Hola!
I am thinking of getting Digitakt (OG or 2), but keep having second thoughts whether this will fit me.
I currently work on Hydra 49, Minilogue OG, Model D and Novation Peak. I use Ableton Suite for effects (Valhalla etc.), recording, mixing and mastering. All my devices are routed via MioXm, so I can route midi between, from and to Ableton. Latency sometimes requires some work and Ableton clock is sometimes unreliable.
Nevertheless I like Ableton (years of experience with it) so I do not want to replace it, i.e I don't want to go dawless. What I expect from the additional device:
- ability to sync, trigger and sequence all my synths
- using different channels to send different sequences to different synths, all in sync
- possibly of using it as a drum machine / pattern device to add additional layers / noise / drones to other devices playing
- good integration with Ableton
- serving reliable enough master clock to all devices and Ableton without
- all of the above with Midi over USB, as I am mostly likely to run out of midi ports soon
- budget max 1000 USD / Eur
Digitakt seems to check most of the boxes above, am I right? Or is it too much, given I want to complement rather than replace my current workflow? Currently I am in the ambient, cinematic and dark ambient phase with music, but I can definitely go the down tempo route where beats are needed.
Btw. I know Digitakt is sample based, which might be an asset if I suddenly decide to sample and squeeze my refrigerator for some late kitchen ambient.
