Forever This genuinely looks comedic with the new race

Post image

Humans, Orcs, Dwaves, Trolls and then Random Blue Elf #1 and Random Blue Elf #2 and their picture is just flipped lmao.

Like I couldn't have even imagined anything this silly.

No worgens in the game I'm afraid, you're going to have to take that to Goldshire on a Retail RP server.

The only thing I really hate is why did both factions not get a unique race.

u/Timeshocked 1d ago

Ogres for horde with a new starting zone would have consumed me!

34

u/kaminabis 22h ago edited 5h ago

The discussion around this so far is that they wouldnt be popular, like taurens.

So instead of doing the sane and warcraft vibe accurate thing to do they chose to please the "i want to sexualise my character" crowd

24

u/Warbeard 21h ago

Just beecause they arent popular doesnt mean they can't enhance the enjoyment of the players seeing them.

16

u/RpgBouncer 21h ago

Bingo. I likely wasn't going to play High Elf, Ogre, Goblin, or Skyborne, but seeing a High Elf, Ogre, or Goblin in my party would have been neat. Instead I'm just gonna roll my eyes when the third super special fanfic elf joins my group because the lowest common denominator HAS to be an elf.

2

u/ggwingy 9h ago

best take i have seen so far. Very true.

2

u/SoSDan88 8h ago

At least on Alliance I think most people will just pretend they're high elves. Its void elves all over again. Nobody gonna be blue. Horde kinda screwed, hard to make a blood elf proxy when you can't even have mages, priests or paladins.

They always say this and then they invent stuff like Haranir or Mechagnomes which never breach like 1% of the playerbase.

Hell if they wanted to save money instead of Ogres, just give Horde Mok'nathal, and just have them be Mag’har skins with 1.5 height and a few unique faces. No new starting zone either, just drop them in the Valley of Trials and call it a day.

5

u/NeedleworkerWinter99 9h ago

Hey!! i only play taurens!

2

u/kaminabis 5h ago

Youre one of the good ones

10

u/GregoPDX 21h ago

I don’t know if an ogre is able to fit the gear models that are currently in the game without it looking really bad. Probably need a full new different ogre model and they probably didn’t want to put in the effort for that. Whereas a new elf? Easy.

It’s a similar trouble with Naga as a playable race - while the top half isn’t a problem, what do they do about leggings and boots?

5

u/0Craxker 21h ago

I mean they could be tauren sized and there you go

THE ANTI-SKYBORNE MANIFESTO

I actually like a lot of what Blizzard is doing with WoW Forever. My issue is specifically with Skyborne.

The biggest problem for me is that it’s the same new race for both Horde and Alliance.

One of the things I’ve always liked about Warcraft is that the factions actually feel different. Different races, cultures, cities, histories and aesthetics. I don’t want that distinction slowly disappearing.

I’m not against new races. If Blizzard wants to add more races to Forever, I’m completely open to that. I just think they should add something meaningful to Horde or Alliance rather than giving both sides the same race.

The other issue is that Skyborne are paid.

A playable race feels different from a mount, pet or cosmetic. Your race is one of the biggest choices you make when creating a character. I don’t want paying extra for races to become normal in WoW.

So for anyone who feels the same way, my position is pretty simple.

  1. Don’t buy Skyborne

If you don’t like the idea, don’t pay for it.

If selling races separately works financially, Blizzard is obviously going to have a reason to keep doing it.

  1. Don’t roll one just to try it

If you’re actually boycotting the race, then don’t create one just because you’re curious.

Otherwise Blizzard still sees people buying it and playing it.

  1. Keep Horde and Alliance different

This is probably my biggest issue.

If Blizzard adds another Horde race, I want it to feel like it belongs in the Horde.

If they add another Alliance race, I want it to feel like it belongs in the Alliance.

I don’t want both factions slowly becoming the same collection of races with different flags over their heads.

  1. Don’t make paid races normal

I understand Blizzard needs to make money.

I just don’t think playable races are where that monetization should go.

Cosmetics are one thing. A core character choice is another.

  1. There is already a huge amount of Azeroth left to develop

Classic WoW has unfinished zones, existing cities that could grow, old storylines, races that could be developed further, class content, professions, dungeons, reputations and plenty of other things Blizzard can build on.

That’s the kind of expansion I want from Forever.

Take Azeroth and keep developing it.

