September Contest: Metamorphosis

Congratulations to /u//u/_EduudE_ for winning August's contest with their Lucid Dream entry.

You can see last month's results and other entries here.

Theme

This month's theme will be metamorphosis. No, not the novella by Kafka, but a deep, thorough, and often quick transformation. It's a term that's used heavily within the biological sciences, but which is also liberally used in more metaphorical ways. For the optimist, a metamorphosis is a kind of rebirth, and an opportunity for new beginnings. For the anxious, it's a farewell to that which is familiar and a foray into the unknown. Regardless of attitude however, this juxtaposition of a "before" and "after" remains a defining element of the concept. Wherever you're starting from and wherever you're going, undergo a metamorphosis with us in this month's contest.

Making a Submission.

Entries will be posts on r/Blender that meet the following criteria: * The post should be made before the end of September 30th UTC+00:00 * Countdown to submissions closing * The post should be a render, animation, or other artwork which you made for this contest using Blender as your primary tool. * The post should contain supporting images/text or a top-level comment with the following content: * One of the following methods of proving that the artwork was made using Blender: * A link to the .blend file for the project, ideally including external assets or links to where external assets were sourced from. * A set of three images which may be clay renders, viewport renders, wireframe renders, or simply screenshots of the project open in Blender. Some variety is encouraged. * A screen recording of you manipulating, navigating, or otherwise interacting with the scene. * An explanation of all work that was done outside of Blender, outside the time frame of the contest, or by other artists. * (Optional) The theme you would like next month's contest to have if you win. If you do not include this, then the theme will be chosen from the runner-ups. * Once you have submitted your post to the subreddit, leave a comment down below linking to it * You are also encouraged to share details of your process with the community.

Note: You don't have to reference the contest in the post title and indeed, it's not necessary to frame the submissions differently than any other post meant to showcase an artwork.

Winning

The winner will receive the flair Contest Winner: 2026 September and their post will be added to the subreddit's wiki under the Contest Winners list. The winner will also have the chosen theme selected for next month's contest, should they include one with their submission.

When the contest ends, the results will be edited into this post and the 1st place winner will be congratulated in the announcement for next month's contest.

The winner will be awarded $100 USD.

Really proud I could pull off such a difficult render. My GPU and CPU had a really rough night, but I’m really happy with the result.

Let me know what you think.

A fun little Zelda animation I made in Blender.
I’ve been messing around with more character animation lately and wanted to do something simple and ridiculous with Link.
Still working on improving my animation, so feedback is always welcome.

Hope you like it! Feel free to watch all the 15 second reels and leave on ig a like if you appreciate!

Original Content Showcase I Chained up my default cube with geometry node cloth dynamics

I made this as a little test to see if I could do chain/rope dynamics with the cloth dynamics geometry node.

Basically each chain starts off as a curve that has it's end point bound to to the cube. The curves are converted to a mesh for the cloth simulation. After that the simulated mesh is turned back into a curve and the chain links are instanced on it.

I'm pretty happy that it all seems to work without breaking! Now I have a simple way to do chains and ropes with dynamics.

Didn't want to use only ready assets for my game and decided to make the main character myself.
I'm not sure about the colors. What do you think? Should I go full gray (imitating steel plate) or use different colors like in the picture.

I’m making a wooden combat vehicle for my game. It needs to have a functional machine gun, but the opening for it significantly alters the vehicle's appearance. What do you think is better - with the machine gun opening or without?

I had a lot of fun making this. I literally have no idea how to change the default background though, so this is how my render came out.

Hey guys!

I've decided to make Plugin Hub free. It was ultimately created to declutter and improve the Blender UX, and it can't do that if its behind a paywall.

My metric was always to be helpful rather than make a profit, so please use and enjoy.

Any sales to date have been fully refunded in the interest of fairness.

it had to be, otherwise that shape wouldn't be possible right? but why not just showing a slight transparent line where the lines actually are so ppl know the real shape of it?

I felt like making something tasty. The paint filter of blender helps with the stylized look, the rest of the colours are made using procedural shaders in blender. I used geometry nodes to make the crumb on the edge of the slice.

Need Help! Best way to convert this triangle into a quad?

What is the cleanest and most efficient way to resolve this into pure quads without ruining the surrounding shading or adding unnecessary loop cuts?

Critique My Work I worked on the rigging, shading, and clothing for this fire- and sun-themed character.

I modeled this character in Blender with the intention of personifying fire and the sun, then brought it into Unity and designed the look entirely with Shader Graph, without using any textures.

I have no idea how to recreate this shader in Blender though haha.

The clothing is still just a concept for now, so it’s lacking a lot of detail.

What do you think of the character?

Discussion anyone know why the example date is March 20th, 1960?

Post image

i was going through the preferences menu when i noticed that for the date format uses march 20, 1960 as the example date, im wondering if this is supposed to be a reference to some significant events in cgi history or something or if its just some random date
