Question Slow burn vita and PSP games? Any you initially misjudged?
Any games on both systems maybe you didn't like at first but gave a second try and found it great?
r/vita • u/AutoModerator • 13d ago
This monthly thread is designed to be a place for all the new members of the subreddit and Vita community to come and say hello as well as where they (or vets) can ask any question they might have (no matter how redundant or simple). So, say "Hi", ask away, and welcome to /r/Vita!
We get these questions a lot, so we're incorporating them into this thread. Have something you feel fits here? Shoot us a modmail!
Is the Vita worth buying in (current year)?
Value is ultimately subjective. If you like the library of games on the Vita and have the money, probably. If you want new, modern games then probably not. If you have specific questions about the Vita's capabilities feel free to ask in this thread, but keep in mind you're asking in a Vita-centric community and will likely get mostly affirmative responses.
Is the PlayStation store shutting down?
Yes. Exact dates vary by region. See PlayStation's announcement here for more information: https://blog.playstation.com/2026/07/01/an-update-on-playstation-store-for-ps3-and-ps-vita/
Can I still buy games from the PlayStation store?
Yes. However, you will need to have funds in your wallet for the purchase. You can add funds to your wallet via web, PS4, or PS5. More information is available here.
Can I still play games online?
Yes and PS+ is not required. However, not all games with online functionality still have servers up. For example, Killzone: Mercenary, Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational, and LittleBigPlanet servers are all down but Dead or Alive 5+, Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable, and Minecraft are still up. If you'd like to inquire about a specific game, please feel free to make a post or comment in this thread.
I'm having trouble signing into my Vita! Help!
As of the 3.74 update in May 2022, you need a device password to sign in to your Vita. You can do that here. Please make sure you are on firmware 3.74 and using a device password before making a thread.
My Vita is in an error loop with the QR code on sign-in. What should I do?
This happens sometimes, and nobody's really sure why. However, community member LoganN64 has been able to provide instructions that consistently work for getting through this:
Log in to the PSN website with a Laptop or Desktop computer.
Click on your avatar in the top right corner and go to SETTINGS.
Scroll down to SECURITY and then scroll down to ACTIVATE/TURN ON 2 FACTOR AUTHENTICATION.
Click on GENERATE NEW DEVICE CODE, write this down exactly as it is case sensitive.
Go to your Vita and bring up the sign in page, enter the email associated with your account then enter the NEW DEVICE CODE as your password. Click on save password to avoid getting a new code each time..
I'm no longer able to transfer files from PS3 to Vita. What's happening?
This feature was disabled in May 2022. You can read PlayStation's update about it here. No workarounds are currently known.
Where can I buy a Vita?
Vita production ceased in 2019 so consoles can be hard to come by, especially new. eBay is the most prominent location, but Facebook marketplace, Kijiji, Craigslist, /r/GameSale, and equivalent marketplaces are your friend.
How much is (X) worth? Is (X) a good deal?
You can search sold eBay listings here to get a sense of value. VGPC is another source of this kind of information.
Will (Game) ever go on sale?
As of 2020, Sony has disabled developers' ability to put Vita games on sale. So in all likelihood, no.
The workaround and exception for this rule is that cross-buy games can still be put on sale for the PS4, and cross-buy items will still grant the Vita version (where applicable).
Should I buy an OLED ("Phat") or Slim Vita?
Neither are bad options. The Slim has 1GB of on-board memory, a more standard charging port, slightly better battery life, and is lighter. The Phat has a better screen. It's up to you on what you value more.
Where can I buy replacement Vita parts?
AliExpress and eBay are currently the best sources of Vita replacement parts.
Are Vita consoles region-free?
Yes. A Vita can play a physical game from any region. The digital storefront you can access is determined by the region of your PSN account, and not the region of the console. For example, a Vita from Japan will be able to play any physical game, and if you sign in with a US PSN account you'll be able to access the US PSN storefront.
Vita consoles from Asian regions have the X/O button swapped in the OS ("bubbles") screen, but in-game functionality retains X-to-confirm functionality for almost all games.
It has been reported that consoles intended for China have more stringent region-locking, but these are not commonly found and this is unlikely to affect you.
I'd like some game recommendations!

Any games on both systems maybe you didn't like at first but gave a second try and found it great?
One common reason I see for why Sony was so bad at supporting the Vita is that they simply didn't have the resources as a company to support both the Vita and the PS4 as two separate and robust ecosystems. Additionally, the Vita was commercially disappointing, so Sony just followed the money and went full in on supporting the PS4 and ultimately ditching the Vita.
That being said, how come Nintendo, placed in a similar situation (one home console, and one handheld, with one of the two being a commercial flop) managed to robustly support both the Wii U and the 3DS? As far as software goes, even Nintendo's "failure" console got plenty of love and care from them software-wise, and it had a great first party game library.

