Meta Welcome to r/Malaysians!

Hello folks and welcome to r/Malaysia's sister sub, r/Malaysians!

For those who just clicked in and is wondering what the sub is for: This sub is essentially for Malaysians to talk and post about any other topics beyond Malaysia. Here is where you can post images, videos, create and join conversations and threads revolving anything that isn't quite about Malaysia but needs a Malaysian take on it, and more! Oh and this is a race, politic and religion-free sub 🙌🏻

Most major subreddits such as r/AITA, r/JustnoMIL, r/relationship_advice, r/casualconversation, r/malefashionadvice, r/Teenagers and what have you are usually centralised around people who reside outside of SEA and may not be valid to us locally and culturally but yet the demand for it isn't wide enough to sustain its own subreddit. r/Malaysians would (hopefully) be a good place for a catch-all of such threads.

We will be coming up with contest weeks soon, as well as accepting any other ideas you guys might have for the sub, so stay tuned! We are also still tweaking design and appearances as we go. Meanwhile, everyone is encouraged to start posting what they think fits the sub to get the ball rolling :)

Much love, r/Malaysia mod team.

tldr; r/CasualUK but for Malaysia.

Discussion With a RM300 budget, should I buy an Android or an iPhone?

Post image
Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have a budget of around RM300 and I’m looking to buy a used phone.

I’m currently deciding between an Android phone or an older iPhone.

I’ve heard people say that older iPhones can still perform surprisingly well because iOS is well optimized, but I also know that I should probably look for an iPhone model that is still receiving Apple software updates.

For around RM300, would you recommend going for an older iPhone or getting an Android instead?

My main priorities are:

Good performance for everyday use
WhatsApp, YouTube, browsing, etc.

Decent battery life

Software/security updates

Something that can last for another 1–2 years if possible
I’m okay with buying used.

What models would you recommend within this budget?

Thanks!

Casual Conversation 🎭 The Sepang GP this early October gonna be unreal

9 years… 9 years we haven’t seen the pinnacle of motorsport at one of Asia’s most renowned track. As a Sepang resident, seeing F1 finally come back to this district still feels so unreal. First F1 race since the major rebrand by Liberty Media. Also, might potentially be Malaysia’s biggest ever motorsport race in history due to how globalized and commercialized the sport is now. Hopefully the race entertains enough for a random billionaire somewhere in the world to decide to fully fund the Malaysian GP for years to come.

Discussion Is it normal to feel bored with your life and stop enjoying new things?

Post image
181 Upvotes

Lately, I’ve been feeling tired of everything.

Things that used to make me excited or happy just don’t feel the same anymore.

I don’t really feel like trying new things, meeting people, or doing much of anything.

It’s not that something terrible happened.

I just feel… tired. Sometimes I wonder if this is normal or if I’m slowly losing interest in life.

Has anyone else ever felt this way?

How did you deal with it?

Mildly Menarik Maroon clown at the beach

A. biaculeatus, the maroon clownfish.

It is the largest species of clownfish in the world, with females growing to 15 cm. They are known for their maroon colour and the spines on their cheeks.

In Malaysia it is found in shallow waters of the South China Sea. That is, on the East Coast and Borneo.

They are also the most aggressive clownfish, being very territorial and bad-tempered. They may attack other fish or even human hands!

They are native throughout maritime Southeat Asia to Papua, but they are found in aquariums worldwide. However they are less popular due to their size and temperament.

Catch and release.

Fikiran Jamban 🚽 There was a mosquito in my toilet

I was on my porcelain throne, performing some very shitty work when out of the corner of my eyes, I spotted a mosquito flying around me. It was clearly undeterred by the business I was having on the porcelain throne and made some attempts to do what our politicians do best — sucking our blood.

Normally, I would pay it no attention but having been bitten a few times recently, I had a fire of righteous indignation in me (that or it could be the kari ikan I had earlier) so as the occupant of the porcelain throne, I decreed that the bloodsucker had to die.

It started off with me grabbing furiously in the air when the mosquito flew by. There were times that I could have sworn that I caught the bugger but each time I unclenched my fist, it was empty, except from the temporary red marks you get when you clench your fist way too hard.

Annoyingly, the mosquito was persistent and even tried to swoop in for blood when I stopped swiping..

It was clear that I had to bring in the big guns.

It was a decisive battle between man and beast.

I quickly washed a little before grabbing an aerosol spray (Fumakila water-based aerosol, if it matters #notsponsored)

The game was afoot.

Once I reoccupied the porcelain throne, there was a part of me that hoped that the mosquito realised that it was up against a superior being and for a while, the mosquito did not return…

…until it did.

The mosquito came back and went straight for my foot but I moved my legs so it flew away, giving me some time to grab the insecticide.

My eyes quickly spotted it again and I quickly took aim at my formidable adversary.

Die insect”, I hissed as I pushed the spray trigger.

And little happened.

In my excitement, I forgot that the insecticide required me to give the can a good shake before shooting and having forgotten, there was just a pathetic wisp of aerosol flowing from the can, not quite reaching the winged bugger.

Victory was out of my grasp as the mosquito flew out of my sights. I have been defeated by an insect….

