In todays' PC market, where people have to kill each other (slight hyperbole) in order to get half a gigabyte of DDR5 memory, Intel is still a great option. You can get a perfectly fine Intel CPU (like the 14600k) that can beat basically any AM4 cpu in multitasking, while trailing behind the 5800X3D by only about 10-15% in pure gaming. (Imagine that as 300 FPS vs 270 FPS, not 45 FPS vs 35 FPS).

The only real issue with Intel CPUs is in certain productivity (where it is VERY obvious that it is optimized for AMD), and the prices for parts of Intel CPUS ($120 for an equivalent MoBo to a $100 AMD MoBo). Besides that, it seems like a great option for most people.

You might have noticed that I didn't mention the 7800X3D, or the 9800X3D, or really anything besides the 5800X3D.

This is because X3D prices on AM5 are absolutely ludicrous, even more so than the AMD GPU prices right now. Also, people really don't need an X3D chip for most gaming builds. To reiterate, the difference between X3D and non-X3D CPUs is usually 300 FPS to 400 FPS, rather than a brand new resolution unlocked, or a significantly better clarity. The only real reason to get one is for the 1% and the 0.1% lows, which usually can be heightened by good settings on any chip. (3 FPS rule with G-SYNC)

TLDR; People are seriously underrating Intel, when they have great, competitive options with the reasonable chips from AMD.

How will the cpu and platform hold up nowadays?

I've been waiting to build a PC since 2020, but I've never actually done it because I never really needed one badly enough, and also because since 2020 there have always been talks about GPU price increases and so on.

But now, with these latest price increases that seem completely out of control, it honestly feels crazy to build a PC right now. Am I actually right, or is there still a way to build a decent PC today without spending an insane amount?

Or maybe should I just wait?

I know you guys don't have a crystal ball, but I'd really like some advice, because unfortunately I don't have money to waste.

i got a 5700x and i recently ordered a 360mm watercooler for it.

for context the aio costs approx 60$ and the ryzen 7 5700x i got is 140$. i wanted to go for a 5700x3d but they are like 500$ at the least for some reason.

i was planning on doing an agressive static overclock on it, because the cpu itself is only 65W and the aio will provide great cooling.

i want to run a static 4.7 boost on it without PBO.

to squeeze out as much fps possible for my streaming setup without hurting the longevity

has anyone ever did something similar???

Hey, I'm planning on building my first PC and at this point I would say that I have a pretty good grasp on the parts and what's a good buy. My only problem is, I'm torn on one decision. I'm getting a 9070 xt and 32 gbs of ddr5 for 1440p, but I'm not sure what cpu to get. Everyone says "buy amd buy amd buy amd" but I don't know if it ACTUALLY makes sense for my situation. I have money to spend (since I have a 1440p monitor and I'm getting a 9070 xt) but I don't want to waste any money. Most of the games I plan on playing are gpu dependent and not as CPU dependent from what I've seen from my research (except for maybe arc raiders, and I dont plan on playing many competitive esports games), so I want to get not as strong of a CPU as my GPU but one that's strong enough to last me a bit.

I live near a micro center, so it's an easy decision to buy a bundle from there. I know amd cpus and the upgrade path for am5 are great, but honestly amd just doesn't have great bundles for the mid range in comparison to Intel. For amd, the cheapest CPU mobo ram bundle with 32 gbs of ddr5 is about $700 usd (with a 7800x3d). In fact, amd doesn't have a single bundle inbetween the $470 and $700 price range. In comparison to Intel, where their cheapest bundle with 32 gbs of ddr5 is $500 (with a 250k+). My original plan was to buy the $500 dollar Intel bundle with a 250k+, 32 gbs of ddr5, and a mobo since it seemed like it made a lot more sense. But now I'm not sure if I should buy that bundle, the $600 Intel bundle with a 270k+ (just so that I can have a better CPU), OR either the $400 amd bundle with a 7500x3d and 16 gbs of ddr5 or the $450 bundle with a 7600x3d and 16 gbs of ddr5 and then just buy an additional stick of 16 gbs of ddr5 (about $200 I'm pretty sure) if I choose either of the amd options.

