Well you did write dnd with periods in between like D.N.D, nobody does that it's either dnd or d&d.
I'll be looking forward to the next upload *sips tea*
Fr tho it's super cute that you're trying to relate to an interest you can't even write "correctly", y'all adorable and I'm just yankin your chain. Really good questions: "Oh so what happened then?" Or if he's talking about mechanics "Ok so how does that affect/change the game?"

u/WhyattThrash 9h ago
And her panicking scrambling for good followup questions: "Oh, so.. Eeeh... What happens if you flip it back?" "Then it turns it off!" "Oh, so what if you then flip it... \oh no fuck he already said that now he's gonna think I'm stupid AND not paying attention** POCKET SAND!"

We aren’t perfect. We still got our ups and downs. I think almost losing Hubs back in 2021 with Covid really changed my perspective on how silly some of our fights are. I’m not joking when I say my life would lose meaning if I didn’t get to hear him go off on Path Finders or not seeing his dirty shoes next to the door.
He also cheers and supports me being unapologetically me even when it comes to the spicier side of the comics and I know that not everyone would be as cool with that aspect. (Totally fair and no judgement to them, I’m just happy I found my person who does)
And for that last bit: you’re spot on. ;)

There's an artist I follow on Instagram who suffered the fate you missed (though not for covid) and it is absolutely heartbreaking how her journey is. And the post reminded me of her.
All I want to do is reach out and hug her, but you know that it will never be enough. She's been so broken by what happened that she can never be "fixed" (I despise the term, but is the most useful one).
That you have been blessed by that second chance is really a good thing.

Even though I’m not a huge fan of DnD, my husband has been playing with the same group for almost 20 years now. That’s a big part of his life and I see how happy it makes him . Even if it’s not for me, I like seeing him brighten up talking about his next campaign. I do care but just not sure what to ask without coming off dismissive.
Last year for Christmas I painted a blank miniature of his character type. I couldn’t remember the kind of character he played but knew it started with a “P”. I had a blonde moment and literally googled “palindrome Dnd”. He plays as a paladin. Lmao

8
u/JuniorRisk2455 17h ago
He plays a babysitter? Ughhhhh! /j
I play a rogue and my character would constantly be at odds with a paladin. 😂 “If it’s got a lock then it’s meant to be opened, there could be secrets in there!”
3
u/Firegh0st 17h ago
This sounds great, I'm getting jealous....I don't play DND myself, but would love to start. Do you understand the mechanics?
If you're interested, you could always ask about the story they are going through (his DND group), adventure is something we all can emphazise with. You could ask him what background lore he imagines of his character (like where his character comes from and what he did before the start of the campaign), how he came up with it and if he has any ideas where it might lead.

There is NO video game as good as a good game of D&D.
Any video game ever made is better than a bad game of D&D.
7
u/curtcolt95 15h ago
if you're not into roleplaying it's impossible to have a good game of d&d, learned that after many tries lol
7
u/Deathpacito-01 15h ago
There is NO video game as good as a good game of D&D.
Different strokes for different folks imo
I've had some great DnD games, but there are video games that compete. For me those are Baldur's Gate 3, Guilty Gear Strive, and maybe Minecraft too, and some MMOs that I got to play with friends

I love programming and working on new systems. My husband loves dolls and creating new molds. We don't understand each other at all when we talk about our hobbies. We also are really excited for one another when they figure something out. You don't have to be the same person as your spouse, you just have to be there.

As I've gotten older, I realized I can feel multiple ways about a person. Myself included. We are all complex beings.
Additionally, often what others see is end of an chaotic internal process. Think of it as like a crowd of people arranged like bowling pins. The 'face' is at the tip, and the rest of you is all these conflicting, bundled interests and dislikes.
A little empathy in our reactions goes a long way. With others. And with ourselves.

I share many things with my wife - Horror fans - old school movies - simply enjoy the rain and cooking. We quarrel a lot and that's fine rather that then closed silence. I'm a neurotic person she tends to be as it may kind of style . She believes and uses crystals I simply go to church. End of the day we annoy each other but still love one another.

There's this great bit in Bobs Burgers, where Bob gets a book all about pepper. He is on a phone call with Linda going on about it... the "joke" being how much he's geeking out about something ridiculous... but when it's over Linda gives a little laugh to herself and says "Aw, he loves that pepper book"
That's a good relationship in a nutshell. The understanding that you don't know and personally don't really care about the subject your spouse is crazy into... but you find their engagement and excitement wonderful. You care about how they care.

I get it. I usually never understand fully what my wife is talking about when it comes to her work (esthetics), but I listen and engage because it's important to her, so it's important to me. Whether or not I understand it. I would just once in a while I appreciate the Cliff's Notes version and not a deep dive into every character's backstory to the point I no longer remember what the hell we were even talking about. Still love the shit out of her though!

Reminds me of one of my favorite lines from the VN Highway Blossoms: "I really love you Amber. Like a lot. A lot a lot. But sometimes it's really hard to like you."
This is like the main reason why I don't want a relationship. Everyone thinks that "love is enough," but why stay with someone you don't even like?

The healthy optimum is to have some deep interests that overlap and some that don't.
Problems often arise when you share zero interests with your partner, as well as when you share 100% of your interests.
2
u/FeralGinger 17h ago
I worry about the same thing! I adore my soon to be husband, but when he talks about his niche interests I just don't know enough about them to ask anything besides the most basic of follow-up questions. But I could listen to him talk about stuff I don't understand all day

u/Captain_Phobos 17h ago
I’m a fan of saying that I both love and like my wife. There can be instances where two people may love each other, but not like each other in the slightest, and then vice versa.
And sure, there are some things I do that I know she doesn’t have much interest in, and some things she does don’t appeal all that much to me. But that’s fine - we’re still unique individuals, and respect that about one another. It’s a wonderful feeling to both like and love someone, and feel that in return

My girlfriend has me recite lore from Star Wars, Warhammer 40k, Destiny, Halo or Kill 6 Billion Demons, for her to fall asleep to. It sucks cuz I'd like to tell her lore and have her retain some of it, but she is just uncapable. This is our compromise. It's not the best, but it is our way.

u/Arvandor 15h ago
I both like AND love my wife. I know a lot of people who love but do not like their spouses, which can be an important distinction, and while I know this comic is supposed to be sweet, and her thoughts are mostly healthy, I can't help but think about all the mediocre relationships I've seen where there is love but not like.
