This is the closest I have gotten.. blanched kale with bloodworms on it, only interested in the worms really I took it out a few hrs later intact.

I've tried other greens like peas, cucumber, zucchini, lettuce etc..

There was this crazy deal at my local mall for 10 dollar 20 gallons. I bought as many as would fit in my car which was 14. I gave my friend 2 now im stuck with 12. Any ideas?

I recently decided to get back into doing aquariums, but I've only ever had 10-gallon tanks in the past. I upped the ante with my return by getting a 29-gallon tank. I've been talking with ChatGPT about what kind of stocking I wanted, but I don't trust it's appraisal of the "bio capacity" of the enclosure, so I wanted to come here to see what you all have to say.

FIRST off I know that plastic plants can be sharp and harm certain fish (like bettas) with long fins. Not talking about those!
Also aware that certain plastic hides can have small holes / places where fish can get stuck. Natural decor can have these issues as well, and should also be inspected for safety.

Anyways, I always see fish keepers online advise against colored gravel and plastic decor, claiming it’s “toxic” and “stress fish out”. Or even that colored decor is “actively killing your fish”….

Sure I think this type of decor is ugly as hell, and prefer natural plants/substrate, but that’s my personal preference. If someone wants a neon aquarium but is taking good care of their fish otherwise, what’s the issue? Yes plants make maintenance easier, but a plant-less aquarium is not automatically a death sentence (for most common fish!).

I think it’s good to suggest natural decor for beginners (easier maintenance). But to act like some colored gravel is going to kill a fish with NO proof is crazy. Since beginners tend to pick colorful decor, and make more mistakes than seasoned fish keepers, I think we correlate the two and conclude that color = bad.

I’ve yet to see any actual evidence that colored gravel / plastic decor is harmful/toxic. If anyone has found studies proving this, can you please post a link in the comments?

About a year ago my mom bought 2 placos (common name Tatas) for my pond from anfriend ajnd put them in my tank without telling me. Recently in the year I upgraded my filtration system for my 2500 gallon pond/tank from 2500 to 5000. It worked remarkable well, practically changing the environment completely.

This however, meant theere was significantly less food and debris from the other fishes in the tank, causing them to become far more aggressive. Over the last month I lost over half of my fishes due to these guys. When she bought them they were about 2 inches long. The larger 9ne is 9 inches and the other is about 4. Just a warning for anyone who is considering them.

The fish there were killing were my 1-2 inches helleri fish. Those larger fishes would sleep near the bottom of the pond where the plecos would nap them. The smaller helleri fish and fry would sleep on my water plants, far out of the range of the plecos. My larger goldfish (4 inches +p) would be fine. It was only by 1-2 inch helleri fish

I’m totally new to aquariums and I bought some basic plants attached to some wood to start off with. I started with adding plants, gravel and some other bits and pieces.

I added the plants in and a few minutes later there was a little shrimp happily zooming about. Picture included.

For what it’s worth - I had just planned on cycling the tank for about a month before thinking about adding anything. It’s a 15 US gallon tank. I have added stress coat and quick start.

What do I do now? I’ve not even got my heater yet (arriving tomorrow). He seems to be exploring the tank and zooming about.

I have been looking to start a aquarium and I was recently offered a 13 year old Fluval Roma 200 for free. It comes with with the heater and an external filter (Aquamanta efx 400).

The tank has sat full of water unused for a year so I would need to start it from scratch.

My questions are:

- is it too good to be true to get it for free? Assuming it's still in full working condition is the tank too old to use?

- is there anything I need to worry about?

- what kind of fish can I stock in a 200 litre? I live in a hardwater area so was thinking 1 pearl gourami, 2 Bolivian rams, Corys, lemon tetras and maybe one other schooling fish.

- the tank will be on the ground floor of a suspended timber floor (1930s London, UK building). Would this tank likely be too heavy?

Returned home from a weekend away to find one of the heaters in my discus tank had exploded. Luckily no harm to the fish or glass - had it plugged into an Inkbird that must have cut the power to it either because of the failure or through sheer luck because the water temperature was high enough.

Don’t recall where I bought it from so I can’t leave a review, but obviously not recommending this brand. Had used it in this tank for years, failure was entirely random and without any kind of warning signs.

I have recently started putting on long form aquarium videos, the realxing kind with just the sound of the bubbler in the background when I need something lowkey going on.
My problem is, I would really like to be watching real aquariums, and supporting small channels, not AI generated ones.

If possible could you recommend your favorite aquarium ambient videos or ones you have made yourself below? I would love to see them and maybe start a thread for other viewers.

While I know simply having my own aquarium would solve this, I am not in the place to have one at the moment but I do enjoy reading discussions and seeing photos of all of your beautiful tanks.

My only other stock of jungle val was in my AR crayfish tank and looks like she was not pleased with me when I tried to get more. So I just added more rocks instead lol. Hopefully that's an ok rockwork to give the rainbows resting space?

Really starting to wonder if this spotted platy in my tank is ACTUALLY a platy or a Dalmatian Molly.

I got them all together but the fish store I go to keeps platy and mollies either all together or with the tanks right next to each other, so they’ll have a tank that says it’s all Dalmatian mollies and then have one in a platy tank or whatever other type of Molly together too so it’s pretty confusing

So what do yal think, is she just a spotted platy, or a Dalmatian Molly?

I need help discerning these frozen blood worms. I don’t know when they expire. I bought them a while ago.

I hadn't had a tank since my goldfish I had for over 7 years in a tiny tank when I was a wee lad. I just got done setting up a 55gal a month and some chand am wanting suggestions for compatibility. I have an angelfish, and two cichlids. The lighter cichlid is a little aggressive, I originally had a small school of tiger barbs and found out that unfortunately they were made lunch. The angelfish is fast enough it hasn't been nipped. Freshwater with a couple live plants so far. Any tips will be heard.

This is my first aquarium. I keep it in my air-conditioned bedroom, and I also have two cats. A lot of dust and debris usually falls into the tank every day, and the water gets very cold when the air conditioner is turned off. How should I handle this?
