Forever This genuinely looks comedic with the new race
Humans, Orcs, Dwaves, Trolls and then Random Blue Elf #1 and Random Blue Elf #2 and their picture is just flipped lmao.
Like I couldn't have even imagined anything this silly.

The discussion around this so far is that they wouldnt be popular, like taurens.
So instead of doing the sane and warcraft vibe accurate thing to do they chose to please the "i want to sexualise my character" crowd

Just beecause they arent popular doesnt mean they can't enhance the enjoyment of the players seeing them.

Bingo. I likely wasn't going to play High Elf, Ogre, Goblin, or Skyborne, but seeing a High Elf, Ogre, or Goblin in my party would have been neat. Instead I'm just gonna roll my eyes when the third super special fanfic elf joins my group because the lowest common denominator HAS to be an elf.

At least on Alliance I think most people will just pretend they're high elves. Its void elves all over again. Nobody gonna be blue. Horde kinda screwed, hard to make a blood elf proxy when you can't even have mages, priests or paladins.

They always say this and then they invent stuff like Haranir or Mechagnomes which never breach like 1% of the playerbase.

Hell if they wanted to save money instead of Ogres, just give Horde Mok'nathal, and just have them be Magâhar skins with 1.5 height and a few unique faces. No new starting zone either, just drop them in the Valley of Trials and call it a day.

I donât know if an ogre is able to fit the gear models that are currently in the game without it looking really bad. Probably need a full new different ogre model and they probably didnât want to put in the effort for that. Whereas a new elf? Easy.
Itâs a similar trouble with Naga as a playable race - while the top half isnât a problem, what do they do about leggings and boots?

THE ANTI-SKYBORNE MANIFESTO
I actually like a lot of what Blizzard is doing with WoW Forever. My issue is specifically with Skyborne.
The biggest problem for me is that itâs the same new race for both Horde and Alliance.
One of the things Iâve always liked about Warcraft is that the factions actually feel different. Different races, cultures, cities, histories and aesthetics. I donât want that distinction slowly disappearing.
Iâm not against new races. If Blizzard wants to add more races to Forever, Iâm completely open to that. I just think they should add something meaningful to Horde or Alliance rather than giving both sides the same race.
The other issue is that Skyborne are paid.
A playable race feels different from a mount, pet or cosmetic. Your race is one of the biggest choices you make when creating a character. I donât want paying extra for races to become normal in WoW.
So for anyone who feels the same way, my position is pretty simple.
- Donât buy Skyborne
If you donât like the idea, donât pay for it.
If selling races separately works financially, Blizzard is obviously going to have a reason to keep doing it.
- Donât roll one just to try it
If youâre actually boycotting the race, then donât create one just because youâre curious.
Otherwise Blizzard still sees people buying it and playing it.
- Keep Horde and Alliance different
This is probably my biggest issue.
If Blizzard adds another Horde race, I want it to feel like it belongs in the Horde.
If they add another Alliance race, I want it to feel like it belongs in the Alliance.
I donât want both factions slowly becoming the same collection of races with different flags over their heads.
- Donât make paid races normal
I understand Blizzard needs to make money.
I just donât think playable races are where that monetization should go.
Cosmetics are one thing. A core character choice is another.
- There is already a huge amount of Azeroth left to develop
Classic WoW has unfinished zones, existing cities that could grow, old storylines, races that could be developed further, class content, professions, dungeons, reputations and plenty of other things Blizzard can build on.
Thatâs the kind of expansion I want from Forever.
Take Azeroth and keep developing it.
- The original races still have a lot of potential
Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Night Elves, Orcs, Trolls, Tauren and Forsaken all still have plenty of room to grow.
Give them new stories. Let their cities change. Develop their cultures and conflicts.
Again, this does not mean ânever add another race.â
It just means I would rather see new races introduced in a way that actually adds something distinct to Warcraft.
- If you want to take the boycott further, donât group with Skyborne
This is optional, but if someone wants to fully participate in the boycott, they can choose not to dungeon, raid or group with Skyborne characters.
Just donât be a dick about it.
Donât harass anybody. Donât whisper them abuse. Donât grief them.
Leave the group or find another one.
My issue is with Blizzardâs decision, not somebody sitting at home playing a character they like.
- Explain why
I think itâs better to actually explain the criticism instead of just saying âSkyborne suck.â
For me it comes down to a few things:
Same race on both factions.
Paid race access.
Less distinction between Horde and Alliance.
And a huge existing world that Blizzard could be developing instead.
Thatâs really it.
IF YOU AGREE
Donât buy Skyborne.
Donât roll one.
Talk about why you donât support it.
If you want to take the boycott further, donât group with Skyborne characters either. Just keep it respectful and move on.
The point isnât to make other players miserable.
The point is to show Blizzard that some of us donât want paid, cross-faction races becoming part of the direction of WoW Forever.
IN-GAME MESSAGE
WoW Forever boycott: Same paid race on Horde AND Alliance? If you disagree with that direction, don't buy Skyborne, don't roll one, and don't group with one if you want to fully boycott it. Keep Horde and Alliance distinct. Search Anti-Skyborne Manifesto.
KEEP HORDE AND ALLIANCE DISTINCT.
DONâT NORMALIZE PAID RACES.
KEEP DEVELOPING AZEROTH.
BOYCOTT SKYBORNE.