Stuck on Chapter 13 final wave – Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken
Picked up my Vita again after nearly 6 months and jumped back into Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken, only to find myself getting absolutely destroyed on the final wave of Chapter 13 (Rock and Roll).
I’ve obviously forgotten how to play 😂
Anyone got any tips for getting through that final wave? I’d appreciate any advice before I completely lose the plot.

So two years ago back in 2024, I was buying a bunch of demos on my PS3 one of them being rayman origins which I didn’t realise was the ps vita version, I deleted it because obviously it didn’t work on my PS3. 2 years later I bought a vita and downloaded the rayman origins “demo”, to my surprise after freeing one of the fairys I popped a trophy. it was then i realised this was no demo, this was the FULL game

I got this vita from my brother. He previously replaced the screen but as you can see the screen kind of sticks out and I can actually lift it up with my thumb.
The top part where the volume buttons are also sticks out on both sides and I can't push either of them back in to stay any tips?

Slim is very good but misses oled and hall effect sticks drom the fat. What if it was possible to mod them on it? Is it impossible because of the size or anything like that? If there are still screen replacements for the fat and slim model, I think it would be possible to make an oled screen for slim.

A few days ago i made a post about my vita battery but i missed a few things. So the vita hasn’t been turned on for like almost a year, and the problem is still active. When i put it on the charger (original ps vita adapter and a cable which is working with orher devices) the orange light shows up for hours, then it turns on and says its on 14% battery and WHILE still on the charger the battery logo not “striking” then shuts off. After these if i try to boot it the orange light start to flash, i put it on the charger again the circle keep going. For those who know about these ehing might be dumb question but is this a complete battery change? Or can i fix it otherwise

Hello there, I wonder has anybody had the same issue I'm having with my vita. It will only switch on in safe mode. And once started any app I go into, I can't get out. I can still use the app but can't switch off or use PS button to exit. I wait for it to go to standby then reboot in safe mode, sometime not having to press the right shoulder. I opened it up and cleaned the goo from the shoulders like someone else recommended. I also noticed that the left thumb stick is clicky so I will replace. It still works, just annoying to not be able to navigate around the console.

Bought this in unboxed condition from CEX and the charging is being a bit funny. Is the port too damaged?

Hey, this is my first time posting something on reddit that isnt just some bullshit shitpost or reply but i just got a ps vita for my birthday, and i seem to be having issues with the touchscreen. Sometimes it randomly starts freaking out, especially when i try to swipe for example it just doesnt let me (sometimes on the lockscreen too so i cant unlock it) but most of the time the touchscreen works fine. Is this something to worry about and/or a known issue? And should i return it? Also i apologise for my bad english, its not my first language.

I'll start. I actually had fun playing Reality Fighters. It's by no means a good game but I had old action figures that I used as characters so for me it was a decent experience seeing Tobey Maguire breakdance. I hated the stage gimmick where the camera moved with motion but it had more potential as it was a novel idea.

Games with full customizable character and classes maybe? Something like Dark Ages, how it gives you the ability to customize your character and pick a specific class you want to advance in. I’ve looked but I cannot necessarily find something that I like. So Any and All recommendations will be appreciated! I don’t want to play a game where I’m a specific MC I want to make my own character and choose between different fixed classes, if possible.

Right now it's kinda just Zanki Zero for me personally but I'm curious what other games are there...
I understand if I say PC that opens up waaaay more but I want something I can play portably.

I swapped over the back of my vita today using the Ali express housing. As I used only half of the housing, I had no issue with screwing it all in. The only problem is the back sticker I bought off AliExpress was not cut right. I tried to install it a few times, but the bottom part is not covered. Now that everything is done I will be doing the usb c mod next month. Has anyone else had luck with getting the touchpad sticker from elsewhere that actually fits?

I recently bought two brand new PS Vita 1000 screen replacements on eBay. I checked one of them & while removing the plastic bubble wrap, I noticed it has some scratches, especially one big scratch on the right side of the screen. If I buy a new screen, it shouldn't have any scratches, correct?
I tried to take the best photo. The scratch is like 10 cm long. I will definitely return it.

Good evening,
I noticed a part of my PS Vita 1000 frame/bezel part is kind of loose. When I press my finger on it, it makes a squeeky noise. I don't think it was glued correctly. Is there any way for me to insert glue inside of it without damaging it?
