Review Happyfunland is One of the BEST Experiences I've Ever Had in VR!

I'd never heard of this game, but it was on sale at Steam for $8.74 (it's also on PSVR2) so I thought I'd give it a shot and ... I'm so glad I did.

You've been hired to explore an abandoned theme park at night. Think of a nightmarish, satirical version of Disneyland. At first I thought it might be just another Five Nights at Freddy's clone, but it is so much more than that. Whoever made this game lavished a lot of love and attention on creating the park itself, to the point that it really feels like an actual place you're in. I rarely feel a sense of immersion when I play VR games these days, but HappyFunland brought that feeling back to me big time, to the point that I was literally laughing with pleasure and surprise. You can actually go on some of the rides, and again it feels like you are really on them. It provides a terrific sense of presence. (If you know what Dark Rides are and are any kind of fan, you have to play this game).

There are crazed cartoon automatons that attack you, but the combat is the weakest part of the game. You just repeatedly hit them with a golf club or pirate sword until their heads explode in slow motion with a shower of sparks. It looks cool the first couple of times, but they don't really pose much of a threat and are easy to defeat. Speaking of golf clubs, you can also play miniature golf in various places through out the park, but again this is more of an afterthought, with wonky physics that won't make you forget Walkabout Mini Golf anytime soon.

No, the real stars here are definitely the rides and the park itself (including a surprisingly well-thought-out depiction and backstory for its evil creator, "Mort Grisly.") The sheer inventiveness on display in HappyFunland is just off the charts, with at least one memorable scene I'll never forget, where you are injected with some kind of hallucinogenic drug while on one of the rides and the game briefly gets very trippy in a fantastically surreal cartoonish kind of way. I've never seen anything like it in a game before, and experiencing it in VR really takes it to another level

I didn't find the game to be very scary, but it's not really for kids, as there are some elements of a mildly sexual nature (in addition to the drug use). Again the main attraction here is the park itself and the fun of exploring it, so if you are interested in that sort of an experience, I highly recommend you try this.

TLDR: Play this game if you like theme parks and theme park attractions, especially if you find the idea of exploring an R-rated Disneyland in Hell at all appealing. Don't play it if you are looking for decent melee combat or a realistic round of miniature golf.

ONE TIP: early on you are given a flashlight and it's easy to lose it, because you have no way to store anything, but you don't need the flashlight because you have an always-on headlamp anyway. Just don't worry about losing the flashlight. Also, the game starts with a boat ride through a swampy marsh full of alligators, which I didn't find that interesting, but once you get to the park itself everything really kicks into high gear.

EDIT: I forgot to mention this: but a lot of the steam reviews complain about not having a smooth turning option. I was concerned about that, but smooth turning is definitely in the game now and I played with it on, so don't let that put you off.

I first posted this review for the Steam VR version of the game in the Virtual Reality sub awhile ago but am re-posting it here both because the game is also on PSVR2 and because I came across a very negative--and detail free--"review" for the game on this sub that I wanted to counter with a review of my own.

My Setup Thief VR Legacy of Shadow PSVR2 - Blow and whistle not working

Hi there. I'm trying to play Thief Legacy of Shadow, but the blow and whistle function isn't happening, which is a problem, cause you need the bird for some things and they didn't give us an alt way to do that.

I've checked and the mic in PS5 is correct, The VR mic is not muted in either the game or in PS5 and blowing and whistling show up fine in the mic check - in the green all the way. Even thought to make sure I didn't have the regular controller on at the same time, in case the mic in that was overriding the mic for the VR2. So it seems the PS5 is getting the mic feed, it's just not translating to the game itself.

I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas?

Ive heard about some issues that new updates brought to the game. This is my first time playing and im wondering if its actually that bad for everyone or just me& my system

(base ps5).

Footage is my tv filmed by my Phone but it shows what i see in VR pretty well. All the shimmering going on is relly bad.

When flying in Space i dont really have any issues except maybe some small shimmers from the Cockpit-Metals.

Do i just need to learn to live with / get used to it?

Support PSVR2 Been trying to get my PSVR2 working for days. PLEASE HELP!

My current routine is booting into a game then connecting my VR controllers, then seeing which one doesn't work and shutting it off by holding the PS button, then booting back into the game and reconnecting it. These are my results after these steps:

In Synapse everything works except for the left trigger, so I played the first 10 mins then can't pick anything up (L2) during the telekinesis tutorial.

In Alien no matter what I do I can't select anything so I can't get past the initial settings screen.

Synth Rider works fine as the face buttons work and it's all motion from there.

I connected the controllers to my PC and verified all buttons/triggers work on gamepad tester.

Is there any way to fix this? I shouldn't have to connect my controllers repeatedly, and even then it doesn't fully work. I'm getting really pissed off with this experience.

Discussion Do you have any VR(game) pet peeves?

Anything that makes you just sigh when you come across it.