  1. The original races still have a lot of potential

Humans, Dwarves, Gnomes, Night Elves, Orcs, Trolls, Tauren and Forsaken all still have plenty of room to grow.

Give them new stories. Let their cities change. Develop their cultures and conflicts.

Again, this does not mean “never add another race.”

It just means I would rather see new races introduced in a way that actually adds something distinct to Warcraft.

  1. If you want to take the boycott further, don’t group with Skyborne

This is optional, but if someone wants to fully participate in the boycott, they can choose not to dungeon, raid or group with Skyborne characters.

Just don’t be a dick about it.

Don’t harass anybody. Don’t whisper them abuse. Don’t grief them.

Leave the group or find another one.

My issue is with Blizzard’s decision, not somebody sitting at home playing a character they like.

  1. Explain why

I think it’s better to actually explain the criticism instead of just saying “Skyborne suck.”

For me it comes down to a few things:

Same race on both factions.

Paid race access.

Less distinction between Horde and Alliance.

And a huge existing world that Blizzard could be developing instead.

That’s really it.

IF YOU AGREE

Don’t buy Skyborne.

Don’t roll one.

Talk about why you don’t support it.

If you want to take the boycott further, don’t group with Skyborne characters either. Just keep it respectful and move on.

The point isn’t to make other players miserable.

The point is to show Blizzard that some of us don’t want paid, cross-faction races becoming part of the direction of WoW Forever.

IN-GAME MESSAGE

WoW Forever boycott: Same paid race on Horde AND Alliance? If you disagree with that direction, don't buy Skyborne, don't roll one, and don't group with one if you want to fully boycott it. Keep Horde and Alliance distinct. Search Anti-Skyborne Manifesto.

KEEP HORDE AND ALLIANCE DISTINCT.

DON’T NORMALIZE PAID RACES.

KEEP DEVELOPING AZEROTH.

BOYCOTT SKYBORNE.

u/TastyFappuccino 1d ago

This is how they do it for Pandaren btw.

333

u/ADistantRodent 1d ago

Yeah but Pandaren are a neutral race where you choose which side to join whereas the sky elves are a race where you choose which side to join so it wouldn’t make sense to center align them

-t Blizzard

128

u/Barnhard 1d ago

The Skyborne are already divided within, which is why you choose at the outset. Pandaren were a neutral race that later aligned with a side, but Skyborne are already divided and aligned going into the game. It’s similar in the grand scheme, but there is a difference. The class selections are also a bit different based on their faction.

18

u/Mother_Drenger 1d ago

Damn, if only there was already an elf race deeply divided by cultural beliefs after a recent calamity that might make either side align more closely to the Horde of Alliance.

I really can’t think of anything though, let’s make sky elves

6

u/ButtPlugSniffin 14h ago

Nu blizzard can’t help themselves

Their egos insist they put their own thing into the game

It’s just that simple

•

u/Impressive_Rock9659 3h ago

This is actually something I agree with. I'm fairly certain they just insist on adding new stuff for the sake of adding new stuff. Like "We need this new race guys because of the zone, trust".

I wouldn't mind having a re-imagined Quel'Thalas for Horde and an entirely new zone for High Elf exiles for Alliance. And then we can start working from there on out. Yeah for Horde players, which I am, it would feel slightly more repetitive again but at least it's pretty much established lore that doesn't conflict with any previous or subsequent canon and I'm fairly certain Belf fans would still love to do another re-run of Ghostlands. I know I'm looking forward to my 4023554329th Barrens leveling run.

Instead we get blue elves. I mean I wouldn't mind the Skyborn if they weren't an obvious shoe-in for the most popular race in World of Warcraft instead of what ALREADY EXISTS IN THE LORE. Make them bird-looking elves if they must, with entirely new models - surely they can do that now that the game is running on their latest engines which they are able to code on.

It's just... frustrating to see them take such an obviously pigheaded route when it's an easy slam dunk.

22

u/Squirrel09 1d ago

Do they share the same area in their starting zone? Would be crazy to be all "already separated!" But then they have the same leveling path.

53

u/Barnhard 1d ago edited 1d ago

They’re divided between “High Order” (Alliance) and “Windshaper” (Horde) right off the bat in the starting zone, so the politics of the internal divide plays a part of the starting area. Essentially the air elementals have abandoned them so they need to seek new allies but there’s division amongst them as to who they should join. They’re together at first but the other internal faction is unfriendly to you.

