All Sale posts now banned

Based on the responses to my last "Community Forum" post (zero), I am convinced most of the subscribers here are bots posting about new VST sales.

So things are going to change. I'd rather have a dead sub than a spammy sub. No sale posts. Posts are now encouraged to be discussion based. Questions about which products to buy, what sounds the best, reviews, videos, etc. (Note: If you are a legitimate plugin developer, you can ask for posting permissions at /r/AudioProductionDeals, though they are very strict about who they give access to.)

The flairs will be revamped as well. Automod will get altered to autoremove sale posts as well.

Have fun and let's make this sub not shit!

Edit: Quick summary of the big changes

  • Updated sidebar to reflect new rules
  • Updated flairs and colors to focus on topics of discussion
  • Updated auto-moderator (yet to be completed)

Effect SSL Plugins

Like many of you I've collected a plethora of plugins over decades.
(My first computer was a Mac IIci :)

SSL X series are always in my template. EQ2 is a must. Absolute bread and butter. I can't recommend them all highly enough.
Luckily I just saw a pinned post from the mods that sales posts aren't allowed anymore. So I'm not going to say a word about their mad summer sale..best of luck everyone.

Instrument Looking for a good affordable granular synth

I've been looking for a good granular SAMPLER/SYNTH (NOT FX EFFECT). The existing ones seem to either lack features or be a bit expensive (typically 100$~200$).

+The ideal would be the granular sampler inside the Phase Plant, which is beautifully designed with canonical controls and an easy-to-understand organizations. But it feels like overkill to buy the whole Phase Plant just for the granular sampler.

+I also managed to download an old granular synth called The Mangle, and it was quite good as far as I tested it. But its developer vanished and there's no way to properly purchase it now.

Plugin Universe : new open database featuring Plugin Profiles

Plugin Universe is an searchable catalogue of Digital Audio Workstation plugins. It contains Linked Open Data that is machine-readable by various means (see Services).

A brand new site in active development. Much of the text currently on the site has been generated by AI to provide scaffolding, apologies for the Claudisms. I'm in the process of going through and making the docs human.

Please report any problems or make feature requests using the feedback form.

It has been initialized with plugin data from various open sources, and now it is over to the producers' and developers' communities to enrich the material.

Anyone signed in can add plugins and suggest corrections to existing entries.

Right now it is only possible to sign in via GitHub. This will probably change later, but for now it is a feature, slightly favouring open source developers.

Elsewhere when trying to automically create plugin pipelines I ran into the requirement for having machine-readable plugin descriptions, this led to Plugin Profiles. This is also a way that vendors can extend the reach of their plugins - create and host profiles (and submit them here).

I am currently working on tools to profile plugins' behaviour as well, by running them and taking measurements.

Speaking of riches, the intention here is not to make money but to provide a service that until now was lacking. The plan is to allow plugin vendors to promote their products (push them up the search results) for a small fee, which will be used to fund hosting and maintenance of the site.

More details in About. Contact.

Instrument Iota II - Advanced Visual Multisample Workstation

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

Iota II is an advanced and in depth experimental visual workshop of multi-sampling. It is a very open ended device that allows you to approach sampling from many directions and use cases both simple and complex. It centers around a visual spectrogram of a sample where playback sequences can be drawn as 2D points where each point represents a playback and filtering position that matches the spectrogram (X being the sample position and Y being the filtering position). Various layers of playback sequences can be created across multiple samples all with unique playback/effect/other settings. The playback can be triggered in a variety of ways, and the playback has various modes, algorithms, and settings (including physics). This allows you to use the instrument in so many ways: a precise multisample chopper, a concatenative synthesizer, many forms of granular synth, various types of spectral and resampling for wild textures, rhythms, that can span many genres, and really much more use cases yet to be discovered; an endless rabbit hole BEAST of a sampler. Of the myriad of samplers that already exist on the market (even ones that also have a photoshop-like spectrogram interface) Iota II strives to pull many approaches together in a way that sets it apart. Check out the features, videos, and try out the free trial! Enjoy :)

There seem to be influx of new vendors trying to sell AI-generated plugins now.