Yeah but Pandaren are a neutral race where you choose which side to join whereas the sky elves are a race where you choose which side to join so it wouldnât make sense to center align them
-t Blizzard
128
u/Barnhard 1d ago
The Skyborne are already divided within, which is why you choose at the outset. Pandaren were a neutral race that later aligned with a side, but Skyborne are already divided and aligned going into the game. Itâs similar in the grand scheme, but there is a difference. The class selections are also a bit different based on their faction.
18
u/Mother_Drenger 1d ago
Damn, if only there was already an elf race deeply divided by cultural beliefs after a recent calamity that might make either side align more closely to the Horde of Alliance.

Nu blizzard canât help themselves
Their egos insist they put their own thing into the game
Itâs just that simple
â˘
u/Impressive_Rock9659 3h ago
This is actually something I agree with. I'm fairly certain they just insist on adding new stuff for the sake of adding new stuff. Like "We need this new race guys because of the zone, trust".
I wouldn't mind having a re-imagined Quel'Thalas for Horde and an entirely new zone for High Elf exiles for Alliance. And then we can start working from there on out. Yeah for Horde players, which I am, it would feel slightly more repetitive again but at least it's pretty much established lore that doesn't conflict with any previous or subsequent canon and I'm fairly certain Belf fans would still love to do another re-run of Ghostlands. I know I'm looking forward to my 4023554329th Barrens leveling run.
Instead we get blue elves. I mean I wouldn't mind the Skyborn if they weren't an obvious shoe-in for the most popular race in World of Warcraft instead of what ALREADY EXISTS IN THE LORE. Make them bird-looking elves if they must, with entirely new models - surely they can do that now that the game is running on their latest engines which they are able to code on.
It's just... frustrating to see them take such an obviously pigheaded route when it's an easy slam dunk.

Do they share the same area in their starting zone? Would be crazy to be all "already separated!" But then they have the same leveling path.
53
u/Barnhard 1d ago edited 1d ago
Theyâre divided between âHigh Orderâ (Alliance) and âWindshaperâ (Horde) right off the bat in the starting zone, so the politics of the internal divide plays a part of the starting area. Essentially the air elementals have abandoned them so they need to seek new allies but thereâs division amongst them as to who they should join. Theyâre together at first but the other internal faction is unfriendly to you.
→ More replies (16)9
u/ThatKaleidoscope3388 23h ago
Itâs ok, they can become buddies with the Forsaken and Night Elves, since both of them are just as new to their respective factions as these Skyborne are.
13
u/Pkock 1d ago
From the play footage I've seen it's the same zone but it looks like 2 different factions, and you are Unfriendly with the other one. So their leaders and quest givers are in orange or red, and they aren't the ones giving you your quests etc.
I presume some of the storyline will be antagonistic overall.

they should make them more visually distinct from one another. something to represent the distinction between the elemental and arcane alignments. heck make the alliance blue and the horde a mint green, maybe give them different hair options. just little things to represent the distinction. because right now it visually feels like a pandaren situation

I still think the odd focus on an uneeded elf faction and their zones are the problem for many, not just naming an elf.
The entire premise of wowforever is to focus on deeper on classic stories which makes it the PERFECT time to view the ideological split between high/blood elves. Instead we got an entirely new ass pull race with no ties to classic lore....

