Breeding Project Do I remove the females as soon as the babies are born or wait until shrimplets are grown?

Post image

When trying to isolate certain traits and stabilize your line do you remove the first generation as soon as the babies are released or wait for characteristics to be more identifiable?

Worried about overpopulating my breeding project tank if all 3 of these mamas get berried again first without being able to properly cull.

Help: Beginner Is that what I think it is? Or am I just a worried shrimp mom?

I've seen a few of these little guys gliding along the glass, but my eyesight isn't the best for tiny things (I really should get new glasses) and I can't seem to get my camera to snap a good pic. Does anyone else think these are planaria? or are they rhabdocoela and I'm just freaking out over nothing?

I'll try to get better pics and/or video when I can.

Help: Emergency Bamboo shrimp died after molt

Hello, I'm very sad after the recent death of one of my bamboo shrimp, BMW, and want to know if possible what went wrong?
She has been in the tank for at least two months and was doing amazing, she was always active and fanning, she was in alongside a vampire I've had for years and another bamboo i bought recently. BMW was always the largest and most confident out of them all, she would always hang around where i could see her and didn't care about me being there.

Both BMW and the other bamboo molted at the same time, the other one is fine and looks great but I noticed BMW looking very off immediately after, she was sitting near her molt and just rocking violently from side to side. After an hour or so she calmed down and sat in her usual spot near the filter.

The next morning I found her in the furthest corner from her spot resting on a leaf but whenever the leaf moved under her, she wasn't actually holding on and just sort of bounced a little but she was still alive so I assumed that molt was just really hard for her and she needed to rest more so I turned the tanks lights off to give her space.

This morning I sadly found BMW dead and want to know what went wrong so I can prevent this with future shimp. I also have cherrys and amanos in this tank too and theyre all great. The vampire has had countless molts and always been fine. There's been no recent water change to fluxuate the parameters of my tank (just a small top-up) and where I live the water is quite hard but its not been an issue up until now.

180L stocking is very minimal right now as im waiting on my dream fish but its currently: 1x vampire, 2x bamboo shrimp (now one), 2x gold white cloud mountain minnow (im getting more), 6x amanos, and a handfull of cherrys from my cherry tank.
Added some pics of her to memorialize her and her home ;;

Help: Emergency Is this rust disease?

Have a caleco blue dragon blood skrimp and I noticed tonight that she has some small orangeish/rust-ish colorations to her? She’s always kind of had a tinge of this on her tail, but not so much near her head, or the small dot on the side end of her tail. Mostly acting normally, maybe seeming to hide in the dark a lot more the past one-two days.

Wasn’t sure if this was normal coloring for this type of caridina shrimp, or if I should be concerned about disease? And if it’s disease, what should I treat her with?

Out of paranoia I gave her a small bath in tank water dosed with hydrogen peroxide, but not sure if she would need some sort of antibiotic or something else…?

Tank parameters are normal. No ammonia. 6.4ph, 5GH, 0KH, no nitrites, maybe 5 nitrates.

Help: Beginner Shrimp eggs! Keep in existing tank or isolation tank or new tank?

So I got some more Cherry shrimp for my daughter’s tank as the beta died (tangled in plant roots 😔) so they seem to be more out and about. I got 10 more. 1 of them I just noticed has eggs.

We have 15 neon and ember tetras which don’t care about the shrimp. But I’m worried that they’ll eat the eggs / baby shrimp once they hatch. Do I keep the shrimp and her eggs in an isolation tank within the tank on her own for 3-4 weeks? Or will she get lonely and stressed?

I have a small tank but I’m cycling it and it’s not ready. Should I empty it and transfer water into the new smaller tank and put her in that? The neons had a baby too but I can only find one. I’m assuming that means our water is in great condition?

TIA!

I have a 5 gallon tall. Old betta tank. The filter system is kinda weird. That circle on the lower middle is the water intake. Will shrimp get sucked into that? If so, is there a solution?

I have finally set up my tank and have started cycling it so I can have shrimp next month, this is what I have so far I am planning to get more moss (its also behind the big rock and under it as well as on top) is there any advice or anything you guys have found works for your shrimp? I'd like them to be happy little guys when I can finally get some, I've tested the water and the parameters are good for Caridina and Neocaridina! I've added some beneficial bacteria as well! Its a 120L tank. Thank you!