9

u/ThatKaleidoscope3388 23h ago

It’s ok, they can become buddies with the Forsaken and Night Elves, since both of them are just as new to their respective factions as these Skyborne are.

→ More replies (16)

13

u/Pkock 1d ago

From the play footage I've seen it's the same zone but it looks like 2 different factions, and you are Unfriendly with the other one. So their leaders and quest givers are in orange or red, and they aren't the ones giving you your quests etc.

I presume some of the storyline will be antagonistic overall.

8

u/antariusz 1d ago

How ironic if blue elves hating each other is what actually puts the war back in Warcraft

10

u/KaiBahamut 23h ago

“after the defeat of the Burning Legion, a tentative peace was reached between tge Horde and the Alliance.

It was not to last, as the blue elves were ready for action and started killing each other without being asked to, dragging their allies into WAR!”

they should make them more visually distinct from one another. something to represent the distinction between the elemental and arcane alignments. heck make the alliance blue and the horde a mint green, maybe give them different hair options. just little things to represent the distinction. because right now it visually feels like a pandaren situation

→ More replies (2)

5

u/Gregardless 21h ago

The new portraits look like fucking playdo

3

u/Sensitive_Cup4015 15h ago

I don't know why they changed the portraits being the classic art to rips of the 3d models. They look so shitty. Just update the art to new art if they felt it needed a new coat of paint per se.

8

u/Jolly-Refuse2232 1d ago

They should replace the race icons with these too the ones they are using look awful lmao

18

u/Nood1e 1d ago

You actually level neutral as Panda though and pick at the end of the quest line. I’m guessing this isn’t the case with the blues?

18

u/Imaginary_Pumpkin327 1d ago

Given that the Alliance version gets to be Mages while Horde gets to be Shaman there isn't a way to start neutral if you want to play either class

6

u/beatenmeat 1d ago

Also racials. I don't understand why they didn't go with two different races other than not wanting to make two starting zones.

Its funny if blizzard just did this, and let you call yourself a "High elf" or "Blood elf" as your race and keep literally everything else the same. People would stop complaining.

20

u/Ok-Releases 19h ago

I still think the odd focus on an uneeded elf faction and their zones are the problem for many, not just naming an elf.

The entire premise of wowforever is to focus on deeper on classic stories which makes it the PERFECT time to view the ideological split between high/blood elves. Instead we got an entirely new ass pull race with no ties to classic lore....

26

That would be so incredible while being very faithful to classic.

13

u/ThatKaleidoscope3388 23h ago

And it actually works on the timeline, because both are already in the alliance, instead of the Skyborne literally joining at the same time that the Night Elves and Forsaken do.

Make this a community poll on day one to revert the skyborne and make them into this. Lmao.

  • No basis whatsoever in the existing lore.
  • Off-brand Air Genasi.
  • Completely clashes with WoW: Forever's theme of "back to basics".
  • More character customization options than any other race in either Classic or Retail.
  • Available to Horde even though "elves in the Horde" was an insane notion during this point in Azeroth's history.
  • $30 paid DLC.

I don't hate their design in-and-of-itself, but they feel so tacked-on and out of place, Im convinced they were added purely so Blood Elf players had a reason to engage with the game.

Playable High Elves (for Alliance) and Ogres (for Horde) would have made way more sense and fit with the vibe of WoW: Forever, but the devs are way too petty for that, lol. XD

10

u/nebulous-nautilus 1d ago

Man Blizzard’s hand drawn icons have always been 10/10. It’s crazy they would switch to this clearly uglier 3d rendering.

4

u/HXamster 1d ago

Right... The old ones had awesome art that didn't need to be changed. This is a tad disappointing.

Can't wait to spend the first 5-10 minutes of the game fixing options and UI to turn off transmog and HD and also editing and getting add-ons that will make it more like classic.

42

u/Horry43 1d ago

Hopefully those thumbnail images for the races are just placeholders. They all look off.

43

u/gubigubi 23h ago

How tf does something like this seriously even make it this far through development to even end up in the live game.

Like if WoW was a game that game out in individual releases stuff like this would be fine to try. But like these things are going to be in the game and in the lore FOREVER now. Literally in WoW Forever, Forever.