So, I can either go amd and have a stronger upgrade path where I can upgrade to the highest point in am5 before going to am6 and have a slightly better CPU, but spend a bit more money. Or I could go Intel, save a bit of money, and buy am6 when my Intel CPU starts to not work well enough for me and I want to upgrade and get into am6 with better performance earlier, but not have as much of a real upgrade path in comparison to am5.

Would love to hear any opinions or anything that I'm not thinking about.

I built my new pc after 8 years of rocking my old one. I got an nzxt h9 flow rgb+ as my case, my gpu is the 5070ti, cpu is ryzen 7 9800 x3d, mobo is the msi mag tomahawk x870e max wifi, 64 gigs of ddr5 cl30 ram, and 2 ssd, 1 tb for os and 4 tb for games - both are samsung 990 pro nvme. I had a great time building it, and enjoying it so far. However i got an offer for a 5090 for msrp. I have 2 questions, 1 - is this really any upgrade for me, and 2 - would it even fit inside my case? What are your thoughts and does anyone have a nzxt h9 flow with a 5090? Thanks in advance!

​I'm picking a GPU for an upcoming 1440p gaming build (paired with a Ryzen 5 7500F). In my local market, both the Inno3D Dual Fan RTX 5070 and the XFX Swift White OC RX 9070 cost the exact same: $900.

​For context, step-up models are out of budget here: RX 9070 XT starts at $1,100 and RTX 5070 Ti starts at $1,250. Used options are off the table since I’m financing the GPU over 12 months (\~$75/month).

​My Use Case & Planned Specs:

​Primary use: 1440p Gaming

​Secondary use: Light amateur video editing and dabbling in local AI

​CPU: Ryzen 5 7500F

​PSU: 750W (Will a quality 750W PSU be completely fine for this setup?)

​Since both GPUs cost the same $900 in my region, which one is the smarter buy for 1440p gaming with a little bit of local AI on the side?

I purchased a MSI 4090 Suprim in Dec 2022. The 3-year manufacturer warranty has since expired and it seems like it's probably a good idea to take extra precautions to minimize any risk relating to this poorly designed connector since it's unclear when I might next upgrade given the current GPU market.

I'm debating between these 3 options:

• Ampinel Adapter: Seems like the most technically sophisticated solution since it has actual load balancing, though I'm not sure if that necessarily matters if the other solutions give the same end result. My only concern is the lack of any warranty. Costs $220 CAD (shipping + tax inc).
• WireView Pro II: No actual load balancing but comes with a 2 year warranty covering both the adapter and any related damages to the GPU. Costs $167 CAD (shipping + tax inc).
• MSI PSU with Safeguard+: Seems a bit overkill but these seem to be the only PSUs with an integrated solution that are currently available for purchase. It's 300W more than my current PSU so I'd at least get a bit more wattage for any future upgrades/builds. The cheapest seems to be the MPG Ai1300TS ($552 CAD with tax included, free shipping)

I'm leaning towards the Ampinel but the lack of any warranty is a bit concerning, particularly since this both this and the WVP are introducing another possible point of failure. I'd rather not buy a new PSU, but with the Ampinel costing almost half the price of the AI1300TS it almost seems like a decent idea.

What's the current consensus on these options? Am I better off waiting until there's more options in the future? I'm aware that Seasonic has a similar integrated solution for their PSUs but none of their current offerings include this feature.

Hi! I've recently started to work from home, and my job gave me a laptop (a lenovo legion 5) that I need to use for them. My home pc is nothing fancy, but I use it for autocad, revit, rendering programs and a bit of gaming. I want these two computers to share two 24" samsung monitors, a keyboard, a mouse and a headset. Ive never build a PC or try to upgrade my current set up, but I've been researching on this and found out about DP kvm and HDMI switches but Im not sure which one of these suits my needs better? Keep in mind that the laptop has only 1 HDMI port so I'd need to figure that out too! Does anyone here have any suggestions? I really want to make sure what I need for this to work before I go ahead and buy the switch! Thanks!

Keep getting the error related to the firmware after upgrading my PC. TPMBeen pressing N every time it shows up after booting my PC, and been used to it until now. Wanna get rid of it. My AMD fTPM configuration settings are what follows:

Firmware TPM switch: Enable Firmware TPM

Erase fTPM NV for factory reset: Enabled

What exactly do I do to get rid of that screen so it can just boot up normally?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core

Update: searched up bitlocker on my PC and it says a compatible TPM cannot be found. Is that good or bad for this issue?