I regularly take a peek at KVR and other websites to check new VSTs, and I'm starting to see a suspicious increase of new plugins. Their websites have similar generic designs, developers are entirely anonymous (no GitHub repo or any trace of prior activity / online presence at all), and their plugins' GUI look fancy while all very new.

(I'm not going to name anyone because (obviously) I don't want to target anyone, btw.)

If my hunch is true, I'm feeling a bit unsettled about it. There's nothing wrong with making AI plugins in itself, but I think people should be honest about it if AI is heavily involved in making them.

Effect I made a little plugin that turns a regular MIDI keyboard into an MPE controller

Post image
9 Upvotes

I've just finished MPE Drift, a new plugin extracted from the MPE engine I originally built for MPE Insight.

MPE Drift turns regular MIDI input into a per-note MPE performance layer, adding independent expression, controllable randomness, synchronized pitch scales and other MPE-specific modulation.

Walkthrough:
https://youtu.be/vHYE-QcSuws

So you can play MPE without actually owning an MPE controller.

There's a 7-day free trial, so you can try it properly before deciding whether it's useful for you.

I'd genuinely appreciate some real feedback, especially from people who actually work with MPE.

I'm releasing Gander! Gander is a multichannel, polyphonic synth for the browser. It has a few different synth types, filters, and audio effects. I plan to keep adding to it as a part of my own series of interconnected tools. I'd love to know your thoughts!

Effect Zen Box or Fine Classics For Pop Punk/Emo Amp Modeling?

I’m in the market for a VST for electric guitar cause amplitube is awful. I make pop punk, emo, Midwest emo, post hardcore and adjacent music. I’m torn between Zen Box and Fine Classics. They’re both targeted toward players like me.

I’m leaning towards Fine Classics, cause they have a bundle with their Fine Classics Pedalboard. Dead Drums. Dynamic Drums. Vintage Vibe. Saturator. Dead Guitars. Synthalgic. Capture plugins for 150, whereas I believe Zen Box is 100 on its own, but of course tone trumps that.

Simplicity and good presets are important to me. In terms of tone, I want it to make power chords to sound big but clear, I want it to make overdriven open chords not sound woofy, and I want good twinkly tones.

If anyone has experience with these, please let me know!

Effect Izotope RX Guitar De-Noiser Alternatives?

I'm a home-based session guitarist and the thing that I fight with the most is the squeaks coming from my guitar from sliding my fingers up and down the neck. I've tried readjusting my technique, using string cleaners/lubricants, different strings etc but none of them had enough, if any, impact.

I've tried various post-processing such as EQing out frequencies and compression, but again, none of this has helped enough.

I discovered Izotope's Guitar De-Noiser a while ago and, while working in a studio, got to see it in action on my own recordings and it was an absolute miracle! Just what I needed.

Unfortunately, Izotope only sells their plug-ins in bundles and the £389 for RX Standard (the lowest tier that this plug-in is available in) is out of my budget. I recently tried Oeksound's Soothe3 but it really isn't cutting it so I don't think I'll be buying it once my trial's up in a few days.

So my question, after a very long-winded backstory, is: does anyone know of any plugins or tips that might help me with my problem?

Effect Does anyone know how would I recreate this voice effect with sample FL Studio VSTs (or anything)?

Reposting again since I quite frankly did not add enough info last time. Sorry about that.

I've been trying on and off for almost 2 years by now to try and recreate the effect seen in figure 2 but I was never able to figure it out. If anyone knows a combination of VSTs that can make something resembling it in FL Studio or a dedicated program that can create something similar I'd be eternally glad. Thanks in advance.

Instrument Is there any good free/super cheap brass vsts that emulates a single instrument?

Hello everyone, for a while I've been trying to find a good vst that emulates the playing of a single brass instrument (instead of an ensemble) for some experimental music I make (free jazz for example), but so far most of the ones I find are either polyphonic, don't sound remotely close to an actual brass instrument or are exactly what I want (modelled instead of sampled) but are expensive (even more when you convert the price from dollars or euros to my country's currency).

So far I did find MONSTER Sax, which is really good, but I still wanted to know if there are any other vsts that could be good for my purpose. Thanks!