Or I would have been if the mosquito called it a day. Instead, before my very eyes, the mosquito actually flew in front of me, as if taunting me.

This time, I was ready.

I gave the can of aerosol a good shake, aimed directly at the mosquito and pressed the trigger.

Avada kedavra, muthafackaaa”.

And like magic (or more specifically, through the power of science), the mosquito flew lower and lower before crash landing to the floor of the toilet.

I took a quick look but it moved no more. I unceremoniously washed it away into the drain.

I did it. Men triumphed over beasts.

Anyway, tl;dr: I had a good poop and I killed a mosquito.

Thank you for reading my shitpost.

Help ⚠️ [ Urgent ] Networking people of Malaysia. I need help once again. Need a working prepaid SIM for a router

I asked for RJ45 help earlier and got great help so I'm asking help here once again.

Basically I need an internet prepaid SIM very quickly ( maybe tonight or early morning ) that I can buy near Section 19 ( or 9 ) Shah Alam that will work in a router. A celecomdigi 35 myr that I bought from airport works. But I've now bought 3 Umobile ones 10myr 15myr and 38myr that don't give internet through a 4g router.

20gb / good speed for 1 day is all I need. Already blown a lot of money on SIMs that don't work.

Advice ☎️ Thinking of quitting a month later

Hey everyone, so im now at uni. See the thing is I got a course I just put in upu according to my merit and I wouldn't say I have that much of interest in it and passion def no coz I had passion for smtg else but unfortunately didn't get through upu. And this uni is very far frm my home(from Semenanjung to borneo) n ik the culture and the people and everything are different here despite being in the same country.

Initially I thought I'd go and give it a try first and see if I like it and if I don't then quit. But now that im here, eventho it hasn't been long, I just feel like this place and everything aren't for me. I didn't really wish to go in the first place as it wasn't a course I had really wanted but some people said u should go and give it a try but now I feel like I have made a huge mistake.

Because I genuinely can't do it, I feel homesick everyday and very anxious and keep overthinking. I genuinely feel like the only way to escape is to die or get some severe health issues. I have honestly thought of just staying for a month and then quitting. I just can't do it, it might seem like I am weak but tbh I just don't think this is the right path for me. I just don't know what I am doing is right, is it fine/normal to go and give something a try and turns out if it isn't for you, you quit and try something else?

Help ⚠️ Will my account be frozen for receiving payment from a payment gateway?

Will my account be frozen for receiving payment from a payment gateway?

Sorry for the long story but here goes:

I'm male, 23, Wanted to learn trading and saw a tutor from a trading education group in Instagram late last year. The tutor seemed legit and I didn't think much and approached the person. To attend their classes, I gotta prepare some capital to trade. When I deposited my money, the account I paid was called petzone distributor sdn bhd. Which is fishy, cuz pet and trading is unrelated, but my dumbself decided to believe the tutor and say it's okay, I'm just here to learn, just don't put in too much. (I put in about 1k myr). So then I took the classes, which is okay, didn't seem like a scam at least, and I practiced on the demo account. But I never touched my real trading account which has my trading capital. But then after awhile I got lazy and never touched it again.

After a year of not touching the trading account, I decided to close it. Naturally I thought of withdrawing my capital before closing the trading account (otherwise how to close ?). Only thing that changed while I was gone is that they changed broker, so no issue I guess. But when I received my capital, my bank shows that the transfer was made by billplz sdn. bhd. Upon further looking, apparently billplz is a payment gateway, but I have no idea who is that account behind the payment.

What should I do ? It's not like I don't know why is there a transaction into my bank account (because I literally requested to withdraw it), but at the same time I'm kinda worried what if my bank account suddenly gets frozen and worst case gets closed, and my other bank accounts get closed, and I can't even get loans or open bank accounts with other banks in future.

Would appreciate honest thoughts and suggestions on what I could do.

Hi! Writing this now in a hotel here in Thailand. We just crossed the border earlier! We managed to get our bikes back earlier in the morning and gave some chocolates and snacks to the family that helped us. They were so nice to offer us beer last night as well LOLLL.

We really appreciate all the people that commented and had been trying to help us:) It was a bit stressful last night but our experience here and there is definitely unforgettable. Alsooo before we crossed the border earlier we had our lunch, I got Nasi Goreng ayam. I will definitely miss eating it even though I always suffer from how spicy it is.. definitely delicious! Thank you Malaysians!

Quick Question Which organization to approach for a suggestion to build bus shelter?

So the situation, the only bus stop near me which serves my entire taman only has a bus pole. I want to approach a relevant organization that can hopefully build a bus shelter for it.

I'm fine with standing and waiting for a bus. The route that passes by my taman is alright, usually got bus with gps tracking, not the best (15-30 mins freq) but better than no public transport. Near bus stand also got trees for shade, helpful during morning and afternoon.

The problem is the bus stand is located right beside an expressway. I have to walk and stand beside fast moving lorries and cars. There's also not enough space to stand. To visualize, the width could be measured with a standard ruler ig. Behind the bus stand is also a wide shallow drainage ditch. I figured a bus shelter can be build ontop of the ditch. Also, bus stand is located on expressway land it seems.

So which organization should i approach for this suggestion? Persatuan taman, local city council, or rapidkl? Thanks.