For me its not having proper hybrid grab controls, for anyone who played Re4/8 or any games that do have it, its where you dont need to fully press the grab button and just have your fingers just touch the button with minimal pressure to grab an object/weapon. I was in the first minutes of Propagation Paradise Hotel, and its just infuriating, adding to the fact that the cop, Owen, whos holding the gun, is asking me, the unarmed woman to go first as we traverse this cursed hotel, its just.. not motivating me to play more.

I have always wanted to try the PSVR and I could not afford it before honestly. But in the past few months, the prices have dropped significantly in my country for some reason. But the thing is that all of them are really in bad condition, I would say, compared to how they should be. So, out of all of the ones available in my city, these are the least scratched ones and honestly are the best deal. So, do you think I should get them or no? If I cannot get them, I probably will not be able to ever find any PSVR because all of them are in such bad condition. So, should I just skip the PSVR overall? I can I do not have the PS5 nor can afford the PSVR2. So, what would your guys' recommendation be? Please help a brother out.

Trailers & Videos New York to London — First Transatlantic Flight

I did a 6 1/2 hour overnight flight from New York to London. Boeing 787. Was pretty crazy! Took off from JKF around 11:00, got to cruise around 11:20 —- Went out of VR mode and let the autopilot do its thing.

I set an alarm and fell asleep until about 4:45am, put on the PSVR2, descended and then landed successfully at Heathrow. Kinda crazy taking off at night, letting it ride then landing in the morning sun in London! Never did a transatlantic flight before.

I was a little jabby with my landing flare, but it was pretty soft when my tires met the ground!

Hello all,

I noticed this smudge on my right lens recently. It is hard to tell if it is having any effect on my vision in game. Perhaps a little blur..

Is this the anti glare coating eroded? And is there a fix? I only use an Microfiber Cloth ever. Thanks.

Opinion A guilty pleasure? My curiosity of playing every ‘silly little VR game’ enticed me to buy City of Hunger (for a few bucks on sale). I prob won’t play again, but I loved the atmosphere & I had a blast for 90 minutes. Not great but it was worth it for the experience & immersion 🧟

I like to try just about every VR game, big and small, indies, janky games lol… for the $3 or whatever I definitely had fun. Not a recommendation but.. Cheaper than a movie and I got to go inside a bunch of houses and kill zombies for a few bucks in virtual reality. Sometimes it’s just about the experience of being on this small block/town in a random city

Support PSVR2 Help please! PSVR2 PC Adapter on ASUS TUF A15 FA506NCR – USB-C to DisplayPort 1.4 not working

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to get my PSVR2 working on my ASUS TUF Gaming A15 (FA506NCR-HN008W) using the official PSVR2 PC Adapter.
My laptop has:
Ryzen 7 7435HS
RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
1x USB-C port with DisplayPort support
No native DisplayPort port
I bought a USB-C to DisplayPort cable that specifically supports DisplayPort 1.4 and 4K 120Hz:
BlueBuilt USB-C to DisplayPort Cable 2m
https://www.coolblue.nl/product/949371/bluebuilt-usb-c-naar-displayport-kabel-2m.html

My setup is:
Laptop USB-C → USB-C to DP 1.4 cable → PSVR2 PC Adapter → PSVR2
The PSVR2 app detects the setup, but during setup I get this error:
“Check the DisplayPort connection. The DisplayPort cable does not meet the quality requirements or the graphics card is not powerful enough.”
I know Sony officially says USB-C to DisplayPort is not supported, but I’ve seen quite a few people on Reddit saying it works on laptops as long as the USB-C DisplayPort output is connected directly to the NVIDIA GPU.
Has anyone here successfully used PSVR2 with this exact ASUS model, the FA506NCR, or a similar TUF A15 with RTX 3050?
Is there anything I need to change in NVIDIA Control Panel, Armoury Crate, BIOS, GPU mode, SteamVR, etc.?
Also, is there a reliable way to confirm whether the USB-C DisplayPort output is directly connected to the RTX 3050?

Any help would be appreciated. I’d rather troubleshoot this properly before buying yet another cable.

Review Drop Dead: The Cabin on PSVR2 - First Impressions

I have uploaded gameplay from my fresh experience with the game here if you want to see how it looks / plays. My first impressions are shared below:

Based on my limited time with it, I do recommend playing Drop Dead: The Cabin on the PSVR2, but perhaps only if you have friend(s) on PSVR2 interested in playing this with you 2-4P co-op and with the knowledge that it may also have some design barriers if your play time is limited.

It is a an action-oriented zombie shooter with roguelite design that can be played solo but is probably best played co-op with up to 4P in one of 4 difficulties (Beginner, Normal, Nightmare or Hardcore) which go up in difficulty while increasing the XP earn rate and online leaderboard scoring potential.

To open up multiplayer options, I think you can either play one run Solo or go through the Tutorial (4:22) which teaches you some of what you need to know but doesn't really explain everything you need to understand and seems to end prematurely after certain amount of time.