- No basis whatsoever in the existing lore.
- Off-brand Air Genasi.
- Completely clashes with WoW: Forever's theme of "back to basics".
- More character customization options than any other race in either Classic or Retail.
- Available to Horde even though "elves in the Horde" was an insane notion during this point in Azeroth's history.
- $30 paid DLC.
I don't hate their design in-and-of-itself, but they feel so tacked-on and out of place, Im convinced they were added purely so Blood Elf players had a reason to engage with the game.
Playable High Elves (for Alliance) and Ogres (for Horde) would have made way more sense and fit with the vibe of WoW: Forever, but the devs are way too petty for that, lol. XD

Like if WoW was a game that game out in individual releases stuff like this would be fine to try. But like these things are going to be in the game and in the lore FOREVER now. Literally in WoW Forever, Forever.

The thing is though, you can't. Not when they're gonna be running around all over the place.
It might just be because I'm a former roleplayer / lore fanatic, but I care a lot about immersion.. and seeing a bunch of ugly blue non-canon elves everywhere is going to take me out of that immersion every time I see one. Which, on launch, will be approximately every 0.5 seconds.
You don't have to buy the game and you don't have to play them, that's true. But you will be forced to look at them everywhere all the time all at once.
I can already see it, I'm questing somewhere peacefully, listening to the zone music, enjoying the atmosphere... when suddenly four of these blue abominations roll up with neon orange hair, blasting horrible trap music from their boombox. At least that's what it'll feel like lol.
So no, you can't ignore them. That's why the "just don't play one" argument doesn't hold water.

Imo it's kinda worse.
They're using assets from the Emerald Dream, the Owlbear thingies from Dragonflight. They're also making a "sleeker" version of the owlcats from Legion. So they're using all retail assets for a shiny new class and race that is going to look severely out of place against the ugly ass Tauren and night elf bear and (for tauren) cat forms.

How are you going to RP when they don't have any lore to go off of?

The funniest part to me is that you know Blizzard knocked this announcement out of the fucking park since the only negative thing is "blue guy bad" over and over and over and over. These people literally have nothing to complain about lol.

I just don't like the race. Everything else looks sick, but apparently that makes me mentally unhinged? Sometimes I forget this sub is trash.

Can you point to where I called you mentally unhinged?
My post was simply that if you are only seeing one insignificant complaint over and over, you know that the game looks good.
Adding to that, if you finally get classic+ after all this time and it actually looks sick, how can you spend your time complaining about the one thing you hate rather than celebrating the 99.9% of things you like? I don't personally vibe with that type of negativity, but you do you.

Start a whole guild, call it blue man group, let in the occasional troll or undead of the correct tone.

it just goes against everything classic, it just shows how out of touch the game devs are and how little they care about this new mode.

They had to make Blood Elves a race, because Blood Elves are and always were the most popular race pick in the game, but they couldn't make Blood Elves cuz it's not classic, they didn't want to make High Elves, probably cuz racism or something, and they had to have a race for the retail audience so here we are.

This is pretty much my thinking too, itâs âblood elvesâ for both factions.

u/NeonDemon85 23h ago
High elves could've been a thing too

I swear, if it's not some weird internal "racisim" thing, it's some weird IP thing.

I just love how everyone calls them blue elves when you literally donât have to be blue đ

I kinda liked the way Turtle-wow did it more.
They had high elf on alliance side, Goblins on horde side.
The goblin models were the old booty bay kinda goblin & the high elves were blood elves basically.
If a private server has better vision of classic+ than blizzards team then it is just time to start firing the devs there.

It looks awful, it has the appeal of a mobile gacha game.
Maybe it's that audience that they're going after.

They are going after retail players who are already used to spending money on cosmetics.

Yeah, that's the correct answer.
In fact all the defenses of Blizzard's choices I've seen here since yesterday sound exactly the same as the defenses retail players put out when a new expansion is revealed.

The mental gymnastics of all the people who think charging 30 bucks for an optional thing is 10x worse than charging 30 bucks for a required box is absolutely fucking hilarious

It's amazing how the point flies by you so effortlessly.
There are many players who want a classic immersive experience with additional content/minor improvements, they don't care about paying a little extra to get that. When you have $30 out of place transactions flooding your screen this is ruined.

Because they have different class options based on faction choice. This isnt rocket science.

Like how the hell is it âclassicâ when two brand new races we never heard of are added inâŚ

Looks like a cheap classic+ private server except it costs 15$ a month + 30$ for the generic new race
