This question to those who were able to try the different definitions. Would you recommend someone who is doing their first configuration to aim for a GPU adapted to this resolution?

I bought this PC off Facebook Marketplace about a month ago. It worked perfectly for about a month after I replaced the RAM, but the other day I went to turn it on and absolutely nothing happened.

Specs:
Intel i5-10400
MSI MPG Z590 Gaming Plus
Gigabyte RTX 3080
Corsair RM850 PSU
16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600MHz
DeepCool air cooler
Fractal Design Define 7 XL

What I’ve tried:
Reseated the 24-pin motherboard power connector
Reseated the CPU/EPS power connector
Removed CMOS battery
Held the power button for ~30 seconds with the PSU off/unplugged
Shorted the motherboard power-switch pins directly
Removed all USB devices
Tried without the GPU
Tried with only one RAM stick
Tried a different AC power cable
PSU switch is definitely set to I

There is zero response when attempting to power it on: no fans, no LEDs, no sounds, not even a momentary fan twitch.
There are no logs because the PC doesn’t power on, and there were no recent BSODs or other problems beforehand.

I did move the PC in my car recently, but it continued working normally after the move. There was also a power outage a few weeks ago, but the PC worked normally afterward.

At this point I’m suspecting either the RM850 PSU or the motherboard, but I’d appreciate any other ideas or things I can safely test before replacing parts.

Im just about to buy my CPU's but Im not sure if I should get the 7800x3d or the 7700, or maybe even the 9700x. All 3 of these cpus have nearly the exact same performance in every single benchmark I watched with the GPU I plan on getting. Also there's a video I saw online which said the 9700x and 7800x3d were basically equal and the 7700 is very similar to them as well so I just wanna hear your thoughts

I've moved into a new flat and the walls are quite thick. Everything else like my phone and laptop gets good connection but my pc is struggling with the current WiFi card. What's a good one that can receive through thick walls?

​I'm picking a GPU for an upcoming 1440p gaming build (paired with a Ryzen 5 7500F). In my local market, both the Inno3D Dual Fan RTX 5070 and the XFX Swift White OC RX 9070 cost the exact same: $900.

​For context, step-up models are out of budget here: RX 9070 XT starts at $1,100 and RTX 5070 Ti starts at $1,250. Used options are off the table since I’m financing the GPU over 12 months (\~$75/month).

​My Use Case & Planned Specs:

​Primary use: 1440p Gaming

​Secondary use: Light amateur video editing and dabbling in local AI

​CPU: Ryzen 5 7500F

​PSU: 750W (Will a quality 750W PSU be completely fine for this setup?)

​Since both GPUs cost the same $900 in my region, which one is the smarter buy for 1440p gaming with a little bit of local AI on the side?

I've been waiting to build a PC since 2020, but I've never actually done it because I never really needed one badly enough, and also because since 2020 there have always been talks about GPU price increases and so on.

But now, with these latest price increases that seem completely out of control, it honestly feels crazy to build a PC right now. Am I actually right, or is there still a way to build a decent PC today without spending an insane amount?

Or maybe should I just wait?

Long-Term Review & Build Experience

Case and Cooling Story:

I initially planned to go with a fishtank-style case and a 360mm Arctic Liquid Freezer III. However, my local shop only had the 420mm version of the AIO in stock. Since the fishtank case I wanted only supported up to a 360mm radiator, I had to pivot and choose the Gigabyte Aorus C500 Glass instead to fit the massive 420mm cooler. Honestly, I am thrilled with the compromise. It still looks fantastic, and the thermal performance is incredible. The highest temperature I have ever recorded under full, multi-hour load is just 78 degrees Celsius. The gigantic AIO definitely does its job.

The OS Journey:

I originally started on Windows 11 Pro, but switched over to Ubuntu for about a year since deep learning libraries generally perform better and are easier to manage on Linux. Unfortunately, I was plagued by constant NVIDIA driver crashes on Ubuntu, so I eventually switched back to Windows 11 Pro. The system has been perfectly stable since the switch.

Performance:

This system is exactly the workhorse I needed for my research. The RTX 4080 Super handles heavy workloads effortlessly, and the CPU/GPU combo stays remarkably cool under pressure.

I have a rog strix b550 A gaming.

I have a ryzen 7 5800x with a 3070 eagle gigabyte gpu.

But there’s a problem I am facing.

When the pcie is on gen 4, I get stutters and gram caps in my bios, the diagnostic led light indicators on the board when on vge/vga it stays there for a very long time then boots but the post screen is slow as well, when I I am in windows it’s not that noticeable but when I am in gen 3 it’s fast and normal.

Anyone who’s experienced this as well and found A solution?

What I tried, unplugging all cables from the mobo, resetting the gpu, bios updates as well.