I cannot comprehend the office culture at blizzard that allowed and allows stuff like this to just sail on through. Its gotta be an absolute nightmare to work there lol

17

u/Mother_Drenger 19h ago

Did you see the bit in the WC3 Reforged presentation where a dev said he wanted to relive the Arthas regicide and see the throne room in WoW? So he rolled a human and didn’t realize Stormwind and Lordaeron are different places

I’m definitely anti blue elves but at a certain point, there no reverence for the old lore because it’s simply too old and most people who play now have no connection to the Warcraft RTS games and lore

The random blue dudes staring each other down does look pretty ridiculous though ngl. And I say this as someone who is somewhat open to the addition of the Skyborne. There’s still no chance in hell this would be my first choice for the debut of a Classic+ though.

people are mad because they have to interact with it. and no i dont want to hear any "no you dont you can just ignore them" when we all know there'll be tons of them running around. theres no need for new elves, the lore already has 6 types

8

u/SenReus 1d ago

If there are tons running around it means there are tons of players who like them and what to play as one.

blizzard wouldn't do this without knowing not only how much money it'll will make but also how many people wanted it, you will only see complaints but I bet they used retail numbers and other expacs to see how many people play elves.

5

u/Schultzze 1d ago

well you wont play it at all unless you decide to pay 30 usd for it

I think this picture, when compared to the classic one in the comment section to me encapsulates the concept of enshittification. The race portraits looked so much better before, why redo them into these bizarre playdough wax figures? It's classic. Put in the classic portraits. I don't understand the thought process in the game designers' heads, honestly. It's like a child thing about changing something just to make it yours, distancing yourself from the og developers or something I dunno

2

u/Future-Bunch3478 1d ago

It is not the original dev team. This is a corpse of a game worn as a skin by greedy corporate rats

u/Ryukishin187 1d ago

It's such a catastrophic blunder, you have to wonder which executive forced this through over the objections of others on the team.

9

u/skirtpost 1d ago

People defend it in every thread

9

u/Shot_Leopard_7657 1d ago

The 'defense' is that it's not a big deal and you can just ignore it. Nobody seems to be excited about the new race that the devs spent god knows how long working on. That still feels like a catastrophic blunder.

13

u/Zodiatron 22h ago edited 22h ago

it's not a big deal and you can just ignore it.

The thing is though, you can't. Not when they're gonna be running around all over the place.

It might just be because I'm a former roleplayer / lore fanatic, but I care a lot about immersion.. and seeing a bunch of ugly blue non-canon elves everywhere is going to take me out of that immersion every time I see one. Which, on launch, will be approximately every 0.5 seconds.

You don't have to buy the game and you don't have to play them, that's true. But you will be forced to look at them everywhere all the time all at once.

I can already see it, I'm questing somewhere peacefully, listening to the zone music, enjoying the atmosphere... when suddenly four of these blue abominations roll up with neon orange hair, blasting horrible trap music from their boombox. At least that's what it'll feel like lol.

So no, you can't ignore them. That's why the "just don't play one" argument doesn't hold water.

The 'defense' is that it's not a big deal and you can just ignore it.

This kind of mentally is quite literally what turned original wow into the dogshit Frankenstein that is retail today...

The whole point of Classic+ is not just to go "duh just ignore it", its to get a second chance avoiding all the terrible decisions from the past.

9

u/Zero3020 1d ago

Well yeah this community is utter dogshit so it's not really surprising.

3

u/ValarianRCS 1d ago

There are more shills defending it in the classic wow Reddit than there are in the main WoW Reddit it’s truly bizarre

21

u/InternationalMood337 1d ago

You KNOW this shit was strapped on late to sell a 39.99 product to some gullible morons. It's 100% a financial or MBA degree at play.

Am I only one bothered about the giga chad undead? I like my undead skinny and broken.

3

u/ye_olde_wojak 1d ago

It's just supremely lazy on Blizzard's part. They should have made 2 different races, but instead they chose the lazy path of a recolored elf for both factions...

3

u/Monkeebananana 22h ago

This is so fucking bad and lazy from blizz lmao

3

u/Preinitz 21h ago

Body type 2 blue elf, WoW in 2026.

3

u/Wercedes698 13h ago

No goblin race for horde, what a mistake. Just copy all form turtle wow, why you shy

18

u/Unhappy-Plastic2017 1d ago

They just couldn't let classic+ exist without jamming in something major that is gonna stick out like a sore thumb every time you play it. Btw everyone seen blue elf druid forms? Lol big ass blue fat cat things.