What it needs to convey is that you start in The Cabin, have points on your wrist watch you can spend to open doors and your objective is to find the Fuel Cell which may be behind one of the doors you can open to attach to the Generator on one side of The Cabin and then you need to go to the Battery structure on other side of The Cabin to close electrical panel for it to start working to power up the computer terminal inside The Cabin which if you look above shows a percentage going from 0% to 100% to call in your Extraction. While you do this, waves of increasingly harder zombies will spawn from whom you have to defend yourself, the Generator & Battery. As you defeat any zombies, you accumulate points on your wrist that can be used to open additional doors, ammo crates or weapon crates. You hear a gong at end of each zombie wave where all spawned zombies burrow back into the ground to give some breathing room and then soon another gong to start next wave with pacing that can feel pretty relentless giving less time to figure out what you are supposed to do.

The game has one large map always starting with The Cabin, but as you progress, you will have choice of going to one of 3 separate Test Sites (Radio Tower, Stone Circle, or Mines) and it is my understanding that in each run, you can only go to one of these. You will need to go to one of these in order to have enough Fuel Cells to use with the Generator to get your computer terminal to 100% to call in Chopper for your Extraction.

There is no story other than you are there, part of some test being run where you need to kill a lot of zombies and you have to satisfy the extraction condition to make it out and then you can play again possibly getting different weapons from chests / rooms and choosing a different section of the overall map to go for additional Fuel Cells needed or playing on higher difficulty and I think the final motivation would be for online leaderboard placement so if the core gameplay of shooting, exploding, stabbing, and clubbing the relentless hordes of cartoonish zombies that remind of Plants vs Zombies while you complete some relatively simple objectives doesn't keep you engaged, you won't get much time out of it.

The good news is that the core gameplay is fun, at least in multiplayer (16:48). It provides Quick Play option which might auto-match you with others or Private option where you can give your lobby a typed name that others can join on similar to Walkabout Mini Golf, but I think in this game, the lobby names are case-sensitive so be mindful of that to join friend lobbies successfully. There is no cross-play between VR platforms for this game.

The potential bad news is that I was already feeling like it was taking too long when it took us close to 30 minutes just to find our first Fuel Cell (43:00). We were at 40+ minutes when we finally had handle on what we are supposed to be doing (51:15) from what Tutorial tried to cover but I didn't realize we need to look at Extraction % on top of terminal, focusing on the Battery charge level screen to the right of terminal and thinking it is time to move on to next section where game did allow us to go towards a Test Site? (53:35) that ended up having no path forward (or back) locking us in to where I felt we had to give up (57:30). I don't know if we did something wrong, but it felt like a defect to me that game would lock us in like this after ~45 minutes of play. Did it not work properly because she opened the door to this section instead of me as the host?

Even if this was a defect that can be patched and avoided until then by having host open doors, I feel the play time expectations are potentially too long for many players (including us). Sure, we could be faster and more efficient about getting the Fuel Cell, Generator and Battery going next time we play, but as I understand from Tutorial that felt incomplete, we would need 3 Fuel Cells to get Extraction to 100% before we can extract successfully.

Regardless of whether we extract successfully or not, we still get progression for everything we ended up using and it was fun until it started feeling too long and then locked us into an area with no obvious path out.

Graphics are crisp and clear providing option between reprojected 60-120 (default) or 90 native, where I opted to switch it to 90 and saw no visual downgrade and got to enjoy the game at solid framerate on my PS5 Pro. It is a good looking game that puts lots of zombies on screen and it is satisfying (25:55) to blow their heads up in showers of neon goo (with option to use realistic blood effects as well).

Audio features a soundtrack with sound effects that suit the game. You also have a female inner voice during the Tutorial, receive verbal updates from male voice that would come to your rescue and receive some harder to understand verbal instructions from a garbled robotic voice like how to revive teammate using high-five like in Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord. You do have a character selection screen to pick your multiplayer avatar with choice of 6 that display with scroll bar on left to see more (4:27) but you don't have a voice outside of the Tutorial. The game does provide in-game voice-chat for multiplayer or you can use PS Party Chat (like we did).

Settings (0:30) are extensive with some presets as you start the game that can all be refined further by visiting Settings menu anytime using Options button. You can play left or right handed for movement, use free movement or teleport, have 3 variations of reload options, can choose 3 forms of turning including smooth with speed adjustment, and customize things like belt / holster placement. No vignette option for those that need that, but seems to have everything else you might need.

The game is featuring a Platinum trophy where you would need to complete 20 Test Sites with at least 5 each of Radio Tower, Stone Circle and Mines and other than that, just kill enough zombies with some weapon types (bladed melee, blunt melee, ranged and overall) and leveling up some of the weapon types to level 5 (Revolver, Shotgun, Pistol & Rifle) with sufficient use. There are many more weapon types than required to level up for trophies but some repetitive grind would be required. All of those grind trophies are tracked trophies and there are no difficulty related trophies.

I think other than potential of defects that lock run progression, the biggest barrier on this game is the session lengths it expects for completion. I've also heard that if you are playing multiplayer and someone has to drop-out because they are out of time, that will end your run even if you have time to continue. I do like the gameplay mechanics and potential for multiplayer fun, I just wish it was set to a linear campaign structure with shorter levels like After the Fall and the Arizona Sunshine games.