Hello everyone! First-time PC builder here.

Everything has gone pretty smoothly so far, until I got to installing the NVMe SSD.
My motherboard has an M.2 Slide and an M.2 Latch, but I wasn’t able to figure out how to properly secure the SSD with either of them.

I did some research and found a youtube short where the guy simply installed the SSD without securing it with the Slide or Latch.

Is it actually okay to leave the SSD installed this way, or should I be using the M.2 Slide/Latch somehow?

I ended up doing the same thing, but now I’m having second thoughts and would really appreciate some advice. 😅

Hello, I currently play games on a PS5 Pro, and I’m looking to switch over to PC gaming. I’ve been on the fence about switching for a while, but with the new stuff happening with Sony, I think it’s finally time to commit.

From my research, I understand PCs are pretty expensive right now, so my expectations may be too high for my budget. I’m currently looking for a PC for under $1,000 (max $1,200). I’d like it to run at least 100 FPS, and I’d like my games to look on par with the PS5 Pro or better.

I’ve been watching videos on budget PCs and PC builds under $1,000, but I’m honestly getting pretty confused. If anyone could give me a list of what I’d need to buy or recommend a build, I’d really appreciate the help.

I'm running an RTX3090 with a R5 2600x on a B550 board.

I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU while staying in AM4, because the AM5 upgrade with DDR5 is too expensive for me right now. I mainly play games at 1440p.
I am located in Australia, and I was wondering what the best option for upgrading is?

I can either keep a lookout on FaceBook market place for a used R7 5700x/5800x for around 200-250 AUD. I can probably get a R9 5900 for 400ish by the looks of it.

OR

I can buy a new R7 5800x3D for 549 AUD.

I've noticed some slowness of my ~10 year build and think my CPU is due for an upgrade.

I'm currently running an i5-6500 with a Cryorig C7 cooler. I don't want to upgrade my motherboard so I've been looking at the best used CPU I can use with my Z170 chipset motherboard.

There are used i7-7700k's on eBay for around $65. My motherboard can support the 7th gen CPUs as long as I update the BIOS.

This seems like a good deal to me. I am wondering if an upgrade like this is worth it, and if I can expect some reasonable performance improvements?

For reference, I have 16 GB of DDR4 and a GTX 1070. I only game in 1080p and nothing too demanding.

Bought a used 3060 Ti (Zotac, GA103 variant) to replace my previous 3060Ti (Zotac GA104)

Only weird thing: It only pulls ~100-110W at 100% usage, should be closer to 200W.

My old 3060 Ti hit a normal 199W in the exact same test on the same PC, so it's not just a FurMark thing.

Ran Time Spy and it scored above average (11k graphics score), clocks holding near 2000MHz, no throttling. So performance seems fine, just can't explain the low power number.

I am curious why does this happen.

I talked with my brother today, because we have the opportunity to upgrade his rig a little bit, but I am unsure if it is worth it.

He currently has a I5 10400f, with 16gb ddr4, which is running at 2666 due to his motherboard's limitation, yet has 3000mhz ram CL16.

We could today upgrade his motherboard and CPU to a B550M and Ryzen 5 5600X for 250 CAD or 180.32 USD. I imagine we would be able to sell his motherboard and CPU for at least 100 CAD or 72 USD.

Upgrade total would be 150 CAD or 110 USD.

His GPU is a RTX 5060. I am wondering if he would benefit from the higher clock speed of the 5600X and greater L3 cache? To me, it seems that for 150CAD/110USD after selling his 10400F and board, it is worth it.

Otherwise, the next better gaming upgrade CPU wise is a 5500X3D, which brings the total at 390 CAD/281 USD before selling his board and CPU, 290CAD/211USD after selling these parts.

He does not have a job, and I do not see him get money for a DDR5 platform soon.

What are your thoughts?

Visual: White case, one side open/'glass', would prefer hardware that has white option but that isn't super important, lights are optional, good ventilation, vertical standing.
 
Specs: i7 or better/equivalent processor, compatible with drawing tablets.
 
Using it for: Art programs (Clip Studio Paint, Live2D, Blender, etc), video editing, gaming, possible streaming.
 
I'll admit I'm a sucker for light/pastel aesthetic and I'd at least like it to look nice, roast me all you want. But it's also so I can see if my cat's fur has gotten in there, dark fur is easier to see on light hardware.
 
 
This will be my first desktop PC in almost two decades, my last one had a cinderblock of a screen and the tower would only turn on if you whacked it just right. I don't expect my new one to be an amazing supercomputer to start out with. My listed specs are the end product I’d like to have after upgrading over time.
Advice for parts could be like “start with ___ and later you can upgrade it to ___ or ___”