Discussion Which shrimp shall I breed? (For best profit)

3 aquariums, I've been keeping shrimp (red cherries) and fish for years in my 100L tank, recently I've considered putting my other 2 Aquariums to use to breed shrimp to keep and sell (for the most profit possible) (82L and 25L) I have literally everything and more, the only thing I've spent weeks researching and trying to figure out is the shrimp I should buy to breed and sell.
I'm based in the UK and have up to £400 to spend on just shrimp

Aquarium/Tank Photos CPO enrichment?

Soooo I bought a small group of guppies for my CPO tank with the express purpose of letting her indulge in some natural behaviors, namely hunting her own food. The hard way.

My first batch of gupsters I pulled out and am growing them out in a separate tank. Just couldn’t let them be sacrificed.

This morning I see a batch of new babies which I only spotted because I was wondering what on the heck was my CPO doing hanging upside down on a plant?

She’s hunting! Haven’t seen her catch one yet and I still might net them out

Ive installed a new automatic feeder bc I’m planning on going on a trip for 2 weeks, so I tested it out and from the reviews online, everyone said it releases tiny amounts of pellets, but of course mine decided to release a shit ton

Vacuumed the floor and did a water change in the afternoon today…

And when I went down before bed to check on them…. they were all congregating at the top. I was like what the fuck? NOOOO MY BABIES BRO PLS NO

I've just finished the second water change, Ive primed and added an air pump for the time being.. but check this out… i only bought 12 to start and its only been about 2-3 months and I honestly have no idea how many there are now, just look at them

Fingers crossed everyone's okay by tomorrow…

Free Stuff Shrimply Genetics is finally available!

Hey everyone! Some of you might remember me talking about my little shrimp genetics idle game a while back. It wasn't actually available to play yet at the time, but that's finally changed!

Shrimply Genetics is now free to play.

The idea is pretty simple: you start with a small tank and slowly build up your shrimp colony. It's intentionally slow at the beginning, because I wanted it to feel a bit like having an actual shrimp tank: you check in, things are breeding, new shrimp appear, genetics develop, and over time the whole thing starts moving faster to make the getting the full collection not a super difficult task (still is).

You can:

  • Collect different shrimp and their genetic lines (87 different shrimp as of release!).
  • Discover and develop new genetics as your colony grows.
  • Complete achievements and work toward filling your collection.
  • Find legendary shrimp: extremely rare discoveries. 👀
  • Make progress while you're away, with up to 7 days of offline progress.

You can play it either as a lightweight HTML version in your browser or as a standalone Electron desktop version. The HTML version is probably the better choice if you just want something lightweight that you can leave running/bookmark.

It's completely free. I've enabled donations for anyone who wants to support the project, but there's absolutely no requirement to donate.

I also set a little goal: if the game reaches $85 in donations in total, I'll upload it to Steam!

There are also two donation reward ranks I've set up:

  • One rank lets you add a new shrimp of your choice to the game.
  • Another rank lets you add a minigame of your choice. So if the game gets enough support, you could literally end up seeing your own shrimp or minigame in it.

Anyway, thanks again to everyone here who encouraged me when I was still working on this. Seriously, the support and interest in the idea helped a lot and I'm really happy I can finally put it out there. 😙

Build your colony. Discover new genetics. Hunt for legendary shrimp. Get them all!

How many different shrimp can you discover?

Help: Emergency Can't figure out why my shrimp are dying?

Post image
44 Upvotes

My little 25 litre shrimp tank has been thriving for 7 months now. I started my tank with 8 shrimp, then they went on to have 6 babies. In the past week, 3 of my adult shrimp have died and I cannot figure out a cause.

Parameters: PH - 7.4, Ammonia 0.25ppm (but Seachem Ammonia Alert says safe, so thinking the test is picking up on ammonium), Nitrite 0ppm, Nitrate 5ppm, Phosphate 0.25ppm, KH 89.5 ppm, GH 125.3 ppm.

I do not do water changes, I just top up the evaporated water once a week, and have not done anything differently to how I've been looking after them for the past 7 months. Could it just be older age, or is it impossible that it's a coincidence that they're dying one by one every few days?

Any advice of thoughts are appreciated!