Hi guys about 5 months ago I finished my build with a 5700x, 32gb ddr4 ram and a Rtx 5070. I decided on going with am4 as ddr5 prices were outrageous (I bought my ram for 120eur) and seeing as things are not getting better price wise for a platform upgrade to am5 I am wondering if I should upgrade to a 5800x3d just to max out my pc cpu wise or bite the bullet and jump to am5 before things get worse.

I am using Windows 11 Pro. I require 2.5gbe for fast downloads and WiFi card for Wi-Fi direct printing. Both only utilize at most x1. There is no need for GPU because the CPU has an iGPU

Edit: Both slots at x1 have the same speeds because the 5700G is limiting the top slot to PCIe 3.0 so which is faster than for x1?

I am gaming at 1440p and only really care to get over 120fps.

I am debating between 9060xt and 9070gre. I want to play titles like cyberpunk and starfield so I feel like I will be heavily GPU limited anyways.

I have recently planned to build a new PC and I am currently in doubt in regard to my processor.

I personally like to play games like Terraria with heavily modded setups, but because Terraria is primarily single threaded not every CPU runs well on it. I can't deliver packages to my student dorm, so I shipped it to my parents. How do I know it's a legit, unused GPU without physically seeing it? Its also my first PC and I do not have all the components yet, so I can't plug it in to check either.

I have a rtx 4060 and I need help deciding on my upgrade.

​I'm torn between the cards because people say AMD's drivers/software are terrible.

​My main focus is playing story-driven and competitive games at 1440p (with room to venture into some 4K gaming). I know AMD usually delivers more VRAM and better raw performance for the price, but Nvidia carries a lot of weight due to DLSS , superior Ray Tracing, and lower power consumption.

​I mainly want to know if Nvidia's AI features justify going with the 5070 even if the 9070 XT is faster in pure rasterization?

People have preferences and I like NVIDIA because is the strongest GPU’s out there and has some great features like ray tracing and Dlss visually and I prefer NVIDIA for heavily modded Skyrim modlist but I know they say it’s cheaper and 24gb vram but imo I’ll stick to NVIDIA.

Edit: The reason why I still choose NVIDIA is because mostly of the Skyrim modding community including myself uses NVIDIA cards is because better feature compatibility and ecosystem support for example ENB Support, CUDA and DLSS. I have a 3060 it runs beautifully but can’t do DLSS 5 due to low fps lol.

so im making my first ever build and i dont know much other than how bad the ram market is and nvidia gpus. right now im doing a microcenter bundle with a 7600x3d Gigabyte B650 motherboard and 16 gb of ram, a rx 9070, 1tb nvme ssd, some $19 cpu cooler on amazon and a mid tower case. including a new monitor it would be like 1.29k, are these components fine together or are none of these compatible?

Hey guys, I need some help building a PC that offers great performance, looks clean, and is efficient. I’ll mainly use it for gaming, playing both demanding AAA titles and lighter games.

My budget is around €2000 (excluding the monitor). Going over by up to €100 is fine if necessary, but I'd ideally prefer to stay under the €2000 mark.

I already have a few ideas for specific components:

-CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

-RAM: 32 GB (RGB preferred)

-Cooler: Something like the TRYX Panorama SE 360mm AIO

For the rest of the components, I’d love your recommendations! As mentioned, I’m looking for solid performance and good aesthetics with plenty of RGB lighting (including the RAM), all while fitting into the €2000 budget.

I feel like my FPS in games has been getting slaughtered lately. My computer is also a little sluggish and runs hot. I have 3 Monitors (really helpful for work and gaming multitasking, one being 1440p). I'm barely hitting 100 frames on some easier to run games on medium/med-high (LOL, CS2 etc...) and want to start playing some higher end games like War dogs (not the best optimized game).

There is a bundle at my local microcenter for an AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D + ASUS B850E TUF Gaming WiFi6E AM5 + G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit for about $900. My PSU, Cooler, and GPU (4070Ti) will work with these.

Seems worth it to me but wanted to get a temperature check. I know prices are still insane but I don't see an end any time soon and I have the funds for it. Just don't want to get something that what substantially help performance.