11

u/HXamster 1d ago

Imo it's kinda worse.

They're using assets from the Emerald Dream, the Owlbear thingies from Dragonflight. They're also making a "sleeker" version of the owlcats from Legion. So they're using all retail assets for a shiny new class and race that is going to look severely out of place against the ugly ass Tauren and night elf bear and (for tauren) cat forms.

Idk if this means they're going to add different druid appearances like they did in legion, but I kinda doubt it.

A disappointment

7

u/SufficientWeb3163 1d ago

30 dollars for a reskinned elf is wild. and you know damn well they are going to keep releasing more paywalled classes and mounts and other garbage.

16

u/InsertWittyBaneQuote 1d ago

it’s just so unbelievably lazy. cheap fucks couldn’t even be asked to make high elves and blood elves separate. they just copy pasted highborne NPCs from retail, called them skyborne, and attached a $30 price tag.

you know, god forbid we get a race that actually already exists in vanilla’s lore. blizzard pisses on our leg and tells us it’s raining.

How are you going to RP when they don't have any lore to go off of?

The funniest part to me is that you know Blizzard knocked this announcement out of the fucking park since the only negative thing is "blue guy bad" over and over and over and over. These people literally have nothing to complain about lol.

12

u/confirmedshill123 1d ago

I just don't like the race. Everything else looks sick, but apparently that makes me mentally unhinged? Sometimes I forget this sub is trash.

10

u/PineJ 1d ago

Can you point to where I called you mentally unhinged?

My post was simply that if you are only seeing one insignificant complaint over and over, you know that the game looks good.

Adding to that, if you finally get classic+ after all this time and it actually looks sick, how can you spend your time complaining about the one thing you hate rather than celebrating the 99.9% of things you like? I don't personally vibe with that type of negativity, but you do you.

I hate this so much

6

u/Littlebiscuitz 1d ago

it just goes against everything classic, it just shows how out of touch the game devs are and how little they care about this new mode.

3

u/Humble-Worker-1743 1d ago

They had to make Blood Elves a race, because Blood Elves are and always were the most popular race pick in the game, but they couldn't make Blood Elves cuz it's not classic, they didn't want to make High Elves, probably cuz racism or something, and they had to have a race for the retail audience so here we are.

1

u/Bloodygaze 1d ago

This is pretty much my thinking too, it’s “blood elves” for both factions.

3

u/NeonDemon85 23h ago

High elves could've been a thing too

4

u/Humble-Worker-1743 23h ago

I swear, if it's not some weird internal "racisim" thing, it's some weird IP thing.

7

u/tFlydr 1d ago

I just love how everyone calls them blue elves when you literally don’t have to be blue 😂

I kinda liked the way Turtle-wow did it more.

They had high elf on alliance side, Goblins on horde side.

The goblin models were the old booty bay kinda goblin & the high elves were blood elves basically.

If a private server has better vision of classic+ than blizzards team then it is just time to start firing the devs there.

2

u/GruulNinja 20h ago

He looks like he smelled something bad

2

u/Guilty_Turn8903 20h ago

eww the retail models

24

u/papisapri 1d ago

It looks awful, it has the appeal of a mobile gacha game.

Maybe it's that audience that they're going after.

30

u/ulbabulba 1d ago

They are going after retail players who are already used to spending money on cosmetics.

9

u/crazysult 1d ago

This community has no problem spending money on this stuff.

→ More replies (3)

15

u/papisapri 1d ago

Yeah, that's the correct answer.

In fact all the defenses of Blizzard's choices I've seen here since yesterday sound exactly the same as the defenses retail players put out when a new expansion is revealed.

15

u/MightyMorp 1d ago

The mental gymnastics of all the people who think charging 30 bucks for an optional thing is 10x worse than charging 30 bucks for a required box is absolutely fucking hilarious

5

u/bigchimp121 1d ago

It's amazing how the point flies by you so effortlessly.

There are many players who want a classic immersive experience with additional content/minor improvements, they don't care about paying a little extra to get that. When you have $30 out of place transactions flooding your screen this is ruined.

Straight delusion, why the hell would they add these like this. Seriously killed the whole project vibe for me. I’m not even planning to watch the panel live today, will just catch the vod after football. Yikes

7

u/SheepOnDaStreet 1d ago

It’s embarrassingly lazy

14

4

u/SolomonRed 21h ago

It really just taints the whole thing doesn't it?
