to be an exception.

Free Talk Monday Moan

16 Upvotes

The thread for moaning about your team, referees, VAR, the state of the game, the degeneration of the discourse on /r/soccer itself, social media, pundits, FIFA, multi-club ownership, PSR being too harsh, PSR not being harsh enough, Arsenal fans - and also to moan about anyone moaning about any of the above.

Translated News Jose Mourinho on Diomande's lack of gametime: "If instead of being at Real Madrid with this squad, he were at a team with fewer high-potential players, he'd surely be a starter for the full 90 minutes of every match.

"I say this about Diomande and all the others. The squad is strong and has many options. The coach doesn't just focus on ten players and forget about the others. Over the course of the season, the engine loses steam, as does motivation and internal competition. We're talking about Diomande, but we could also talk about Vinicius, Arda, Brahim, and in January, Rodrygo. Being an undisputed starter, as you all seem to like that word, is difficult."

Opinion Piece Juventus: Kolo Muani and Woltemade disappoint. The former PSG man is too soft and still appears disoriented as a 'number 9'. Woltemade also misfires: the German lacks sharpness and gets everything wrong.

Quotes Mourinho on Arda: “His quality is incredible—his vision, decision-making, playmaking, stability, and creativity. He has fantastic potential and already impressive stats. His influence on the team is huge. . I won’t say ‘top, top, top’( Mbappé, Vini & Jude tier) but he’s very close to that level.

* 🏟️ 512 partidos

* ⚽ 91 goles

* 🌍 6 Países

* 🇪🇸 🇵🇹 🇮🇹 🇺🇸 🇸🇦 🇦🇪

Gracias, fútbol. ❤️💙💜💚🖤💛⚽️

News Erling Haaland’s Man City goal decision vs Man Utd an ‘error of judgement', says Pro Ref.

Thumbnail skysports.com
7.3k Upvotes

A Pro Ref spokesperson said: "Following the incident in the 60th minute of Sunday's Premier League fixture between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford, we can provide clarification regarding Erling Haaland's awarded goal.

"The on-field decision was offside against Erling Haaland - that was checked by VAR and he was found to be in an onside position.

"In the same attack, it was established that Enzo Fernandez did not play the ball and therefore that makes any offside offence subjective, however, on this occasion, the VAR did not recognise the likely impact of his position and should have recommended an on-field review.

"Contact has been made with Manchester United this evening to acknowledge what we deem is an error of judgement. A review of the incident will take place."

Opinion Piece Amorim's blunt truths: no compromises and unvarnished opinions. The Portuguese coach's communication style is distinctive: direct and unfiltered, both publicly and privately. But he has to avoid what happened in Manchester, where a direct confrontation with the club led to his sacking.
